- Only hand tools. box with sliding lid, One day woodworking project. Material - oak, finishing - tung oil. My various drills have been stored for many years either in a plastic box or in a plastic ice cream bucket, now it’s time to make a beautiful box out of wood! 210x130x60mm, thickness of planks 8mm

I absolutely love the look of the Clifton smoother...beautiful in its own right...and your work is exquisite...
This is the perfect antidote to all those American videos with huge workshops and machines. No crass, condescending, shouty, instructional, philosophical or nonsense commentary.
I just love the craftsmanship, the videography, and the vibe. I could feel my heart rate and blood pressure falling! What a beautiful box.
Love the cmt lmao 😂
Btw how the hell did you know my thought bro?
Indeed! I needed this. 👌🏻
If I wasn't relaxed and at peace before I watched your video, I certainly am now. A big step up from the plastic tub. Nice work.
So relaxing! He does really nice work.
WOW! So it’s possible to build things without a SawStop in the shop! 4,829 other UA-cam channels had me thinking otherwise! Very reassuring to see that with traditional skills, you don’t have to have a $4,000 saw! Beautiful stuff here! Subbed!
Your videos always calm me down. Thank you very much, and I adore these small items.
I am a 76 year old from the UK. Spent a large chunk of my life working as an engineer, before moving into management. My father was a joiner/ carpenter who I used to love to help (hindering really) when I was a small boy, but he was a really patient man, and I learned some of the techniques of woodworking from him, which I employ in my woodwork hobby since retiring from full time work. I must say watching this video taught me a few more. Thank you for sharing.
The woodworker side of me really likes this box... but the machinist side of me reallllly dislikes storing drill bits this way haha... Nice build! 😁
I agree. It’s a well made box but too good for its intended use -in the sense that if I had made this, I would have wanted it fitted out to a quality to match the box. If I cared enough about my drill bits to spend the time making this box, then I would think enough of them not to want them knocking around.
All that is quite personal. Really, it is about the making of the box with the intended use being quite secondary.
Agree!
I made a sliding lid box today out of cherry n walnut n it’s nice. I use all hand tools also. But compared to yours mines like level 3 and yours is level 10. lol. But you inspire me to improve man great work. Beautiful
You're one of my biggest inspirations in the woodworking world, man. Keep it up.
That was just a delight to watch. Thank you.
Well done. I like this design very much and I wish I would have seen it earlier. On the first hand cut dovetail box I made (from pine), I just had one dovetail and no 45° corners. So the square holes from the groove for bottom and top were exposed and I had to fill them. I will try your design on my second box. Thanks for the inspiration.
Just discovered you! Amazing work...honest compliment from another left-handed craftsman.
Thank you 😉
Precioso trabajo, preciso, impecable. 👏
Excellent craftmanship
beautiful.
Great to watch a correct handed craftsman at work. Beautiful!
Fantastic
Always a good day when a new video appears from GR.Nothing fancy or superfluous here- lovely.
USA North Carolina. This is a dream video for me because I love to build boxes with hand tools. It was my pleasure to share in this project.
I have always struggled with the groove being exposed, the 45% half pins are the answer! Thank you.
Great video as always. Your videos are always so inspiring and relaxing to watch. Keep up the amazing work
Nice video, beautiful work. That’s like a piece of furniture to store your drill bits in. Someday I hope I can create beautiful pieces of woodwork.
Stunning little box, man! Spectacular work! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Beautiful video! Love your art as well as the video photography and music
You somehow capture things if I was there watching you work
Very intuitive :)
Thank you ☺️
I've spent the last two days trying to learn this joint. The fact you did this entire box in a day blows my mind. The way your miters come together is inspiring. love your channel and your work!
Very nice project. And you make it look too easy! Always look forward to watching your videos.
Great vid 👌, a pleasure to observe and try to memorise and also strive to emulate while learning to be a better woodworker and get the same end result.
Thanks for sharing 👍.
Cheers Les.

Great job as usual. Well done!!
Very nice handwork! Thanks for sharing.
The values you have for wood well done ❤🎉
It’s refreshing to watch and be inspired by traditional and high level hand tool work on UA-cam. Your work is superb as always. I really enjoyed this 1. You always remind me to unplug my power tools and bring out my hand tools and find my true enjoyment in my work. Keep up the great work brother. Thanks for all you do!
You are the finest wood craftsman I have ever seen your work is magnificent! My respects to you sir.
Is that incense creating that plume of smoke? Thank you for sharing. Relaxing to watch. A beautiful project!
Love your work
Amazing piece. I've said it before but you do absolutely stunning work. Thank you for sharing.

It's so relaxing.
wow - that's almost too good for the drill bits - ps. Love your videos, the music, the videography ... just the overall vibe. I still seem to learn so much from your videos - keep up the great work
Thanks for the relaxation and inspiration. 👍🏻
So elegant. You are such a main inspiration for why I use hand tools in my videos. Thank you.
Excelente trabajo 👍👍👍👌
Es un placer verte trabajar compañero. Muy bien hecho. Te felicito.
Your videography is magnificent! And so are your woodworking skills!
So glad to see my man GR start using more Japanese tools for his projects
I can hear my mentor yelling 'Hands are not hammers!'
Great box!
Great job.
New Build/video yay ..!
😉👌
Super job j'aime beaucoup regarder tes vidéos 👍😉
As always, very coooool
Great video and build yet again. It was great to see another fellow hand tool woodworker lighting up an incense while woodworking. It’s such a nice vibe 🤙
craftsmanship
Why was the decorative raised panel end up as a bottom? Was it because of the necessary end trim for a closure stop not possible on that panel?
Well done. ☺☺
Compliment for tutorial 👍
first off, love your videos, very inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing your passion.
Just a question, I see you have a Clifton 4-12/2 I can assume, almost bought one, couldn't t quite get to the $400 price point just yet, one day hopefully, but my question is this, how do you like using a smother for everything? I haven't seen you use many planes outside of the Clifton and the little one (which is cool btw)
do you use machines to get your boards down to the basic sizes?
Beautiful box, but I have to agree with someone else’s comment that I would never store my drill bits like that.
A very well constructed, entertaining and informative video. Thank you. What is the recipe for the finish you use.
Yurii, what is the smallest chisel you used in making this box?
Noce box. Great dove tail
Masterly!
lovely
No questioning your amazing skills and camera work , so glad I found your channel ,new sub , just one question, why is the base all “fancy” ?
poems with shavings
thank you
please tell me that was not smoke, but steam i keep seeing, to keep a higher relative humidity in the shop, for a constant expansion %.
Another great video! What is the make of the wooden plane you use at the start? the one with the brass sole
nice
Hi,.. you are awsome in your manual working.. i am looking for a "compass" to measure the dove-tail length as your.. do you have any link where to buy? thank you GR.
Very nice work! Permit me to ask: why du you use dovetail saw instead of dozuki?
Hi, do you have any link where to buy a compass sa your to set dove tail length . Thank you
Excellent work and very cool channel mate. One word of caution though, repeatedly hitting chisels instead of using a small mallet isn't the best for your hands. Carpal tunnel syndrome is not something you want mate and the surgery and rehab ain't no joke.
All the best in your future builds :) looking forward to them
Is that a 4 or 4 ½ Clifton?
4 ½
Anyone know what block plane he is using at 12:21? I’m in the market and the one in the video looks so cool!
Nice and inspiring work as always. Is that the Clifton 5 1/2 you are using?
Funny that I wondered if it was a 4 1/2.
@@jlmfoy365 yeah. Looks a bit small for a 5 1/5
5 1/2
Brilliant! Beautiful! Looks like a tiny Stanley No 45? What plane is that?
Looks like an old Record 043. There are a couple different companies making a clone of that plane nowadays. Veritas makes one and so does Luban/Quangsheng.
@@MortimerSugarloaf Thanks!
How about a video to show us how you get your pencils sooooooo pointy
Would be very boring.. just use a long point sharpener😉
A knife
Sandpaper and a steep angle
What's your pleasure Mr. Cotton?
My drill bits now feel neglected.
👍👍👍👍👍
