    He called Yesterday a "Beatles" tune and it cheered him up. I love that.

    Wow, he seems so warm and personable here. Keep in mind this was during his separation from Yoko. I lot of people in a lot of books say he was a different person during this period, that it wasn't as 'lost' or traumatic as he later said it was. Miss him.

      I've read that this was his 'Lost Weekend' period...sure seems together and happy to me...can't imagine (lol) why, was a millionaire, on a break from his wife for a while, barely into his mid-30s, ANYTHING he wanted was easily bought and brought to him...this period would have been IDEAL to reunite with the other members...Paul's solo stuff sucked a$$ compared to the Beatles and John knew it...if only...

    John sounded sincere when he said that hearing the song Yesterday cheered him up when he came to the game. It's still a Lennon- McCartney tune, even if Paul composed it. It seemed like it was the first football game he had ever been to, an unfamiliar environment to him, so hearing the tune probably made him feel at home.

    "OK, Giffer, over to Giffer, bye bye..."
    Perhaps the greatest farewell in Monday Night Football history, and only topped by his statement on football: "...it's an amazing sight, makes rock concert look like tea parties." IF THAT doesn't endeer you...
    I sincerely hope Mr. Lennon got to see many more games and learn the rules of football before his tragic demise...hopefully he threw a football--and with Lennon, every throw would've been spiralling through the sky (with Diamonds!) ;)
    RIP

    I regard Lennon's murder as the greatest individual tragedy in modern history. He really was just reaching the prime of his life, and I believe he still had some of his greatest music to write. And were it not for that nameless piece of shit who stole his life, I believe The Beatles would have reunited and recorded and toured again, probably sometime in the 90's. It would have been the greatest thing in entertainment history, and would have made the Eagles reunion look insignificant.

    Lennon had won his battle with the Nixon administration over being allowed to remain in the country (Nixon had resigned earlier that summer). He loved New York, and was tremendously happy to be permitted to continue to live there. The album was "Walls and Bridges", which contained the hit single "Whatever Gets You Through The Night". By then, it seemed John's ill will towards his former bandmates had pretty much passed. His relationship problems with wife Yoko were over, too; son Sean was born the following year.

    I believe this is the same night Lennon met Ronald Reagan (The Gipper). Lennon's personal assistant from 79-80 said that Lennon met Reagan at a sporting event and had a really good time together. He also said that if Lennon was a citizen he would have voted for Reagan for President in 1980. How cool is that? He was finally maturing as he reached 40 years old.

      ***** Lennon was against everything Reagan was about. He was just being friendly. Reagan raged class warfare against the country. He destroyed the middle class, and turned what once was a country of unity, into a country of greed. John Lennon would never have voted for Reagan. Those reports were all exaggerated. It was the damn Republican Party that tried to deport Lennon in the first place, until Carter came into office. Don't be naive.

    well unfortunately it's in our constitution under the 2nd ammendment which allows our citizens the right to bear arms and at the time it seemed like a logical idea since there were concerns about (ironically) the British coming back to re-invade. Along with the having the ability to protect themselves from renegade Indians and wild animals. keep in mind the country at that time was a vast wilderness who knows what... Personally, I'd like to see that ammendment abolished or re-written (continued

    there was a good chance they would have got together in the 80's...at the time of lennons death mccartney had disbanded wings and his release in 80 Mccartney II was a dud ...john's album double fantasy probably would have only been a moderate success if not for his death...and with the emerging video and cd market starting in the 80's the opportunities for success were there...probably not as "the beatles" per se but perhaps something like a supergroup name like "the travelling wilbury's" did

  • @JamesTKirkCobain
    @JamesTKirkCobain 14 років тому

    People forget the reason he did this appearance was because nobody was buying his albums bck then. All the way up right to Double Fantasy his career was pretty much shot, he couldn`t even get a record deal. He didn`t record safe songs like Paul McCartney. And people who bash Yoko, Lennon was pretty much broke when he met her. Apple has destroyed him financially and she was the one who invested what little money he had and made him a millionaire.

  • @obiwanobiwan13
    @obiwanobiwan13 14 років тому

    I myself might be shot for saying this... but perhaps its for the best that the Beatles never reunited. Don't get me wrong, it would have been GREAT... but think about it- you think of the Beatles, you instantly think of the 1960s. They ARE the Sixties, and still transcend it, so powerful... maybe that specialness would be lost if they reunited, they'd be the Stones- a great band, but not LEGENDS (they had the perfect beginning and ending in their story already, how do you top that?)

  • @alfriendo2008
    @alfriendo2008 15 років тому

    I personally think "The Beatles" would have got back together if Chapman had not shot Lennon dead.
    Relations with McCartney had improved, John was hoping to tour the UK to promote his album "Double Fantasy". And he may have hooked up with Paul for a session or two at Abbey road just for old times sake.
    Of course this is all conjecture but one thing is for sure when Chapman shot Lennon one of the 20th Century's most tantalising prospects-a reunion of the Beatles-was laid to rest.
    R.I.P.

  • @phila3884
    @phila3884 13 років тому

    Would the Beatles have ever reunited?.. I think probably not. Remember, it was not just Lennon and McCartney, but Starr and Harrison. I think Harrison would've said "what's the point?" Only unless all four thought there was something musically significant that they could accomplish, I don't think it would've happened. Definitely NOT for nostalgia's sake, or because everyone wanted them to.

    @richmjr67 I'm guessing the Dec 9 game at the LA Coliseum. The Nov 4 game was at Candlestick in SF. 1974 would have been while John and Yoko were seperated, he was spending time with May Pang in LA. Also Ringo's album that he references ( Goodnight Vienna) was released on Nov 15 1974, so it would have been out on Dec 9, but not Nov 4. over to the Giffer, bye bye.

    Anything I've read indicates John kinda pulled the band apart at the end, as he was fairly insecure even with all their success. Paul refused to sign with that new manager Allen Klein. The other 3 all later admitted that signing with him had been a huge mistake. Hardly matters now. Things happened just as they were meant to & they went out at the top of their art.

    it's pretty easy. one team has the ball and has 4 chances to gain at least 10 yards. if they gain 10 yards, it starts over. they want to get the ball behind the 0 yard line or the goal line. if they don't make the 10 yards, they have to give the ball to the other team. that's it.

    McCartney made the point that the Beatles would have gotten back together, to at least record a few tracks on the Anthology DVD set. It probably would have happened in the mid to late 80's if he had not been killed.

    and who is 'they'? I"m speaking of Lennon and he is singular. You did learn grammar in school, right? I know they don't teach Science anymore but they did teach English back then.

    totally agree. "Bono has been trying so hard to be the John Lennon of our times..Gallagher and Bono combined have only a fraction of the wit and talent John had"

    "You never know". For 10 years many of us hoped it would happen. I personally thought it was a matter of time.

    Football is one thing (Best sport on earth) and Northamerican disgusting football is another thing. Don't call the latter just "football". It's a total lack of respect.

    Just the same, a rugby player wouldn't last 10 minutes in a football game... They're quite different sports, you see. And what a coincidence, I'm American too!!

    During this game John sat and had a conversation with----wait for it------Ronald Reagan. Supposedly they got along and had a good conversation.

    Is this the same John that wrote "How Do You Sleep?"...he actually complimented "Yesterday"? I thought he thought that song was crap?

    See? Breitbart says Lennon was a repuglican. Why? Because John used the word "TEAPARTY" at 0:24 in this video. Breitbart says that's proof!

    Not talking music or politics, just talking about a sporting event and having a good time. A side of him we didn't get to see enough of.

    Apparently also in the wings that night was Ronald Reagan and he and Lennon had a very pleasant and jovial discussion off camera.

    @prrolg I think he is talking about Frank Gifford the former football star turned announcer. He was on as an announcer for years.
