Simple daily 16 to 18 hours fasting even does the wonder. I have been on 18 hours fasting for one and half years and these are my results:
    1. fat loss 126kg to 72kg
    2. high testosterone level from 239 to 598
    3. All clothes are loose and i have to give to obese people 😀
    4. waist 52 inches to 32 inches
    5. energy levels are always up
    6. Appreciation from people and high motivation level.
who cares for 4 6 days fasting when you are getting all health benefits from 16 or 18 hours.

I fast 24 hours once a week. Every two weeks I do a 48 -72 hour fast. Depends on how I feel. To break a long fast I usually grill a trout and eat some cooked dark greens seasoned with sea salt and butter.
Now, I do take electrolyte suppliments during fasting. If I don't I can get rapid pulses at night, some sciatic nerve pain in my left foot and a big loss of motivation.
Once everthing is tuned the rewards are stellar. I am 65.

I just tried cutting carbs to less than 50g per day. I couldn't sleep at all by the 3rd night. I used to have no problem fasting when younger. Dr Mindy Pelz talks about only fasting during high estrogen at the beginning of your monthly cycle but not after ovulation during high progesterone at the end. So many health suggestions seemed to get reversed after a couple of years for women. Turns out we are not men and often need to do the opposite. I was at my healthiest when doing a diet called Creating Wellness by Patrick Gentempo DC. It had 3 meals and 2 snacks and counted portions of protein, carbs, and fat. I think we just have to admit that we are all different and you have to do what works for you. I'm glad you are sharing more on genetic testing! I think that will help explain why certain things work better.

Women need to stop modeling their health after men. You need more sleep than a man. Your hormonal cycle is roughly 28 days compared to the 24hr cycle of a man. You don't tolerate fasting as well as a man. You aren't as stress resilient compared to a man.
      Women are not small men.

I've found that long term intermittent fasting has led to a very significant decrease in overall appetite. I recently found that I easily skip meals and I am not bothered by hunger to a greater degree. This means I now have to be quite mindful that I DO make sure I am getting the nutrients I need. Being diligent and mindful is the best tool in my case, and likely many others.

I'm almost five years into my low carb/keto/IF/whole food journey, and it has been a wonderful and beneficial ride. I've come to the conclusion that the way we talk about this allows us to slide around the main point/problem. We need to have a whole food diet. A whole food diet solves so many problems. IF becomes normal because you don't want to eat as often. Carbs go way down because there aren't so many carbs available on a whole food diet. THE problem, of course, is that cutting out junk calories is very hard, it prevents emotional management through junk calories.

I agree. THE big problem for the west, IS the Standard American Diet (SAD). It's the horrible thing commercially driven, that is causing all the west's many disease epidemics. Consume an appropriate human diet, healthy whole foods (non mass produced) and our bodies will do the rest. Also avoid all their nasty medications with their many side effects (damage potential), and never consume chemical factory produced or processed fake "foods".

What I have noticed so far is if I’m not starting out with a keto lifestyle longer fasting has problems. I love fasting. After day two is when I feel the benefits and it’s easier to go longer each time. I stopped eating ALL sugars and glucose products back in January. The difference is great. I don’t miss them. I cheated a few times and felt sick afterwards. I don’t enjoy those products anymore.

So now l inject insulin 2x a day & 1 atorvastatin pill every night, I manages/monitor my glucose & avoiding carbs, no vitamin supplements but plenty of water, different kinds of tea, zero sugar Gatorade for my electrolytes, & black coffee, prefers having fish, boiled eggs, steamed most vegetables, & in moderation of fruits & red/white meats. So far, all my lab works are good except for HbA1C & D3 deficiency, and l do a lot of walking & swimming, as my exercise regimen, & also takes plenty of rest & sleeps for 7 hours. So because I’m doing intermittent fasting for 16 hours & just eating & having fluid intake within my 8 hour window, now my question is, do l have to prolong intermittent fasting just to lower my glucose & hopefully reverse my insulin resistance? Fasting is not recommended for everyone. Fasting was never intended for the human being it was only because in the old civilizations they has scarce amount of food and sometimes went without feeding for 3-4 days at a time, so the the body had to find a survival mechanism to adapt itself so it wouldn't shutdown or become fatal.

My wife nearly died from ketoacidosis this summer. Initially, doctors suspected it might be a manifestation of type 1 diabetes, but it turned out not to be the case. They asked her : 'Are you following a keto diet?' 'No, but my husband is, and I tend to eat similarly to him.' Given that she was lactating at the time, it appears that there is now documentation suggesting that a combination of keto and lactation can potentially lead to ketoacidosis.

IF was not enough for me. Prolonged fasting is the only way I have found to keep my BP and GL down and remain in extended states of autophagy, which is the main purpose for my fasting.
Amino acids take you out of autophagy as does many vitamins. It takes another 20 hours to get back into that state. Sea salt, electrolytes and MCT are the only things I take after the first day, maybe little raw organic butter in my every-other-day bullet coffee. Anything else signals that something is being introduced and autophagy is not necessary, and you come out of that state. That is a major setback to me.
There are a lot of reasons to fast, but for me, Autophagy is the main reason, and really, when you think about, everything else comes as an added bonus, like stem cell production, visceral fat loss, slow or reverse aging and the more obvious weight loss, clarity of thinking, fat burning adaptability, the list goes on. Metabolic Syndrome is my issue and it took 25 years of abusing my body for me to get to where am today (or where I started my journey back 2 years ago), it will take years to repair the damage, if I am not too late.

    Sharing Dr Berg notes:
Some of the top benefits of fasting include weight loss, cognitive improvements, and enhanced heart function.
Most of the dangers of fasting I’m going to cover aren’t related to a 16 to 18-hour fast. This applies more to prolonged fasting, which is when a person fasts for 48 to 72 hours-or even longer.
The purpose of eating is not just to get fuel. It’s also to get nutrients. When you’re fasting, you’re restricting nutrients. If your diet isn’t providing you with the nutrients you need when you do eat, you could end up with deficiencies that lead to certain issues.
It’s crucial to do a prolonged fast correctly and avoid common mistakes related to the dark side of fasting.
The dark side of prolonged fasting:
    1. Refeeding syndrome
When you come off of a fast, have a small amount of food, wait a couple of hours, and have a little bit more. Avoid overeating or eating carbs.
    2. Dirty keto
Make sure you consume nutrient-dense, high-quality foods on the keto diet.
    3. Not taking nutrients while fasting
At the bare minimum, you need to take electrolytes, sea salt, trace minerals, and B vitamins while fasting.
    4. Kidney stones
Avoid high-oxalate foods if you’re prone to kidney stones. Also, consume at least two and a half liters of fluid a day, and add lemon juice to your water. When you’re back to having meals, consume large salads.
    5. Anorexia
Anorexia will cause nutritional deficiencies. Instead of fasting, get on the keto diet.
    6. Athletes that have not adapted to fat yet
Give your body enough time to become fully fat-adapted before attempting prolonged fasting.
    7. Fasting for children
Fasting isn’t a good idea for children. Eating three meals a day and cutting out snacking may be beneficial for children. Teenagers who are overweight may consider two meals a day without snacking.
    8. Not getting enough nutrition while pregnant or lactating
Not getting enough nutrients while pregnant or lactating can lead to issues for the mother and child. Choosing a whole-food, natural prenatal vitamin over a synthetic prenatal vitamin is also important.
    9. Muscle loss
If you’re older and noticing muscle loss, try adding a blend of amino acids to your diet.
    10. Ketoacidosis
This rare condition occurs in people under very specific circumstances and isn't something most people should be concerned about.
    Thank you Dr Berg!

I'm 53 and was successful on keto for 5 years (losing 85 pounds in 3 months and keeping it off). Then around Jan 2021 full blown menopause kicked in and I could feel my body changing. Muscle loss and simultaneous fat gain in breast, stomach and hips. My body composition totally shifted within 3 months. Bloated ALL the time, joint and muscle pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, depression, anxiety and a 20 pound weight gain! I struggled for over a year doing keto, carnivore, fasting, anything I could think of but my weight wouldn't budge and the pain kept getting worse. The things I did that helped are: started with a low dose BHRT, added a high quality probiotic (I take Ritual), then added an iodine supplement. I started feeling better immediately, less bloating, less pain, but no weight loss. I saw a comment regarding inositol on one of dr. bergs menopause videos. I added 2000mg of inositol twice a day and I've finally lost 10 pounds after a couple months. I'm stopped my BHRT in favor of these supplements I'm feeling pretty good so far. I would suggest researching inositol and iodine for hormone health. At our age it's all about hormone balance unfortunately. Hope this helps.

Great videos as always and thank you for sharing! Part of the problem with IF is that, like most diets, they are not studied on women as well as they are on men. And what works well for men doesn’t necessarily work well for women. We evolved to be frequent snackers, we did not evolve for long term frequent fasting. It doesn’t match what is needed for our hormones and can induce a lot of cortisol and stress. It also accelerates loss of lean muscle, which increases the risk for osteoporosis. And it also increases the risk of gallstones, which I’m going through now trying IF for over a year. Our blood sugar levels have to be stable in order to produce the right hormones for fertility, pregnancy and also post partum. Also we need adequate insulin levels for adequate thyroid hormone production. And for those with adrenal fatigue, this is absolutely the wrong diet for them in the majority of cases. I tell women in my clinic instead to do carb cycling. Eat a lot of fat and protein in the morning, with very little carbs. In the afternoon, a lot of vegetables and some fat. In the evening, complex carbohydrates and protein. On alternate days, eat more protein and fat and less carbohydrates. I know so many people are married to keto, but honestly I think its kind of a limiting belief that it is the only diet that works. There is a world of difference b/w carbohydrates from quinoa or black beans and carbohydrates from refined flour and sugars. I’m not a huge proponent of keto unless there is a specific need for it for which they may benefit, such as metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, type II diabetes, estrogen dominance or PCOS and are overweight. The exception is the lean type PCOS, they need to eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Otherwise, this manner of eating isn’t really beneficial.

Well, I'm a woman and have tested IF on... myself. I had a ton of preexisting issues, including breast cancer. It has balanced ALL my hormones, reduced my insulin resistance to none and also reduced my cortisol resistance & adrenal fatigue. It has aided in my response to stress, my ability to sleep better than I have since I was a child. Intermittent fasting does keep your blood sugar levels stable. Eating several times a day DOES NOT. Your levels fluctuate with every bit of food you eat, even snacks. And FYI- I opted for a wellness approach to my cancer, not poison/ burn and guess what? Undetectable!!!
My oncologist, who was certain she'd be planning my palliative care, is stunned. And really curious what I've done. I bet she is!!!

I understand your concern, I would just point out that less than 4% dietitians in the UK are male while in America that figure increases to a whopping 8%, the rest are ladies. This is why men have to take a lot of main-media-diet-advice with care as there is a HUGE bias toward promoting a high-estrogenic-diet. I agree that hormones are key (and the core problem for those that seek to redefine their gender) as is the percentage of body-fat that is ideal for men vs ladies.

I purposefully will eat some complex carbs a few times per week (on workout days) and walk/workout 3-4 times per week. Listen to your bods and don’t overthink it. @46 I’m as strong and muscular as ever, pretty sure some genetics play a role.

I've fasted for 17 to 18 hours every day for about 5 years, mainly because I want to have something to look forward to in the evening in a meal. I never feel hungry in the day since doing it, I guess it's just something you get use to.

Then a couple hours later I'll have a sandwich if I'm still hungry. After that, I don't eat anything till the following 6 till 7 pm day.

I just heard a certified nutritionist/trainer say we should NOT be looking at NET carbs, but TOTAL carbs for Keto. Many people responded with, "But I lost a ton of weight." her answer to that was, "You were in a calorie deficit." I am so confused about Keto and IF. Is there any truth or fact to this? Should we look at total and no net? I appreciate your feedback!

I have no expert but I can tell you a couple things to make sure you're doing right and that's your HCL stomach acid has to be low enough and also your bile has to be flowing properly.
A side note. I used to eat peanuts a lot and wondered why I was having prostate problems so I started learning around these rooms

    • @SpamMouse

Drop diary for prostate health, DB has videos on this point. Some "loss" of muscle will be sugar and water stored in muscles. If you maintain an exercise programme that you do BEFORE eating, this will teach your body that muscle is important because you need to have power to gain food. Increase your protein per day, 1.5 > 2g /Kg / Day. Eat with Apple Cider Vinegar.

    • @Avengedsevenfoldrocks
      @Avengedsevenfoldrocks Рік тому +2

But again the key to this equation is making sure your body is able to absorb the nutrients and if your stomach doesn't break down the food properly and then the bile flow doesn't convert it back to alkaline, you'll have problems in your small intestine like Sibo; the food will end up fermenting in your large intestine and cause problems

I completed my first 72 hour fast yesterday and I followed Dr. Berg's advice and ate a small meal at my first meal of a little broiled fish and a small amount of kimchi. I also drank sugar free electrolytea in water and herbal tea during the fast plus I took my New Chapter multi vitamin which is fermented and can be taken on an empty stomach. I ate another protein meal for my second meal...a little more but not excessive. Then I got a little sick.
My symptoms were heart palpitations, bad feeling stomach, heavy eyelids, muscle weakness, and diarrhea. I don't think it was the fasting itself. I had seen another of Dr. Berg's videos where he said we need about 4500 mg of Potassium daily so my electrolyte powder (Keppi) contains 1000 mg of potassium in one scoop. I was having 4 scoops each day plus an extra pinch of Potassium citrate to get me up to that 4500 mark each day of the fast and I think that could have been either too much for me...orntoo little?. The symptoms I had (arrhythmia, nausea, diarrhea, muscle weakness) are the same for both issues so I don't know yet what to do. I noticed when I started chugging water to flush my system, the symptoms abated within a few hours which made me think it was too much...but I saw one of Dr. Berg's videos where he said 4500 up to 6000 mg may be optimal so I don't see how I could have over ingested Potassium.
I may wait to do another 72 hour fast but I am amped to do a 48 hour to 60 hour fast in another week. I cannot begin to describe the euphoric feeling I felt while fasting. I'm obese and prediabetic so I had been having inflammation and difficulty losing weight even on keto. I started at 306 (5'5" tall) when I began keto back in August of this year and was to about 289 when I began the fast. I weighed the morning of the third day of the fast (even though I continued to fast until 2:30) and I was down to 284. Not a ton of weight lost considering my size and the fact that I ingested no food and did two brisk 20 minute walks a day but still nothing to sneeze at. My twice daily walks on the treadmill felt so good while fasting. I had no inflammation/pain. I felt no depression and for the first two days had boundless energy and great sleep. Very minimal hunger pangs the first day. I used the free time I got back from not having to prepare food to take and Epsom salt bath each night. All in all, in spite of that one bout of sickness, I would do it again. I felt so well.
I was so hesitant and afraid to try prolonged fasting but I would encourage anyone who has been doing healthy keto and intermittent fasting for a while and not getting the kind of results you want or just feeling crappy due to metabolic issues to give it a try. I feel it's going to be a game changer for me.
I grew up in the south where large portions and lots of starches and sugar were the norm. I was not breast fed and back then, when you were low on formula, supplementing or tiding a baby over until more food could be sourced meant giving infants Karo syrup (HFCS) and water OR mixing pablum (baby cereal) made of finely ground processed grains into the formula and making a bigger hole in the bottle nipple so the infant could suck it down and get full. So I've been ingesting foods the spike blood sugar and induce metabolic illness practically since birth...until now.
    Thank you, Dr. Berg! ❤

Potassium can't be supplemented in large amounts. Can be lethal, and is most likely the reason you had heart palpitations, which is terrifying! The most you should supplement would be less than 100 mg per day.
