Yes, Rosa Gallery PY150 is gorgeous! As long as I know, Lukas is a German brand. I love your mixes and this kind of video series. I will try to follow your last skillshare class about coffee lovers :D Have a nice weekend!
Wow thank you!! I’d be elated if you followed my class! Yes, Lukas is a German brand, you are right, but it has been bought by Fila Group (the same as Daler Rowney) and it’s currently manufactured in the UK. I wonder if they will change this after Brexit!
Thanks for another great informative video! I'm not new to art but new to watercolors and I'm trying to understand them better and your videos really help with that! I also love Sennelier watercolors they are my favorite so far. I also really love their soft pastels and oil pastels.
I like the DS one, but that’s maybe because I love all Cobalt colors. I also have the Schminke one in my pallet additionally to my azo-yellow. Just for a cool yellow. Thanks for the video!
The Schminke colour is beautiful and I will add it to my palette! Still, I feel I will also need a earthier Aureolin as well. Thanks for the feedback Martina 🤗! You are right cobalt Colors are amazing.
Thanks I appreciate videos such as these. i just got Rosa Gallery for the Magenta Rose and picked out Aureoline with it(as well as Ultramarine Blue). I feel reassurance seeing the comparisons.
I have never tried the PY40 because of the lightfastness issues. So I first got the M.Graham Aureolin Hue PY151 and but then I fell in love with PY150 because of the transparency and the range of values it can achieve. I have the Sennelier, the Rosa Gallery and the QOR.
Lovely informative video and great comparison and demonstration, thank you Elisabetta! Could you share which sketchbook was used for the lemon painting? I love the linen-like texture! Aureolin is always spelled with an 'e', but it can be both a noun (referring to the paint) and an adjective (from the Latin, meaning 'of gold'). I think the Rosa Gallery may have misspelled on their tubes if they are missing an e!
Thank you Ani, thanks a lot! The sketchbook is a plain cellulose watercolour sketchbook by Arteza. Very budget friendly! About spelling, actually, I meant a finale e: Aureolin or Aureoline? I find it both ways, so I’m slightly confused… Have a very lovely Sunday!! Elisabetta xx
@@WatercolorElisabetta Thank you, I will have to check it out! It’s rare to find paper with that horizontal linen texture, let alone budget friendly! Good question about the spelling, I would only speculate that the Aureoline spelling may be the older/more traditional form (similar to old fashioned shoppe vs shop) and Aureolin is the more modern form. But that would just be my theory, I can’t see anything that would distinguish one from the other 💛
Thank you for this in-depth comparison! Do you think adding this yellow into other light fast mixes improves its durability? I’ve not heard many other people talk about mixing fugitive colors in with stable colors… Only oil and acrylic painters talk about using Impasto to make fugitive colors more stable.
Hi! I sincerely can’t give you a solid opinion. I think you should try testing it yourself …however, to be on the safe side, I would use a lightfast alternative, there are quite a few beautiful ones!
Once again Elisabetta, you have opened my eyes to pigment knowledge - you make me realise just how important pigment knowledge is. Re your previous M Graham video, I checked the price for all the different sets from M Graham on Jacksons site - a shocking £60!!! Even when they have a sale I doubt they will match the price of £45 on Amazon. I purchased two very interesting sets and can’t wait for them to arrive tomorrow hopefully! Does the Italian Amazon sell M Graham sets and individual tubes like the UK version? x
Hello Anita!! I can find many MG sets on Amazon Italy at reasonable prices. Individual tubes are sold only in an amazing 30 ml format!! Which will last for many generations I guess…anyway, I will buy my next set on Amazon! Thank you Anita for your very kind words and let me know about your new sets 😀xx
Hello! I've got autentic PY40 from Sennelier and it looks more yellow to me than the ones you have swatched, though it is is hard to say because the colors in the screen are not always reliable. I think the most similar to it is the smincke hue PY151. Anyway, it is not lightfast, as expected, and a very transparent, not staining and clean color.
Hi Maria! One thing I have learned is that cobalt colours are extremely variable, so it’s perfectly possible that Sennelier version is a cleaner yellow…yellow is a colour that I use a lot so sooner or later I might need a tube from Sennelier! 😀
I would love to try that Rosa Gallery paint! Can you provide a link or name for the shop on Etsy? Another great review and in depth look at an interesting pigment.
Thank you for reminding me!! I have now added the link in the description box! They are very helpful, tubes were not listed in the shop so they prepared a batch for me. 😊
Alexandra hi!! You might have solved the mistery! Although some brands like Rembrandt or Roman Szmal use Aureoline with an E for the English name! But these are not English brands….thanks a lot I think you’re right! Best, Elisabetta :)
I have Aureolin made with the original PY40 from Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, Daniel Smith and Rembrandt, and my favourite is Winsor & Newton. It's a shame that they are not very lightfast. I love to paint with them and I use them in 100% cotton sketchbooks so that the colour won't deteriorate.
@@WatercolorElisabetta If you like honey-based paints, Sennelier and Jackson's also make Aureolin(e) with PY40. I don't know how expensive paints are in Italy; perhaps the half-pans are much more affordable that the tubes. The Sennelier/Jackson's brands rewet very well. W&N isn't bad either. W&N, Sennelier and Daniel Smith are very similar and dilute to a pale yellow. It all depends on the consistency at which you like to use your paints. Some PY150 dilute to the same pale yellow. But if you dilute your paint to a creamy consistency, the mass tones will be slightly different. There are also some Ochres, Transparent Yellow Oxides and Raw Siennas similar to PY40, either in mass tone, or when diluted. It all depends what you like to paint. I'm not trying to discourage you from trying out PY40; la pagliuzza e la trave... I have many of them because I was on a "buy everything cobalt" a few years ago. 😊
@@basta.dotto_ I think I will keep my 2 tubes of PY40 without adding new ones…my Aureolin collection is large enough! 😂 Sennelier is one of my love brands and sold here by my favourite local store, better for me than equivalent r Jackson’s after Brexit….Cobalt is a very fascinating family! Thanks for your contribution. Elisabetta
Love nickel azo yellow. It's my favorite yellow
Yes! So transparent and glowing! Thanks for your comment
Bellissimo e utilissimo video anche questo sul mio giallo preferito... Winsor e Newton e Rembrandt rimangono comunque i miei preferiti
Ele, ma Renesans che pigmento usa?

Si bellissimo! Pulito e trasparente…
And now I’m in love with PY40. I think one day I’ll try a palette of PY40, PB27, and either PR83 or NR9.
Now I was thinking the same! A non lightfast palette with all those delightful colours for sketchbooks only ! ❤️
I’m about to try that soon.
