People tend to understimate what Michael did during his music carreer. It was simply unprecedented. There is a lot of talk about the Beatles numbers, but Michael is a monster when It comes to success. Everything he did was record breaking. No one has matched his numbers and probably no one ever will.

Financial Analyst here…Mr. Jackson was not broke, ever. He had over a BILLION dollars in assets and the cash flow he had was mismanaged by others. Mr. Jackson refused to sell any of his assets to get cash. He had other assets outside of music. His overall financial portfolio was VERY well diversified including fine art, stocks, automobiles, etc. All that “stuff” he had in Neverland was purely financial, those were one of the one of a kind collectible items, many of which were worth thousands of dollars. He played dumb but almost everything he bought he knew would appreciate in value. The THIS IS IT tour would have eliminated his debt in just one show and he knew this. For a multibillionaire, $400M is nothing. That’s like a person who makes $100K being $4K in debt. Michael was NEVER broke, his issue was the mismanagement of his cash flow and honestly he should have taken full control and not trusted others. But his estate is fine today and that’s all that matters.

    • @thewall283
      @thewall283 Рік тому +63

According to Emmilane White who worked at Epic in the 70s-80s, the estate earns about $79 million dollars a year. So I'd agree with you the estate is just fine and I'm happy about that, that his children don't have to worry about being taken care of financially. Of course they're all thriving on their own as well and I like Paris' music, so his kids are doing great and I know he'd be very proud of them.

I saw MJ live 2x during the Moonwalker Tour and I will never forget what the experience was like. Micheal was also the most generous of Pop Stars which many of his friend warned people would take advantage of him and cause him pain. We all know the pain which he went through during his Presley wife days. I have a family member who is like MJ, very gentle, soft spoken, loves to laugh but will make other people feel weird because he is so calm.. for me, I love his demeaner while the media made him to look like a weirdo. I am so glad I never assigned myself to fake news and hype because MJ changed the world and wanted to change the world.. you can hear it all in his sounds - sung from his heart. In the world of Logic and Reality... he was a good man that did good things and only wanted to do so.. he was also a Godly man that loved the Lord and spoke often on this...He is gone to soon.

Poor Michael, for someone with THAT much power and wealth everyone wants to be your friend. He was just too naive to see the bad intentions in some folks. He only focused on the good aspects. That is a plus and minus when it comes to money. It is very hard for artists to make money off of music alone due to the popularity of streaming. Albums could sell for 15$, and hundreds of thousands could sell in the first week. Thousands of streams are needed to make a single dollar, and most people will listen to music once or twice, fans will listen more then that.

Michael and his brothers but mostly Michael alone are the biggest dinasty in music, entertainment, show business ever. What Michael created is a legacy of record breaking hits. He could be making hits today...It breaks my heart what has happened with his figure and image. Regardless of all his charitative donations there was always someone trying to bring him down. Genius as a musician. The best ever.
But with money. The man was very bad. Also wait giving authority to financial advisers to do what they want. When all he had to say was don't let any deal.go through unless you have my consent. The law was on his side here. He wouldn't go attend the meetings. Then he stopped working. And just leveraged out his assets to get money and not pay it back. The man caused it on himself. Didn't t accept the reality of less income coming in and he would have to downsize. Which he did after the trial..but only caaue he was close to tapping out and had no choice. No other celeb have got themselves in 4 or 500m debt. And they have financial advisers working for them as well and lawyers. Mj was just settle Amy lawsuit just cause he didn't wanna go to court. Just lazy there. But the man stopped working after 1997. With income of 10 to 20m a year. If he accepted reality and downsized then. And stopped his spending habits. And took control of his bank accounts. He would have been fine. The problem was he just didn't want to. 4 to 500m in debt. No wonder the man had sleeping problems.

He was a genius with his money…he went in debt bc of his court cases & losing partnerships & ppl not supporting his music like they once did. The money he had left he tried to invest to get all that money back to be able to afford to pay off his debt. In the grand scheme of things he did nothing wrong with his money. His whole career as an adult he invested large amounts of money to make triple of that back. Just towards the end of his life his luck ran out with investing, More ppl kept making cases & Ppl stopped supporting his music which led to him not being able to pay back companies & His “friends” & Loans from banks & being in debt

The problem was he turned the financial advisors away. They were trying to help him. But mj wouldn't speak to them. As the advice they had is nit what mj wanted to hear. He had to downsize. He had to move out from neverland. He had to stop huge spending habits. He wouldn't. Would be OK. If he was releasing music and touring and going award shows. But after 1997. He basically stopped working. And the catalogue income. Was amazing. Between 10 and 20m a year. He could have lived comfy. If he had jsur accepted reality. Other celebs have downsized. Cut on spending. But mj. Nope I'm gonna keep borrowing loans of banks. Just spend it and not pay them back. He was lucky the billionaire bailee him out of foreclosure of neverland. Otherwise it was gone. His also lucky his share in the catalogue wasn't gone. Although that would have been inevitable had he stayed alive. The fact that bank of America were holding on to his assets. Just showed he was close to losing them.

Not sure about that. John Branca was there in the first deal in 1984 when he bought the catalog which included beatles and others… and he is still there in the administration of his trust. Was he not involved in between? I think he always had him as a legal advisor.
I am puzzled… Was it maybe more difficult to repay his debt when he was still alive as he should perform and promote while he had his legal battles and his health was failing him? But why the debt restructuring never happened, or why they didn’t liquidate assets that he didn’t care so much about (obviously not the catalog or his music rights).. And why John Branca still sold his catalog rights, after the debt has been fully repaid and he was still earning money posthumous? What was the need for that ? And for a price which is even lower than 10 annual earnings of this catalog?
I cannot connect the pieces. I am missing something

@@crimcrusader8459 yes you are right. I have done a bit more digging after the above comment. I realized that he was led to mis-trust Branca and fire him as others were trying to get into his team and take advantage of him. Branca was an obstacle because he was helping him.
I also think that selling the catalog in 2016 was the right time before McCartney claimed his rights as per US law.
I have read somewhere that David Geffen was implicated with the first time MJ replaced his team in early’90s and maybe also later in early ‘00s behind the scenes. Apparently there were a lot going on, linking the allegations, the absurd media coverage, tricky financial deals and people earning his trust and misusing it. Very complex. Not sure what is true or not.
One think I know is that he was too strong to take down. And even though now he is dead, his legacy, his spirit and his message for unity and love will live forever.

However, evidence suggests that he was in severe financial crisis and that THIS IS IT was created solely to ease some of the burden. Claiming that he was "NEVER" broke implies that you had access to his financial records and can confirm it. It's simply an instance of die-hard fans refusing to accept anything negative about him.

Forbes says that MJ has earned 1.1 billion (over 2 billion when adjusting for inflation) during his solo career. Hard to imagine that this man had hundred of millions of debts in his last years. If only he had saved half of his annual income and investing it in conservative stocks, he easily could have been a multi-billionaire.

Michael buying the Beatles catalogue was a tip given to him by Paul McCartney. McCartney told Michael during the period in the early 1980s when they both were recording together it was a good way of investing, to buy the rights of records. To which Michael promptly bought all the rights to the Beatles song which pissed off Paul McCartney and they never worked together again.

You are joking I hope. Those useless attorneys handed his 50% share of the SONY/ATV catalog back to Sony for a meagre $975 million. Its TRUE VALUE to MJ was more like 23 BILLION. The TRUE value of that catalog is now north of $50 billion. Yes that's right. MJ would never have sold that back to Sony for less than $20 billion. He was by far the wealthiest singer to ever live at the time of his death. He would be worth even more today had he handled his affairs better. And stayed alive. The likes of Oprah, Jordon and West. Don't come close...

Throughout his lifetime, Michael donated significant amounts to a vast number of charitable organizations.
left a lasting legacy as a prolific philanthropist and humanitarian. Throughout Jackson's public life, he dedicated himself to various humanitarian causes, particularly in areas regarding poverty, disease, welfare, and disadvantaged youth.

I am still puzzled why his estate sold his shares of the sony/atv music catalog even after having fully repaid the debt and kept earning from other sources related to his music…
if the royalties on this catalog was earning them $80million per year, it sounds like a price of $750m was actually low… It doesn’t make sense.
Do you have any sources to do a video on that?

He was spending hundreds of millions of dollars a year.. if only he bought Apple stock in 2003 as one of his shopping sprees, it would be worth tens of billions today!
I am goddamn sure, Michael Jackson had all the resources, if he made right investments(be it crypto, stocks, MCU), he would've easily been one of the richest persons in the world by now. And most definitely he would've spent a major chunk in his charity Heal the World

Back in the golden age of 1984, when I was a sprightly 25-year-old, I was earning my keep at Atari, pulling in a cool 25k a year (that’s a whopping 51k in today’s money!). And guess what? I bumped into none other than the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson!
Then, I switched lanes to Worlds of Wonder, where I was raking in 30k annually (or about 70k in today’s terms). And who should I meet but the Purple One, Prince, and his band!
Looking back, I realize that while I was making what seemed like peanuts (even after adjusting for inflation), these guys were swimming in their mega riches. But here’s the kicker - I’m still around, kicking it and living life, while they’ve left the stage.
So, I guess the joke’s on them - I may not have been making ‘Jack Squat’, but I’m still worth it! Now, that’s something to be thankful for, isn’t it? 😄

King of pop really sounds degrading of a title for this man,his success resembles that of the donald trumps of the world,he didn't need to actually begin a business, instead, he was the business, the valuable commodity, his brand was or is more of a cooperation, yet he was indeed just an artist.
Major financial institutions, popular vips like the Saudis or sheikh, solid fan base, magazines, tours, etc For this lot to continue investing in a private individual, come rain come sunlight really puts me at awe for the man,may is soul rest in peace

This deep dive into his finances had me I intrigued until we were asked, If Michael Jackson was worth more dead or alive? In terms of anything YES he was worth more alive! He had children, a mother, a family, and fans that loved him dearly. Had this tour gone on the talk of his finance would be a thing of past thoughts. He would have made an unexplainable fortune from this tour. The man DIED trying to insure a good life for his children. He gave a lot only for a group of greedy people to slowly destroy him. (He had gotten a little greedy himself), but none the less he was worth more alive with no if and or butts about it
