  • I'm really enjoying this project. The rear legs are very complex but like anything, if you break it down step by step its very straight forward :)

    Hey Joe, back from my hols (17 years since I saw waves and sand lol). Separation of legs is a tricky business indeed...
    Ahem..anyway, for vibration the best thing I have found is a flat bed sander - not a random orbital, the cheap 1/3 sheet jobs. Great for concrete when doing shuttering too, it'll save you messing up the grip on your chuck bud. If you have space to waste, you could shove a bolt in and set a low torque on your drill with a socket driver installed and let it vibrate that way, but it will also wear the drill over prolonged use.
    I know it's a pain in the arse to swap over all the time, but possibly invest in a more aggressive band for your saw too (Axminster). Seeing as you are finishing off with a router for some stages, the wider radius of a more substantial blade wouldn't be too much of a hindrance but would let you rip a bit more efficiently...?
    Am enjoying watching your progress man, it's like clickspring, same pacing too, a million years between episodes lol. Only kidding mate, I know how hard it is to time manage for ya.
    Glad to be home and hope to see more from ya soon.

    I applaud you for taking on a such a project. I'm still a novice when it comes to woodworking. My concern is how close the table saw came to the clamp. But as John Heinz states "as long as your comfortable with it." Then more power to ya. I think it will look cool with all the curves. Looking forward to the finished project.
    Not trying to troll or anything. I know how nerve racking kick back can be. It's happened to me already.

    hey, i just finished my two rear legs this evening... I'm using a very underpowered 7-1/2 in bandsaw. I had sharpened my bandsaw blade just before the build and have not had any issues since. It's more than adequate. I got through my 2 in of walnut to separate the legs in about 5 min. I suggest you give sharpening a try, or get a new blade. It will make your project less stressful and more enjoyable. Keep up the good work!

    • @AverageJoesJoinery
      @AverageJoesJoinery  7 років тому

      Thank you! This was a reletively new blade, probably used twice before this. It may have just been a bad blade because it is quite cheap haha

    fine job Joe.
    What HP is your band saw? Year ago i had a 3/4 band saw and even with a new blade most hardwoods like white oak, walnut and cherry would bog down on thicker 8/4 material. you will find a 1.5 and up HP motor makes a world of difference on a well setup band saw. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing, i love all the Maloof chairs.

    • @AverageJoesJoinery
      @AverageJoesJoinery  7 років тому
