In love with my Generation 2, 2008 Prius, with 170,000 miles. It was only 25K, new in 10/2007. Its garage kept and the original battery has no signs of weakness, perhaps due less corrosion on the hybrid battery connections ? The HID headlights failed but replaced them myself without taking the bumper off and are much brighter than the originals. Ran it 90K with the energy saver Defender Michelin tires and replaced them with the regular Defender Michelin tires. Loss a few miles per gallon but handles better and a softer ride maybe due to new thread. The Prius is used for long trips only with an average mileage of 53 MPG. Short trips are by bike, feet and public transit all year. It’s a beautiful sports car Barcelona RED. Great sleeping camping car with a 6’ bed. Adding a portable inverter makes a 115 Volt generator for back up efficient home power with the on and off cycle of the engine. The Princess Prius is a tough survivor like the princess cat in the movie “The Incredible Journey”. In time, it will become a classic antique vehicle saving me more and debt free living. The beautiful large display with sharp graphics is like being in a space ship. Especially when a malfunction is coming, the instrumentation lights up including the triangle of death. It’s an adventure vehicle!
This 2006 obviously isn’t in the rust belt, like my otherwise reliable 2004. The best mileage with mine, on a good day, gets about 44-46 mpg. Not bad, for a 20 year old car with 164k…..and with the original hybrid battery.
They are nice until they have an issue and then it will cost a fortune to repair. I just bought an 08 and the engine light came on for the catalytic converter the price to repair is 500-2500.00 depending on the part and who replaces it. I had a 2010 and the ABS went out. The price to repair is 3000.00. I do not know why these people are lying! These cars suck!
Hello! I got the same model as you, Prius 2006 with 120000 miles 3 days ago and I really like it. But have one question for you: where can I find a hybrid battery for 400$? Thank you!
If a person is looking at buying a used Prius, is there any TEST that can be performed to know if the battery is good or is failing/worn? Also, if the used Prius cars are so reliable, why would someone sell their used car? Can we assume that there's something WRONG if someone is selling a used Prius?
People sell their cars for many reasons. Yes, sometimes they sell them because of an underlying condition. But sometimes people want a change. Many prius owners have gone off to the Tesla full electric world. Or maybe their families got bigger and needed a bigger vehicle. If the battery is failing there is going to be a triangle with an exclamation point on the dash. But you should get dr prius app and obd2 and scan it.
I just heard so might be wrong. Cant toe if break down. Wont run on petrol without main battery. 10 hour labour plus very expenseive to swap hidden gen. 4500 cost of main battery. Which takes 20 minutes to change. A real drsigner would make it 1 minute swap. Id not let such a car leave my workshop. Id have demoted the no go on gas only designer to floor sweeper. Or started my own factory rebuilding them correctly. Pitty in my many years as a mecanic toyota were reliable easy to fix.
I've never seen anyone in the forums I'm part of mention the generator failing. Only the battery after 10 years or so and the brake actuator which was recalled, then gen 3 cars tend to have head gasket problems around 200-300k miles it seems.
@@MylesV oh yeah, factory gen3 head gaskets are two-ply and make Subaru head gaskets look good. Only reason they make it the distance is cuz you don't make shit for power. Fel-Pro head gasket fixes that.
I got it locally, it was refurbished and bad cells were swapped and in exchange i gave him my old battery. I found him on craigslist at the time, but plenty of FB marketplace doing the same. On this preius the batteries are becoming more scarse. So try to get one of the later prius batteries if you can so they last longer.

It’s an adventure vehicle!
you know cleaning those head lights is easy and you will see much better at night...
$400 for a new hybrid battery? Leave a link for that please
Tell me where I can get a new battery for $400.
This 2006 obviously isn’t in the rust belt, like my otherwise reliable 2004. The best mileage with mine, on a good day, gets about 44-46 mpg. Not bad, for a 20 year old car with 164k…..and with the original hybrid battery.
Nice, this one is Maryland. I think i might just be outside the belt, but still manage to get some rust :)
I think I am going for a CT 200H... undercover Prius 🤣
small which is great for parking
Vin# starts with J
Whoever hates, Toyota Prius does not know what it’s like to also be hated
But my question is what will happen if a Toyota presious from behind and a battery got messed up
We have in Europe the Toyota Auris hybrid. That car is even better then the Toyota Prius.
400$ battery where is that at lol! I been looking at hybrid battery all over 1200$
1:00 - "You can buy a new battery pack for ... oh ...$400" - I call BS ;)
A white car gets the best mileage and highest comfort level.
Thank you!
Nowhere.
Honda Insight 2011 and put 286K miles has been great, cheaper up front than Prius.
400$?! I heard it was 4k
$400 to replace the battery pack! That’s a lie!
1:53 do you wanna bet on that?
You look very insecure.
@A Sensible Young Man judge people based off of looks and 1 comment alone… that’s such a telling way of a secure mind
No where in America can you buy a BRAND NEW HV battery for a Prius for $400.00 NO WHERE! Rebuilt ones are $450.00 if you install it your self...
Only Gen 2..😮
I changed cars all the time but only my prius stays as my Daily drive. My big gas guzzlers stay home
Why didn't you mention that when the generator fails it's a $6,000 repair and that's if you don't even go to the dealership
Never heard of a prius generator failing. Have you had your prius generator fail?
Extremely rare.......somebody got a quote to see.......$2500.
I've never seen anyone in the forums I'm part of mention the generator failing. Only the battery after 10 years or so and the brake actuator which was recalled, then gen 3 cars tend to have head gasket problems around 200-300k miles it seems.
How the hell do you kill the starter/generator...
@@MylesV oh yeah, factory gen3 head gaskets are two-ply and make Subaru head gaskets look good. Only reason they make it the distance is cuz you don't make shit for power. Fel-Pro head gasket fixes that.
WHERE you getting a battery for $400 I'll take 10
Battery pack $400!? WHERE?
I got it locally, it was refurbished and bad cells were swapped and in exchange i gave him my old battery. I found him on craigslist at the time, but plenty of FB marketplace doing the same. On this preius the batteries are becoming more scarse. So try to get one of the later prius batteries if you can so they last longer.
I can’t stand how hideous these cars are and the reverse dinging, though that’s the price of 55 mpg
