Been seeing these for a good deal on eBay lately. Very attractive for us Green PC Gamers. It’s crazy how similar these HP workstations are to the Dell Precision’s.

Yes! I'm eyeing a refurb on Amazon: great price, similar specs as those from the video, and I'll be saving Africa from another computer2Landfill situation. It comes with a high-end Quadro, but I can use my existing Nvidia to get some ooomph!!

Well, it's a relief to know it works well for your system! My "Cyber Monday" RTX 3060 card just arrived today, unfortunately dual 6-pin to 8-pin adapter won't be here for another week and every PC Component Brick & Mortar in the greater Seattle area has either gone out of business or is only carrying a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter which isn't going to supply the 170 watts this thing likes to slurp... I also got an Asus 4k Pro Art monitor and am looking forward to better color\contrast
esolution for video editing photo viewing as well as the Nvidia GPU horsepower to execute AI functions on photos in a more performant manner! The Quadro T400 card my Z4 G4 came with is woefully inadequate for the latest AI features in photo editing software!

I just purchased an HP Z4 G4 Xeon 2145. Do you have any suggestions in how I can render 4K video faster in using video editing programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects? I’m not really in tune with hardware, but will a newer GPU and more memory ram help in rendering at a faster speed?

You didn't show any driver install, pulling the old card out, etc. My power connector is on top of the RTX4080 and I don't think the side will go on with it on top, stupid, like that? Will my card work just plopping it in and turning on the unit?

I would very much like to find some resource that explains the Z4 G4 BIOS. It is so different compared to all the other non-workstation PC's I've owned and many of the advanced settings barely result in any matches on google search or give results that do not explain in simple terms some of the more obscure settings. HP does a very lousy job by not providing a comprehensive guide for each setting in the BIOS. If you know of any such resource I would be very grateful. I'm running an almost identical Z4G4 to the one in your video with the exception of the video card which is a RTX 3060 (Gigabyte) 12 GB VRAM and the W-2145 (octa core) and I'm still messing with the BIOS.

Picked up a refurbished one of these on newegg over the holidays becasue my Unraid server died. Mine has the xeon-w 2133 as well. First thing I did was add anther 32GB of ram i had laying around, then I picked up a dual 5.25 drive - to - three 3.5in drive bay adapter for the front of the case, so i can use a total of five 3.5in drives in my system. for disks im running these refurbished toshiba 16TB drives from newegg, they were only like $160 bucks, got two of those and a shucked WD 10TB drive for my main array. The remaining two drive bays I have two 2TB drives that I'm running in a cache pool. The 512GB ssd is also a cache pool...
So I ran it like this for awhile, then I popped in a GTX 1660 Super and a PCI-E USB 3.1 card to the system (I realize these are already on the system, but having a PCI USB card allows me to pass that entire PCI device to a VM)
Then I set up a Windows 11 VM (Using Tiny 11 since it has a lot of the bloat removed), passed the 1660 super and the USB card to the VM, gave the VM all 12 cores (since my server just hosts files and runs plex) and man, I'm really impressed! I do wish there were more drive bays, but as my storage grows I'll get larger disks instead of additional disks. less points of failure I guess.
I can decide what to upgrade next... I think I'd like more CPU cores and something a little faster, this makes the most sense to me because my gaming VM is entire virtualized and this gives me room to grow and to do more projects on the computational side. A better GPU would be nice! But honestly the 1660 super can play every game in my steam library no problem, I guess that's fine for now.
Overall this system has been super affordable for my needs and overall less maintenance than building my own system from scratch (like I had previously.) the only issue I ran into is my unit doesn't have the front PCI-E fan, so adding that USB card to the system prompted an error on bootup, saying its an unsupported configuration because it's missing the fan. :P easy fix for this is a 120MM fan can wedge perfectly in the case under the drive bays, its literally phyusically wedged in there, I hacked the fan connector to plug into the 4 pin fan header on the case and now it boots up with no errror message! lol. annd that fan spins so it has a lil extra flow. pretty cool ha.
    thanks for reading my story

That gets the 3070ti. BTW, go with the w-2145, it's by far the best bang for the buck. 8 core with high clock speeds.

You’d have to check with the supplier if the system includes a digital license. Most of the time the recyclers that sell on eBay won’t know how to check. Find a good deal, and consider it a bonus if it comes with a digital license on the system board.

I had the same HP Z4 G4 with 32 GByte ECC Ram installed. Swapped out the NVidia P1000 that came with the PC and installed the GEForce RTX 3060TI just like you showed on the video. Rebooted and the first problem I encountered as this "POST Error. 513-Configuration requires a Front Chassis fan and this fan is not detected. Press ENTER to continue" which I did. So it carried on with the installation. Next problem was only 1 display came on. I have a dual display monitor prior to swapping over to the RTX 3060TI. So I thought perhaps my monitor might have given up the ghost. So I had to reboot and just had only one display monitor on at a time. Both displays worked fine from each of the display ports on the RTX 3060TI. I had to reboot many times to do that test. But it proved that individually, the display ports were fine and the display monitor were fine. But when both display monitors were plugged into the RTX 3060TI ports, it can only detect one monitor. Any idea what is happening here?

Hey man I was able to score a z4g4 from work as we phased them out about a year ago. Been running my severely outdated gtx1050ti for about a year now and just tonight pulled the trigger on a RTX3060. Got a sweet deal on marketplace. My dual 6 pin to 8 pin adapter will be here tomorrow and I’m looking forward to swapping gpu’s out. Anything you can recommend? Currently have 64g of RAM and the Intel Xenon w-2123. We did beef them up when we ordered them as we run printing RIP engines all day on them. Also scored a liquid cooler ROG 3 fan and was hoping there would be some compatibility over the OE heat sink/fan. It appears to fit but haven’t really dove into it just yet. I really only play BeamNG and ATS with my simulator. So I’m hoping for decent results!

For RGB you could put an LED strip to the front and it should be visible through the front air intake, though for ARGB you'd need a controller because the workstation obviously doesn't have an ARGB header. I wouldn't recommend upgrading to a 4090, but something more like a 3060ti as you'll probably see CPU bottlenecks pretty badly since the cpu is from Intel 6/7th generation. Besides, the whole point of gaming with an old workstation is to game efficiently at a budget. If you're putting $2-300 into an old workstation like this and then wanting to throw in a $1500 GPU, that just doesn't make sense to do. Can the cpu handle it? Sure it can at high resolutions... but I wouldn't trust an old workstation I bought for 20% of a 4090 to feed 400w of power through. Throw a $3-600 card in it that doesn't pull a ton of power and call it a day :)

For Windows 11? You could use rufus to bypass the requirement, the CPU you have is too old to be officially supported anyway. The HP Z4/Z6/Z8 G4 are the oldest officially Win11 supported workstations from HP.

Hey bro, cpu Xeon Silver infact so week, very week same as Core i3 or celeron may be. It only better to compare with them when you run multi & heavy program, very good and much better loading 👍 i also using Hp Z6G4 and after change to cpu Xeon Gold everything changed to perfect👍also single or multi program

The Silver and Gold CPUs aren't made for gaming but the good news is that they are more expensive than the ones that are. Sell your 4114 and grab a w-2145. That is 8 cores of high clock speed goodness (3.7ghz base with 4.5ghz boost) and well under 100 bucks.

clearly the cpu not keeping up with gpu at 1080, certainly should play on 1440 to give more job to do for gpu that will allow cpu to breath
