- Every international medical graduate (IMG) is struck with fear when they wonder if all the time and effort they've put into their internship would go to waste if it wasn't then accepted by GMC.
So what IS an acceptable pattern of internship as per the GMC criteria in order to get full registration to work as a doctor in the UK? How can you get it?

1. Medicine ---- General med, derma, psychiatry, paeds, anaesthesia, emergency medicine, Radiology, Nuclear medicine, Radiotherapy .
2. Surgery ---- General surgery, OBGYN, ENT, Optha, Orthopaedics.

Does social medicine could count as Medicine? In my country it is a rotation where students go to a second level hospital in the countryside and attend normally but in a rural context👀
Is medical diploma important to get provisional GMC registration? Can I get it with deans letter stating I have passed the final exam and qualified but not yet received the diploma?

I had a question, what if my internship was done in different countries, ie 6 months in home country, 3 months in UK, 3 months in US as pregraduate internship in an EEA university, would this be accepted?
When the GMC says the date of your completion certificate should "match" the end of your internship programme, do they mean the date exactly 365 days later or just close to when the programme ends? The next day for example?

Are you sure that branches of medicine (e.g. Pediatrics/cardiology/pulmonary medicine etc) are included in the 3 or 6 months of medicine that is required? Or does this 3 month provision refer only to internal medicine?
Yes they are included
12 months (or 12-18/ 18+) refers duration from start to finish (including gaps for exam periods/summer gap) or are we talking about 12 months in absolute days/weeks (for example 12 months of rotations in a total duration of ie 15 months because of obligatory gaps of the medical program)??
for example if you did 14 months but spread out in a period 19 months(because of two exam periods and a summer time off for example), do you need 6+6 months of medicine and surgery or 3+3??

I did my medical studies in Ukraine and graduated and did a one year clinical residency in Ukraine in obstetrics and Gynecology, in Ukraine there is no internship but postgraduate training. I did mine only for one year does that count as a form of internship or clinical experience for the GMC?
Or should I apply for UKFPO? Im confused please help?

I am from Turkey and currently I am implementing my internships.
May I do my 6 weeks of Paediatrics internship at another university's hospital at Turkey? Will it be an issue for FY1? Both my university and another university are approved by GMC. My university and professors will approve my request.
(Total duration of my internship is 12 months and consists of 3months surgery and at least 3months of medicines, and there is no interruption)

Hello Mam I am a graduate from Pakistan. I graduated in 2010 , then internship for one year in 2011 as House job / foundation year. However after that i had joined rural health clinic and prepared for post graduate entrance exam which i passed in 2014 as well as MRCP Part 1 and waited for next two years to join residency in medicine. I did fellowship training from 2016 to 2020 and then passed MRCP UK in 2021 and joined second fellowship training in 2022. I dont have any evidence for employment from 2012 to 2016 . How will it affect my GMC registration. Thanks

Is a rotation of general surgery, Anesthesia, general medicine and radiology with 3 months each accepted by the gmc ? Along with that ,will this 3 months of surgery and 9 months of medicine reflect poorly on someones cv that looking to pursue surgery in the future 🥺

HI mam, in a 12 months internship can we do continuous 6 months parctice in a pirticular medical speciality and an other 6 months in a surgical speciality . For example, 6 months in neurology and 6 months in neurosurgery ? will this be acceptable. I have done this from a private hospital after my graduation.

Hi Doctor! Can you give an opinion about NHS losing their junior doctors over salary deals (considering the high global inflation). Personally, as an expat I’m more inspired to pass PLAB coz the more NHS Will be in need of doctors. Yes. PLAB or all 3 steps of MRCP/CS is needed to get full registration with GMC

I've had pre-graduate internship for one semester before the graduation, for about 5 months, during which I also had to write my graduation thesis.
I was then eligible to sit the state exam after which I started working in Healthcare centre, in family medicine units. I also had to complete PAT education for a year, in order to be able to work as a family doctor (not a specialist) in the family medicine units. After working there for 2,5 years, I started nephrology training, and I'm now on my second year.
Will the experience I have be enough to get a full registration, once I pass the PLABs, or will I have to start from scratch once I come to the UK, considering my surgical experience is nowhere near enough?
If the full duration of your internship was only five months, it would not meet the acceptable pattern criteria.
@@RoadToUK Yeah, thanks. I assumed as much about the internship. But I thought, since I've been working for the past 4 years, and even started my residency, I hoped I wouldn't have to do it all over again 😢 I hope I'll manage to figure something out, I really don't feel like starting from FY1 😄

Hello... My intenship was 12 months but it was unpaid however was in public hospital acceptable by local medjcal authority?
Internship doesn't have to be paid to be accepted by GMC.

Hi doc, I graduated from foreign country and then started internship in my home country, after one year of graduation. I had a gap before starting my internship and my graduation month is because I can’t start internship without giving FMGE exam in my home country and this exam is conducted just twice a year. So will GMC consider this gap while I was preparing for FMGE exam and grant me permanent registration once I apply for it? I contacted gmc via mail but their answer to my query lead to nowhere. How come they can’t answer this simple question.
Gmc does not consider FMG exam as valid reason, need to have better reason than that.

But one cannot start working in home country until and unless passing licensing exam. Isn’t that valid reason?
@siddharthpatel2036 As my seniors and doctors at Uk says, they do not consider it but for my experience i’m gonna apply for it in couple of months. so i’ll use covid lockdown and 6 month fmge delay for reason. Let’s see how it goes
@@davidverma2588 Goodluck. I have read different posts on different Facebook groups and GMC accepts that with some post internship experience. I hope everything goes well for you. Please do share once you get through the process. There’s not much about FMG Exam on internet and the gap cuz of it.

I really worried that my internship would get me rejected from GMC. i was doing internship on february 2019, government program. It was supposed to be 12 months as GMC demanding but Covid-19 happen then the government just cut out my internship duration to 9 months. I begged the comittee to extend just my internship to 12 months but they said if others in the same program doesnt want to then there’s nothing i can do, thus i finished in november 2019. After job searching, i was working independently in the hospital in february 2020 then still working until now (i never had any gaps since although im preparing plab im still working) so how am i explaining this to the GMC? Am i hopeless? Please ive been trying ask this anywhere but nobody answer

I did my clerkship in philippines now im currently working in icu department in india so does my job experience in india will be sufficient to apply at fy2 or do i have to apply for fy1
