    I now know which printer to purchase after this great review. I was between the HP and Epson, and the Epson won for me. Thank you. The Econ tanks are nice but I do need a printer that can also provide duplex scanning with the auto feeder and I think the Epson can also do that.

    Good review, thank you. There is one thing you did not mention but most reviewers don't either. However it is important to me, and that is duplex printing. Definitions seem to vary especially when talking about auto-duplex or full-duplex. If the printer will print on both sides without any intervention from me, I would consider that full or auto duplex. If I have to print on one side and manually flip the paper, I don't consider that duplex at all; yet some reviewers call that duplex. How do these printers handle printing on both sides of the paper? Specifics please. Thanks.

    Thank you for a very good and very fair comparison. My current Canon Pixma MG6320 takes an incredibly long time to start printing, especially when the AirPrint is switching from my iMac or my iPad. The software keeps restarting over and over again for several minutes. Last time it must have been 10 minutes total. Hopefully this is not an issue with their latest line of printers.

    Thank you for your video, the review is very helpful. I was looking to some reviews because I want to change my old HP printer, specifically because of their very poor HP Instant Ink service. Maybe it's only the case here in Switzerland, but the service provided by their calling-center which I suppose it's the same worldwide was just awful. So I think I'll go for the Epson XP7100, because your review dedicated to this model was very convincing.

    Quite informative and I appreciate the side-by-side comparisons. I'm moving on from my HP-5660 after a more than 8-year reliable run, although the photo printing quality after a few prints left a lot to be desired. I'm a shutterbug and found I get better quality b/w prints through retailers and a local photography shop. Recently, my current printer quit printing in black. I've tried several troubleshooting procedures to no avail. Was told by a copier professional that it's more cost effective to buy a new one than to have the old one repaired. With that said, I'm leaning toward the XP-7100 EPSON. Any thought of doing an ink-jet vs laser printer video explanation/comparison?

    Does the Epson automatically open the paper catcher tray when you print from your computer or phone? My old Canon did. I loved my old Canon so when it finally crapped out after 10 years I wanted another one. I bought a Canon TR7500 series about 6 months ago and I'm ready to throw this thing out the window. It is slow, loud, and doesn't automatically open when I print something. I have to manually open that front display and pull the paper catcher out. Thanks!

    • @evandrinks
      @evandrinks  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, it does have an automatic output tray that will auto extend when printing. There is also a button on the display that allows you to retract the tray.

    • @chrisgraham2904
      @chrisgraham2904 2 роки тому +1

      Yes. The automatic power opening paper output tray extends on it's own before the printing process begins. This automatic feature is also great for knocking over your coffee or anything else that is in the path of the extending tray. Also, freaks out the cat when the printer comes to life on it's own and pushes its' tray out.

    What would you recommend for just plain old document printing? I don't know many people who are printing photos, at least not a lot of photos. I never had an Epson because they require 4 ink cartridges, which is ridiculous! If the other mfrs can have 2 ink wells for cartridges, Epson can do the same.

    • @evandrinks
      @evandrinks  3 роки тому +3

      I would highly recommend the Epson Workforce Pro EC-4040. It is taller than the printers shown in this video because it has an additional paper tray. I’ve had it for a few months, and it is a true Workforce. It can print at 24 pages per minute for both black and color. It is build better than some of the cheaper Workforce printers like the WF-2850. It does use 4 individual ink cartridges which will save you money over having two. In two cartridge printers, if you run out of yellow and still have a full magenta and cyan you will end up throwing away lots of ink. Epson used to have two cartridge printers back in the 1990s and early 2000s. The Epson Workforce Pro EC-4040 regularly sells for $179. I would suggest buying it from staples.com as they usually have additional coupons that can be applied. Have a great rest of your day!

    Hi. How would you compare this Epsom to Brother MFC J995DW ? Thanks for ur help!

    • @evandrinks
      @evandrinks  3 роки тому +3

      Well, I have never owned the Brother, but I can compare the printers specifications. The Epson is prints faster, and has a larger touchscreen. The ink is a little cheaper for the Brother. Brother leaves out some other specs on the product. The Epson has a 2-sided Auto Document feeder, which brother does not mention. The Epson also has a rear feeder, photo tray, and CD/DVD tray that the Brother does not include. The Brother does not have the additional photo black cartridge, so it may not produce as high quality photos. Have a great rest of your day!

    so the epson looks like the winner but does it have an instant ink option or is that only with the HP?

    • @evandrinks
      @evandrinks  3 роки тому +1

      At the moment, the HP is the only printer that has a program like HP Instant Ink. However, depending on what you are printing, and how much you print, the Epson could save you money. Canon began rolling out a program similar to HP Instant Ink a few weeks ago, but at the moment this printer is not eligible. Epson also started a service called ReadyPrint a few months ago, which is also a subscription, but at the moment this Epson is not eligible. Epson also has a ReadyInk service that will automatically send ink when needed through Staples. The service can save you up to 10% on ink. Have a great rest of your day!

    Nice video regarding speed and print quality. However, there is one factor that you didn't cover and can be very important for home users that just print occasionally.
    The HP 7855 uses the 64 ink cartridges that have the printheads built into the ink cartridge. The Epson 7100's printhead is built into the printer and is not user removeable. I didn't research the Canon 8520 but many Canon printers have user removeable printheads.
    So for home users that just print photos occasionally, since the Epson 7855's printhead is built "into the printer", if the printhead gets clogged due to non use, steps to try to clean manually are very difficult. If the printhead cannot be unclogged, the printer then becomes a brick.
    On the other hand, since the HP 7855's printheads are built into the ink cartridges, if a printhead becomes clogged, manual attempts to clean are easy by just removing the ink cartridge. There are youtube videos on how to do that. If the printhead cannot be unclogged, just buy a new ink cartridge and the printer will print fine.
    I won't go into cleaning the Canon printhead here since I don't know if the 8520's printhead is user removeable.

    • @jeffwiegand3180
      @jeffwiegand3180 Рік тому

      Good catch! I, too, am an infrequent printer user so the ability to clean printer heads is important. I have owned an HP Envy 7855 for six years and clean the cartridge heads with warm water and a paper towel nearly every time I use it. Streaking typed lines is my biggest complaint. I just can't seem to eliminate them.

    • @evandrinks
      @evandrinks  3 роки тому +1

      The st-4000 is definitely a great choice if you want a very low cost of ownership. Color printing is slightly slow at 10ppm but for most printing it should be fine. The only difference between the two printers you mentioned is that the ST-4000 is usually sold for $100 less and includes a 2 year warranty. It is otherwise identical to the 4760. So the ST-4000 would be the better choice. Great question!

    Can I turn off the ink levels in any of these? That’s if I want to refill my own.

    • @evandrinks
      @evandrinks  3 роки тому +1

      On the Canon, if you ran the ink cartridges until they were empty, and continued printing then eventually it would disable ink monitoring for that cartridge. However, when you don’t know how much ink is in a cartridge and it runs out without you knowing, you run into the high risk of burning out your Canon thermal printhead. If you want to refill your own printer, then I would suggest looking at the Epson EcoTank models. If you live in the United States or Canada, then I would suggest checking the Epson clearance center for a good deal on a refurbished EcoTank printer.

In general, I would say that I liked the Epson EcoTank printers the most. They are very versatile, and they use a micro-piezo printhead as compared to the other manufacturers that use thermal printheads.
