Jump Rope Sizing from Crossrope
This video will provide some guidance on how to choose a jump rope that is the correct size for you. Without a doubt, jump rope sizing is important. If your jump rope is too short, you will trip up which will lead to frustration. On the other hand, if you rope is too long, it may strike the ground too early causing you to trip up.

LOL same
The teeth sucking did it for me.
WTF does he mean? Ohhhhh 😱🤣!
LOL... He heard the audio and straight up said, "I ain't reshooting this we're going with it"
Im 5'4 took Crossrope's advice and bought the small size rope..turned out to be a bit short for me...medium size is just right 👍🏻
As a general advice: if youre between sizes, always buy the longer rope..you can tie a knot in a long rope, but you cant make a short rope longer...learned that the hard way 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you just what I needed
Can’t tie knots in 1/4 or 1/2lb ropes … I’m 5ft 11” my new ropes really feel long for me
@@albertbell7120 sure you can? I got the 9 feet rope at 6'0 and tie a knot in each of these ropes. I even tie a knot in my 1lb rope
Do these ropes make more noise than regular ropes when hitting the ground?
I live in a first floor apartment idk if my neighbor would hear me.
The heavier the rope, the higher the clunk sound, yes. But if you jump on a mat it'll be fine I would think@@roninwarrior216
What I gathered from your video was.
1. Depending on the rope length. We'll have to adjust the technique to adapt to the length.
2. The placement of the hand. Width, height, left- right balance or front / back affects how the rope hits the ground n under the feet.
3. The key is to practice to be consistent or adapt based on rope length.
4. So if I'm a beginner or want to stick to only a certain technique. I can either buy a cheaper rope n practice my technique first before I get my cross rope. Or I can just buy a longer cross rope.
I tried today n paid attention to the form of my rope. And where it strikes the ground n how it cross under my feet. Keeping it consistent. It feels so much better. So much easier to keep going without getting tired. I used to think it's the rope problem or it's just too short. Causing the tripping.
Your sizing video teaches more about jump type technique than many videos. I'll be getting my cross rope soon.
Thank you.
Finally the recommendation for new and beginner jumpers at 11:17 in the video. However I encourage anyone to watch the WHOLE video, very informative.
Agreed, get to the point. This video is twice as long as it needs to be.
Ahhhhhhh…..technique depends on rope length. Wider arms with a longer length rope. Closer to the body, hip length shorter rope!
I’m a beginner and this sizing video was PERFECT! Thank you JRD
Hehe, I agree. It's a good video. Just wanted to point out that you said thanks "JRD", this video is from the owner of Crossrope himself, not the jump rope dudes who are sponsored by Crossrope :D
Came here after receiving my 1st order from Crossrope. Im 6'1" and the recommended (L) large 9ft rope is WAY too long. I haven't jumped rope in 20 years but already I can't approach anything close to good form with this length. Really wish I'd taken exact measurements rather than following the sizing range (which I was at the upper edge of already for L, bordering on XL!) and being disappointed after 2 weeks shipping wait.
God bless them for leaving that unexpected but glorious audio gold
I'm 5' 5" and got the medium, and it was a tad too long. But a knot on each end made it just perfect.

@@roninwarrior216 I think you will be fine with a mat
I found this video very informative. Thanks.
It seems a lot of people don’t like the idea of investing just over 13 mins in the concept of jump rump sizing and presumably after doing so they still don’t understand... if you are a beginner just starting out follow the size chart.
As a general rule the more proficient you are the shorter your rope should be (a shorter rope is faster and more efficient however you have much less margin for error) so typically I’m 5.11-6FT tall and I use a size S for the heavier ropes DUs and fast speed sessions and a size M (1/4 Lb and 1/2 LB) for general fitness which would include some freestyle.
I also have 9ft long handled 4mm PVC and 5mm short handled ropes which I use exclusively for freestyle. (I can tweek them by tying knots in them).
So like he says in the video there is no one size does all just depends what your doing with the rope and how proficient you are.
If it wasn't for your comment I would have tried to skip through as well lol. Thanks for encouraging me to watch it. It was helpfull indeed!
Got me my Crossropes cause of Jump Rope Dudes. Very happy with them.😃🤘
This was so helpful I’m a beginner jumper with some past experience as a child but I think my hand placement has everything to do with the arch of my ropes

great explanation TY! just got my cross rope and can't wait to start using it.
how are you liking your ropes? Have heard a lot of runners say that it has helped their run times. Have you experienced that?
Very helpful video! Wish you would have talked about the xl rope as well though
GREAT VIDEO.
I'm 71 years old a former competing athlete and Holistic Health Consultant. I love jumping rope. I'm a beginner and had to chill because of knee discomforts derived from sneakers that needed to be replaced. I'm starting again and ordering the 9ft rope because I'm 5' 11".
Have you considered doing Senior Citizen discounts with age verification of course? I must lose about 15+ pounds and love being in shape. I'm easily mistaken for being 45 to 50 years old.
hoka clifton 7 or 8 very soft. I can even practice on asphalt in them.
What it tells me is that I ordered the wrong size by using the chart on your Crossrope page.
Based on your chart, as a 5'11" person, I ordered Large. Based on this video, I have now come to the realization that I should have ordered the medium. Now I have to wait for the package to arrive on Sunday, send it back while at the same time ordering the Medium length ropes.
Such a waste of time.
Can’t decide what size to order as well.
I'm 5'11 too and I just got my large ropes today. I tried them once but they were way too long. I'm going to return them for the medium length

I'm 5'4.5" experienced, deciding between Small & Medium is a real task.
If you have good form, definitely get the small
I am the same height. I am not an experienced jumper. I just received my Crossropes today & I feel that the medium is to long. I will try some of his technique adjustments before returning.
@@kimshivonne Thank you so much for this, I'm definitely going for Small now
I wish you all did this vid with a few jumpers of different heights. But seeing you use the 8' rope let's me know I could do the same despite being in the the 8.5' recommended range. I do wonder if I could use the 7.5' rope though since I keep my hands low & tight. The return/exchange policy helps.
If,your new to jumping rope a very serious problem can occur. Your acillies tendon can can go out without tearing. Be mindful of the possibility because there's no initial pain. You just suddenly can't walk. Also just run a risk if you do calf raises and jump rope, you're placing an enormous amount of stress on the gastro and soleous. So pick one., this info is from kinesiology and PT's.
Very happy with my crossrope, but I have a question. I am 5'11''. I went with the chart and got the Large (6') Get Strong set. I find when I put a knot in the rope it shortens to 8' 2'' and I find it much easier and much more stable to jump (I am not a beginner). At full length, the 1lb rope is harder to control, I'm less stable and have to work hard to keep control. Is the full length a better work out because it is harder to control? Is shortening the rope just an easier way to go faster? You say that it is 'more efficient', which suggests you use less energy, or are their physical benefits to having a shorter rope? I'm wondering if I need the medium (8' 6'').
Med will be fine I am 5'11" and switched from large to Med. if I was trying for speed on double unders, I might even try small. Still a novice so I will stick with my mediums for now. Shorter ropes require good form. Longer ropes give more rope for crosses and other moves.
@@advmoto8203 In the end I got the medium and like it more.
I'm 1.89m tall (I'm from Italy) and I'm not that experienced at jumping rope, shuold I buy a large(1.77m-1.87m) or an extra large(1.88m-2.06m) jump rope?
Did you buy one?
I am 6ft 3 and have been jumping for 2 weeks with a short rope. I can criss Cross and double under. What size rope should I buy?

I live in a first floor apartment idk if my neighbor would hear me.
@@roninwarrior216 It depends on two things: The heavier the rope, the louder it will be. However, the make or material of the surface you are jumping over can also reduce the noise (being more absorbant) or increase (hollow or thin surface).
5:00 lmao!! I'm 5'2" and was annoyed by the 8 foot rope tripping on it thinking it was short and here he goes at 6 feet 😓😯😯

Hi, I'm thinking is the heavy rope equal to wear those weight bands on the foot and wrist? any suggestions? thanks
The best instructional video I've seen so far, thank you.
also does the 1/2 pound rope work your back because im thinking on getting the lean set but i want a rope to work the back
to a degree it will, but also throw in some back exercises like body weight rows, etc.
ok so if your 6ft im 5 ft 10/11 so the 8 ft 6inh rope would work for me as well? im a beginner so i ordered off of the chart and got a large?
Great video. I want to buy one of "strength" rope but issue is im 5'4"! Lol... so which do i buy the Small or the Medium?
get the small
I’m 5’5 and I got the medium. It’s slightly long but I rather have room to make less mistakes. I think the small would be a little too short. What size did you end up getting?
Thanks for this information I am 5'7" and My rope is 7'4"I am an inexperienced jumper and kept tripping up after 2 to 5 spin, I was getting frustrated and was ready to give up, now thinking maybe an 8'6" inch or 9'0" will help me to move on and improve my jump rope skills.

I ordered Large and I'm 5'11 and this thing is too big for me. On the website it said it was perfect
SP FromNY914 at 6’2 they recommend I buy an xl rope, but I was concerned right off the bat that would be too long. Now after watching this video I m even debating on going down to the medium size. Sounds like if you have any jump rope experience or are a fast learner you probably want to shorten it up.
Don't get the 9ft. You should be deciding between the medium (8ft6) or small (8ft)
@@prince_sach50 iv done the same I’m also 5ft 11” wishing I had ordered 8ft 6” long rope
So exciting. i am considering buying the lean set. I am 175 cm and my current jump rope is 2.54m between handles which is quite comfortable for me. Should i buy the Medium size or Small? Thank you in advanced.
I'm really looking into getting a Crossrope set even if shipping to Germany adds 30 bucks to the bill. But I think a set of one light and one heavy rope would be the best way to go. Is there a reason for not offering a set like this? There was one with the first gen cross ropes, right?
Yes, that's right! You can get it here: www.crossrope.com/products/first-gen-crossrope/starter-jump-rope-set
Vary helpfull and good info!
I’m 5.8 and I should be getting the medium according to your chart but it’s out of stock in my country’s Amazon. Can I go with the large for my height?
I'm 5'10 and I use a 10 foot jumprope (crossrope). I hate short jumpropes because when you try to do crossovers and other tricks the jumprope shortens. Don't listen to their recommendations they are too short IMO. Don't believe me? Go watch Mayweather jumprope and check out how long his rope is.
I’m 6’2 with 8foot ceilings, would I be able to do this indoors ?
Sir the ropes full set is too expensive in india that 17000 we will get other rope at 1000 max 2000 plzz do some thing for that
Hello, I just order the get lean rope set a while ago. I'm pretty new to jump rope. I have been jumping rope for a month now. I'm wondering if their would be a way to resize the rope myself. I'm only 158 cm. tall so I ordered the shortest rope (S). If in the future, I would like to make it shorter, will that be possible to do it on my own?
You can shorten the rope by tying a loose knot on one or both sides, as needed. 4/5 inches down from the handles. I did that with mine. It does make a difference & it won't hurt the rope. I have a cr set also. Hope that helps.
do you have to buy the thicker handles for the heavier ropes? Or will the slim handles work just fine?
The Get Lean handles (thinner ones) Will only work for the 1/4 lbs & 1/2 lbs ropes. The thicker handles are for the 1 lbs & 2 lbs ropes.
kevo598 Finally, the answer I was looking for. Thanks
Thanks!
Well let me ask you this if you order one of the crossrope jumping sets from the actual website aren't they one-size-fits-all generally speaking? Or are you required to give your particular height and weight measurements? If I order one of these damn things and it's too big or too small for me then what? LOL
Hello!! I just bought a brand new crossrope size Large. I am a beginner jumper and my height is 175cm. Is size large okay for my height or should I change it to Medium ? Thank you!!
Can you advise me which size of the rope get lean is suitable for a person with a height of 176 cm?
Whats up with he camera person. Get a tripod. HOLD STILL
the stupid gimbal he is using is making all of those unnecessary movements lol
It was shot at sea.
Is large good for 5'9"?
That's what I'm getting is the 9 ft ropes or large because I'm 5 ft 9 in tall myself that way you can hold the handles either way in close or out for better control !!
@@jeffreyelliott622 hm.. let me know how it goes! I want to know your opinion. ^_^

Hi I'm 5' 3.5" tall. Right on the line for the S that I ordered. Do I need to exchange it for the M? I've noticed that I'm tripping up and was wondering if it was because I needed to size up.

I’m not sure that I’m skilled enough to answer, and I’m sure it depends on your personal form. But my crossrope arrived today and I got a chance to test it out this evening. I’m 5’9” so I ordered the large and it felt like it was a little too long for me. In the morning I’m going to measure it compared to the cheap one I’ve been using and see how it feels for my morning exercise. I have a feeling that I’ll end up exchanging the large for a medium.
Just an update, I was only 3 inches shorter with my speed rope than my cross rope. With a bit of practice, I’m comfortable with the large size. Either way, they have a 60 day money back guarantee so I’d pull the trigger on one and give it a week of practice before you make a decision about changing rope size. I think I could use the medium or large and I bet I’d be happy with either one. Honestly try it for a week and you will be amazed at how much better you feel. At this point, losing the weight will just be a bonus.
Also, check out jump rope dudes on UA-cam. They’re really great and I like their energy and simple strategies
Thanks Seth.
Hi, i was thinking to get a get lean infinity set but with an extra 1 lb rope. Can the get lean slim handles connect to a 1 lb rope? Or do i need to purchase a power rope for that?
Hi there! Though they are compatible, the weight of the rope may cause too much strain on your wrists and the handles.
One question I have is the sizing chart when you order rope length at cross rope, alot of people are sending back for shorter, also putting knots in, which cannot be good for cables?
You can put knots in your ropes so long as you remove them after use. This should not cause any long term damage.
Can I use the lean set handles with the power set?
The infinity handles are only compatible with the infinity ropes.
My rope was 8’6 but I found that I was over jumping. When recording myself jumping I saw that I was going about 5-6 in off the ground. Is this typical? I shortened to an 8 ft rope and found that I jump a lot closer to the ground under 3in.
I’m 5’7
only need to jump 1- 2 inches. 6-8 inches for doubles.
Hi. I have just purchased my new 2 and 3 lbs. Crossrope Jump ropes last month with the performance handles. One handle is making a clicking sound while I'm skipping with the ropes. I tried lubricating the handles where I assume the bearings are right at the end where the metal part is and the loops with a spray industrial all purpose equipment lubricant but it's still clicking while I'm using it. Is there a way to fix this?? Thanks.
Anybody 5'9.5" and have the medium? Thoughts? I feel like if he has the small size and is 6' I should be fine right?
I sort of have the same question. I’m the same height. My old one was 8 feet. But I bought the medium yesterday. Did I make the right choice?

Which size did you choose guys, small been alright?
Helpful video , but I cant surely size my speedrope :( and cuz I want to cut it , i dont know where to cut
less is more! get it to the general armpit/ upper chest level and then gradually shorten from there. test before cutting because you can't put it back together. note: there will be a new getting used to the new length period and more tripping will be expected. the shorter the rope the less room for error, but you will adjust with practice.
But how do you actually cut it? Where do you open etc? Help??
