Great fun there Gary and nice fish,my son fished the same tide at Isle of Whithorn in s/w Scotland but nae Mackerel showing, only caught 2 wee pollock,Ally
Aye Gary we went on there today and got 15 between my arm was killing me we started at the end casting south but loads of ppl came on and plonked there stuff right next to us so we buggered off to the 44 mark and got another two mackerel all in all a good days fishing dont think they liked us catching all that fish since we are from Newcastle lol but hey all good fun in the end lol
Hi Gary just wondering if it is possible to catch them a bit closer in like at the fish quay in North Shields or the walkway because I have heard of people getting them there but never got one myself?
Hi Joel, I have caught them from the walkway before but only when they were in fully. I'm not sure about the north shields side because i haven't fished that side of the river for them.
Can anyone tell me if the gates are open at Roker and South Shields, I have been I'll for a long time and on a disabled scooter and thought about having a go at spinning for macky as I cant cast a beech caster anymore. Cheers
The gates for both piers are usually open through the day unless the sea is rough or there is very bad weather, shields pier gates are usually closed by the port of Tyne man about 20:30 and Roker Pier gates are open all night if the weather is good and the sea is calm.
Nice one Gary looked like some good size ones caught and lost!. Do you always fish seawards or is giving the other side worth a try. Tight Lines Alan 👍🐟🐟🐟
Thanks Alan. I fish both sides but you have to watch for the rope off the lobster pots on the river side but you can catch both sides most of the time.
whens this garry. went couple weeks back after u had been and got loads in the morning was there half an hour got 9 n a pollock n went home. been twice since n no one getting nout
aye they were putting a bend in my 1.75lb carp rod pulling the lin out aswell had to have clutch set like a was catching wales haha. goin out on the jfk boat the morra wreck fishing for the cod n that
Mackerel so much more fun on a single spinner..equivalent to catching a 1lb bass on light spinning gear and good way to dispatch them humanly...gone are the days of fishers elbow dropping the fish from The top bar of the pier lmao.
those r some good sized mackerel. really looks fun to catch them on light tackle haha
Oi that's my spot Gary. At the life ring between the two sets of steps haha. Another mint video mate. I'm out Sunday morning can't wait
