I've watched the movie, but that was so Disney-fied. Thanks for this - a great musical and funny. All the actors were fabulous, Especially Bernadette and Joanna, the Baker's Wife
I love this musical so much, the writing is so tight. Even the little things like the Baker becoming the Narrator (like his father was), although it was when I realized years ago after the nth time watching this that Act I is about growing and Act II is about growing up. It's one of the few musicals where the second act is as good as the first act. When I was younger, I would listen more to the acts in the first act but as I've gotten older, the songs in the second act resonate so much more with me.
Just had my audition today, went pretty well! Here’s hoping, our theatre company only does callbacks for the leads so I’m not sure, but my monologue got good laughs from the director and MD. Cast list comes out Saturday!!
This is simply spectacular - thank you so much! And the timing is perfect as my sister is about to start rehearsing for The Witch; she said this version is the best, so she's going to be blown away to see your improvements. We are very, very grateful for your time and talent on this. And thank you so much for actioning @Thomas_H._Smith's request for Les Mis as well - that's brilliant. The style of that production reminded of one of our favourite stage cast recordings: The Hunting of the Snark (1987 version with Mike Batt, John Hurt and Billy Connolly). If there's any chance of you working some magic on that, that would be incredible!
Wow.... Wooooow! Okay, I've gotta rant a bit, hopefully if you're here that means you're my peeps and you'll get it. I hadn't realized it, but I've been slowly falling down a rabbit hole - it started a few months ago because sometimes I get If I Loved You (Carousel) stuck in my head. I figured I was due for a listen and, long story short, I discover the powerhouse that is Joshua Henry. Then UA-cam recommend him singing Agony--a song that has already been in my peripheral for a couple of decades--and I'm awed, but I go along my way, basically forgetting about it...except for the times it gets stuck in my head. Then yesterday I get a hankering to see it again when it shows up in my feed and I decide that I finally need to know the context of Agony so off to the Wiki I go for a barebones synopsis of Into the Woods and...just what?! What a convoluted story that sounds like! I figure there must be something to it because I know it's been successful on stage and in film so I end up watching it on Disney+ because that's how rabbit holes work.... And, again, just WHAT?! That was more awful than the synopsis made it sound! I felt like I seen what they were trying to do, but it just FELL FLAT. At this point, I figure it's just one of those things where everyone else likes it but it's not for me, and that's fine. But since I've spent the previous few hours immersing myself in something that was only supposed to be a passing question (and I needed to scrub my brain from the movie) I head to Google one last time hoping to get some perspective on why people like it, and THEN...FINALLY... I'm lead here and I check out Agony and a couple other quick parts, decide it's worth watching the whole thing, since I can already see that's it totally different. And I didn't intend to start watching it right away because I'd already wasted a lot of time but, much to my surprise, the stage version just drew me right in and, before I knew it, I had watched about half of it before I had to quit. So I finished it today and I'm stunned that it could be so different - especially when so much stayed the same. There's so much more I could say, but honestly I'm just reeling right now. There was a time years ago when I considered myself a Disney fan but now when anything comes out, I mostly just cringe. And this is a perfect example why. Go and choke, Disney! You don't deserve the source material that your money gave you access to! Alas, there's no giant to come and "set upon your castle."
This! This right here is how AI should be used....sheer perfection on theater geek's part. Well done! Im wondering...do you have any plans to use AI on the other professionally recorded Sondheim's shows like Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd or Passion?
You did an incredible job with this. One person who should you is Ann Hould-Ward, her costumes look absolutely fabulous (I can’t get over the detail in the Step Sisters’ dresses and the sleeves of the Witch), well done!
This was my first ever live Broadway experience, and I have been a fan of Danielle Ferland (Little Red Riding Hood) since then. I soon realized that she had been in the movie Radio Days and later Mighty Aphrodite, both directed by Woody Allen and was extremely funny in the latter. Later, completely by accident, I went to the off-Broadway show How I Learned to Drive, in which she was the utility player, and the funniest was when she was playing the grandma. Much more recently, she had a small role in the last season of Orange is the New Black. A couple of years after seeing ITW on Broadway, I saw a Princeton University production with another very funny woman, Sandy York, playing LRRH. In a separate show at Princeton, she did a hilarious original one-woman sketch in which she was utterly enamored with a photocopier machine and was thrilled to finally be alone with it.
I'm not a big fan of musicals but I remember being so excited when I saw this as a kid because it sticks so close to the original stories. I loved watching this & Sweeney Todd (1982 with Angela Lansbury ) growing up.
I’m now watching this for the second time this week It’s truly such an incredible show and I don’t think I’ve ever loved an actors performance as much as Chip Zein in this. Honestly every single actor in this show was so perfect. Watching this really does remind you how bad the film was comparatively
You probably already know that Chip Zien is currently on Broadway again in Barry Manilow's new show Harmony. He's getting a lot of Tony buzz for a great performance!
I disagree. I saw the Disney film 1st, and I love and still love it 2day. After seeing this, I love both. And maybe, 1 day some1 will make a reboot movie that'll fix the thing the Disney movie left out.
I love and still love the Disney adaptation. I saw the movie 1st, and I didn't know of the original. But now I love both versions. Maybe a different film adaptation will come that fixes what Disney left out.
I like the music in the movie, and Meryl Streep's witch was amazing, but they cut way too much out... which is why I always come back to watch this one instead xD
Man this was awesome. Just further solidifies this cast as unsurpassed and perhaps unsurpassable. Did they write each part for each actor? because it seems that way, it's that good.
Could you please do the same with Pacific Overtures? The only version of it available on UA-cam is quite blurry and it's a shame for such an absolute work of brilliance that is that show! This is a fantastic restoration!
OMG YES! Would it be possible to get Sweeney Todd in Concert (2001) enhanced as well? I would love you forever! Imma watch this tomorrow for valentine's day with my SO. :) Thank you!
I saw a Broadway traveling production of this in May 1989 with people from my high school drama club at the Palace Theatre , Playhouse Square, Cleveland, Ohio.
One day, Disney will let me make an actually good adaptation of this performance, an adaptation that doesn't take shortcuts and doesn't fill the cast with big names that won't deliver what should've been. That being said, I will fight tooth and nail to bring Bernadette Peters back as the witch, how could I not?
Fantastic job! What software did you use to upscale/enhance (as it is the best I've seen...soooo much better than that '4k' enhancement on here). Having seen this when it ran...brings back so many memories :)
Absolutely beautiful. Can you perhaps do this with other Broadway proshots like the Les Misérables 10th Anniversary Concert? With Into the Woods looking this good, one can only imagine what can be done with others.
I wonder if Disney or some other studio will make a sorta reboot movie that fixes the problems some critic "addressed" about Disney's 2014 Into the Woods movie. I mean, I some other people loved and enjoyed that film, but after seeing and hearing about the original Broadway stage show, it made me wonder how the things Disney left out of their movie would look in a different kind of film adaptation.

The wolf is so much creepier (in a completely different way) then he was as a child!
wdym by "as a child"
@kteriri I think they mean that when they were a child and saw the musical, they didn't find the wolf as creepy as they do now that they are an adult
Johnny Depp's version of the Wolf is more creepy, seductive, predatory, and more jazzy.
Auditioning for Jack’s mother in my local production next week. Wish me luck!
