    I’m fully rocking with Beatmaker 3 and I have Auria Pro (besides GarageBand that comes with all iOS devices) which is my first dive into the incredible world of mobile music production and I have recorded and mixed more than 16 full length projects with just Auria Pro in my car in many different locations that I found to be inspiring. I got iMPC Pro 2 to try and get it up and running as a mobile version of my MPC X. I can not express it enough much I really appreciate and love Beatmaker 3 and when paired with Splice and FL Studio 20 on my MacBook Pro it is an unstoppable force for real for real.

      @@MusicTechnologist To me the same. I am no apple user. But I use an iPad for my digital piano. As a cubase user it was cubasis for me and I got it for half the price (that's cheaper than beatMaker). I didn't hear of beatMaker before. Now you have made me curious about beatMaker. There are probably advantages of beatMaker. As cubase user I think that the learing curve is similar on both products. ... and there is an importer for cubasis projects in cubase.

    looks like they fixed some of the things you were complaining about in beatmaker 3 like duplicating and turning effects on and off! Absolutely impressive app, you can even automate parameters in AUv3 plugins, I don't think you can do that in cubasis

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 роки тому +1

      I’m definitely digging the update, and I’m glad they addressed some of the things I brought up! I’m dropping a video about the update soon, but I really like the ability to duplicate tracks, although I haven’t seen where it is possible to automate on/off for effects still. Also, I’m pretty sure the ability to automate parameters of AUv3 plugins in BM3 is a feature we’ve had for a long time. Cubasis 3 will also allow you to record and edit automation of AUv3 plugins, however those parameters don’t exist in the automation editor until you’ve recorded an automation using that plugin.

    • @infektdubstep
      @infektdubstep 3 роки тому +1

      Music Technologist Thanks for the reply! I found the AUv3 automation in Cubasis since I wrote this comment, so that’s awesome. I still love the hands-on approach of beatmaker 3 with the pads a lot, in a way it feels more like something that is meant for touch screens than Cubasis. But yeah I think on/off automation is tricky because that sort of I/O automation would often cause ugly clicking noises and artifacts. Something like a Dry/Wet knob on every effect would probably make more sense, although you would then get phasing issues in some instances

  • @wozowski
    @wozowski 2 роки тому +1

    BeatMaker 3 has a much more touch orientated interface. Cubasis is almost identical to a desktop workflow, if I wanted that I’d produce on desktop machine with the all the advantages that brings. For iPad, BM3 for sure.

    🔥Official🔥 I also believe that BM3 doesn’t crash as much because your iPad has the A12 Chip in it! I just upgraded to the A12 from the A10 model💪🏻! A10 worked good for me, I decided to upgrade because the insurance plan was able to cover it due to a cracked screen I had. But all said and done, Team BM3 is the side I’m on because for me, it works more like hardware, just like an MPC🔥💪🏻🔥!!

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 роки тому

      That’s entirely possible, although I did briefly spend some time using BM3 on a budget iPad with the A10 in it, and it seemed to do well. I suppose, had I used it more, it could have had issues. Never was a hardware guy, but the BM3 workflow is definitely making it hard for me to use anything else, even with some bugs here and there!

    BeatMaker 3 is what I have been using. It’s great, but I begin having those stability issues when I use plug ins. The D1 app caused BM3 to crash like crazy. I also have not figured out how to use outside effects. But, when just using samples and instruments inside of BM3, it is very stable. I am strongly considering using BM3 for production and buying Cubasis 3 for mixing. Thanks for the video!

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 роки тому +1

      100% facts! D1 and BM3 unfortunately do not play well together. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Otherwise, I agree, BM3 is generally pretty stable. I recently experimented with mixing vocals in Cubasis 3 and was surprised that my session crashed more than once. Idk, I know that iOS music production is fairly new, and I think it’ll take some time to really iron out the kinks, but I’m pretty amazed by how far it’s come already!

      Hey Viliami! Not sure what audiopaste is, but if you have audio files, they can be imported into BM3 pretty easily! In what way do you mean as far as compatibility with iMPC? Are you wanting to open up iMPC as an AUv3 plugin in BM3? If so, as long as iMPC supports AUv3, you should be able to load it up in BM3 just fine.

      Music Technologist I’m pretty new at this. I tried mixing another track but changed the meter to RMS it sounds good (to me) now but when I change back to peak I’m all the way up in the red. Doesn’t sound distorted though 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  4 роки тому +2

      No worries. I would keep your meters set to peak, as that just changes the standard it uses to measure volume. Kinda like inches vs centimeters, but in audio. That setting won't have any effect on sound quality. I would hit the settings gear, the second icon down on the left side, and change your output sample rate to 48000 Hz, and change your recordings bit depth to 24-bits. Also, in the "Settings & Behaviors" tab, set your audio previews volume to 0.0dB. Hopefully that helps!

    At 5:26 you showed there's a Wet and Dry option for your Reverb effect. Can you use that to make it "Dry/Wet" and effectively turn the effect off/on like you were wanting to do?

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  2 роки тому +1

      Technically yes, but once I automate the knob from dry to wet, there will be a tail from any previous audio that bleeds into the spot that I actually want reverb at, since the reverb has actually been on the whole time, just dry. Hopefully that makes sense. That’s just one example. Not all effects have wet/dry, and manually mapping the exact parameter back and forth is actually harder than just mapping on/off.

    Hello.
    There is a way to side chain in cubasis 3.
    However, you may need and audio unit plug-in that is capable or that has a side chain feature.

      @@MusicTechnologist I use an app called Fabfilter Pro C2 a compressor that works well with Cubasis 3.
      1. In Cubasis 3, first create a group track.
      2. Select the tracks you want, that will trigger the side chain feature.
      3. Before putting the compressor on the group tracks, you first must independently insert the compressor on your individual tracks. You must also insert the built in EQ on the kick drum track which will help trigger the side chain feature.
      4. Use this compressor as an insert effect.

      Out of the 2, BeatMaker 3 is definitely better for live sets than Cubasis 3, since it has a "Scenes mode" which allows you to trigger set of patterns. The Flip app is a much simpler app, but it's good for live stuff too! I did a video on it recently ➡️ ua-cam.com/video/DrEld9AA_JA/v-deo.html. I don't have a lot of recommendations since I don't do a lot of live performance. Hopefully this helped some!

    3-5 years ago, I would have laughed anyone out of the room who claimed to be a Producer and then busted out a mobile ARM device.

    I'm a Windows and Android guy, and even I admit: Android is about 5-7 years behind iOS in terms of Audio Engineering capabilities. @MusicTechnologist  3 роки тому

      Great question! Garageband is actually really great! It functions very well and has a lot of really good built in instruments with very creative ways to play them. The major downsides are that there’s no dedicated mixer panel and there’s no way to add auv3 effects plugins to your tracks. Also, the built-in effects are not very powerful. It is a great app for people who want to learn, and I’m sure great music can be made in it!

      @@MusicTechnologist Garageband allows you to add 4 individual AUv3 effects to each track (chcked on my iPad Pro 2017), for each track different effects can be used. I think the chosen AUv3 effect works no worse in Garageband than in any other DAW. However, in Garageband there is no automation (as is eg. in Cubasis 3), so if you export the whole song to WAV, the effect works from beginning to end, you cannot set its parameters or on/off at some point. Unfortunately I doubt Apple will ever add automation to the Garageband - it would be a game changer for me.

    BM3 runs circles around Cubasis. It's unique no matter what platform you compare it to. Cubasis is a very basic DAW that you find much better alternatives on PC/Mac.
