    NHS sounds like its a mess, not due to Politicians but the dinosaurs and the people in management. The problem people have in the UK is they treat the NHS like a religion/cult and don't want anyone reforming it and keep demanding more money gets put into it without more quality.
    I think one important note to mention with the UK vs Australia matter, the reason is simply the ratio of Medical to population is significantly different. The UK Population is 65 Million with just about 250,000 'registered' doctors although how many are actually good / in work is another thing. The Australian Population is around 25 Million with roughly 125,000 doctors. It's been noted this allows more time per patient simply because the numbers are different and in favour. Not to mention the UK as a destination for influx NHS tourism.

    A very revealing conversation. Thank you.
    My main observation is to both of you. And, to any potential readers.
    Your mindset when living away from 'home' is critical. Are you a visitor longing for 'home', OR are you living there?
    What Surina did was a well paid Gap year. Lots of flying visits to Tourist spots, complete with photos. Living in an expat community. Comparing notes. Missing 'home' and family.
    If she had involved herself more with Australian colleagues, she would have discovered that many of them were far from 'home' within this large country. They, too, could not get to every family event because they don't originate from a tourist spot and transport is difficult/expensive.
    This is NOT to say that either country is 'better'. But, cultural differences can only be noted by immersion in the other culture. So, find out what the 'locals' do. ( Across Australia, this varies widely.) Join in. Participate.
    The five weeks of leave is to provide an opportunity to travel further, and to recharge the mental and physical batteries. Learn how to use it!
    Surina's observations on the life of a hospital doctor are very fair. Also, how difficult (almost impossible) it is to get into many medical specialities. (Contacts. Family. School. etc)
    Other Doctors should consider working away from Australia's capital cities. It is more personal - in every sense. You meet work colleagues socially and randomly. They have time for you. They welcome you to a smaller community. (The pay is similar. The expenses are lower. But, Gap year travel is OUT!)

    What about racism 🤔

    • @Mav_F
      @Mav_F 2 роки тому +5

      Racism is everywhere and frankly, you bringing it up makes you actually a racist person. There are certain nationalities in Australia that are racists big time and true Australians don't make the Top 5 of that list.

      The UK is just as racist as Australia, the difference is Brits just hide it better.
