I agree
i will pay huge money for that
i will pay huge money for that
I'll take Rob bathing in Gravity Pick for £500
if you were head of a team of superheroes, they would be called the Chap-men.
+Bad Motivator #teamchapman
I can play an E-chord.
/m\
Fucking brutal dude
+Erik Nyberg I can play an Em7add11
Just downtune to drop-D, then you're halfway to being able to djent.
Just downtune to drop-D, then you're halfway to being able to djent.
Wait... your teacher was Dave Kilminster?!
I'm also confused
Yes! He plays for Steven Wilson, Roger Waters etc
+Rob Chapman He is such a talented guitar player! Truly amazing!
+Rob Chapman Well that certainly explains a number of things
My guitar teachers named Dave and his last name starts with a "K" too lol, not the same dave though obviously
Once you go Jazz picks, you don't go back.
+James Russo I don't like Jazz III Picks. I use 1.0 mm dunlop big stubby picks
I use the Jazz III XL size, fell in love with them. Typically use tortex, but waiting on the new Prinetone ones now :)
+James Russo I use the Ultex ones, recommended by Bea 😁
jazz 3 max grips in carbon fiber 👍
ikr!
I bought your sig gravity and now i swear by gravity razors i love them best picks i have ever used i wont use anything else
Alex Lifeson gave me a pick when I met him, that was a good day.
I was actually buying some picks today, I've used jazz IIIs for years and after reading up about Paul Gilbert I wanted to try some thinner ones (.50 mil). surprisingly, I'm liking them so far.
You're so generous Rob, that's a really cool prize.
$195usd for the case filled with picks.
Add shipping
+Rob Chapman chapman guitars should make acoustic
+Greg Hay "Free shipping on USA orders over $30" :)
+Rob Chapman is ot in d or am I stupid
+RockGuitarist1294 not everybody lives in USA bro
My mom works at the post office where Chris ships all his orders. One day she asked what the countless packages he sends out contained. When he told her they were guitar picks, she mentioned that I played guitar. He then said that I could pick two styles and try them for free. Needless to say, i fell in love and knew I wouldn't be using any other brand again. After a few months of using my 1.5 mm Tripp, I found out that you were working on your signature pick and I had to try it out. Once I tried it out, I landed on 2mm unpolished Razers in dark green. I haven't used another pick since then. I have no plans to either. They are amazing picks and they are made just a few miles outside of my hometown. By far the best local business I've come across.
I love the idea behind this contest. Its a great concept and helps make for a more well rounded musician
I just bought two of your signature gravity picks and they're absolutely the best feeling picks I've used by far
i recently purchased myself a rob chapman signature gravity pick, and i will never look back
changed the way i play \m/
But I can't play guitar that we'll yet
There is no way I can play that riff well.
+jordan minter
Just practice bro, many hours :)
+jordan minter more than a month available to practice...so PRACTICE, PRACTICE PRACTICE! you'll get it down :)
+Tay Beveridge just do your best, play it slow, make it sound cool... don't worry about the price, just give it a try. This will for sure help you develop your skills :)
+Tay Beveridge that's the way. just do it. I already tabbed this out and it really is a fun riff to play.
Good luck!
My fav pick. I think the chicken pick and tusq pick are a tiny bit better tonally but the gravity pick makes me play better. There is a very slight tradeof where it makes an unpleasant noise if the string rings and the gravity pick touches it and semi mutes it but that is the only drawback. For sheer playability it craps over everything.
I'd like to see you bathe in the picks to the ducktails theme 😁
Chappers I am loving that riff. As soon as I heard it, it resonated with me and now I must learn it. Very much intrigued to see how this solo album progresses.
I'll try one, thanks for the tip. I love the JD Jazz III
Funny thing about working out tunes... We both started playing before the internet. You couldn't just Google tab. You either worked it out yourself or learned it off someone else then passed the knowledge on. Far more organic and I think it imparts some useful skills.
I love that they always look like they're glowing
Rob, I also acquired one of these wonderful Gravity picks in a JHS pedal I had purchased. This is always my go to pick weather playing the acoustic or electric. Keep up the good work!
I would LOVE to have an assortment of pics like that!!
Gosh, you put open chords into a single-note metal riff!
Haha, GREAT!
Rob, Thanks for your pick "geekiness." 😀
Tuning is one whole step down, as far as I can tell.
Going to tune my guitar down and take a shot. Thanks Rob, I've needed a reason to learn more things by ear for a while now. Hoping I have a chance at this at least...
Cheers from the Netherlands
I've been using Dunlop Max Grip 1.0 for some time now. I love them. I didn't ever had too many different picks anyway. Just the regular nylon stuff, a few stubby picks, the Jazz III by Dunlop and the Max Grips.
I've still got the pink plastic pick that came with my first guitar, and I also bought a bloodwood and a mahogany wooden pick, but the main pick I use is the Tenacious D pick. (I got a set of 8 of them for Christmas a few years back) It's actually a really cool pick, you've got the stiff pointed edge for single notes like in solos, and the softer rounded edges for chords, mainly good for power chords. :) I really like it.
Thanks for the heads up big brother, just ordered 3 of your Sigs. I have used Jazz III's for years now, But I'll give Gravity Picks a try.
I legit flinched when the chicken noise happened! Loooool.
Sweet picks and presentation box. Your Ghostfret is fast becoming my favourite looking guitar.
It's an awesome looking guitar :) I was going to buy one but I saw an ESP LTD MH series and ended up putting down a deposit it ... ghost fret dreams went poof
+BeardedViper Makes sense to me! I do like the idea of something different tho.
nice to see competitions. I personally wouldn't go to the effort of making video entries for a competition for anything less than a Les Paul (or similar), but will eat popcorn to see how many make the effort for some plectrums :)
Steel pick you mentioned. I started using Dava's with a steel tip and I loved the way it sounded, until I also noticed that it was destroying my strings! Especially the D string gets so flat and flat-sounded too.. I stopped using them.
and im over here rockin them free guitar center picks
I can confirm for you all that if you are a light picker like Mr. Chapman, they will last ages and ages. However, if you are a really hard picker such as myself, i am just now barely noticing wear on my extra pointy one after 2 months. But it's wearing down very evenly and nicely, so it's still very useable.
I didn't try Gravity picks until you gave me yours at the Boiler room VIP gig Chappers. I've not used anything else since! Really helps my soloing articulation and has taught me dynamics in strumming for rhythm playing too.
That riff is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard come from a guitar! Plz bath in Picks!
Hype.Hype.Hype.Super hype. Man, as a bass player, I am quite sad with the competition and ,as a Russian, sad about not having gravity picks in my country.
Tho, the riff sounds sick. Love your work Rob. And a huge thank you for every thing you do. You inspire me to get better.
Sigh.. Here's another contest that I can't enter because I'm not good enough lol
I run competitions aimed at players of all kinds of skill level - It was just time to make something for guys who have been playing a while :-)
+Rob Chapman no worries man, greetings from Italy :D
+Luca Bertuolo im with you
+Rob Chapman whats your opinion on dragon heart picks?
+Nino Morelli well clearly I prefer Gravity:-)
that black ghost fret gives me good feelings in the groin...:D
As someone who picks pretty hard, my Gravity pick (Rob's signature one) has worn down quite a lot over the few months I've had it. But saying that, it's without a doubt the best pick I've ever used! Even worn down, their still excellent.
As soon as Chappers mentioned learning Satch Boogie by ear I just thought 'ah fuck...'
Have you ever watched MerkMusic play that?
+Hawkeye Survival faze boooooooce
+BossProductions Fuck yeah.
Thanks Rob! What fun this is.
I love watching your videos. I'll be practicing this rif. don't think I'll play it as fast as you can, but with some soul!!!
p.s. I'm coveting that box of Gravity Picks!
These picks are superb! Got mine from Gravity Picks UK. Free postage over £9 and next day delivery! Awesome picks
This is so crazy, I'm performing satch boogie for my Alevel this Thursday! Was just practicing it
so i once had 2 different gravity pick given to me and while they were cool i found they wore down really fast. the sharp tip is what made then great. once that goes they feel like a thick normal pick. i switched to Dragonheart picks. and its been about a year of owning my one pick from them and i just now started to notice that one of the 3 unique edges wearing down.
I tried Gravity picks and my first impression was like Rob's; I thought they were great and intended to keep using them.
However, unlike Rob, I found they wore out almost immediately. I must have a picking style which doesn't agree with them so I could only use them for a few hours before the tips had reshaped and started catching on the strings.
Great video man! I've been waiting your videos for a few years now and learned a lot
That competition riff vaguely reminds me of the opening to The Seahorse's "Love is the Law" (written/played by John Squire)
To learn that riff, would take me more than a month -.-.
Have tried learning by ear before, but it just doesnt workout.
+eenwieleraar Gotta keep at it.
+eenwieleraar Start with basic power chord songs, and simple pentatonic solos, and before you know it you can figure anything out!
+James Shephard +Go Outside Well thanks guys, will try! I always tried to learn riffs, maybe that was just to hard.
+eenwieleraar Its one of those things you have to suck at until it starts getting better. You'll get there!
+eenwieleraar Patience. Play to the radio - yeah, its pop songs, but they do have no guitars. And you really learn to play. Understand the keys. Song writing formulas.

I remember as a beginner spending hours trying to figure out Pearl Jam's Alive solo by ear which basically meant pausing the CD every few seconds to figure out what he was doing. Good times.
I've been using a thermoplastic pick lately. The wear resilience is ridiculous on it. Still looks brand new. I'll never go back to celluloid shenanigans that practically file down to a stump over time.
Don't have Facebook, nor a skill that could compete but I've been using Gravity Picks for about a year when you mentioned them before and I would not want to use any other pick anymore. I'd also really love one of the pick boxes.
I still use the Gravity pick I got from the Chapman American East Coast Expedition. It barely even looks worn, and I pick pretty hard
I quite liked the Rob Chapman gravity pick I got at the Cleaveland Riff City Chapman Expo (Still one of the best nights I've had in a while) but it was a bit thick for me, and it fell out of my hand faster than any pick I've ever used.
I bought some 1.5mm of the same shape, but they came without the grip hole I thought they were going to come with, and I lost most of those even faster than the Chapman -- They fluoresced though, so they were easy to re-collect.
Maybe when I have more disposable income, I'll get a custom pick made, but until then, I'm going back to 1.14mm Tortex Jazz IIIs and T3s. They just work.
i have no facebook.. guess im done for
I'm in the same boat. Facebook fascists!!!
+larsheuker I don't have facebook either. I really dislike facebook
+Kyle James I find that nobody uses facebook for its original intention now anyway. I'm only ever on the main site when I'm super duper bored and it's too late for me to play guitar without annoying my family. It's only useful for messaging people so you aren't missing out and it's a silly way to advertise imo. Twitter and Instagram is where it's at these days
I don't really do social media well. Using UA-cam is generally as social a person as I get :)
Kyle James probably a good thing tbh it's like a drug when you first get it
I must agree with you rob great picks BUT they are so hard to get here in the UK ,Lee has a few old ones but seem he has not renewed with Gravity picks so far each to there own I like the standard polished .75 and 2.0 polished the challenge is not to try them but to find them :-) of to find some more ......love the videos keep them coming congrats on your new found success
you deserve it
Hey mate... I have my own Gravity pick embedded "Checo". A 1.5mm Razer in Cherry Red, unpolished of course. Feels awesome!!!! Chris is great and all the guys at Gravity. Best picks ever!! Oh and the best combination is Elixir Polyweb strings and Gravity plectrums! Cheers!
I'm currently switching back and forth between Dunlop Tortex sharp 1.14mm and the Jazz III.
Tbh us seeing you play the riff will make it about 10 times easier to learn.
I've been using Gravity picks myself for some time, they just hold up so fantastically and sound amazing!
Have you tried the Gold Series picks, yet? What do you think of them?
Ive always had a problem with picks.I cut off my right hand first finger and it was sewn back into place. My current favs are the tortex yellow or orange. Now,ive also gone through the try everything under the sun pick thing. The best picks ever produced arent made anymore unfortunately. They were the picks that came with the original Newburgh Steinburghers. They came in strips of four and you just snapped one off when needed.Amazing everything.Tone ,grip, etc, etc,.I dont understand why Gibson stopped when they bought steinburgher, but, its not like they did the name any justice anyway.Real shame, later
Holy shit I had no idea you were taught by Dave Kilmister. Absolutely love his 2016 tour with Steven Wilson.
Love ya, Rob! But I'm a beginner, so I'll never have a shot at these. Maybe I don't deserve them since I can't play all that well. But still, it'd be awesome to have a really nice bit of kit to learn with.
Ahhh damn I’m I too late for this win!, I would’ve won but there’s a time zone issue because I’m in San Diego, California! We even met at Guitar Center and you gave me the Gravity out of your pocket!! Love your show brother!!!
I love how nerdy you are about picks
Funny how the competition ends on my birthday. Love the videos, Rob. Keep making People's faces melt.
Well 373,357 subscribers.... Divided by 365, indicates that roughly 1022 of his base is in the same position. Don't feel special.
Coincidentally enough, I just ordered a couple Gravity picks last week to try them out, including your signature model. They should be in my mailbox when I get home tonight...
Rob, Did you know where you did the Chapman tour in San Francisco is only a few blocks away from Satch's guitar tech's, Gary Brawer, shop? Cool little shop, great guys, and great techs.
I got the notes. Now I gotta practice it!
A little Tip: set the video to 0.5 speed. That helps a lot (with every other song as well)
And I wanna see that bath too!
I'm not sure I'm a fan of using the room mic for the guitar, I much prefer the mic straight up against the speaker. Sounds much richer and less tinny.
Cool guitar. Cool picks. Cool riff. Now, if would just bathe in them picks... Do it, Chappers. Do it!!!
I've been shaping my picks on the carpet ever since I can remember. Everybody I've ever brought it up to thought it was dumb.
"... never found the right kind of stiffness..."
hahaahahaaha :D
Just bought the variety pack of there website can't way to try them. Thanks for the advice
Well, i MUST ask you to make the "I bathe in picks" video !
I'd go into a guitar store with the sole purpose to buy 30 plectrum and expect to pay around $20-$25, maybe a little twice that if I wanted a novelty case. I sure as hell wouldn't expect to pay over $200, hand made or not. I've played with Dunlop Tortex 1.5mm pics, or similar by another brand, for years and I've still got a load left that have been well used and worn but not lost their shape from years ago and they're still fine. I've lost a hell of a lot more Dunlop pics than I have worn any out, in fact I've never worn any out, and I think it's safe to say that a hell of a lot more people buy pics because they've lost them rather than wore them out... What if you lose most of the 30 Gravity pics, are people really going to spend another $200 (or British pounds) on another set or does the name "Gravity" have something to do with it, do they use some sort gravitational pull to get back to you if you lose them?... And, talks about strings being expensive to replace... Really...
I thoroughly enjoy watching your vids and I sure as hell think you're a great guy, Rob but sorry, I'll pass. The 'Bath of Pics' idea is epic though, it must be one of the things 'to do in life' at least once! :D
Sharp picks are great! I'm using Dunlop Ultex, but they wear out pretty fast. Would love to try Gravity picks, but i don't have facebook, so i cant join in on this competition. But i've played for 4 months only, so i wouldnt stand a chance anyway. Guess ill buy a few Gravity picks one day, and try them out.
think its really cool that your doing this, and incorporating teaching
I already have my pick figured out! Jim Dunlop jazz 1 pick (black color)! They are small and very hard and not too soft! If I'm playing fast solos, I can't use soft and big picks! Meh, might as well enter this competition just for a chance to keep the picks as a collection!
These things are so cool. I would like to get a few Rob.
hey Rob! I'm really trying to improve my picking and I tried a lot of picks because I can't seem to find the right one. do you have tips for me? I'm really in to blues and I think I could improve my playing by finding the right pick because I struggle with fast playing because the picks are like slipping of the strings sometimes. I never tried the gravity picks but the look and, how you play, the sound amazing. maybe those would help me out! Anyway, I really enjoy your and the captain's work. You guys are awesome. I'm looking forward to the next videos!
im gonna buy my first real expensive guitar from riff city and its gonna be a ghost fret natural color! super excited man keep doing what your doing your great
I thought you were just saying they were good. Then I tried them! I'm a sunrise man now 3mm.
I only have two though. Love to get my hands on that box.
Are they glow in the dark? They look like it! I Dunlops are my picks! The tortoise ones!
Sweet - I'm gradually learning to use picks mostly to expand my playing style (I started as a classical player and still prefer my fingers). I'm still trying to find one I like but for the moment favor the Dunlop Tortex .60. Anyway - If I don't win the box I may see if the local music shop has them and give them a try. :-)
I was skeptical, especially at $6.00 each, but damn...your signature pick may just be the one I have been looking for.
I won't enter the contest Rob, instead I bought two of your signature picks. One for each guitar I own (An Epiphone SG G400 Pro, and a Fender CD60-ce acoustic). Btw, I love my SG... those guitars are workhorses in my opinion.
So yeah, since you've been raving about these picks for as long as I watch your videos and it was about time to order some to try. I hope i'll enjoy using them as much as you have. Can't wait for them to arrive from the UK retailer!
In any case: If a guitarist can't find a single pick than he doesn't have enough picks, as a pick should be in every nook and cranny and then some more. ;)
cool riff @Rob Chapman However I liked the slow version better than the fast one, something about being able to track the notes in stead of it being a kind of a blur
Hey Rob, is there any chance we'll be getting an offset body shape Chapman guitar in the future? If you'd release a jazzmaster style guitar I'd pick it up for sure.
man that SG looks good in the back ground.
I adore my Gravity's although it becomes expensive when too many of them disappear into the void under the studio sofa.
+rob chapman when did you go to the guitar institute? Was it when it was at Wapping? I went and did Shawn Baxters Rock 1&2 in '96/97.. Dave K was teaching then and even did some of my classes too.
Even though my chances of winning are slim, It's really cool and fun doing this. It's almost like looking into the mind of Rob Chapman and how he goes about writing riffs and music. It's kind of exciting!
I'll try getting that sweet riff down but I'm preeettyyyyy sure we all want to see you in a bath tub full with guitar picks :D
couldn't find the original comment so.. The cobalt are a lot slicker. they tune way better if you take your time to properly stretch them. and the set that I've been playing daily for the last month or so still sound great. I am partial to D drop C, but they play good in standard
A UA-cam video describing a video competition which cannot be entered via UA-cam: bad form.
Thankfully, I am completely in love with Dunlop Big Stubby 3mm picks (they go nicely with D'Addario EXL115BT strings).
i just keep hearing "work them ears" on loop.......
i would like to try the 3.0 triangle picks the dunlop big stubby 3.0 is great. i wonder how the gravity measures up.
When is the winner announced?
I simply got sick of breaking the soft picks that everyone starts with and switched to 2mm Dunlop gator grip. I love them, now instead of breaking picks, I play them until the point is gone.
this durability praise is largely what Glenn Fricker says about Chicken Picks. Have you tried those? And if so, how do they compare?
