#Level42
One of those Gods who contributed to the electric bass revolution and I don't understand how his greatness is not recognized universally. Too underrated in my opinion.
Except les Claypool.. He is Satan of bass
The whole band is underrated
except by other musicians..
I think many people know he is one of the best!
Back in their heyday, Level 42 were very well recognized, especially Mark King.
Les claypool can’t compete!
Level 42 is one of those bands, their 2 greatest hits ain't even close to how good their other stuff is.
Kind of like the band America.
New definition of COOL... finger strum slapped bloody chords while singing n chewing gum then add some swag moves! All at the same time!!That’s Mark King!!! 🥰
Yes absolutely so cool!!!! A real Level 42 fan right here!!
Paul McCartney was supposed to be the world's greatest bass player according to other sources 🤔 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@colindavies5603 cant wait for his upcoming collab with mick jagger. Finger crossed!😁
@@colindavies5603 i find that offensive ... and im an old white male , ... sorry ... im also straight ... im disabled ... does that count ?
im also a retired bass player and mr king has a vry annoying habit of raising the tempo to ellicit excitement ... i recently heard some EDM where the vocals sounded like alvin and the chipmonks ...if he keeps this up he will be a very poor guitarist
marks early work was exemplary
but paul mc cartney ... well he invented a few bits and pieces which is worth a mention ... could he match this or any wooten .. ?
@@EvilSean62 what the hell are talking about you want to
Leave the weed alone and curl up in bed with a picture of Darling Paul 😂😂😂😂😂
Love how Mark drops the 43 riff in the intro solo. He is such a phenomenal bassist!
Along side Stanley Clark, imp.
When I first learned how to play bass, Marcus Miller, Les Claypool and Victor Wooten were one of my biggest influencers on the bass, I heard of Mark King by accident when I was on vacation in London, My wife is English and she is definitely familiar with level 42 and they were performing One night while we were walking around London. So we checked in Because tickets were only 15 euros, And I was blown away how Mark King was playing! Fast thumb and made it sound so smooth!
Whaaaaaat? I thought Level 42 was just some ballad band. Wow, glad I found this. Unbelievable! 🤯
Play the pursuit of Accidents Album.
@@user-eo2oz2tf4q I’ll second that. Pursuit would easily be my favorite album from them. Cheers!
All of them are highly proficient musicians, a very technical band, hugely underrated.
Poor you guys that never have heard of Mark King. Davie did good to send you here.
Agree
what is his best song?
@@kvaket lesson in love or running in the family... But I also suggest u to try children say slap mix
Wise words
@@kvaket All of 'Level 42's studio albums are on UA-cam, so why not give them a listen? I can guarantee (there's that pun again) that there are some real gems among them. You certainly won't be disappointed. Enjoy.
criminally underrated bassist. such a shame that the majority only know him as being the frontman of level 42, he deserves so much more respect
Wassup his genius was not so diversified into new only repeatedly bass lines
Not underrated at all.
We only heard of them through Top 40 radio.
Der ist doch nicht Unterbewertet!? Wo lebst du denn? Blödsinn..
Legit, best live bass tone ever!?!?
Close between him and geddy Lee for all time best live tone
@@conkareno what about Sheehan
Agreed... bright & bubbly with a bit of grind but not harsh. I've always strived for a nice clear tone like that!
It's such a fantastic slap tone
Robert Deleo of STP also has a fantastic live tone.
He's hittin' that thing like it owes him money...
Not "hittin" ...."slapping"
He´s slapping that thing like it owes him an orgasm
For all of you new to Level 42 and Mark King, just wait till you see him play bass AND sing!
All while chewing gum.
OMG!!!!! I am dying in aw everytime! 😅 🎶
He plays bass like a beast!! 🫢😀
A monster of modern bass that still enjoy when he plays! His simplicity in making music at light speed is astonishing!
Had the immense pleasure of seeing Level 42 ,3 times back in 85/86 ..Sure wish Canada might be included in some future tours ..
Well, if there is enough demand from both US and Canadian fans, they might just consider it.
In fact, they've just announced new tour dates for 2023, so why not have a peep on their official website and see if any of them will be held near you?
That is insane!
gary is such a beast on drums and makes everything sound so simple!
Magnifique morceau sacré bassiste ❤❤
*Legends say that this man's thumb can slapp the earth in half*
His thumb can break the space-time continuum. Which is why he tapes it for safety reasons.
I can't stop watching, listening, and admiring the mastery with is AK-47 bass. He's a Mark King beast!!!,and with the band he explodes everything!!!. Thank you so much Level 42!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Ok yes! Love this instrumental so funky.
Your lack of grammar disturbs me
The original studio version of this great, funky instrumental track is available on their 'Early Tapes' album, if you are interested.
Et tu brute?
When the horns kick in all I can think is "LIVE from New York, it's SATURDAY NIGHT!!".😁
Love Mark king since the beginning of his carrier . Insane playing
You can obviously tell that Mark just really LOVES what he does and has a real passion for music, especially when it comes to playing at the band's consistently sold out 'Live' gigs. He's a total jazz funk legend, a phenomenal bass player and a fantastic musician.
I'll be going to see them play again at The Sage, Gateshead on October 14th this year and I can hardly wait, as they always put on a great show for their loyal fans.
The whole song is like one giant bass solo throughout from beginning to end.
Almost all their songs are. 🎵 Just gotta love it!! 🎶 🙂
Never get tired of hearing the master at work x
First time ever hearing this bassist. Amazing. And oddly enough, I immediately knew he was playing through a trace Elliot amp. I’m Happy to own one myself and get to play with those same sounds. Hard to get these days!
They are heavy af though, I used to have one 😀
Your first time and i've been listening to him and Level 42 for 40 odd years lol
I remember having on my old computer a video of this concert, I always love to watched as a teen. Everything about this bass is amazing, the player, the set-up, the audio, the tuning. Everything. Great to see it on UA-cam with good quality
I had a similar video, was it live at the Jazz cafe though?
How is the crowd even staying seated and still to this banger?!?!?!
I know! Dryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
That's because they are listening
They were in shock for the first minute 🤯
In shock
Zombies
What the...? I used to listen to their pop music back in the 80s, had NO IDEA they could shred this hard. Amazing.
ABBA basslines are some of the most meticulous grooves ever.
Level 42 started out ~ 1980 as a Jazz/Funk/Pop/Fusion band. They started to drift more into mainstream in '85 with the "World Machine" album. The '86 successor "Running In The Family" was a full pop album but still full of musical craftsmanship.
@@svenschwingel8632 Their 'Running In The Family' album wasn't released until 1987, although it was preceded several months earlier by their UK No3 smash hit single 'Lessons In Love'.
Davie 504 sent me here. How have I never heard of these guys before. Holy hell there amazing.
Have you been living in a cave since the 80s? 🤣
@@clivemitchell4316 that’s not a really valid question, they only appeal to people who like good music and we know the majority of the world listens to trash
I'm glad he finally spoke about them, I remember seeing a comment of his a while back on a level 42 video talking about how much he liked mark king as a bass player
yeah, davie is cool!
Are you American? I notice Americans tend to ignore his existence. When Mark Kings one of the greatest.
Staggering, absolutely staggering.
Fan eversince Hot Water in the early eighties when I was in my teens. Absolute awesome live version! Killer King.
'Hot Water' was released in 1984 and was the first single taken from their album 'True Colours'. It reached No18 in the UK charts.
パキパキな音でキレキレの演奏ですね。好きです。
Just pure bass magic, honestly gives me goosebumps, just recommended another bass player to come and watch this because they are talented but seriously so much to learn on the bass watching and listening to this. Also fills me with absolute joy listening! Level 42 and Mark King may you go on forever!!
Speechless after watching it, a huge round of applause for the drummer keeping it together at that tempo & of course nothing can describe the masterful musings of Mr. KING. Reminded me of UZEB a bit.
The mighty Gary Husband (who also played on their 'Staring At The Sun' and 'Guaranteed' albums) is hitting the skins for them here.
These days, the equally great Peter Ray Biggin is the one sat behind the drum stool, as Gary is now off doing his own thing.
I remember having an argument with an old colleague in 1989. He was saying Flea was better on the bass than Mark King😂😂😂. Flea couldn't even lace King's boots 😅😅😅
Growing up as a bassist is realizing he is just a Flea among Gods.
The best version of this song!
In my opinion... The best version is on the "a physical presence" album.
But hey. Different strokes, different folks, different tastes.
I like this as well. But still.
A physical presence = the best.
And it’s the classic line up 😊
Watching & hearing Mark play the bass soothes me right down to my soul.
What I wouldn't give to be there to see it, live!
What were you doing in December 2001? 😭
The band are about to tour again in 2023 and have just announced the dates. Take a look (no pun intended) at their official website for details.
*Showing my Support with my **_Hairy Blue Thumb of Encouragement_** ⭐😃👍*
The best version ever
Hra ako keby to bolo jednoduché. Pan basgitarista ❤❤❤
Best Bass-Player in the Universe...
Ok this is now my all time favourite piece of music
One of the best ever@
Best ever recording of Mr Pink! Compressed to FeK!!
That’s just how status basses sound
Спасибо за видео, получил огромное удовольствие, супер музыканты. Бассист огонь парень -Классная команда. БРАВО!!!
Lovely play,,i have been a fan of this guy since day one,,just savage
Great gig in Swansea Arena was great to see MK again slapping the bass 👍🎸🎸🎸Bass Girl meets the Bass legend again yeah..what a gig!
Watching this bass playing is awesome.
Outstanding 😎
What an utter grin fest. I play bass but can't even dream about skill like that. And a fantastic group of musicians as well.
You could do it it just takes time and practice
@@unfunnydave5485 I'd have to live to 95, but you are right.
I've got the full concert of this on both CD and DVD. A great show with the legendary bass supremo Mark King playing at his most breathtaking and frenetic best.
He is also ably supported here by top session musicians, including his own younger brother Nathan on lead guitar.
I'd highly recommend any 'Level 42' fan getting themselves a copy of this DVD if they can. I guarantee (no pun intended) that they won't be disappointed.
Oh damnn! I want to see and have it!
best bass man n the world
Brilliant thanks julian for everything
God of bass with angels
I love this piece. What a tempo he set. Time has been extremely kind to The Early Tapes.
And the crowd goes wild! 😂
Amazing bassist and a cool singer
This has to be my absolute favourite beginning of a song
saw them at Leicester Polytechnic Arena back in '81/'82... stormed on like rock band... mind blown!
Le meilleur bassiste du monde, souvenirs.

This could be the greatest Mario kart song ever. It fits so well and mark king... SO GOOD

Absolutely stunning👏👏👏👏🙆♂️
GENIUS MARK KING..... TOTALLY UNDERRATED
Mark King. The Man With The Golden Thumb!
beuatiful song, tecnic in bass fantastc
legend
It sure is a speedy version but my absolute favorite version is on the “A Physical Presence” album.
That is a great live album!
Wonderful song, perfect execution with a thrilling sound!
Seated crowd? How could you not dance to this?!?
One King to rule them all. I could practice for a thousand years and not be able to play like him.
The best bassist to ever live. Mark King is amazing!!
No doubt.....no argument.
Just class
Best ofs 👌👍
Outrageous
An absolute legend on the stage and all those lemmings just sit there like stiffs.
They were too shocked to move 🤯
It’s called listening.
What an awesome player, Mark King is the King of bass!
Quel bonheur ! Merci
Love everything about Mark King. Great Tone and monster playing!
He definitely puts on a new set of strings every show
This is truly an amazing performance! All cred to the musicians! I have played a lot of drums myself, and I know something about the communication amongst musicians - I truly love how King gives some "speed examples" at the start, and kind of asks the others if this tempo is ok? They smile and go "OK, let´s do it!". Simply great! :D
Seen these guys twice already (2014 and 2017), gutted they've shelved their UK tour plans for Oct/Nov this year but understandable given what is going on atm. Good thing is the promoters have kept our tickets for next year 👍🎶🎵
Yo to all those that think Flea is a GOD of Bass this is what a Bass player looks and sounds like!
come on, you don't have to disgrace Flea . Flea has his own style .
No this is what this* bass player sounds like, not you and not 90 percent of the other bass players out there. Flea is a better than average bass player, he's not bad, he's just not on this level. Your comment is like me saying Steve Vai is what a guitarist sounds like. We all know almost no one you will ever meet has that level of ability or talent as a guitarist. Personally I think you putting down another musician just because alot of people like him and you know of someone else who is more proficient is extremely childish.
Both have contributed to this great instrument, there is no, and should be no comparison, the love of the 4 strings is in both of them, stupid comment
wtf is this comment
Flea is a GOD of bass. Can appreciate mark king too without dissing flea.
Stunning! Mr Pink, with ironic lighting by Mr Blue...😁
Man that was good!
Looking forward to receiving my "The Polydor Years" 10 CD collection and seeing them live in Nottingham later this year. It will be amazing 🥳
'The Polydor Years' 10 CD box sets were issued in two volumes at the same time.
The first one is housed in a white box design and covers the years 1980 to 1984, while the second one is black and spans 1985 to1989.
I have each of them in my collection and can highly recommend both.
Amazing
When the bassist is the lead guitarist ...then it all comes into line.
Great Band !!! & Killer Basist !!!
The legendary Mark Raymond King at your service.
I do love these cats. One of my favs is Physical Presence. This live performance is grade A.
The Beast❤
And that is what a tight band really means 😎
Mr. Mark King ( bassist ) started as a . . . .
wait for it . . .
Drummer - of course.
James Herfield too.
And if you wanna hear him play - find (somehow) his first solo album called Influences. It’s been out of print for awhile now, but I was lucky enough to get a CD back in the 80s. It’s AMAZING.
Me too... but I couldn't afford a drum set so I started learning basslines on an old nylon string acoustic 😅
EVERYONE should start out on drums
@@positivelybobby Funnily enough, I have that album.on CD, Cassette and LP and I've also just bought mint condition 7 inch and 12 inch copies of his single 'I Feel Free' that was taken from it.
Um verdadeiro show no contra-baixo
INCREDIBLLLLLEEEE😱😱😱😱😱
❤❤❤❤ fantastic excellent 👍
This is unique, amazing
