Just got the recent barn find 79 Ironhead on the lift and going over the list of things to check

Trying to get my grandfathers bike up and running. I think something is wrong with the generator. But tried to start it, it cranks, but the the negative terminal started sparking. Gonna go through the wiring to make sure there isn’t a short

I own one & new to all of this on Harley & can't afford a manual for right now.
