I don't know a lot about the Superstar line, but them being birch instead of maple back in the 80's makes sense. Back then, maple was not really put on intermediate kits because it was considered really high-end material. Nowadays, apparently because of easier sourcing from Asian maples, and even North American maples, they're using it on a lot of Intermediate kits, and have been for 10 years or so. That's been my experience anyway, just my O2
@@ruifaustino I totally agree with you. I don't think one is better than the other. I think birch is just cheaper to source. I dont really think so. Their price is almost the same and the sound the yamahas produce are nothing but cheap. If anything its a very rich and articulate one. Just beacause maple drums are the norm right now doesnt mean they are the only ones that produce the "good" sound. The stands, the mounting mechanism and the wood cutting and work on the yamahas are on the high end side and are very well made and sturdy. After some months i got to play on the superstars too but i would prefer the sound of the birth stage custom over then superstars. So imo they are totally comparable and depending on preference yammies can win easily.

@@erictorres4889 I'm sorry but I have object, these are certainly capable drums but they are mid level drums in construction and materials. Bass drum Spurs look thin and spindly weak.
Dennis Rivenburg I’ve owned this kit for close to a year and a half. Trust me, they’re sturdy!
Does anyone know if this kit is available for purchase yet? I can't find this pack with these dimensions for sale.
Matt Kuhr yes!
Very nice sounding kit
What should you buy, this or Pearl decade?
Either or pearl is just as good as tama if you got the tama you wouldn’t be disappointed if you get the pearl you wouldn’t be disappointed they are the best for a reason
Is it annoying having the toms moving so much when hitting them?
They do that so it resonates more nothing wrong with it
Help me choose this Tama or the Yamaha stage custom?
Tama over Yamaha definitely
How is the attack? Is it alot?
Yes yes and yes
impressive sound with stock heads....
Would it be better to pick this kit over the yamaha stage custom?
Superstars are better then Yamaha I can’t even believe your even asking
I dont really think so. Their price is almost the same and the sound the yamahas produce are nothing but cheap. If anything its a very rich and articulate one. Just beacause maple drums are the norm right now doesnt mean they are the only ones that produce the "good" sound. The stands, the mounting mechanism and the wood cutting and work on the yamahas are on the high end side and are very well made and sturdy. After some months i got to play on the superstars too but i would prefer the sound of the birth stage custom over then superstars. So imo they are totally comparable and depending on preference yammies can win easily.
Vsauce?
Ben Clower lol
Does sound amazing 😍 thinking of this or the Yamaha stage custom. what’s better?
Jords I would go Yamaha all the way dude it’s a great kit
@@gordon8441 please elaborate why??
@@timevett6761 thank u. I keep reading how great they are. my last set as a teenager were the good ol powr' toms lol. Im concerned that todays smaller toms will lack the deep powr tom sound that we all love.
The Yamaha stage custom for sure
depends on if you like maple better than birch..
I wish you guys would use some muffling, so we could see the different tonal options
I think giving the toms a good Ambassador head on both sides would really bring out how good they are. Nice kit for the price!
Great review, honest and in depth. Easily one of the most informative and comprehensive of all the review channels and not afraid to point out flaws or dissapointments to the consumer, but in a way that shouldn't offend the brands you are working with.
Having already looked at a number of the kits in the 'intermediate' section of the market it would be great to see a review of the Gretsch Catalina Maple to round out this competitive and important area that is such a staple for students progression.
Thanks for such a good channel.
Even the those aren’t for students there pro drums at entry level price points
@@erictorres4889 I'm sorry but I have object, these are certainly capable drums but they are mid level drums in construction and materials. No doubt they could be used in a studio setting in a limited capacity, and I'm saying this as a studio drummer, but they would not be considered a pro level kit in sound quality and construction quality as they would not stand up to the rigours of touring or studio work. They are soundly a mid level progression kit for those with a limited budget.
hey v-sauce, michael here
