Chris Houde well at least they are happy. Sometimes, material and luxurious lifestyle are not for others to enjoy. Simplicity yet, satisfying way of living matters.
Sooooooo sad. 😰 When he talks about other nations joining them to clean up the world. There's no way the people of Europe, China, Russia , Middle East Mexico and the U.S.A.. won't do anything. Corporations are running most of our world. Bhutan is off the grid. Corporations and the banks don't care about the future of Earth they only care about profit now. They certainly don't care about happiness! The only thing governments care about are power & control. The people of Bhutan are happy with very little. They have a home on their own land. They have food and health care. They live without the stress of our lives. I watched this great documentary series on Bhutan and the people are glowing with happiness and living with simplicity.

When I visited Bhutan, I, with my friends, were walking from Indian border to Bhutan. As soon as we entered the Bhutanese border, we were shocked to see the place. In India, the roads were polluted, traffics were not managed properly, but walking for few minutes to reach the Bhutanese border, the place was extremely clean, co-operative people and many things, that have remained only in dreams to be in a country, for which no words can describe how beautiful it was. Mr. Riveira Sorry if you did not figure: my comment was sarcastic. I tried to show that not everything coming from a country with great strength in one area should be brought to other countries. The Himalayan Kingdom Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay gives a wonderful talk about how his small country created a carbon neutral (in fact Carbon Negative) environment and championing the cause for Climate change. Taking cue from his speech, policy makers and political leaders all over the world should create a sustainable economic model for each country as well as World to survive. Mixing fun with facts admirably, he delivers a speech that is simply awesome. Highly recommended for everyone. It’s a must watch TED Talk.
Tobgay makes Bhutan sound like an ideal case, like heaven on earth in this video, but I've done some research and the picture painted is not accurate. With regard to carbon emissions, the World Bank's records indicate that Bhutan's carbon emissions are going up exponentially. If that trend continues, then Bhutan won't be such an environmentally-friendly country for long. Also, with free education, free healthcare and subsidies for various industries, I just wondered what that would mean for their national debt. I took a look and it's not a pretty picture either. A Debt Sustainability Analysis by the World Bank concluded that Bhutan is either at high or moderate risk of a debt crisis, all while emissions are going up and poverty remains stubbornly high. Bhutan is NOT on a sustainable path and should NOT be an example to follow. However, they do have very good GDP growth and life expectancy and INTERNET usage are creeping up so they are doing fairly well for such a poor country. I just think that when people conceptualize Bhutanese life and their progress, they should not imagine that Bhutan can do all the things it's doing now for long. Eventually, the free public services and the subsidies will have to stop or else they will find themselves bankrupt and worse off than when they started. www.worldbank.org/en/country/bhutan/brief/should-bhutan-worry-about-public-debt data.worldbank.org/country/bhutan
(from Nowhere to turn: Bhutanese refugees in Nepal, The Refugee Council, UK (1998)) When they introduced registration they told me (as a village headman) to tell the people to leave the country. When I protested they beat me and put me in prison. A headman from another district was beaten to death in front of me. Local courts issued orders directing people to leave. Soldiers stole cattle and harassed women. Out of 445 houses in my area, 440 households were driven out. I spent seven months in jail and another four months in Thimphu prison. They took me to the border with 40 rupees and left me there.

I’m a Genuine Bhutanese since my Birth but I was evicted when I was one or two years. Had to leave a life of a refugee in eastern part of Nepal for more than two decades. I’m very fortunate of being Bhutanese refugee because where in the world many people even don’t know about it. I had hard time to survive as refugee but in next I had free school in English medium. At present I’m living in USA and Bhutan’s prime minister Tshering Tobgay came to my yard and sending messages to the world where I’m from. Time flies and memories becomes stories.
There were cases during the 1980s where genuine Bhutanese were evicted from their homes( I won’t deny it ) by the local authorities of those places because of the false propaganda spread by those dissidents and their leaders and promising the protestors they would be given high political positions after all the facade. Some were even forced to take part in the protests even though they were reluctant otherwise they would’ve been killed which would explain the most for those in the camps saying they are genuine Bhutanese. Anyways though I do not know what it is like to live the life of refugees I do empathize and share my condolences to you.

How great would it be if many more countries and leaders follow suit by reducing emission and produce green sustainable energy. Instead of creating a mess and exploit the Earth for humans greed, Lets take care of our ONE AND ONLY EARTH, people! One step at a time! Here are some easy things we can do, Simply : *. Actively Reduce / avoid using plastics bags/one time used plastics (like plastic spoons, straws, cup, etc). *. Turn off the lights/tv/electronics when not in used. *. Do not burn trash/things because it create very harmful and dangerous gas for human & Earth. *. Be mindful when using water, don't waste water when washing your face/shower/etc, because many countries have no access to clean water because many water sources are already contaminated/polluted from irresponsible dumping from companies/factories/people. Lets be the change! Together we can create a positive impact for Mother Nature! 😇
In a country that largely consists of forests and where hydroelectric power stations can easily be built and also has very few inhabitants, one can easily speak of CO2 neutral. This can hardly be achieved in any other country. Telling others that they should do the same as them is complete nonsense. Perhaps he should think about the increase in CO2 in the atmosphere, which has been 0.014% since the industrial revolution (272 years ago). Humanity is responsible for about 4% of this, so for 0.04 x 0.014 = 0.00056%, that is about 1/180,000th part of the CO2 in the atmosphere. I have been to Bhutan recently. Trust me it's damn awesome place. We can distinguish by the road itself at the border from other side. No one blows horn there and in India we see constant honking. Actually people are so disciplined there that they don't need cops for traffic management. Also if you are crossing the road then vehicles will stop for you to cross the road whatever the speed of vehicle might be. It's just an example. There are lot of things when you visit Bhutan you'll start comparing with India.

most western people do not know that bhutan is an autocratic nation ruled by 15-20 families and one of the few totalitarian nations in the world. ever hear about a nation which ethnically cleansed one third of its population from its land for looking different ans speaking a different language? thats bhutan for you.

In a country that largely consists of forests and where hydroelectric power stations can easily be built and also has very few inhabitants, one can easily speak of CO2 neutral. Tropic775 Probably meant extraordinary. Typos exist.
When a country has no greed, they are rich with the things that really matter.

@@SeekingtheLight-cbh they were the so called "genuine" citizens, but they actually were illegal immigrants.
Finally a positive comment from a Bhutanese refugee, others just want to defame Bhutan. Thank you for having such a positive outlook

Wow, this country should be the role model of the world. A government who pushed for democracy without the people even fighting for it. Universal healthcare and education. And the most environmentally friendly country. Their gov. should be the world role model.
A democracy is where 49% of people have to live the way 51% dictate. Majority rule, every member is a slave to that system, no one is sovereign.

In the U.S. citizens are literal collateral for every deal our government makes. We have a social security ID which is just a corporate entity created for us. Pretty insulting to hear anyone claim negative carbon when he himself is carbon based life, when planes spray the skies, when they use something to heat their homes, and some sort of fuel for the production of the electricity they sell. Half of the European democracies are monarchies. If you have a constitutional and not an absolute monarchy, they are not contradictory.
@Drukstylz In Spain, Franco gave his power to the king as his successor. The king then gave it to the people by establishing democracy...
if the king said this, it sounds hypocritical. a monarch is born into the position, not voted to the position, so it is undemocratic

He is incredible, one of the most inspiring & passionate person I have ever seen! Really appreaciate how Bhutan, their king(s) and people truly care about the Earth.
How great would it be if many more countries and leaders follow suit by reducing emission and produce green sustainable energy.
Instead of creating a mess and exploit the Earth for humans greed, Lets take care of our ONE AND ONLY EARTH, people! One step at a time!
Here are some easy things we can do, Simply :
If he thinks that's why glaciers are melting, he needs to prove it before pointing out others.

It's really the time for the world to mature up!!
(Btw, a proud Bhutantese here!!!)
And I am from India I love Bhutan with heart one day I will visit your country brother
If he thinks that's why glaciers are melting, he needs to prove it before pointing out others.
The question is whether he has understood the calculation of the ICCP, or whether he simply accepts it, like almost everyone else.
@@heinpereboom5521 one time, i am sure your country also had forest and other natural resources, But you chose to generate profit from it and we choose to preserve it. we can easily earn millions of money from those resources and be a part of highly advanced country in the world. Actually we are not telling you do same like us because you can't. its a reminder to slow down otherwise your children and grandchildren will only live to see the disaster left by you and for your kind information, the countdown has already started.
I am in tears after minutes 1.45 . So moved by this narration. I would love to visit Bhutan before I die.
Plz do come
Wow! the experience of hearing him is absolutely mind blowing. The ideas he shared are indeed thought provoking and its high time with ongoing COP26 that we and every nation firmly agree to the idea of saving our mother EARTH from the man-made catastrophe.
India loves you Bhutan . You are our best friend and we have to learn most from you.
