Great explanation. You explained for the first time clearly that SAP to begin with was for all databases and used used the database interface to use ABAP called as Open sql to be able to use it on all databases. Now the switch is to HANA and so people who have been using other databases are not going to remove them.... So ABAP continues and SAP is writing more and more functions to be used as stored-procedures etc for ABAP CDS but for native i.e only hANA database where native application needing no further compilation on XSA-Advanced server. Here you can use Javascript, Java or Python or whatever (almost) but ABAP is for your existing SAP objects on Netweaver platform. I think there is no room for ABAP on Hana native or maybe I am wrong
ABAP created for Application layer It will be there since most of the SAP code in ABAP. They have SQL Script for HANA DB.

In the future, SAP will drop SAP GUI as a development tool. They are adopting eclipse(ADT) and they want to create all new features in Eclipse only ...

No point in debugging the view. It is executed as a single statement on the Database. If you can analyze the view using plan viz :- community.sap.com/t5/enterprise-resource-planning-blogs-by-members/planviz-analysis-on-cds-views/ba-p/13411396
