Jefferson Takahashi You don't have to put any miles on the bike before changing intake and exhaust, so if you want to make those changes, feel free to do it as soon as you want! :D -DrewZilla
I've had 2 Harleys since I've been riding motorcycles. A 2003 XL883C Sportster, and a 2006 FXSTDI Softail Deuce EFI ( my current bike ). The Sporty had V&H Short Shots on them, and the Deuce has V&H Big Shots. Both of them look and sound amazing! Admittedly, I was never crazy about the styling of the shorties. I just prefer the look of a longer pipe, for some reason. The Biggies on my Deuce, though, are absolutely perfect! And I love the slash-cut ends! They look good, they sound good, and I can pass a semi like it's standing still, if need be! Regardless of personal taste in styling ( which V&H readily accommodates well ), I've never had a problem with either product, and I'm officially a proud customer for life. \m/
lol i just switched from metric mechanic to harley mechanic and i have yet to install a set of exhaust that sit perfectly but vance and hines has gotten it the best.
If you install pipes on a Harley that do NOT have a cross over pipe you will lose low end torque. I put longshots on my Wide glide and I killed the engine the first time I rode it. There was maybe half the torque below 1000 rpm. There WAS a lot more power above 3000 rpm but hell, I don't usually need 3000. I took them off and put the factory pipes back on with some mufflers I bought at a bike parts meet. I should add, the quality of the pipes was excellent, no complaints there, just make sure you have a crossover or crank the hell out of it at every red light.
Would like to see install vid, i know its not roxket science, but seen a few doods have to open them up to take a few layers of fglass off and wrap up again with shrink wrap so they fit...seems a bit much messing about for a supposed slide in...thanks
I just installed the Vance & Hines 3" slip ons to my '98 FXDWG 80 inch EVO, that is bone stock (with the exception of a K&N air filter, maintaining the stock air cleaner cover). The stock mufflers made the machine sound like a sewing machine, but the V&H slip ons made it sound just like a Harley should! Just a couple questions: With the slip ons plus the K&N, should I go up one jet size? Also, should I adjust the idle mixture screw to make it little more rich? (The previous owner already removed the plug that blocks the adjustment screw) Great product reviews fellas!
It's a trial and error process, and you should be careful with the changes, but making those changes could help if adjusted correctly. You can always go back your current setting. -DrewZilla
A word of Caution: I just bought a brand new 2018 Road Glide Special. The dealership installed Vance & Hines Intimidator 400 slip ons for me (their recommendation). I noticed that the left side endcap didn't fit flush (shown in pictures 2 & 3). The correct fit is shown in the first picture. It was clearly a manufacturer defect. I don't expect a product to be 100%, 100% of the time. Althought this demonstrates an issue with their quality control program, I was fine so long as they ethically stood behind their product and replaced the defective one. FAIL!! Vance and Hines took the position that, as per their warrently (on a three week old defective part) the only thing they were willing to do was try to "fix" it at the dealership. If this was unsuccessful, they wanted THIS part returned to the factory to be "repaired" there. NO loaner, no replacement. So for a brand new part, I'm looking at a trip back to the dealership and potentially having an unridable bike for however long they might take to "fix" it!?! Vance and Hines proved, (a) they have little to know respect for my time, (b) they have little to no interest in my satisfaction, and (c) they have no ethical interest in standing by their product. If you're looking for aftermarket parts, I'd HIGHLY recommend you pass Vance and Hines by. I'm certain many have had been satisfied with their products but I believe a company is best measured by how they manage their failings than how they manage their successes. #vanceandhinesqualtiy #vanceandhines Vance & Hines
Does anyone know in this channel if "YOU HAVE TO" run V&H pipes with fuelpak fp3 fuel management? Put a RSD intake on 2007 nightster and running super lean. Didnt want to have to buy pipes yet... I was thinking of just selecting a similar V and H pipe to stock pipe during setup prior to map? Any ideas? Anyone?
That softail with that Vance and Hine in the beginning in the video is really freaking loud in real life. It is deafening if you don't wear ear plugs, even for just a 30 minute ride. It vibrates my upper body. My Freedom declaration turn-outs are a little less loud and it is disrupting my ride enjoyment. I am thinking of longer pipes, 2 into 1, larger diameter tails. Too loud is not fun at all.
Angel Bowfinger One can do that, just that a battle usually changes the sound of the original loud pipe design very much, from tone to a lot of time a bit too quiet. I just want to say that pipes are very personal. You want to pick a good looking pipe yet has to sound good.
golferchin76 Oh, believe me, they make a WIDE range of baffles, that fit whatever you're looking to achieve. Even a few that only reduce the noise very slightly, so that you still get all the rumble....just not the hearing damage. Admittedly, finding them is the real challenge. But trust me, they're out there.
I live in massachusetts, and just bought a 2015 softail slim. The dealer still has my bike till spring. I'm having vance & hines big radius put on. But I've recently come to believe they might not be legal. How is this possible, if the dealer itself is putting them on? Doesn't the dealer also inspect and give the sticker for the bike? Then how could it be illegal, if it passes inspection?
+Jim Morrison We cannot guarantee legality for your jurisdiction, so we recommend you speak with your dealer about it, since they'd be installing and/or inspecting it. -DrewZilla

It all depends on whether you just want to install slip-ons (no tuning required) or a full system exhaust (fuel tuning required, e.g. with a V&H Fuelpak FP3). If you just want a different look and some more sound, I'd go with either the Twin Slash or Eliminator Slip-Ons from V&H. I've installed long tube headers to my camaro and it made it run rich. Shouldn't that do the same to a harley? i know bigger intake will make it run lean.

+kcb55 From V&H, it's just the Short Shots. There are options from other brands, though. Feel free to use our shop-by-bike feature on our site. -DrewZilla
These are all the V&H Dyna exhausts that will fit (rvz.la/1UvKO6X). If you have passenger pegs, though, some of the exhausts (Super Radius and Grenades) require removing the passenger pegs. Also, the Competition 2-into-1 does not work with saddlebags. Otherwise, you should be fine. If you install slip-ons, you likely do not need to change your fueling. If you install a full exhaust, you will need to change your fueling with a reflash or a fuel controller such as the Vance & Hines FuelPak FP3 (www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2016). -DrewZilla
No word yet from V&H, but they're a really popular option, so we do expect them to get to them at some point. Perhaps once the M8 makes its way into the Softail (or whatever modular frame system they're rumored to be developing). -DrewZilla
If just removing the baffles, you probably don't need to rejet. Hopefully the bike was tuned/rejetted when the Shortshots were initially installed though. If you haven't been running lean, then you should be ok. -DrewZilla
RevZilla I have been on the phone with them and they sell the heat shields for the new pro pipe but not the older one They tell me the there is a diff between the years Very expensive 350.for the two shields
If you like the look and the sound, then yes, it's recommended. However, since it replaces the stock headers, you will also need a fuel tuner. If you don't have the budget for that, then consider just getting a slip-on exhaust. That would keep the stock headers. -DrewZilla
Neither is better or louder, as they both have similar sound and performance. I recommend you choose whichever you think looks better to you. -DrewZilla
I've got the Short Shots on my Dyna Super Glide, and although the performance is outstanding, they're loud as hell!! When I'm starting off at a red light in traffic, I can see people scurrying to get away from me as quickly as possible!!! But at least they know I'm there.
I would imagine it's because there's more of a process to making them. When everything you do is chrome, there's no extra cost to factor in. But when you add an extra step or 2 in a process, the price will reflect that. Also, the material involved is probably more expensive, and they wouldn't buy it in nearly as much bulk as they would chrome.
It's unlikely that your shields will blue out, because they won't get as hot as the pipe will. Noting the gap between the pipe and the shield, which allows some heat to dissipate away before even reaching the shield, resulting in a lower temperature on the shield, because less heat reaches it. Also, that gap allows air to flow in between the pipe and shield while in motion ( which is when the pipes will likely get the hottest, due to higher RPMs ), which allows that heat to be flushed out through that gap. Similar in essence, to the Harley's "air cooled" engine. As long as you're moving, the air around you will keep it cooler. But even at a standstill, unless your pipes are running DANGEROUSLY hot, the shields shouldn't be subject to the temperatures needed to blue them out. But even so, I would recommend not touching the shields for some time after the engine has been shut off, and ALWAYS wear long pants ( preferably denim or leather ), and at least half-calf boots. Because even if they're not hot enough to blue out, or give you a nasty 3rd degree burn, they ARE hot enough to still hurt pretty badly, against bare skin. That's a lesson you don't learn twice.
+nafism6969 If you're referring to the Shortshots, they do include baffles, so they're quieter than straight drag pipes but definitely louder than the stock exhaust. -DrewZilla
Easiest most knowledgeable guy to listen and learn from. Thanks.

Can you do a comparison between shortshots and backdraft exhaust.??

So, softails and dynas V&N exhaust and heats shields are interchangeable? Will the heat shields off a softail fit my dyna fxdb?

Hi, I need to replace my 2012 FXD Dyna Super Glide exhausts. Will any V&H Dyna exhaust fit? what should I look out for?
-DrewZilla
when installing a full exhaust is it common for the exhaust studs to snap?

No word yet from V&H, but they're a really popular option, so we do expect them to get to them at some point. Perhaps once the M8 makes its way into the Softail (or whatever modular frame system they're rumored to be developing). -DrewZilla
I've got. 2000 Dyna with short shots. If I take out the baffles would the carbie need rejetting? Cheers
If just removing the baffles, you probably don't need to rejet. Hopefully the bike was tuned/rejetted when the Shortshots were initially installed though. If you haven't been running lean, then you should be ok. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla cheers for that, there's a fair bit of black soot in the pipe so I'm assuming she's been running too rich
Sure thing!
I have a V and H 2 into one Pro pipe Bright Chrome everywhere except the heat shields. Why doesn't V and H offer just the heat shields?
They don't offer them to us, but you might be able to get them directly from Vance & Hines. -DrewZilla

RevZilla I have been on the phone with them and they sell the heat shields for the new pro pipe but not the older one
They tell me the there is a diff between the years
Very expensive 350.for the two shields
do you recommend Vance & Hines Exhausts - Shortshots Staggered - Softail? Is it worth it!
If you like the look and the sound, then yes, it's recommended. However, since it replaces the stock headers, you will also need a fuel tuner. If you don't have the budget for that, then consider just getting a slip-on exhaust. That would keep the stock headers. -DrewZilla
So i want to buy the short shots for my 2017 street bob which fuel pack should i get for it?
You'll want the FP3 linked below. -DrewZilla

Plz which is better and louder big radius or short shots for softail slim
Neither is better or louder, as they both have similar sound and performance. I recommend you choose whichever you think looks better to you. -DrewZilla
I've got the Short Shots on my Dyna Super Glide, and although the performance is outstanding, they're loud as hell!! When I'm starting off at a red light in traffic, I can see people scurrying to get away from me as quickly as possible!!! But at least they know I'm there.
Is the exhaust mount the same for a dyna and softail slim?
No, they aren't the same. -DrewZilla
Hey revzil I own street 750. Is it possible to fit those shots shots exhaust into my bike? Please reply asap. Thank you.
No, you cannot fit Shortshots on the Street 750. -DrewZilla
+RevZilla thanks bro.
So even if the heat shields themselves are chrome, they won't turn blue/discolored?
+dandylion18 Unless your engine is running extra lean/hot, the chrome heat shields should not blue. -DrewZilla
+RevZilla Can you explain why the black heat shields cost $100. more than the chrome? Thanks!
That's a lesson you don't learn twice.
these have no mufflers do they? is that why they sound so loud??
+nafism6969 If you're referring to the Shortshots, they do include baffles, so they're quieter than straight drag pipes but definitely louder than the stock exhaust. -DrewZilla
Do you know if an '09 Dyna V&H system will fit a '14 Street Bob?
I was looking at the Big Radius 2:2, it was actually a '07 now that i'm looking at it. I don't think it'll fit a '14Street Bob would it?
it's coming off of an '07' Street Bob,and i'm trying to put it on a '14 street bob.
can you put a vace hines exhaust on a barako 175 cc motor cycle let me know thank
You cannot. Unfortunately, they don't make exhausts to fit your bike. -DrewZilla
OK THANK BRO
I prefer Freedom exhausts have a better note
Vance and hines makes me think of ketchup
Love my shorties
Whats the loudest pipe????
i like the longer looking pipes been looking at bassani 2into1 roadrage or the vance an hines big shots also like reinhart
Rinehart is probably the loudest, and all their pipes are loud. -DrewZilla
In the bassani video lemmy says that the road rage is the loudest exhaust that is still muffled
