I'll be all right without you
I'll be all right, that's, uh, you need to do the lawn version. It's a journey journey, does the song? I'll be all right, you don't have to live
Once, when asked how it felt to be the greatest voice in rock, Freddie Mercury said simply, "Ask Steve Perry".
AMAZING!!!
The best Malé voice ever no doubt about MR STEVE PERRY
This song gave me chills when it came out and 2024 I feel the same. Best vocalist EVER! He gives you all the feels
What else can you say…Steve Perry…..One of the best rock voices ever!
-#steveperry-- !- 🔥💯🔥
To me he is the best 🔥
He doesn't just sing with his throat. He sings with his whole body.
Other than Freddie Mercury...he is the next best!!!!
@@michaelcorvin951pp
His voice SOARS like no other...
The tonal quality of his voice dose not change through the octaves . It's a rare ability that very few singers have . That is what makes unique to your ears .
-does-
Absolutely-rare quality for sure.
Hi!!. I subscribed to your page through Journey, especially Steve Perry, who in my opinion is one of the greatest interpreters that have ever existed and is highly underestimated. After looking at countless criticisms of Journey's performances, I haven't come across any that say Steve isn't voice privileged. I am also a fan of Mercury and even so it seems to me that it is debatable in terms of vocal capacity. Mercury was a great Showman but Perry for me is the voice. Many judge Steve for not having the reaches of before, but what would have happened if Mercury had to suffer the same judgment today? It's not fair. Steve should be recognized for what he left us and what he can provide now. He did not die and he did not have such a controversial life, he did not have a movie and the new generations know him. But, that does not detract from his unparalleled contribution to music. Hopefully and the new generations can know about him. I thank you so much for taking the time to get to know him and I hope you make him known because he deserves it. Thank you. I'm from México SO sorry for the grammar mistakes.
80's were all about ballads, REO, Def Leppard, Scorpions, Foreigner, and or course Journey.
Big Journey fan here & I’ve never been able to believe they NEVER had a #1.
Nobody sings a power ballad like Steve 🎵
agree
Only 1. John Farnham.
Freddie Mercury does! 🎶
@@SummerRose56 nope
@@gram5751 Evidently you haven't heard Who Wants to Live Forever (Queen Live in Budapest 1986), or Somebody to Love (Queen Live in Montreal 1981)? 😁
Steve was "The Voice". But what girl would not want Steve singing to her. I saw Journey in person and Steve was amazing.
late 60's to early 80's was the golden age of rock
Epitome. E-PIT-TOE-ME. I would have to agree that Journey is the epitome of classic Rock power ballads.
I laughed out loud when I heard this. I was just thinking about comedian Brian Regan’s “ Epitome of Hyperbole “ routine 😂
Yep, that took me aback just a little
The Best voice of all time
Steve Perry was definitely in a league of his own no singer could touch his vocal ability always pitch perfect
Listen to - When you love a Woman
They were the one's who started it!!!😊😊😊
Steve always put every piece of his every cell to every performance ❤️
He sounds exactly like you want him to sound in person. I was at this performance and it was amazing.
Nice reaction video. Steve Perry is incomparable. He stands and delivers, pitch perfect, emotion-filled. One of kind. No autotune, backing tracks, computer enhancement. Great live performance,
Steve Perry and Karen Carpenter are two of the most beautiful voices of the 20th century. No auto tune necessary. Good luck with todays so called “artists”.
Jonathan on the keyboard 🎹 and Steve’s voice are so beautiful
CHILLS! Every time - CHILLS.
Neal hated this song and didn't want it on the album; there wasn't much of a guitar part for him and it was soft. He tried to distract and sabotage Steve he was laying down the vocal tracks. But Steve and Jon fought to keep it on the album. Neal didn't want to play it live; when they finally did, the crowd went crazy. This is why women threw roses - and other things - at Steve Perry in concerts and why they started to show up in droves at Journey concerts. journey is one of the bands that pioneered the power ballad and this was one of the first. Steve is flawless; never loses his cool and oversings or goes off key, just relaxed and perfect with that lovely soft note at the end. Most guys can't keep still enough to accomplish that, but with Steve it was all about the performance and making it as perfect as he possibly could. And I think you'll agree that this performance was pretty darn perfect.
You just can't help singing along to Journey.
I'm shocked none of their hits reached #1!
If you haven’t watched Heavy Metal yet, do yourself a favor and find it. So full of 80s goodness!
Lights and Wheel in the Sky are the two top tunes downloaded now but in those days, the top two purchased nationwide.
thank you for being moved to sing along, and not being afraid to. i sing along every time too.
Short song but an eternal classic !💥
Amazing song and gorgeous voice❤ love it
I was at this concert. Thank you so much for providing the opportunity to relive and your reaction brings it all back.❤❤❤❤❤❤
I graduated in 1983...Journey was/is a fave!!
Oh the MEMORIES!!! 🎉❤ I was able to see the Escape tour 6 times!!! I saw Frontiers in Philadelphia, June 4, 1983. JFK Jam ... The Tubes, Sammy Hagar, Loverboy and Brian Adams 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶😎 rock n roll baby!
It's been over 40 years but hearing this live again still gives me a chill.
Saw them on this tour in 1982, and again on the Frontiers tour in 1983.
You can't go wrong with any song from this concert.
They played newer ones from the album and some older ones that had the crowd on its feet and singing along.
I have heard this song 100s of times and I still get the chills, sometimes even a tear, it's so good❣
Lucky 🍀
I don't think he's human, I think he was like a robot back then😂❤️
Suggestions for more Journey: 'Still They Ride' live in Tokyo 1983, "Send Her My Love" official video, "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" official video.
Steve's voice is beautiful, he and Freddie both were gifted to us. ❤️
Seen Journey quite a bit, didn't get to see Queen or Zep though. 🥺
Imagine...arena full of screaming people and then you have the instruments blaring and you have to sing...perfectly??!?! 😳
And we get this...sublime.
Say what you will about GenX and Boomers...BEST MUSIC EVER!! 👍🏽🤩
Geniales 👏🥰🥰🥰
His voice has been compared to melting chocolate.
Love Freddie but Steve Perry is in my soul.
Steve Perry. He sings with his heart and soul. His voice takes you on a "journey" with him. Freddy Mercury said it best... Steve Perry.. The Voice!
The voice!
This is my favorite reaction you've done so far! I felt you apprecate it like I do. 😊
@@Stevenrayperry Dude, if you're the real Steve Perry or not, just know, I am a fan, in awe of your talent for 45 years!! You sang more songs on the soundtrack of my life than any other artist!! So, THANK YOU!! 😊
@@Stevenrayperry Thank you. One day I may get the guts to find out if this is real or not. But until then, I'll just pretend it is. 😊
"It's over already." Yep, that was how I felt about this song. I got Goosebumps, which were all over on my skin, and then the song was over.
When I see him perform I wonder why I’ve not heard about him on broadway stage. He has such a moving and theatrical style.
This is one of those "sea of Bic lighters" songs! Oooh, baby
I just read this album is the G.O.A.T. with 18 times platinum in just the U.S.!❤
LOVE Journey! In my top 5 bands of ALL time! 🙂👍
Hello Kimberlini,
how're you doing?
Your comments caught my attention
and that is why I am reaching out to you.
Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!
It's nice meeting you here.
FYI, epitome is properly pronounced e-PIT-o-me - not EPI-tome.
I was going to say that. I’m glad you did. It’s one of those words he’s probably seen written but never heard spoken. I was trying to think of the best way to show it…e PIT .toe me was what I came up with.
Steve Perry is a heart breaker- fabulous!!
Open arms is one of my favorite songs, done by one of my favorite singers. That man has a golden voice, and is a smoking hot human being!
The fact that they never had a number one hit is astonishing. This may be a testament to the music of that era.
You MUST react to OFFICIAL video to faithfully. Provides a true outlook of life on the road and how passionate of a group they were.
Live on Record, Steve Perry sings the same......... love your vids and reaction.
Steve Smith power drummer. I own a piece of his signed artwork 🎨
I love Steve Perry - his voice is just magical no matter when or where. I will sit and listen with you to his voice forever if you want.
Back in the day when musicians were first trying to get their videos on the very new MTV… in those very early days the only videos musicians had were from their live shows!!! And I agree you can’t find better power ballads anywhere than Mr Steve Perry singing theirs to you!!! Man it was good to be a teen in the 80s!!! Our music was great… MTV was all about the music & the musicians… our fashion was crazy but we wore it with pride!!! My home stereo, my car stereo & my walkman wore out more than one cassette of every Journey album I bought over the years.
Steve Perry's voice is beautiful and powerful. Glad you reacted to this song
For the most part you could say Journey plowed the road for Stadium Power Ballads ❤
“Send her my love” next
steve perry is the man I want singing when I get to Heaven. Pink Floyd playing the guitar and Rush right beside Pink Floyd.
Yes Houston, Texas!! The best State in the nation. Soo many great artist/ singers from the great state... From Janis Joplin to Beyonce to Kris Kristofferson to Edie Brickell to George Strait to Lisa Loeb to Nora Jones to Eryka Badu and sooo many more...Willie Nelson, Vanilla Ice, Selena, Barry White, Nellie, Kenny Rogers, George Jones, Lyle Lovett, Sly Stone,Don Henley, Buddie Hollie....and more.
Cheers
Even decades later, I hear this song and once again my clothes are just suddenly on the floor. 🙃
I know I'm late to the party, but thank you for your Journey reactions. Steve Perry has, in my opinion, the best voice. I think he sounds better live than in studio. He also sings with such passion. He wasn't called The Voice for nothing. You should listen to "Who's Crying Now" from this same concert. Love Steve Perry!!
Now we're talking! 💕 I was 10 when this song came out, never gets old. Can you believe this band has never won a Grammy?
Wat girl did a number on you and broke your heart!!!! These sad songs by excellent singers like Steve Perry just makes you cry.....also Art Garfunkel......Freddie Mercury......Stevie Nicks....Karen Carpenter.....Elton John......Jon Anderson(Yes)....they all get to you. every time they open their mouths and utter their golden voices with heavy sad words......you are not telling us ...but someone I am thinking "a girl" really really hurt you....and these songs touch your heart.
Wait till you see STONE IN LOVE from the 81 Houston concert....OH MY!!!!!
Love Steve Perry also known as the voice. Suggest When You Love a Woman the video 🔥
This was a KICKASS show!
One of the best live performances you’ll ever see. You have to react to Mother, Father from this concert. It is mind blowing…..Wait, you already did lol.
Hearing this actually makes me sad with all the trouble between the members now.
But Steve Perry, during his Journey time or as a solo artist, just can’t be beat. His voice is Golden!
Please, please, please react to some of his songs off his solo album Traces:
1) We’re Still Here
2) Most Of All
3) You Belong To Me
Lights, When You Love a Woman, Wheel in the Sky, his solo song Foolish Heart, all gorgeous
In Journey's case, they didn't do concept videos until Separate Ways. So, yes, this was the official video.
I was on the edge of 17 when this album came out. Takes me right back there!!
Steve Perry (known as "The Voice:") is incredible. Love this song, along with so many others of Journey. Their song "Don't Stop Believing" was inducted into the Library of Congress last year. Check it out from the Houston live performance (same live performance as this one) Amazing aren't they!
This is a beautiful power ballad that Steve soars with his amazing vocals. You will love it!
This was my Senior Prom theme song, a long time ago and it still gives me chills.
Kelly Clarkson, Dixie Chicks,Jessica Simpson.... If your ever in TEXAS stop by Luckenbauk or Greene Texas youll never know who may show up to entertain everyone. Good ole Texas and good ole Texans.!! Sorry - us Texans are just proud like that!!
As they say in Britain ~ brilliant ! This song will turn anyone's heart, trying to express their love, into sobbing knots. Been there done that, ~ Lori, you gave me Joureny ...and then you left. Yet still, my heart and arms are open all these years late ..... Peace, and love.
Hello Jesse,
how're you doing?
Your comments caught my attention
and that is why I am reaching out to you.
Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!
It's nice meeting you here.
Excellent point about Steve and Freddy. They wore their hearts in their voices, and both had such amazing tone and power no matter the octave they were in. All beauty.
It was on the radio a LOT that winter. I’m surprised it didn’t reach #1.
This is one of my favourite Journey songs and it touches my heart every time I listen to it. Love Journey, and Steve Perry, The Voice is the best of the best. He is in a league all by himself. Would you please react to Still They Ride from their Tokyo 1983 live concert? I think you'd really enjoy that beautiful song. As well, I recommend Oh, Sherrie and Foolish Heart from Steve Perry's solo album Street Talk. He made two music videos for those and both songs are very powerful and gorgeous as well. Thanks so much.
I never got that see Journey live, but I did see Queen, with Freddie Mercury. They’re both rock Gods to me, but Steve just melts my heart. Freddie was great, just a different style. Love them both but Steve has my heart.
Their best concert EVER!!!!!!!!!
Journey was my first concert in April of 1980, I was 15.
Steve Perry is called THE VOICE
They are so awesome. One of the greatest bands. Keep reacting to them.
First concert ever for me back in 84. Bryan Adams opened for them. Great show.
Definitely one of the best concerts I ever went to. The show was perfect. And we knew it was being recorded, so there was a lot of excitement in the air.
In the early days, MTV actually didn’t have enough promo vids to show, hence bands having video singles from the same gig.👍😎
Oh boy. Today I was just working on some school work. I’m 17 and I’m an absolute fan of classic rock (And A7X) So here I am getting some work done working with the teacher on a laptop. Open Arms suddenly and randomly plays in my mind. I plugged in my earbuds and listened to it. Suddenly my emotions show me like I was half-sad and half happy. My left eye looks like it was gonna water and shed out a tear. Didn’t happen FYI. Felt like I just wanted to cry and sing along to this song though I was working at a desk with a teacher haha. My mother absolutely loves this song. She was born in 74’ along with my dad who’s also born in 1974. God I thank Journey for making such a memorable and greatest song ever.
Please buy their greatest hits cds and the live Houston concert. My favorite 😍
Jonathan Cain wrote part of a song with The Babys; he showed it to John Waite, who was not impressed.
With Journey, Perry was talking about wanting to create ballads. Cain played what he had, then the two of them finished the song.
Schon was not sure how the song would be received.
They used the song in a concert ( before it had been released as a single ) and "the place became unglued" ( Schon's phrasing )
Written by Steve Perry and Jonathan Cain. Produced by the late Kevin Elson and late Mike Stone. In the movies Heavy Metal and Last American Virgin.
Great ballad! 1 of the best singing efforts of Steve Perry in Journey!
The album Escape closed with a hit ballad! 2 years later, True did that for Spandau Ballet! 🇬🇧
In 1980, Jonathan Cain was in The Babys . He wrote a piano instrumental. He showed it to lead singer John Waite. He rejected it!
The Babys broke up.
Meanwhile, keyboardist Greg Rolie retired. JC auditioned. Journey hired him. JC showed the instrumental to Steve Perry. He liked it and wrote the lyrics. The instrumental became Open Arms!
Backlash! Neal Schon hated to play it! Steve Perry was going to beat him up if NS was not going to have it in the Escape album!
What about John Waite? 3 years later, he wrote Missing You with country music songwriter Charles Sanford (who wrote for Stevie Nicks) and Mark Leonard. JW ain't missing Open Arms at all! LL
In 1987, Journey broke up. JC and JW reunited. They brought Ricky Phillips, Deen Castronovo and Neal Schon to form Bad English. 🇬🇧🇺🇸. Unfortunately, their last album was released 31 years ago.
They broke up. But JW got hits as a solo artist again , and Journey reunited. But Steve Perry left again.
Suggested Bad English music video Straight to Your Heart.
Suggested John Waite music video Missing You.
RIP Kevin Elson, Mike Stone, ex Journey manager Herbie Herbert, a few months ago. He reunites with Bill Graham, since his fatal accident, Oct 1991, after watching Huey Lewis, for another Journey.
What feels different.... That's ambiance of an original artist. They project the emotions from the soul. They move as the meaning moved them. And you feel what you're meant to feel. Something few and far between since.
Steve Perry is amazing! ❤❤❤❤❤
When God made Steve Perry,..he broke the mold. He knew there could only be this one.
Great video, SalvoG. Love this song. And you’re, correct, Journey ruled the Power Ballad lane when they veered into it, which was often. BTW, Epitome is pronounced Eh-PIT-uh-MEE 😉
That concert ... incredible!
