Awesome video college boy. LOL. I don't think I've ever mentioned it, but Roy Jones Jr. is the reason I'm a boxing fan and he's the reason I started training. He made boxing look so cool! In his prime, one of the best to ever do it.
Thank you brotha! 😆 We might have had the same path to the love of boxing then because he was my favorite fighter at my starting stages too! 😂 Then I started cheating on him with Arturo Gatti 🤣.
Great video! How square are the hips when you pull this off? I tend to use a little bit of the Hitman style which tends to have a low lead hand, so maybe I could incorporate something like this?
Great video, especially how you combined the "here's how you do it, here's why you might not want to." I always tell guys that boxing is a simple sport at its base level. Hit the other guy and don't get hit. Now HOW you go about that? Roughly a million ways. But if you don't master the basics you can't hope to effectively use things like a RJJ gazelle punch when it counts. If you do master the fundamentals? You might see an opening in the ring. Example: Establish a good, tight, fundamental lead hook, especially to the body in round one. Round two, wait for jab, parry with back hand while level changing, throw overly wide left hook to head. You will nearly always get that opportunity and it can end a fight really fast. But that doesn't work if you throw it right away. More likely you'll be swinging by the grocery for a bag of frozen peas to hold over your nose later. That's why as much as I love watching highlight videos on here they're very misleading. If you don't see how a fighter built that big knock out shot you can't replicate it. But the "building" part involves a lot of boring moments.
Very true! The highlight reels are extremely misleading. Makes it look like they just score knockdowns and KO's in the first round 😆. As you said, those KO shots take rounds and rounds of "boring moments" to set up. Chess match! Thank you for pointing that out 👌🏽.
@@coachpillowfists hey no prob man, love the channel, love the engagement you show viewers and commenters. FWIW, I've been sharing your channel with a lot of the new guys coming in, folks who are interested in boxing. You, Tony J, a few others have really good content that manages to pack a lot of good info into digestible components. That's the sign of a good teacher!
@@catch40507 I'd like to add that it can be a little frustrating watching fights in a social setting and after 2 rounds, people will be like "This fight is boring" 🤦🏽♂😂. And of course bro! Thank you for sharing my channel and for being a good leader for others trying to better themselves as well. 🙏🏽
@@coachpillowfists that first comment got an actual LOL from me. I know that feeling bro lol "GAWD why doesn't he just HIT HIM." Trust me, my guy, he is trying.
The real reason that fighters didn't see the left hooks is because Roy Jones feinted with either his right cross or body hook and created openings and or feinting with his eyes looking low and going to the head instead. It's a big misconception that Roy Jones was just all athleticism. You don't beat James Toney and Bernard Hopkins with just athleticism, smh.
He was a really fucking smart boxer, that right hook conditioned them to watch out for the right hand instead of the left, so when he threw that hidden bomb of a hook they were NOT ready

level changing to set up punches is something i am looking to implement into my game, not just to set up gazelles. thanks coach!
Of course! Level changing is a game changer for sure! Right off the top of my head I know Lomachenko does it a lot.
Best coach ever 🙌🙌
Much appreciated! 🙌🏽👊🏽

@PartyCrasher04 Facts. Especially when he feinted the right cross then threw the left hook going to his left so that you couldn't counter him.
Box sings....
Box what? 😆

Coach, could u do a video for more boxing strength and conditioning? Preferably for “explosive-ness” lol
And thanks a lot for ur videos. They really help me big time. God bless 🙏 have a beautiful day 👊
I'll see what I can do for strength and conditioning soon. Thank you for watching! 💪🏽
@@coachpillowfistsOfc!! Thanks for putting this stuff out here!! ✌️
Yo this channel is better than tony jeffries.
I wish! 😆 But that means a ton to me, I appreciate it! 🙏🏽
Still sour he beat my boi James Toney
Sour for 30 years 😂
😂
If you aren't fast don't bother with this lol
True! 👌🏽
Nope, learn how to feint with your shoulders, head slots, and eyes to hide your punches. It has nothing to do with being fast.
