Diagnosed in 1971 at age 10! Also started with glass syringes. Had 2 children with very few complications and now have 6 grandchildren. Thankful to my Mother who got me to good doctors from the very beginning even back then! Technology is amazing, have been on different pumps for over 20 years, now on Tandem and Dexcom which is a game changer. Before Dexcom I never really had an issue with finger sticks but it was so inconvenient and even testing 6x a day my blood sugar fluctuated a lot. Yeah science and technology!

I love when you have your mom on your channel. Y'all remind me of my daughter and myself. I've been type one for 34 years. My daughter has been type one for a year. Thanks so much for this interview.

I totally had the pin prick dots in my fingers before the Dexcom. I’m right handed and I only prick my left hand…never my right. It almost feels awkward and wrong when I try to prick my right hand. I usually only use my pinky or my ring finger too!

My wife wasn't diagnosed in the 70's, but she was diagnosed about 30 years ago as a type 2. Unfortunately she is now insulin dependent because she doesn't have too many beta cells left in her pancreas. But fortunately she did have a big turnaround when she started listening to people like Dr. Richard K. Bernstein (an 88 year old type 1 diabetic and doctor - one of the last of his generation), Dennis Pollock (also on UA-cam), Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Ahmet Argin (SugarMd on UA-cam), Dr. Sarah Hallberg (her May 4th, 2015 TED talk was a classic), and Dr. Robert Lustig (the foodgate video on UA-cam he did with others - another classic). Anyway, my wife's feet and eyes are much better!

Thank you Sarah’s Mom. You deserve a medal for all you’ve achieved in spite of Diabetes. Are your numbers mostly stable?

T1D 61yrs I was diagnosed in 1962 we did not have disposable syringes. I used a glass syringe , kept it in a jar of alcohol. In 1979 I started to do finger sticks. After a few years I only poked my thumbs. Until the Dexcom G4 came out. I love the technology we have today.

Thanks for having your Mom on. She is an inspiration to those of us “newer” diabetics. LOL I was diagnosed in 1991 at the age of 24, used NPH and R insulin, and only used my left hand to finger stick (it bleeds better than my right hand). Having had this disease for over 30 years I am thankful for the technology that is available (I use the Dexcom G6 and the Tandem TSlim X2 with CIQ and although the perfect days are few and far between the technology sure helps things stay more on target. Thank you for your channel. It always brightens my day.
