  • In this video, Dr Louise talks about bleeding in menopause, including when taking HRT.
Bleeding can be very common and is actually one of the top reasons for women to stop taking HRT. However, for most women the cause of bleeding is related to the dose and/or type of HRT and not an underlying condition.

Thank you so much for explaining the hyperplasia and bleeding.
So many women seem to be getting referred for hysteroscopies from having some bleeding while on HRT, and being told by their GP to stop taking HRT.
I know it's an automatic referral for the bleeding, and it's also normal to get some endometrial growth from oestradiol. It's finding the balance so that women and GPs aren't unduly panicked 😊xx

Thank you - this was very helpful. My GP advised that if I changed from cyclic progesterone to continuous and then had a single bleed I would automatically have to go back to cyclic for 6 months. Now I understand that may not be the case. It gives me more confidence to start continuous at my next check.

Thank you Dr Louise, this has really helped. I had bleeding on the conti patch, had investigated and all okay and now on the bio identical progesterone and oestragel. I have to wait 6months for HRT clinic appointment, still waiting. Also the dr advised I may be better just taking anti depressants, as HRT doesn’t work for everyone, I’m not depressed. It’s ridiculous but thanks to you we have some support xx

I really wish we had a way to capture hormonal levels accurately. Women going through perimenopause need support but here in the US no one will give you HRT unless you 1) have surgical menopause or 2) stop having periods for an entire YEAR. I’m not even kidding, that is the standard practice, suffering a whole year with no hormones.

Thank you Dr. Newson, a very thorough overview of all types of bleeding with HRT. I started on Evorel Conti in November 2023 and a month later I had period like bleeding that kept repeating every week to 10 days and would last for a whole week or even more. In January I cut the patches into half and been using half a patch ( couldn’t get appointment with GP!) and that stopped the bleeding as well as still managed my symptoms; but 5 days ago (beginning of March 2024) I started period type bleeding agin and it is still going 😬 I am due to talk to a GP next week, and hopefully she can advise me. 🙏🏻 sorry for this long history but it is very concerning specially when the GP doesn’t get back to you and you don’t know how serious the situation is! Many thanks 🙏🏻

Interestingly recently, ive met women who are due for a mirena coil change at 5-6 years. They have been advised it can be left for 8 years!

You’re the best Dr I have seen so far, I watched all your videos, very informative and reduce my anxiety big times because my dr didn’t explain anything to me when she prescribed HRT

Thank you so much for this. it is very helpful and reassuring. I just added estrogen and testosterone to my progesterone about 6 weeks ago, and after a few chaotic days where I missed a couple of pills, I am having bleeding.

I feel slightly less panicked now. I had some bleeding a couple of weeks ago whilst on holiday is Spain. Went to the GP as soon as I got home and have been referred under the 2 week rule. However, looking back, I did miss some doses of Utrogesten and I was rubbing sun cream on my arm where I'd applied my Lenzetto spray so I'm hoping this upset in dosages is the reason for the bleeding 🤞🏻

Would you mind explaining why, apparently, Tamoxifen can have a role in exacerbating hyperplasia and risk of it evolving into endometrial cancer?

Thank you this has been very helpful. I very occasionally bleed and am holiday at the moment with a 7 hour time difference which seems to have caused prolonged leading this month which has worried me. Also I take progesterone for 25 days on and 3 days off but this hasn’t been mentioned here and I’m wondering if I should take it continuously? I’ve been on HRT for 2 years now (started it after 8 years of menopause and no periods for 8 years).

I have the opposite issue. I haven't had a period for 70 days. Taking oestrogel and utrogestan for 2 weeks on 2 weeks off but still have not had a period. Is this normal? I am concerned the lining is not shedding.

Thank you for this! I'm postmenopausal and taking HRT for 2 months. I am having bleeding so my provider increased my progesterone from 100mg to 200mg. The bleeding has slowed but how does it take to completely stop?

Iv been using the oral utrogestan vaginaly (off licence) 100mg continuously (post menopause) my question is should I only be using the vaginal pessary? Or is it ok for me to take it this way?

I wonder if continuous hrt would help fibroids. I've had awful bleeding, a resection of fibroid but it's grown back, I'm not on hrt at 51 years old. I'm waiting on hysterectomy now, I want a definitive solution. 😢

Why is the continuous progesterone licensed for 25 days a month? What is the evidence behind it? Are there actual physical benefits to doing this?
Or is it based on women must bleed (for this or that societal reason)?
I'd like to know what the thinking is behind it 😊xx

    • @Julie-netball
      @Julie-netball 3 місяці тому +1

Yes this is confusing. I believe it's given daily when prescribed continuously.

@@Julie-netball yes, I'm taking it continuously at the moment. I'd like to know the history of the 25 day recommendation, in case there's a genuine clinical reason for it, like receptor fatigue* or something

No offense, but there are so many "herb doctors" around that are afraid of bodyidentical hormones that you will surely find plenty of infos on their channels...
