It's incredible to think about modern CPU's.. I USED TO HAVE THIS PC!!! except it was a Core 2 Quad Q6600. it was from my grandpa, fixed it up, and used it two years for my gaming and work PC. seeing the case again makes me nostalgic
I did this same thing pretty much because I bought a BFG GTX 280 launch week of 08' and slapped it in my eMachines P4 desktop. I was confused why Crysis was 22fps lol. Even just upgrading to a C2D 6600 unlocked it mostly, but the card does surprisingly well with much nicer processors.
I wonder if one of the newer AMD RX 6000 graphics cards would do better. They perform more tasks on the GPU instead of farming it out to the CPU, so you can get 20% or so more performance than Nvidia sometimes if you have a really slow CPU. (AMD GPUs can be more difficult to get working under weird situations though, and this is definitely weird lol)
I have that same Dell Inspiron 530. It was my first computer for just myself as a kid and what taught me most of my basic computer knowledge that I have today. It's always a treat to see it pop up in random videos so I can have a small trip down memory lane. (Even if you did absolutely mangle it)
On the same kind of note, I’m running an nvidia a2000. Equivalent to a 3050 or 3050ti if they made one. And it’s amazingly small and efficient. Runs completely off power from the pci slot actually. Perfect for office pc upgrades :)
Oooh, i'll have to check if there is a modded bios for my favorite dell 6520 laptop... The chipset officially supports 3rd gen ivy bridge cpu's, but dell being dell limited it to 2nd gen sandy bridge so that you had to buy a newer model, literally a 6530 if i recall. Been years since i looked for a bios.
It would be interesting to see how the system performs with games that run fine on the P4 but at very high resolutions like 4K or more (e.g using DSR) :D
Makes me wonder where AMD have improved their driver overhead. I still remember during DX11 times how much they gained from switching to Mantle and later Vulkan. Like in Doom 2016 where a RX 480 easily gained 25-50% and went from being 25% slower than a GTX 970 to being 15% faster, while nvidia cards gained 5% at best from low level APIs.
The best choice i made recently for my pc was going for the 4070 instead of 4080, after being used to the jet engine that is a 2080 the 4070 is so quiet and runs like a dream
RX 6400 would be a suitable GPU for this one. Sure, probably at least 10x faster than the fastest GPUs of the Pentium 4 era, but a 2020 era gpu with 4GB of vram and 53W TBP is something else.
Seen how much the RX 6400 is held back by PCIe 3? Yeah, this got PCIe 1 Okay, on one hand every modern card would be bottlenecked by a Pentium 4. But from a more realistic perspective (getting a new card for your ancient computer), the user would probably also max out the other parts. So a Core 2 Quad, 8 GB RAM and a decently sized SATA SSD would be in there. And for that the RX 6400 is the wrong card. I would say GT 1030 level performance is the absolute maximum, and even that is stretching it.

I had one of these Dell's with a Q6600 core2quad. I loved this machine. It was actually usable until I built my first gen Ryzen in 2017 (needed an ssd the last few of the years). I always thought it would be cool to put a modern PC inside one of these boxes. I actually still love the aesthetic of them.
Inspiron 560 I would say is the best 1333 FSB 775 Dell motherboard you get. 4 slots of ddr3, and 4 sata ports with the least obstruction to the large GPUs. It also supports the Xeon 771 mod! I used to have one of these, but sold it to a friend for his kid
I have an old Dell Inspiron 530 like the one in the video that I bought with a C2Q Q6600 2.66 GH processor. I spray painted the sides panels and side grill black and cut out fan grills on the top and side. I also screwed an 80mm fan to the front intake area. I still have it and recently took it out to relive old memories. I put in a 92mm Cooler Master tower CPU fan, put in a new PSU and added an 8600 GT in there. May have put in an 8800 GT, can't really remember. I liked the 530 chassis because it was very compact. It was my first try at case modding and the most I've ever done on a case. I reused the Q6600 on another build that I built from the ground up. Good times.
Great. I have a couple of Pemtium 4 in my collection of computers. One was a old IBM business pc board that I used as a very simple windows 2003 server. It never had a issue. The other is in a actual IBM server that used to run a pabx. People criticise the p4 but they did a job and kept working.
Reminds me of using my 780 Ti with a Phenom X4 9600 system some years ago when I waited for my new hardware. Warframe shuttered like hell, but it was held back by the 4 GB of RAM mostly. Its still incredible to see that its all backwards compatible.
I was only just the other day reminiscing about Budget videos and to my surprise this morning here is one. Almost goes back to the days of my first PC although I doubt you'd find a 486 board with a PCI-e slot. I think the technology would be in different eons. Nice to see and hear you again.
Great video! :) 1: Happy to see that the PSU held! I don't have any thoughts than with my Ryzen 3 1200- 8GB single DDR4- Sapphire RX 570 4GB small- 350W Corsair PSU combo, I can even probably upgrade to double the ram and a Ryzen 7 2700X. :D 2: I used to test GPU's in an OC'd (2.27GHz) C2D E6300/2x2GB 800MHz DDR2 MSI board, and surprised me how good it held up in games like Black Mesa, Carmageddon Reincarnation. 3: Great choice of music, I really like it!

Missed your videos! Enjoyed this one 👍
Good times.
He came back to us now, at the turn of the tide!
2:20 He likes big buses and he cannot lie. You budget brothers can't deny!
Glad to have you back
Budget builds lives!!!
Welcome back! Please make more vids, miss watching your stuff!
Nah... I just missed this guy. We need more videos, I hope you will not escape from us again
I was only just the other day reminiscing about Budget videos and to my surprise this morning here is one. Almost goes back to the days of my first PC although I doubt you'd find a 486 board with a PCI-e slot. I think the technology would be in different eons. Nice to see and hear you again.
For that I would look into industrial equpiment. Or Intel Quark. While not 486, but P5 based, they offer PCIe.
God i love these videos. Your voice and the background music is so soothing. Even though i have no idea what you're taking about most of the time
Great video! :)
1: Happy to see that the PSU held! I don't have any thoughts than with my Ryzen 3 1200- 8GB single DDR4- Sapphire RX 570 4GB small- 350W Corsair PSU combo, I can even probably upgrade to double the ram and a Ryzen 7 2700X. :D
2: I used to test GPU's in an OC'd (2.27GHz) C2D E6300/2x2GB 800MHz DDR2 MSI board, and surprised me how good it held up in games like Black Mesa, Carmageddon Reincarnation.
3: Great choice of music, I really like it!
I'm just happy to see you uploaded another video, I've missed you! :3
sorry to hear about your footage. glad to see you doing something anyhow. The build is a bit Frankenstein and i like that lol
I love that you still test Fable TLC no matter what.
