    Both the Xeon W-2200 and 10th gen Core X series are Cascade Lake(-W for Xeon W and -X for Core X) so they are from the same generation and perform the same. For example the W-2295 and i9-10980XE are the same chip but with different features enabled.
    It's almost the same for Xeon W-2100, 7th and 9th gen Core X series which are Skylake(-W for Xeon W and -X for Core X) but they have some TDP and clockspeed differences so the equivalent Xeon W and Core X versions are slightly different from each other when it comes to performance.

    I had super bad experience with consumer level hp pcs, but their Z series are design like tanks. I had my old trusty z640 for about 2 years now, never had an issue once I configured correctly. The best part is that they keep making firmware for it.

      Hp can screw over a dozen customers and the bootlickers will protect them but if they screwed a singke company who buys them in bulk for high amount hp will never get a new order from them.

    Thanks for this review, I recently bought this PC, used, very cheap, fits my very low budget and so far works well, even with only 32gb of RAM and a Quadro P1000 graphics card, runs quickly and quietly all design programs like Blender or Photo Shop

      So far I have no complaints, it is quiet, it feels very well put together, I work in Blender in the modeling area and it works perfectly for this task, I hope it serves your work just as well, it is not a computer for video games, it's for CAD work

    Thanks for the review. When you mentioned that there was a base model with 4 USB-A ports in front, that has answered my question!

    Now adays you can get a z6 g4 for about 450$ make sure to get one that has 2 processors in it when you buy it. Trying to buy the riser and the cable are very pricey. Then just get 2x 4160's and you will have 72 threads. 1000 watt power supply. M.2, the hookups for a video card are already on the power supply. Very convenient way of getting super fast. You can even upgrade to 104 threads but then your putting out about another 200 bucks instead of 100 for the 4160's.

    When buying one of these, make sure to update the BIOS immediately. Some older versions may brick your fine working PC suddenly.

    I see that the side panel has two large metal blocks, the lower one I presume to hold graphics cards in place. But this will obstruct a larger card, such as the rx580 Nitro I'd want to put in it. Is the lower metal block removable?

    I just bought a barebones one of these for 134.99 with free shipping. Crazy cheap deal. Throwing a w-2145 in there and swapping parts out of my z620. This is going to be a 3 fold speed upgrade for almost nothing. I should be able to recoup all of my cost selling my z620. You can't beat the price to performance or the quality of these systems. Now I just gotta get an NVME at some point.

    • @JorgeMoralesAv
      @JorgeMoralesAv  Рік тому

      That is a great deal actually. For sure just by selling the z620 you can get almost your investment back. Amazing Workstation. Thanks for watching and stepping by in the channel.

    Really appreciate this review; I think this is a great alternative to spending a bunch of money to buy a brand new machine or build one.

    • @Superbustr
      @Superbustr Рік тому +1

      Building your own machine would be cheaper than this simply due to HP not offering cheaper components and forcing you to buy expensive components at inflated prices. If your time is worth a lot of money then you wouldn't build your own computer and would buy this prebuilt instead.

    Thank you for review. Do you think it's good idea to upgrade from W-2123 to W-2140b or should I to straight to higher spec models?

    • @JorgeMoralesAv
      @JorgeMoralesAv  2 роки тому +2

      I would not recommend you that upgrade. I would better get the W-2225 if you are ok with 4 cores. Otherwise, the W-2135 may be a better choice for ugprade. Thanks for watching!

    Last time I watched one of your videos you convinced me to buy an HP Z Workstation and I bought the Z600 which I totally upped internally to dual X5675 cpus, 96Gb RAM, 32 Tb video storage, 1TB system drive, 8Tb for stock media, and externally I had another 12 Tb for archival purposes divided into a few usb drives. My ex partner robbed me that system and I'm now deciding between a Z8 G4 or a Z4 G4. Here in Mexico I can get a Z8 for USD$600 and a Z4 for USD$400. I even think about getting both!

    Great video. Thank you! One aspect though; I've currently been looking at buying one of these (used) - in researching, the 'Technical White paper' for this computer shows a block diagram which shows the M.2 slots as being from the CPU rather than the PCH. Slots 2 & 4 (which are the x4 slots) are fed from the PCH. Did you come across documentation that stated the M.2 slots are from the PCH and capped at 2.5?
    Thank again.

    • @mauricehenry9131
      @mauricehenry9131 Рік тому

      @Jorge I need a response on this as well... as the block diagram is saying the M.2 nvme whether i7 or Xeon is coming from the CPU...

    • @sdhharrison7124
      @sdhharrison7124 9 місяців тому

      I agree... in the Z4 G4 technical white paper from HP the "Figure 1. HP Z4 G4 Workstation Block Diagram" shows the bus for the two on-motherboard M.2 sockets on the W workstations coming directly to/from the processor. Same for the one M.2 socket on the Z4 G4 Core version motherboard.
      I have looked for any documentation that your two M.2 sockets have their speed capped at 2.5 Gbps. Please clarify where you got that information from... it will change how I configure my Z4 G4 W workstation bought partially based on your recommendation. Thanks much!

    hello jorge, thank you for this extensive review, but i still have a question i hope you answer it coz hp support page didn't, in the hp product page they wrote "maximum storage capacity is 16tb", and this is weird because i have a 10 years old workstation that run 4*10TB sata hard drives with no problem at all, how a 2019 newer machine can't run 4*10TB drivers with ease, please can you advice or test if i can install multiple 10TB drivers to this machine or not .. hope you have an answer 😁😁..

    Great video,
    I have a question about the noise of the Z4.
    My old Z800 is already quite loud due to the built-in fans, has the Z4 changed and become quieter, or are the fans still clearly audible.
    Many greetings

    BEst review out there! Congratulations on your work and your videos. I just bought a used Z600 and I'm already upgrading it. I'm still saving for a good CPU and I'm deciding between the Quadro P4000, GTX 1080 or RTX 2060 12Gb. I use my machine for content creation, VFX, 3D, vvideo editing, music productin and now im getting into game development as well. What CPU yyou think would be more apropriate for me? Greetings and thanks for sharing these amazing videos!

    The performance to dollar ratio is pretty low with these Z4 computers. If you need the top of the top hardware and cost is of no issue then these computers are great.
    Otherwise getting mid tier components and building your own system will save you a good 50% over one of these towers.
    This is more of a corporate workstation vs a self employed individual workstation.

    One of things about this HP is that it is very picky about accepting video cards. I bought one on a whim due to it being only $600 because it was an i9. But I really regret having purchased it to it not accepting GTX video cards and that some people are having problems with the RTX as well. Anyone having any insight into this workstation about video cards is appreciated.

      this is an LGA 3647 which has xeon workstation/server chips, not i9.. so I'd expect your issue to be something in that genre (like probably trying to put the GPU into a sata port or something)

      There are two models, the basic one, with 465W and the "upgraded" with a 750W Power Supply. Here in Germany at least I only found the 750 W for sale, I never found a model with the lower spec PSU. Thanks for watching again!
