- On October 27th 2021 I was conducting a 1st Amendment Audit at the City Hall in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Everything was going great until I was approached by a City Hall employee named Tom. He informed me that they didn’t allow filming in City Hall because it was not “appropriate”
The Allentown Police were called and besides one officer who didn’t want to identify herself I thought they did a pretty decent job. My rights weren’t violated and they left without incident.
As I was about to leave, I ran into the Assistant Chief Of Police as well as the Chief Charles Roca, I had a great conversation with both of them and I felt like our dialogue really helped, even if only a little, bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public they are charged to serve and protect.

The chap at the front desk is the unsung hero of this audit! He had no agenda to profit from, but showed respect anyway. He made LIA's visit easy and seamless, supporting him in his mission to film throughout the building. He appeared cognisant of what was happening. As the first face of this City I hope they appreciate what he brings to their organisation. Well done Sir!

The "chap" seems to be more youthful than most employees there. He is probably way less uptight when it comes to cameras and being recorded. The employee named Tom acted like he was just caught leaving a house of ill repute.
Didn't even realize but your very right he did set the tone for a pleasant experience but Tom ruined it with his sarcastic remarks and flat out lies what really saved it was the chef because even the captain was asking too many questions and the woman was flat out disrespectful.

When the security guard at the front desk knows more then Tom it is obvious that these audits are absolutely essential.

Agree and took the time to listen to the auditor and apply transparency for the auditors rights. The interaction was a message to them that showed dialog on how auditor sean and the public wishes things were with law enforcment and not have law enforcement be feeling police and not infringe auditors rights to film in public settings

This is a very old video, but I feel obligated to comment. This is why LIA stands above so many other audit channels. You present not just the negative incidents, but also the positive interactions like the conversations with the police here (other than officer #30). This is how you earn credibility for your audits and this is why you are the gold standard for this type of work. Well done, Sean.

If I were that police chief I would then do spot audits of her body cam for the next few MONTHS to make sure she has corrected her bad attitude when dealing with the public. 2 more strikes and she'd be on desk duty with no public interaction. It's a PRIVILEGE to be thought highly enough of to deal with the public.

it amazes me how people miss how proud they should be of their place of work, why work somewhere if you have no idea of it's significance, i'm an artist and it breaks my heart that people can't appreciate how amazing life can be, even if you're a clerk behind a desk it's great to think you are making a difference of any kind. i hope that grumpy git officer wakes up to life and realises there is more too it that trash cans, what a sad brain she carries around.

I’m grateful to be able to see them by auditors taking me along for the ride. And some of these venues have art i also would never see otherwise. If a PUBLIC entity uses MY tax dollars to purchase an art piece for Thousands and sometimes millions of dollars and then tells me I’m not allowed to film or take pictures of it... then the exorbitant spending will be halted b/c i will make it my mission to make sure that if that art is ONLY for the benefit of the elite employees of that bldg at MY expense... that would be a big hell No. THE PEOPLE bought it... THE PEOPLE get to enjoy it too!!! What good does it do to hide it under a bushel ?
I also love the fact that these places are so boring that no one in their right mind could possibly be doing a story.
While at the same time, so unbelievably crucial that they need a platoon of officers and govt employees to protect it from the camera.

This is literally the best police chief and assistant I've ever seen in one of these audits. This is hopeful. My hope is that eventually this is what your channel is, examples of people, public workers/officials and police respecting the rights of all citizens. Also, the security desk clerk guy was top notch as well! Even sounded enthusiastic about what Sean was doing. More of all this please.

I used to watch these for the rush of citizens putting officers in their place. Its very refreshing to see good cops and agencies out there. They have a bit of a bad apple in their force, but the chiefs demeanor leads me to believe she will be reprimanded and corrected.

If you don't pay attention to dispatch calls sometimes the caller lies and that makes the response more than it should be BUT at least these officers didn't violate his rights and the chief is focused on protecting our rights. The chief and assistant chief were awesome, that's how it's done. They're good officers and should be the example set forth for other police officers. That female officer is a disgrace and an embarrassment, she has no business being in law enforcement with her bad attitude and her unstable emotions.

So I see everyone saying "That chief and assistant chief are great cops and all cops should be like them." Now look, I am 100% in agreement that they did great in this situation, but to call them good cops is dangerous because we have no idea if it is true or not. Basically, they did great in this situation and it should be recognized, but do we honestly think he is holding his fellow cops accountable when they do something illegal? I highly doubt that. We shouldn't be saying these were great cops, but that they did great in this situation. It helps close the gap between extremist on both sides, BUT it still gives leeway for the public to expect them to be better in other important areas, most importantly, in my opinion, is them holding other cops to the same standard the laws they bestow upon normal citizens.

There absolutely ISN'T anything going on there. 100% of the REAL Police brutality that occurs is out on the road. Road Cops, Beat Cops, Patrolmen, whatever you wanna call it, are the ones getting caught up in brutality and corruption. Which, over here in reality, not frauditor land, we know that the percentage of good Cops outweighs the number of bad Cops. And yes, I absolutely agree with you guys on ONE thing: Anytime an Officer draws and shoots and kills a citizen who's actually completely innocent of doing anything, is one time too many and should never happen.

The chief's at the end of the video deserve to be commended for their professionalism towards you. Some people just don’t know how to deal with conflict and to separate themselves from the facts. You could see he took Sean’s refusal personally, which he should not have. It is hard to separate personal feelings, but Sean does a pretty good job of it under stress.

I need to point out a couple of honorable mentions. The security guy in the main lobby was awesome. And I wonder who the guy was that spoke to the police officer right before the police back down. I suspect he was the City attorney but who knows. Great audit, LIA. If only all the police chief's across the country could have half of this Chiefs apparent integrity, we would be in a much better place.

What a bunch of passive/aggressive, sarcastic, inattentive, public servants. The female officers loves to give orders without regards to law. She thinks quite a bit of herself. What spacecraft did the chief and assistant chief just step off of? So refreshing to see police that care. If I were the chief after seeing this conduct, there would be a department wide meeting with butt chewing. Tom was the guy in high school that got a swirly every week.
She needs to be extra to prove her worth,, which is not much.

This was one of the best interactions I've seen, with the exception of the little lady tyrant. Even the PO who interacted with you, in the end finally got it and made you feel well and hence, us as viewers as well. The Chief and Assistant Chief were outstanding. Kudos, Sean.

I agree! I started off by watching Amaganset Press and he just got on my nerves how much he talked. Okay, he does do a pretty good job but he is still miles away from being as good as Sean.

I say the worse part was how they contuine to try and make you ID yourself when no laws were being broken. How they think they have the right to make things up to make people comply voiolating your consitutional rights to be secure in your papers this is not germany but starting to be. I mostly agree with you but there was that female LEO in the infancy stages of tyranny and that other LEO of the Right Here gang. Would have loved to see them called out to the chief and ass chief to hear their thoughts on those 2 officer's behavior.
I do believe I spotted the thug thin blue flag patch on one of the officers. I will have to go back and re-watch it. I think the tide is starting to turn and the general public is more educated regarding our rights.

If he was being honest (and I believe he was) then this is one of the best police chiefs I have seen! Hopefully he has a quiet word with that female officer (and the captain too in my opinion) . She technically didn't really do anything that was wrong but I'm sure that her policy states that she has to be courtious and respectful, which she was not.
That sarcasm was wrong. Nobody who has worked customer service, and done it well, would act like that.

It's probably borderline, depending on how much integrity her superiors have. Everything she did was wrong. Most likely they have a policy that she has to identify herself. After that her attitude and sarcasm just escalates a situation and turns it into an argument. She's a terrible police officer and should be fired.

She should because that is just common courtesy and professionalism. I doubt it is reprimandable to not verbally state it when it is displayed though. I think an attitude adjustment is sorely needed. Firing her because of it is highly unlikely though.

It’s amazing to me how most female officers have such a nasty attitude toward others. I see it in videos all the time and it’s almost like they feel that they have to put on a front that makes them look tough. The beautiful thing about female officers is that they have an ability to be more compassionate with the public during times of crisis. The sad fact that I see in this video is that we have found a rouge officer who’s more concerned with looking tough rather than showing that compassion. That female officer really made women, as a whole, look bad and it’s very upsetting to me!!
