Prismacolor Color Combinations [Crazy 3 Color Blends]

- In last week’s video I gave you some Prismacolor blending tips and started coloring a free Autumn coloring page (see link below.) As I continued to color the leaves on this page I began to experiment with some fun Prismacolor color combinations that I wanted to share with you. In fact, I even had Steve create a color combinations swatch chart for you to download so you can also play with putting together your own Prismacolor combinations.
I recommend starting with 3 color blends of light, medium and dark colors. Then, use my rule of thirds blending technique to bring together these three colors into a seamless and (hopefully) beautiful gradient of color. In this video you will see me randomly pick 3 colors from my Prismacolor Premier 150 colored pencils set; swatch them on my new color catalog chart; and finally color an autumn leaf using this new Prismacolor color combination.

Adorable designs
As a rule of thumb, I've always been told "warm subject, cool shadows; cool subject, warm shadows," and I think you've got the same concept going with the complimentary color as either the highlight or the shadow color.

Thanks for this video. As always they are very much appreciated. I think my absolute favorite blend is the leaf up and to the right of the deep maroon/ magenta leaf. It has the bright greens, oranges and yellows its just gorgeous how the colors blended. I think the purple leave ( the muted purple) is awesome too and Im usually not a purple fan.. I know.. I know.. you LOVE your purples lol. Anywho, thanks agian. Have a great evening!

Love your tips. I can't afford good pencils so I'm not great with them, which is why I want to win those pencils.
I mostly use gel pens. My latest favorite combo is purple and red. It's more a combo than a blend. I've used it in lots of pics including my current wip. I'll post some pics on the fb page. It's a great pair believe it or not.

Thank you for the new tri-blend swatch sheet. I have the Prismacolor book but haven't filled it in yet. I do appreciate the blends you have shared. I would like to make a request while I'm here. I would like to know your opinion of the Schpirerr Farben colored pencils. I have the full set and I really do like them, but I would like to know what you think. If you would....???
I noticed that you have some other charts in your pencil case, do you have any videos explaining what those are?
The paper you suggested for pencils, can it be used for wet medias or no? What's the best paper for mixed medias. Wet and dry .
Jennifer, maybe I missed the video for the "jump into fall" page that you colored...but how did you create the back ground...distress inks and paint? If there is a video, let me know ;-)
Thank you for your videos. Question - you link in the description to Springhill 80lb 175g/m2 paper as your favorite. However, you also link to the coloring paper review video where you recommend the Springhill 67lb 147 g/m2 paper as the preferred one to use. I see the same references on your website. I’m looking for a paper to do digital prints of coloring pages, use my pencil crayons and maybe some inks. Which would you recommend?

If you went over the blends with blending fluid, would that make mud?
By "blending fluid," I assume you mean something like mineral spirits? I have used that on colored pencil before, it basically just breaks down the binder in the pigment and makes the pencil "smoother." I don't think you'd make mud easily, it doesn't move the pencil that much. I'd think you'd have to work at it for that.
We didn't see your hands floating around the screen, quite enough. 😂. Can you swirl & twirl them around a little more, possibly, maybe? Also, the book we've kept our thoughts in, for how many years now, is called a journal or planner, aaaaaand finally, you're not the only colorist to use 3 or more colors, so how'd it become your rule?
