Gigabyte's RX 5700 XT Gaming OC 8G model is a really cool card (temperature-wise), but it's a bit on the louder side for my taste, so I've used a little bit of undervolting to make even better. 😁 Any of you here practice undervolting rather than overclocking?

This is a fantastic video. Did you run into any issues using MSI afterburner with the 5700XT? I originally used afterburner with my Power Color Dual Fan 5700XT and it would cause my screen to flicker until I turned it off. I am guessing that was a BIOS issue with the card because even with the newest drivers, the flickering never seemed to go away until I switched from Afterburner to using AMD's overclocking/undervolting utility(Andrenline I think?) used to be called wattman.

No problem, thanks for watching! This is was the best I could do for this particular sample, this was a combination of OC and undervolt, you could probably bump it up a bit core clock wise, but it's not worth it in my opinion as it then pulls everything else with it (noise, temps...)

Question; have you found that the RADEON SPOFTWARE gives bad information for the APP?
I play a game called SPACE ENGINEERS and on my 11 year old system it worked but at times froze, so it pushed me over the edge to build a new system.

When I load this game and open the RADEON Software it tells me the GPU goes to 90-100% and my temps FLIP to about 82deg and especially my VRAM goes to about 92%. somewhere in this the games freezes and returns me to my desktop.

It's funny really. In the past GPUs would often come with headroom to spare. Manufacturers wouldn't overclock to the max because they left it up to the consumers. The GTX 900 series is the earliest example of that, gaining massively from overclocking. Now, cards (AMD at least) are coming overclocked too high (in my opinion) and benefit greatly from underclocking. I feel like the overclocks that come from the factory are purely to look better in FPS charts and to separate different SKUs for retail.

The 5700 xt since launch has left the 2060S in the dust. Price/performance there is no contest. Unless you want RayTracing or DLSS, go for team Red. I had 2 issues with mine, one was thanks to some remnants of Nvidia drivers, after DDU(solved), and the other is the Afterburner settings not sticking sometimes. But it's a beast...

My tests on a 5700 XT Red Devil
Every 100 MHz real core clock increase = 3 fps more
Memory is stable at 940/1880 MHz.
1.2V, I can set it to 2070, with average clocks at 2010-2015 MHz.
At 1.125V, I set it to 2001, with average clocks at 1930 MHz (+50% Power Limit). Without power limit, it hovers 1850-1900.
For 1800 MHz, I can set it at 0.86V, hovers at 1680-1750 MHz.
Didn't try to find out stable voltage for just setting 1900 MHz.
To keep in mind: Just like Vega, Navi is limited by temperature.
Reference design hovers at 1780 MHz
Most 3rd party OEM design hover at 1900-1950.
High end models hover at 2000-2050.
Water cooled, you can do 2150 clocks at 1.2V
Modded, card can do 2420 clocks. If you find a way to preserve a temperature for the VRAM and use L2 just for the core, 2500+ clocks are achievable (that's only for Overclocking championships though)
Easiest way to lower power usage is to just lower Power Delivery.

You have your MSI AB not sticking sometimes? Me too. After a boot it's usually fine, or a restart/reset of AB. But in some games the stock clocks/voltage and even fan curve return, and things get way hot. Mind you, the Radeon software doesn't fare any better in regards to driver level tweaking. I guess it'll sort itself out with updates.
