Nice video and channel mate. You passed me on the pier on Sunday night, I was the lad with the ear buds in who said hello to you. I didn't clock it was you til you'd gone past though! Was loads of macky caught on the pier Saturday afternoon/night but the wind changed and temperature dropped on the Sunday and they were a lot more scarce, you did canny well to pull a couple of them out. Think they'll be back in numbers later this week when the weather clears up a bit like.
Another great video! Keep filming mate!!! A bit too early for mackerel season but won't be long! :))) I just can't wait to go there back again. South Shields Piers is my favorite pier so far. Fantastic place!
@@fishingintheukgarywood Gary, when you fish for mackerel off Shields pier do you bother what the state of tide is or just go when the fish are likely to be feeding i.e. 4.30am?
Great video mate 👍 I was planning that early Saturday morning due to the weather and tide all for sand eels. Really need a good few of them as I'm away to etive in a few weeks for 5 days and I know them spurdogs love them. Keep the uploads coming mate and some day might see you on the pier.
@@fishingintheukgarywood i didnt bother mate, as i had to drive back home, so it was to much of a drive to start fishing on the rag. I'll be down again soon though hopefully! Take care
Another great video when was this mate I was along last night for couple hours before high tide was a couple coming in I managed a launce and pollock only seen couple mackys
What you think for tomorrow mate I be having alook down for 10 high tide is 11 you think there be chance of macky tide only 4m I think but should be there still
Yeah it doesn't have to be windy anymore best day for it really and has to be 17 degrees so hopefully get myself a couple n it worth the half hour drive n 4 quid parking ahah
Hi, South shields and roker pier would be a good place to start or if your not into pier fishing the rocks just past the big beach and along the leas towards marsden beach might be a good place to try.
My spinning rod is rated 12 to 35g but the heavier the spinning rod is the less likely it is to snap mine just about copes with getting the mackerel up the pier wall.
What type of lure do you use on the end of your rig ? I've been using a heavy type of spoon it makes the sabiki lures move more life like in the deeper water
What do you use to catch the pollock mate, when I go I seem to get snagged a lot, all the mackerel is in now mate I went Saturday everyone was catching them
Great video again. I'm local and a bit of a novice, one question how do you know when the piers are going to be open (Shields and Rocker) can you get out there at 4.30am every day of the week?
Thanks Simon, shields pier is open 07:30 to 20:00 most people climb round if they are shut but only if the sea isnt rough. Roker pier is usually open all night if the weather isn't to bad but if the gates are locked I wouldn't recommend going on because the water does come over the top of the pier when it's rough.
Brilliant thanks, was unsure about climbing round but do really fancy a crack a dawn on one of these fine days. As for Roker I went down night before last at 9.30pm sea flat calm and gates locked. I couldn't understand it.
Thanks Chris. I mainly use a pro am that's made by my local tackle shop and sometimes I use a century carbon metal. The other rod with the red bottom section that I use to use in my earlier videos is an old north western I'm not sure if they still make them the rod is about 20 year old.
Quality video mate cheers. Ive got to check the fishing out down there soon. What's the best time/ conditions for mackerel fishing on the pier? I'd love to get some fish this year.
Thanks mate. Best conditions are a calm sea and settled weather. I usually prefer to fish first and last light a few hours before and after high water.
First thing or last thing at high tide for mackerel and garfish. In Cornwall I noticed that it was best with a slight swell. Used to catch mackerel off the Marine Drive at Scarborough - before the wall was reinforced with granite blocks! Float fishing a herring strip used to be best as the mackerel are feeding on sile in August and September. Used to be big ones as well.
I gary i went on the pier on the following friday with my new bait casting reel and was in on the first cast south wall near the end and yes i was plaged by small mackerel and colefish but did manage a couple of nice ones so from now on fishing with feathers and beachcasters and 5 ounce weights errrr no thanks lol
Gary ive got a question im thinking about going back on the pier tomorrow but low water is about 11 ish i dont want to get stuck with all the knackers that fish thought day with there cans and stinking dope so i like to fish it early morning like your self hang on im getting side tracked the question is does the pier fish when the tides going out lol
Nice video and it's nice to see a Father and Son out fishing together also no swearing in the video., just fishing and enjoying yourselves.
Thanks Matthew, he's my nephew he hasn't been out fishing for a while but he's starting to get back into it now.
@@fishingintheukgarywood Great to hear. Keep him interested.
Great video - Surprising how much better feathers are than baited hooks.... Fast action....
This place is incredible, Congratulations, Beautiful Video.
HUG AND GOOD FISH!👍🎣
Hi, I was working at a site near by 10 days ago and wandered down to the pier, a great spot. Maybe bump into you one day. Tight lines.

You're quite lucky having a pier, beach and rock marks locally..nice vid thx

Really enjoy that, looks a cracking spot.
Another quality video Gary! Nice to see the mackerel back. Great fun on light tackle 👍
Thanks Gary 👍
Hey nice video :) I finally got my mackerel caught this year, got it on video as well. .....well chuffed 😆😆
nice fishing, i love a bit of fresh mackerel simply pan fried.
Thanks.
Worth the early morning
Class video gary mate I love shields pier for fishing , tight lines mate
Thanks mate, tight lines.
Nice one mate! Im the guy that said hi to you last night from edinburgh!
Nice result! Hopefully the start of the season :D Tight lines!

No probs mate. Hopefully there are more fish about next time your down.
@@fishingintheukgarywood hows the mackeral coming in now mate? Any better than the last time i was down? And how does it fish on low tide?
Im not sure Lee I haven't been on the pier for a while, usually fishes best a few hours before and after high tide for the mackerel.
Great video mate well done some nice fish too
Thanks mate.
nice vido gary looks like you had a good day mate.
Thanks Anton aye it was canny.
Where do you park that time in the morning , thought the car park did'nt open until 8:00
The first part of the car park is open all the time the bit across from where the coaches park.
we use those Sandeel to fish for Sea Bass in Portugal
Aye they make excellent bait.
Are sandeels any good to eat - like whitebait?
Is it possible to fish down those steps by the pier wall with a whip? Could be fun for the smaller species?
It's not worth it Adam they are quite slippy and usually a bit minging in the summer because people use them as a toilet.
@@fishingintheukgarywood Oh thats a shame! Great venue though. Lovin the vids! Keep em goin!!
going fishing tomorrow and this is a likely spot, i was thinking about using gulp worms but im not to sure so if you have any suggestions let me know!
I haven't had much success using the gulp worms on the pier but have with isome worms (the pink ones) catching flounder and scorpion fish.
@@fishingintheukgarywood thanks i'll be sure to double check next time i'm not sure on what to use.

Wonder why all the eels get hooked in middle of body as well myne was hooked exact same place but with spinner
Must have just missed you I was there from about 5 till 7 unlucky I didn't catch any mwcky they must have came in at higher tide
Thanks mate. The first part of the video was early Saturday morning and the mackerel were caught last night.
I think they go for the lures then realise that they arnt food and turn away but not in time to get away from the hooks.
Yeah I didn't get there untill after 8

Hi , going to be starting out sea fishing and was wanting to know , what size of lure and make and what make and size feathers are you using . Cheers
Hi, i usually use the dennett sea krill 25g lure and herring feathers with either a size 8 or 6 hook.
@@fishingintheukgarywood thanks for replying back to me and for posting great videos. Mike from Dunfermline / Scotland
What rig do you use for catching sandeel can't seem to find one with small enough hooks
The ones I use are sabik rigs for Herron but they work a treat for catching sandeel.
Hi I’m from Newcastle towards town way any recommendations for lure fishing spots and I’ve just started fishing not long ago

Great video really enjoyed. What size is your BG reel as I’m thinking of getting one for a bit of light spinning work. Have my eye on the 3500.
Thanks, it's a 3000.

What size rod are you using . haven't been fishing for 40 years but thinking of taking it up Agen looked on link but a few sizes
The one I've got is 2.74m
Thanks mate
Planning on my first trip out this year on Saturday morning, still no sign of mackerel yet but going to give it a shot, will you be out on Saturday?
It's worth a shot hopefully they will turn up. I dont think I'll be out on Saturday.
Do u need heavy spinning g rod for this m8?
My spinning rod is rated 12 to 35g but the heavier the spinning rod is the less likely it is to snap mine just about copes with getting the mackerel up the pier wall.
Good eating.

What do you use to catch the pollock mate, when I go I seem to get snagged a lot, all the mackerel is in now mate I went Saturday everyone was catching them
You can use metal spinners, jelly worms work well for them on the pier, if you keep getting snagged you could try float fishing for them mate.
What kind of jelly worms work the best mate
The fire tail jelly worms have worked for me in the past on the pier.
Cheers mate

That's what usually puts me off going to roker pier as much. Traveling all the way there and the gates being locked.
Do you always fish either side of high tide for the Mackerel?
Yes I usually do it's what I prefer but I think when they are in fully I think you can catch them at other states of the tide aswell.
Fishing in the UK Cheers, looks like I’ll have to wait till later in the week for an early morning session to miss the crowds.
