Agreed, Asura's Wrath is a guilty pleasure. But god, they could have done so much more in the gameplay rather than it just being a reaction time focused game.
I honestly understand where he's coming with it. It does look really good. However, keep in mind this is a company from China. China specializes in making products that look amazing/really good from the surface, but if you dig a little you find out its poorly made all the way through. I am super skeptical of it, and hope it turns out well. I'm not holding my breath though.
Xandie Perfect mi amigo, just keep it that way, then we'll see how the final game looks, i mean, it's actually pretty fun to be super skeptical first and get stunned by the actual product. Not being sarcastic, but jus hold it and we'll see. Product means everything.
The devs cut off their ties with Ten Cent, a big company, just to realise their dream, to create this game. I think they’re really going all out on this.
Yeah, the devs are not freshman. They used to lead a team in China game giant Tecent but later left the company cuz they hate the profit-driven culture. They had worked on this game for 3 years, if not more.
At this stage, it's basically impossible to cut ties with tencent. That goes for me, you, these devs, etc.. everyone really. Those cyberpunk concepts of big corporations ruling the world, it's already happening
It’s interesting because the devs themselves said in an interview as well as pointing out in a video everything wrong about their own work. From frames to water having no physical properties. They said although they’re happy people are hype and it gained popularity, they aren’t quite as much and won’t let it get to their heads. They even said “forget this footage. It doesn’t represent our best work.”
I hope they can make that a slogan to their gaming company because if they did everything what were seeing right now. This indie company will be like capcom, ea and sony in the future. Everyone will buy their games in the future.
Some members of the press have already played this level and said it looks the same as the trailer, so the devs are definitely not faking stuff. Of course, there's still a lot of content to build and the hardest part is to be in the same consistent high quality as what the trailer has shown.
I am Chinese, according to one of the interview yesterday, the main reason they put out this is all because they are lack of staff ,currently, they have 30 people in this studio ,they need more people especially who are really good at making games to join them to finish this game ,otherwise with this 30 people group they will still need another 1-2 years (they started this in 2018,some artwork ideas are finished many years ago ) The studio boss said the developing cost of this game is around 2-3 million USD per hour ,currently the don't need money, but they really need more people to join them( one hour means the time an average player spends in this game ) They are former Tencent staff ,they had already made tons of money in the last 10 years ,in 2016 maybe, the main artist of this studio said “I am not young anymore,i really want to make something i want to make before i retire or lose passion ” My English sucks, hope you guys understand :)
@Vladimir Makarov Yes,it is real, the studio boss actually said the cost of this game is 15 million -20 million RMB per hour , 1 usd = 6.8 RMB,so it is around 2-3 million USD per hour ,You see the first old man ,it is actually shoot in a movie studio ,they put sensors on actors ,it is like making a science fiction movie ,It is super expensive
Hope they can recruit talented staff so we gamers, especially Asians who are familiar with Journey to the West, can really live in the world that Wu Cheng'en created
@Vladimir Makarov not the hour of they developing the game, it is the hour we are playing in the game will cost them that mount of money (I am not sure if Huarong is correct about the money but you get the idea)
@Steven Murphy The CEO of game science actually posted on Weibo (Chinese Twitter) saying something like "everyone, please calm down.....investors please hold your money first....we've got way more applications and CVs than we expected...." So, maybe they have received thousands of calls from investors and dozens of thousands of applications from the most talented people in the game industry. And that's what happened within 3 days after the release of this trailer.
Simon Ding I disagree man, it matters a lot. Think about how big the teams are for a company like rockstar and how many devs they have and it takes them 5-7 years just to fully complete 1 game like a red dead or a grand theft auto. Another good example is CD Projeckt Red. Look how long it took them to make cyberpunk 2077 and they are a huge company now with a huge team
@Steven Murphy lol Ig you really have no clue of what you're talking about. If it requires 4 people to cook an entire fast food meal in under 10 minutes, then what happens if I added another 20 people to help with that 1 single meal. Will it be done faster or will just waste more time? There is a point where efficiency is at its peak and any more would just be dead weight.
there are some interviews in Chinese webside about this team. they said , this game is coming out in 2~3 years. they dont want any spoiler, the reason why they pull out this game play vid, is they want tell people they are really serious about making a good game. BUT, they need more people to join them. they only got 30 people, small group. Now alot people ask for pre-order, or donation, they want support this game. Many company want to buy them, they said ,they don't need money, they just need talent people. From yesterday, they post a statement about no more interview, no more visit in person, because so many big company trying to steal employee from them, offer great position,a lot of money. They said ,they not going anywhere, they are a bunch of people who don't care about money , they want make a great game. SO they gonna close the door anf focus on the game. they only post this vid, try to hire more people who got passion for good games, and talent. so we not gonna see them or anything about this game in atleast 2 years. next time we see them, gonna be the game done, ready to release. and it will be better.
They actually have a company behind (i heard that company is Tencent, and this group have made "Asura Online" for company as their project, but because Tencent betrayed them so now they make another game like this), so probably they don't need money as well, they really need talent people to help make China great again because they're already rich from begin, but i wonder, if they found someone really talent and join their group, how they can hire/support for talent people without money? They worry about some many companies buy them and steal their employees because Tencent already owned them, right? Even there's some Chinese laws won't allow them make a game without local Chinese company support, or when they plan to work for outside companies without permission, they will have a problem with Chinese laws. I mean only big companies like Tencent can give a chance and help this group publish AAA game (for example, work together with another outside company to translate this game, optimize this game, and PR, advertisement, etc... a lot of things which only big company like Tencent can do). When Tencent saw this game getting more hype from people, maybe they will force this group back to their company. This group is developer team, not a publisher team
@@quyphuongtay i hope they finish it without having to sell themselves over to the big corps, it would be nice seeing this game finished without any external influence
That second monkey guy was Wukong himself. Can tell from the staff, since Wukong's signature Ruyi Jingu Bang is commonly depicted as red with gold tips, and the Dynasty Warriors-esque beatdown near the end is slightly closer to how OP the man is, himself.
Tbh, knowing Wukong, both of them are Wukong. One of them is the Monkey King and the other is the Victorious Fighting Buddha. If its a tale of the whole story... Monkey King, Great Sage the Heaven's Equal to VFB. Would be wonderful. The myth is soo darn epic!
I think this is the prequel to Journey to the west / Wukong origin story. Wukong is known for stealing things after all (and is the whole reason why he was stuffed under a mountain).
Some important content for foreign players: 1. "Black Myth: Wukong" will be a trilogy according to Youke's current plan, and the first one is currently being made. 2. The current level is the first part of Heifeng Mountain-Lingxuzi. There are scenes of white snake and black bear behind. 3. The difficulty of the game demo is very high, so the blood lock is unlocked. The long time of the transformation is also a temporary setting, otherwise it is easy to beat (it is not as easy as some viewers think) 4. The big head monsters that have sneaked in pv can be played, and there are also executions! 5. There are currently two problems to be solved: in order to create a fuller character image, more precise facial capture technology and more professional performers are needed. The interaction between characters and monsters needs to be strengthened 6. At present, the important task is to recruit talents, and it needs some like-minded developers to join in to speed up development 7. I hope that some big game manufacturers will appreciate the difficulty of making them, and do not come to dig people, especially headhunters, to give them some peaceful space
The 3 realms may be included in Wukong: the heaven realm (Wukong may fight the gods and destroy the heaven like he did it in the original novel story line, and in the trailer you can see the four great guardians of heven and more gods at the end); monster (the main enemies he fought against); human (there is a kingdom built and ruled by women in the novel, and their king, also a woman, is attracted to Tang Seng, Wukong's master through the journey, and wants to marry him. But I'm not sure whether they would be in this game or not). The rest of the black myth trilogy might be about other characters in ancient chinese mythology, and it's not just The Journey to the West.

I find it funny that everyone talks about how the boss fight looks incredible and how the boss looks incredible, but the head creator of the game really doesn't like it because he thinks it doesn't look good enough and that the fur is terrible. The head creator and the team all seem to be hyper critical of the game and it really seems like this game will be a massive passion project if they get their way.
Poseidon battle trailer from God of War 3 blow my mind back 2010 and the actual battle on PS3 was like the trailer. I hope will be the same situation here.
I remember too! GoW3 was so fun and beautiful for the time. This game is starting to shape up to same thing too. I just hope we don't have the rug pulled from under us again.
@@falcedacciaio It was said that Alibaba called to invest the moment they saw the footage, and the company turned down the offer, and they knew every chapter was going to cost at least 10 million USD to say the least, but money was not a problem at the moment, they only needed good people with experience and expertise in this industry, and they would refuse further investements and interviews.
It is pre alpha that means the game will get a huge graphical downgrade. People always holding onto hope in video games like they will just suddenly change for the better. Smh
Feng JI, Producer of Black Myth: Wukong: "The current situation gives us an unimaginable level of honor, status and expectation. This is a very scary double-edged sword, super high expectations, inevitably accompanied by super high requirements. From the inside, what we're doing is a lot worse than what the top games were six or seven years ago, but we still have to look at what's ahead. I'm a little bit extreme, but we can't compare it to domestic products. Because in some fields, foreign countries have left us behind for too long. It would be dangerous if we were content with only domestic products, or only a little. We did grow up watching a lot of great Hollywood movies and playing a lot of great games. Can we also tell a Chinese story at the world level in terms of absolute quality, technology and image standards? Not because to tell a Chinese story, you have to use a lower standard, which is disrespectful to The Chinese story.
Dev did interview about trailer going viral, Dude apologies for dropped frames, static fur on wolf boss, no motion effects in muddy puddles, what a legend!! Game probably not out for a couple years, he said his intention was for the trailer to be a recruitment tool for his company 👏👏👏👏
I get what Max is saying: Trailers normally are too polished to hook in the audience and when a game normally releases after that, the graphics are far below their expectations. However, frame rate drop in a trailer is good because that's a sign that the game may be close in quality to the trailer's graphics. I totally understand what Max means. I hope this game does well.
Christopher Gordon I do believe the current ambient rendering is good enough otherwise it will be the GPU killer, I don’t wanna spent too much for updating
I understand that, but I also need people to understand that this is next gen. Things are going to look awesome in next gen and things we have right now are probably gonna look like crap in comparison. This game could very well look shitty in comparison to other next gen AAA titles as well. A game of quality like this is highly possible, and developers these days already have the technology and skills to make something this good, it is just that our gadgets still aren't good enough to handle a game like this, at least not until next gen comes.
well.. to be honest, that's not exactly true. the ability to shrink and extend to his will is the property of his bar, i.e., monkey king's bar, or, Jingu Bang. hence he's able to put it in his ear. I'm assuming that the dev make it so that the 2nd weapon, and probably all the weapons, have the same property. it kinda make sense, given that they specifically call all the weapons Fa Bao, or, magical artifacts.
@@luciusartorius4171 that's not right. 72 ability comes from another later noble. the original '72 trans' in 西游记 didn't explain it very clearly, it's about like the ability to escape from the evil power of wind fire and thunder,so to make people live forever.
Game Maker Q&A Q: Why did we choose this time to release the trailer? A: The direct reason is that the development team is quite short of people, especially experts. We are very eager for China and the world, friends who are interested in high-quality action game development, can join us. Let's create this ascendant oriental magic world together. For details, please pay attention to the recruitment information at the bottom of the official website. The content will be updated dynamically at any time. Q: What is the payment model? A: One-time buyout. In the future, DLC and non-numerical items may be sold in the future. In addition, we are very happy to see everyone save the screenshot of this question and answer, in case we remind us at any time in the future. Q: When will it be released? I can't wait A: It shouldn't take 500 years...We will release when we feel satisfied, but we will also consider marginal effects and cost-effectiveness. After all, more works of Black Mythology are also carefully planned in our dreams. Q: Estimated time for customs clearance? Will other heroes be added? Will there be an online mode? A: I can't tell you for now. What worries us most is that we also love to play high-quality single-player plots, diversified career/weapon combat experience, and support for networked action games.
The fact that they told us to reminding them to not add microtransaction in the game is literally a best ways to say that they really happy to heard your support.
@kreuzzug so its basically bs. If they are saying that they are an understaffed indie team, then they 100% used a lot of trickery in that gameplay trailer. Im in the industry myself and the cost for such a title are enormous. And even If they got a bunch of investors, you can pour as much money into to project as you want, you still need time and resources. Take Star Citizen for example an very ambigious project of a small team and they are still no where near release.
this reaction is by far the best I've seen. Being a Chinese, I'm in many ways connected to this game. Firstly Wukong has been the superhero of our culture for centuries, and secondly, we've been waiting too long for a AAA game that's made by a Chinese company (a large number of the Chinese games suck hard, I must admit). On the other hand, when I first watched the video, I also feared that this is some kind of facade, designed to promote the game but the real thing is not even close to what they are showing. Having someone that knows the industry well to react to this is priceless, and your reactions are on point, direct, and NOT consisting of meaningless "Wow"s.
Fun fact: The music at the very end of the trailer is actually the classic TV show theme 1986. This is the theme that brought many Wukong fan tears. It was called Ganwen Lu Zai Hefang. Unofficial translation would be Where is the Road?
@@whispererXD It was like the non-vocal ver. Just got that intro though. The version I gave was the vocal ver. with the semi-similar intro, minus the electronic part.
@@zhaoyun255 You can hear that same melody in 云宫迅音 ,too. Cause it is the song's basic part. You can also see this name(云宫迅音)at the end of the game trailer , at the bottom of the video.
I'm actually just glad that Sun Wukong and the Journey to the west Myth is getting more attention, i mean, the whole concept is amazing, and tbh, after stuff like Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima or Nioh, i'm up for more awesome Japanese/Chinese fantasy stories and lore in games (Faaaaaaaar away from anime stuff tho) The actual dev tem that put this demo together even apologised for the thing having "Issues or glitches" and that the whole stuff may take 2 or more years to be finished! For me, if this means that we are getting a legendary game for next gen, i'm sooooo much in!!
Sun Wukong and Journey to the West is extremely well known though, even outside of Asia? It's pretty deeply ingrained in Japanese culture and media, let alone in its original home country. Regardless, it's cool that we're finally getting more 'specific' games on the myth, instead of just a multitude of homages , references and story-beat retreads.
Max has Game Reveal PTSD. Where he now believes everything is bullshit until proven otherwise. And frankly I dont blame him. There has been so many bullshots, pre-rendered "gameplay" that came out to be disappointing that its hard to believe anything that comes out now.
I was 12 years old when I first saw the gameplay reveal trailer for watch dogs. Was so excited for that game I literally ran around the house like an idiot. I'll never forget that disappointment when I got the game and since then I've never trusted a gameplay reveal trailer of any game. Stay skeptical until demo/release
This Game Science studio is located right next to my school campus (Chinese Academy of Arts), we have people interviewed the team already, and they filmed some videos show that the dev team actually playing on PC with controller, and all the footage showed in this short intro is exactly how it appears on their screens and we are 100% sure that they are playing it. But why is it never be heard before? because they are afraid of once they release any early dev footage, big corporation will try to offer money buying their studio or something, but they have to release this intro video because they need more hands working with them since they might not be catching up with their own schedule.
“A lot of times things don’t end up being what [they look like] they are. Ubisoft has made their entire company around that.” Hot damn if that’s not the most accurate take of Ubisoft’s downgrades I’ve ever heard, oof.
In China they use more old stories, one example is the one used in the game (Journey to the West), because the country is "dictatorial", they cannot create something close to the current timeline because they have a good chance of being censored
@@nigoning they ban everything that relate to child sex, bloody violence, porn-like, politics that against government. But, I dont think those are necessary for a good game. black soul and monster hunter and gta5 are not banned in China.
the game devs we have are soft now, they used to make top tier games but it seems now the rest of the world are making the better games. Like this and cyberpunk, people even complained that CDPR had crunch culture but no, they just work harder then us
If you know, Wukong is the only one who dare to face entire Heavenly Palace + 4 Great General of Heaven, and then the Buddha stop his Rampage seal him under the Mountain
I believe the dev is referring to the way the dog boss took too long to attack. For a boss, it went down relatively fast and didn’t track with his attacks all that well. So I can see some technical touch ups to make.
My brain is leaking out of my ears it feels like I'm staring at my entire childhood but in an art style I'd never imagined. They started out small with that narration (gah the narration and the cadence was so nostalgic) and just hints of iconic Monkey traits (shrinking weapons to hide as needles behind/in his ear, creating clones of himself by blowing on hairs plucked from his head, the calligraphy on his Golden Compliant Staff looks almost exactly like the calligraphy from the 1997 cartoon version of the show), then the second monkey coming in wearing the military armor he's depicted in in the old cartoon series and peking opera performances complete with the pheasant(?) feather crown, transforming into a bug to infiltrate enemy territory, Golden Cicada (Tripitaka the monk is the 10th incarnation of the soul of Golden Cicada), then the trailer jumping back to show the beginning of the journey, where he's chasing the White Dragon, on the golden nimbus cloud, and then even farther back showing his battle against the four heavenly kings, and his larger battle in general against the armies of Heaven. idk I've seen other videogames try to pull off Journey to the West before but this is the first trailer that's ever really made me get excited because there's so many small things I can point at and say "I know where that's from!" That said, if this is truly a game trailer, this looks incredibly ambitious. 72 transformations? Into what??? In the original book I thought the author threw that number out because it has significance in Buddhist numerology or something, and then he just transforms into whatever the plot wants under the excuse of "it's one of the 72 forms", and they did show him transforming into that demon/enemy, which Monkey certainly did all the time. It'll also be interesting to see what parts of the plot they decide to flesh out (really thinking, are they really going to make chasing Dragon a significant portion of the game?) I didn't notice a lot of hints about enemies which are considered cultural touchstones integral to the story of Journey to the West, but I got most of my love for the story from children's cartoons and I do struggle to learn about some of the more esoteric enemies seeing as I'm American-born Chinese. Ugh I could go on forever. This looks amazing, I am too scared by "ex-Tencent" and the ambition of this game to believe it's true until a demo appears, but it looks so pretty! I want to have hope so badly.
@bookworm Zhu Bajie knows 36 transformation, Sun WuKong knows 72 transformation. These numbers after you divide back to number 9. And number 9 is perfect number as consummation.
I’ve got to say, this is the first game of the next gen that made me say “WOAH”. This looks so much better than anything else I’ve seen so far. And Max is legit right about Big AAA companies. We always have to remember the Watch Dogs fiasco. BUT, if this game comes out like this, 1st day buy for me! It earned my curiosity at least. For the record, yes, big DBZ fan here. It’s how I learned about Son Wukong and Journey to the West. I believe that, games like this should be successful. People who simply want to make an amazing game.
could be a watch dogs or it could be a battlefront and considering they admitted it is a pre alpha but in still all made in engine leaning to it being a battlefront
Sadly it looks like one of those games that would either get cancelled or take years in the making while being forgotten just to be released in a state that doesn't live up to what was shown .
If you mean the last fight in the cloud, it is one of the most famous and exciting scene in the book when Wukong go fighting against all the gods in the sky alone. It represents the spirit of Wukong: never surrender to the authorities.
to some who don't know, Sun WuKong is a character from a Chinese myth novel 400 years ago called Journey to the West. In the myth, some of his powers include riding clouds, transforming (72 forms), that magical staff he wields can lengthen and shorten, he also hides it in his ears when it's tiny. When he tears off strands of his hair, each strand can turn into a clone of himself. Oh, and let's not forget he can freeze people with words. that's all i remember for the moment. but he's pretty dope!! lots of animes are inspired by him and his story Journey to the West. Like Goku from Dragonball is pretty much WuKong (Goku is WuKong in Japanese), Naruto's shadow clones, the nine-tailed fox, Sandaime's transformation... are all inspired by WuKong.
72 transformations is actually a mistranslation. It's more like 72 different spells, transformation is one of his specialties but he also has 71 others.
From what I've heard, this dev team has two locations (Hangzhou and Shenzhen). Their Hangzhou team is responsible for this game, whereas their Shenzhen team mainly focuses on maintaining existing mobile/web-based games, which are the main revenues that supports the development of this game. I really do hope they can finish this project, and like you said, if it's 75% as good as this, I'm down.
the chinese are often put down as second rate copycats this and the "anime" Quanzhi Gaoshou -The king's avatar - really shows how much talent remains under chains there
@@OdinAlgeron There's so many important classics that shaped eastern culture that originated from China that the government there is trying to suppress. Sun Wu Kong deserves to be remembered as one of the great mithlogical figures, not buried under a mountain of bullshit.

@@ChronoTriggerHappy Exactly what I was thinking. Original must have gave him abilities such as Mass Clones, Transformations and the MK Staff. The reason? Maybe the original is sealed somewhere cause that's usually how it goes with any MK stories.
They're basically doing with Wukong what Marvel has done with Thor. They might even be implying all the tellings and re-tellings of Journey West represent "many worlds" or some kind of cycle. Notice there are three Sun Wukong iterations based on elements of the collected mythology of the character: young and foolish (blue), older and skilled (red, iconic abilities), and the narrator that seems to be dropping some really great hints. What he says at the beginning helps explain the later moment that seems to be confusing a lot of viewers. What we end up seeing is what the narrator described with "some say he died on the journey" when the young blue Wukong meets the older red Wukong. This is where the young one dies in the tellings the narrator references, only in the "Black Myth" his future self prevents this. I think the narrator is obviously Buddha-hood Wukong, but even he seems to be a bit vague about that. He seems immortal but imperfect, like an old god going dormant. At the end it almost seems like he's about to turn into a traditional style statue, having come to terms with his many memories of his many iterations, moving on to become a memory himself. In fact, I think the "Black Myth" is his version of his own stories, his attempt to reconcile the infinite possibilities he can perceive in his ascended mind into one telling we can comprehend.
impressive analyze, tbh I was very excited to see the red one appear cause I knew that's the real one I can imagine, besides he had words on his weapon that I guess almost every Chinese ppl can tell what that is.
@@thomasmorato5098 The "black myth" probably indicates it's gonna be a different story (unknown, untold, hidden to the folks), otherwise it would be predictable and boring for the Chinese and other Asians
Just for context, this trailer wasn’t put out in the market to get fundings, the creators are indie creators, not a triple A studio, they are a team of passionate chinese young people working for tencent (worlds largest gaming company), they were assigned to design a new game about the monkey king (one of the most important figures in chinese novels, also childhood hero of most chinese or even eastern asian) but tencent cares about profit and asked them to add a lot of paid to win and micro transactions, so these passionate group of young people left to make the real monkey king game, this trailer is supposed to help them recruit more game developers and not flex, as a matter of fact the ceo actually said this trailer is far from finished and the final product will have way better shadow rendering, 3 s rendering, water physics and way better dynamics especially in the final fight scene where he fought in the heavens vs 100 enemies. So if you think this looks too good, be excited , this video was made by 13 producers and now they have anywhere between 30-100 people working on it. This is a work of pure passion, indie designers who left a well paying company to take the chinese myth and gaming industry on a “journey to the west.”
I'm also skeptical but then there is that game "Bright Memory" made entirely by 1 Chinese dude. It doesn't look next gen or anything but it is very impressive for 1 dude doing everything. If this is a studio of 30, or even just 10 of that kinda dude, there's hope.
It's an indie game from a studio with a team of 40 people, who have worked for years to make these vertical slices of the game, they're currently hiring around 19 more people, and reportedly have a team of 13 "very experienced" developers on. Or at least that's what dudes like JongYea are reporting.
Yeah, they made MMO and tactical games before. In fact, their previous MMO was screwed by Tencent - the piblisher. So now they left and started their own company to make the game they want
@WithAStick AngryWhiteMan You can go out and see the real world by your eyes, like trivel to china sometime or watch some china trivel VLOG in youtube, dont live like a ignoramus
One thing that proves that fight with the wolf was real and not fabricated was that early on in the fight when the main character jumps up in the air, you can see the collision of the wolf actually bumps into the main character's weapon and drags the character. Game physics right there, not just plain animation.
As far as I know from the Journey to the West: Wukong has 72 miracles that help him transform into various forms, including flying into the sky realms, diving into the water or going to hell. His staff was Yu the Great's giant ruler using for measuring the depths of the ocean, it can be turned larger or smaller as the user wants. Wukong used to order it to turn smaller as a sewing needle and put it in his ear. The cloud he was riding to fight with dragon was one of his 72 miracles, called Nimbus. Nimbus was the name of the miracle, not the name of the cloud like DragonBall. Four titans are the four great kings who rule over the first heaven realm of the 33 heavens realms. The dynasty army that ambushed wukong on the clouds was the army of the Jade Emperor. Jade emperor was the ruler of the universe, not the creator.
@Eddiepsp He's the inspiration for Luffy from One Piece as well. Luffy's ability to stretch his limbs is an homage to Sun's extending rod, as well as his full name Monkey D. Luffy haha
Eddiepsp only uneducated people not knowing that dragon ball is based on the folk tale story journey to the west will say that. I’m hype for this. It looks amazing
The original story is from a Chinese novel "Journey to the West", and the main character -- Monkey King's name is WuKong as same as its game title. If you are a Huge "Dragon ball" fan, this is the original idea. 10:41 The Monkey King is holding the Mind Stick on the Somersault Cloud, just like Goku.
Mind Stick? Are you referring to Ruyi Jingu Bang? I've heard it translated to the "As You Will Cudgel", but never "Mind Stick", especially since it's a bo staff and not a stick.
Not the original ideal, it's a straight up copy, lol Toriyama copied the monkey king tale at first, then he copied western superheroes and pop media later. Superman, Terminator, etc
@@EroticOnion23 No, it's not banned. You still can use some XBOX or PS4 in China, just some games may be considered "too violent" ""and cannot be passed by the censorship system so they are unable to be officially released on Chinese XBOX store. But it's not a big deal, most Chinese game players use PC.
As someone who's played a lot of more 'modern' chinese games, I have to say they never really disappoint me. They're always fun in some way, and focus on being a game over being a form of developers earning money. Aside from like, idle games and shit that says "top up". Actual chinese games like 300 Heroes or Age of Wushu, games like that. I have no doubts that this game will come out as they presented it here, if not better. The problem is "Will the hardware be able to handle it?". I hope what Max says about this 'being the start of AAA chinese development' going global comes true, because the stuff they pump out from my experience has been nothing but hidden gems.
Well you know Jon China is a really interesting country with a diverse rich cultural landscape and people really need to stop judging it solely based on it's Government's horrific acts of genocide against its Muslim population, political interference in foreign economies, political indoctrination camps, totalitarian surveillance and suppression of its own people and its attempts to impose authoritarian control over the formerly free people of Hong Kong. Y'know China is bigger than all of those little things.
"I understand why everyone is freaking out, i get it....". Lol, no man, you don't. this is HUGE. imagine you were raised on this material from when you were a little kid. everyone from your grandpa to your aunt, love the Monkey King, then you watch movies and TV shows made about the Monkey King, when you were on the playground, you and your buddies fight over who is gonna be the Monkey King, then when you are old enough to read, you will end up reading the OG novel, when you take martial art, the main weapon you want to do is the staff, because again, the Monkey King. Hell, every year when New Year comes, there will be dragon dance and lion dance all over the places, and guess who is one of the main character, that's right, the Monkey King, twirling his staff around, doing back flip and awing all the little kids. This shit is ingrained into every little asian kid mind, for generations. The Monkey King ia the OG rebel that gives a middle finger to "the man" (he litterally peed on Bhudda's middle finger), scared the king of death, made himself immortal, beat up every single Heaven's bureaucracy pridefull assholes that send against him. He defides fate, forging his own destiny. His nickname for himself is "the sage equal to heaven" and that is only the first 1/3 of the story. So yeah to be able to play as him is a dream comes true for millions of asian kids. Lol
that's basically the greek Homeric poems to the western society. They forged our stories and traditions, even if many people don't know that. I was so happy that I recognized some of the parts of the story in this trailer, but I'm also happy I didn't understand at all the rest. Now I want to read the whole poem. I hope someone does the same with the Odyssey and the Iliad someday
Kinda an Elitist at the same time Gatekeeping response dontcha think? I'm referring mainly to the first two or more sentence you did which leaves the impression that's the case. He simply just said he understands why people are hyped for this, not saying he feels the hype the same way as people like you are getting so excited about.
@@OldSchoolGenius The entire thing sounds alright but your opening lines left a distasteful first impression. I'm not saying you're not allowed to voice out your opinion, but you're making it sound like people are not allowed to try to understand what you're feeling which in this case for this game. Because it's like saying "No, you'll never understand us coz you've never went through what we went through so your understanding of something or the situation is invalid." - or its like you've got your favourite indie band and suddenly they get famous and you see newcomers suddenly wanting to know more of them to feel what's behind the popularity but then you go like "Try as you might you'll never understand our love for this band coz we supported them from the very beginning so no just don't bother trying." - That's my point. - That may not be the intention but how you first worded things out that's how it sounds.
the game is based from the novel journey to the west. max says that "72 transformations, that seems ambitious" but technically wukong can do it in the novel. anyways if you watch its full trailer & stumble upon its ending, the music used on it was entitled "where is the road" played in its tv adaptation
I saw a Video of a Chinese UA-camr that did an interview With the game science crew about this game’s development etc. it talked about that so far from the team, they have about 30 people in the team doing the core development of the game, combat system format and story have been basically confirmed for developing, the voice acting and cutscenes editing are still in early process, the team is urge in need for more members on the development team, and that is their main prior issue, it is said that if not enough members join the development of this game the game would not be finished for another 2-3 years, the head chief developer said.
And also, from the head developer himself, he said that the gameplay that’s shown in the trailer barely reached his expectations standards, he said he released this trailer for recruiting purposes, the game still needs tons of improvements and it’s in the very early development.
I believe it. God of War looked almost as good as this and that was on current gen. This game really outdid itself in the animation department; everything looks fluid, whereas in GoW it's made obvious where two animations snap together. Monster Hunter not only has good monster animations, but player animations as well. Only reason why I can actually believe this to be authentic.
The Other WuKong we see could hint that there is time travel involved. There is an item called "Moon treasure box" that lets you time travel, like in Steven Chow comedy movie version of Journey to the West
FYI, at 9:33 , the one blocking the main character's attack, judging from the ancient chinese wordings on the staff "如意金箍棒“, that character is most likely the Fake Monkey King Wukong(six eared Macaque), on their journey to the west, there are a fake one called Six Eared Macaque "六耳猕猴" that are so powerful that Wukong and the macaque would fight endlessly for decades without a clear victor, there are rumors saying that the one slayed is actually Wukong when they seek advise from Buddha to identify who is the fake one . I think the game's story might starts with the true monkey king Wu Kong taking the revenge on the Six Ear Macaque. And in 14:17, it is written "白骨之后,重走西游”(The journey to the west continues after the White Bone Demonesses chapter) the phrase seems to derive from a popular phrase "白骨之后,再无战斗神"(The MMO game (战斗神) changed after White Bone Demon chapter), the message probably sent from the developer team to honour an old classic MMO game called 战斗神 that has been brought down by Tencent and the game has been gone downhill with heavy monetization after that, which upsets a lot of loyal player back then. This message seems to say "We will continue the legacy" of the once fallen great game. And some of the staff of this new game's dev team is coming from the 战斗神 game dev. So i doubt this team will ever bend the knee to Tencent again after Tencent ruined their original game.
The dog boss fight reminds me of something out of sekiro. Sekiro looked good too. This will be as well. Sun Wukong has up to 72 transformations. We see 2 lol
Hot Sauce excuse me yeah 72 transformations is the ability name in which he can shift into almost any form. Still dope. Wonder how far they are going to take that in this game
It looks like the main character isn't actually Sun Wukong. The second monkey who blocks the killing blow on the were-wolf has the iconic marked as-you-will cudgel. Though it looks like we might be playing as Sun Wukong during some of the havoc in heaven stuff perhaps.
7:53 actually it's chinese lores of Taoism, from which Wukong learnt his skills, that invented that clone magic things, which influenced japanese lores at a later point in history. Naruto is phenomenal recreating Ninja's deception skills with lores of clone magic.
its made on Unreal 4 without ray tracing, which is even more impressive for me. Imagine if they port it into UE5 and turn on ray tracing? Holy shit! Next gen of a next gen.
I'm Chinese , it's kinda interesting to watch such a react video about a Chinese game ,especially about Wukong , I can say that Wukong is the most cool role to all Chinese people . 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s I don't know 00s , Wukong is kinda like the dream of every boy or man . , everyone DO know the scenes starts from 9:53 , everyone can call out the name of the enemies , everyone . So this trailer is supper lit for Chinese people ,not just because the graphic or the move etc , also because the the game kinda like made everyone's dream come true . Maximilian Dood made very professional reviews .this is the most professional react video for Wukong I have seen so far .
Monkey King jam the weapon into his ear : the stick Wukong uses ,is called "Jinubang" , it can be very big or very small if Wukong want . so according to Journey To The West , Wukong put Jingubang into his ear by turn it into very small when he don't need to fight .
They have just started this project for 2 years, and this actual play trailer is release for recruiting more talented people to join the development team. This game won't show up in short time, we have at least 2-3 years to wait for it.
If this game comes out and is damn near anything like this. It's going up there as one of my favorite games ever. I love the ambience, the character designs, the fight mechanics.
One origin myth in Chinese culture is a Princess and a dog marrying, fucking, and producing a tribe of half-dog/half-humans who are the ancestors of several irl Chinese ethnic tribes (Yao, Miao etc). If you read up on Chinese folklore, there’s little difference between human, beast and gods, except intelligence that leads to sapience of the animals that uplifts them into being demigods, which sometimes interbred with humans. Madam White Snake is another example, she was a white snake demon who married a human. Also the offspring of human and demihumans are usually considered exceptional and superior to regular humans.
@@henveeee I think you should really read the novel first. Son Goku is basically inspired by sun wukong himself as Goku is the Japanese name for the monkey king
The backlash was so strong, Halo returned to the oven. That was actually hilarious, lol for a outsider of course, I assume Halo fans are mad (with reason)
@@radicalxg8282 It's the sandbox formula all over again, but in first person... basically far cry without the "rpg" bullshit. But honestly, between halo and far cry, halo looks much more interesting imo But again, eternal repetition, that's why it looks bland and uninteresting. There are so many sandboxes, they look like reskins of each other
Dragon Balls was actually based off the Monkey King, not the other way around. This is Chinese mythology of the Monkey King, the clones, the cloud, the staff, etc.
From what they say in their site, "Wukong" is just the first game of a series of chinese mythology based games. I hope to see more Black Myth games in the future, but I'm already hyped af for this one
10:45 The frames dont drop cuz the many characters on screen, but the particle smoke generated by Physics. We had this tecnology since 2005 or like, but we didnt have enought powerfull machines to run that in a videogame till now.

It hurts me just how accurate that statement is.

Bro saaaame tho
It would like say is Asura's Wrath but actually a game WITH FURRIES... but then I remember the devs of AW have made furry games...
asuras wrath was what jumpstarted max's popularity on twitch. It was one of his first hype games.
Agreed, Asura's Wrath is a guilty pleasure. But god, they could have done so much more in the gameplay rather than it just being a reaction time focused game.
What better compliment than: "I don't believe this game is real".

The devs cut off their ties with Ten Cent, a big company, just to realise their dream, to create this game. I think they’re really going all out on this.
Looks gdlk
Yeah, the devs are not freshman. They used to lead a team in China game giant Tecent but later left the company cuz they hate the profit-driven culture. They had worked on this game for 3 years, if not more.
At this stage, it's basically impossible to cut ties with tencent. That goes for me, you, these devs, etc.. everyone really. Those cyberpunk concepts of big corporations ruling the world, it's already happening
@@RRRRRRRRR33 tencent is a chump compared to google tho. All the 'tencent is evil' news you get is just 21st century red scare.
@@RRRRRRRRR33 but, they did cut ties. So they did the impossible?
It’s interesting because the devs themselves said in an interview as well as pointing out in a video everything wrong about their own work. From frames to water having no physical properties. They said although they’re happy people are hype and it gained popularity, they aren’t quite as much and won’t let it get to their heads. They even said “forget this footage. It doesn’t represent our best work.”
Thats badass!!!
lol that’s some fucking standards!
Thats pure honesty, something I've rarely seen in the industry - we need more devs thinking like that when making games
I hope they can make that a slogan to their gaming company because if they did everything what were seeing right now. This indie company will be like capcom, ea and sony in the future. Everyone will buy their games in the future.
I really hope they succeed after hearing that dude nitpick his own work. I hope this game is great and it sells well
That skepticism is healthy, video game consumers have been lied to so many times.
Game looks dope tho. Hope it delivers.
Which is why people wait for reviews alot more than before
Some members of the press have already played this level and said it looks the same as the trailer, so the devs are definitely not faking stuff. Of course, there's still a lot of content to build and the hardest part is to be in the same consistent high quality as what the trailer has shown.

@@bounce1721 Source? Thanks.
I am Chinese, according to one of the interview yesterday, the main reason they put out this is all because they are lack of staff ,currently, they have 30 people in this studio ,they need more people especially who are really good at making games to join them to finish this game ,otherwise with this 30 people group they will still need another 1-2 years (they started this in 2018,some artwork ideas are finished many years ago )
The studio boss said the developing cost of this game is around 2-3 million USD per hour ,currently the don't need money, but they really need more people to join them( one hour means the time an average player spends in this game )
They are former Tencent staff ,they had already made tons of money in the last 10 years ,in 2016 maybe, the main artist of this studio said “I am not young anymore,i really want to make something i want to make before i retire or lose passion ”
My English sucks, hope you guys understand :)
@Vladimir Makarov of cause ,An hour means the time that an average player spends in the game
Xiaopeng Shen this. Hour/Cost we spend playing the game.
Game looks too good

@Steven Murphy They actually released this to hire more artists
@Steven Murphy The CEO of game science actually posted on Weibo (Chinese Twitter) saying something like "everyone, please calm down.....investors please hold your money first....we've got way more applications and CVs than we expected...."
So, maybe they have received thousands of calls from investors and dozens of thousands of applications from the most talented people in the game industry. And that's what happened within 3 days after the release of this trailer.
@Steven Murphy dev team sizes don't mean anything though, since half the companies just get a 3rd party to do the grindy work.
Someone said "I hope this game makes its journey to the west"
there are some interviews in Chinese webside about this team. they said , this game is coming out in 2~3 years. they dont want any spoiler, the reason why they pull out this game play vid, is they want tell people they are really serious about making a good game. SO they gonna close the door anf focus on the game. they only post this vid, try to hire more people who got passion for good games, and talent. so we not gonna see them or anything about this game in atleast 2 years. next time we see them, gonna be the game done, ready to release. and it will be better.
thank you for the information ❤
yes they show the true display in the interview
齐 天 大 圣 孙 悟 空 !
Plus Lu Bu outfit
Also the old man who narrates , I would guess is Wukong too.
I think this is the prequel to Journey to the west / Wukong origin story. Wukong is known for stealing things after all (and is the whole reason why he was stuffed under a mountain).
I was just thinking they’d throw us a curveball and include Six Eared Macaque, but meh who knows haha
Some important content for foreign players:
The long time of the transformation is also a temporary setting, otherwise it is easy to beat (it is not as easy as some viewers think)
4. The big head monsters that have sneaked in pv can be played, and there are also executions!
5. There are currently two problems to be solved: in order to create a fuller character image, more precise facial capture technology and more professional performers are needed. The interaction between characters and monsters needs to be strengthened
6. At present, the important task is to recruit talents, and it needs some like-minded developers to join in to speed up development
7. I hope that some big game manufacturers will appreciate the difficulty of making them, and do not come to dig people, especially headhunters, to give them some peaceful space
Thx for the info does the trilogy involve 3 realms? the monster realm ,human and heaven??? and the 1st game will focus on the monter realm?
The 3 realms may be included in Wukong: the heaven realm (Wukong may fight the gods and destroy the heaven like he did it in the original novel story line, and in the trailer you can see the four great guardians of heven and more gods at the end); monster (the main enemies he fought against); human (there is a kingdom built and ruled by women in the novel, and their king, also a woman, is attracted to Tang Seng, Wukong's master through the journey, and wants to marry him. But I'm not sure whether they would be in this game or not). The rest of the black myth trilogy might be about other characters in ancient chinese mythology, and it's not just The Journey to the West.
sorry for the wrong typing in my comment, it should be "four guardians of the heaven", not "heven" :P

Game Maker Q&A
Q: Why did we choose this time to release the trailer?
I can't wait
A: It shouldn't take 500 years...We will release when we feel satisfied, but we will also consider marginal effects and cost-effectiveness.

Etriuswimbleton consoles and PC. Maybe cloud gaming platforms
@@TrickyJebus PC and main host platform Even cloud games

I heard it in detective D movie.
No that music at the end was called Yun Gong Xun Yin/云宫迅音,another theme of the TV show.

Does dragon ball counts
Sun Wukong and Journey to the West is extremely well known though, even outside of Asia? It's pretty deeply ingrained in Japanese culture and media, let alone in its original home country. Regardless, it's cool that we're finally getting more 'specific' games on the myth, instead of just a multitude of homages , references and story-beat retreads.
Dude Dragonball has been a thing for 40 years. How much more attention do you want?
I'm glad it is for games, other media like movies and shows though there is definitely some oversaturation. Waaaay too much journey to the West stuff
I do not care if it takes more than 2 years, as long as it will ensure the game will actually live up and even exceed the hype, I am all in
Max has Game Reveal PTSD.

Well that sounds like fake modesty...
I believe the dev is referring to the way the dog boss took too long to attack. For a boss, it went down relatively fast and didn’t track with his attacks all that well. So I can see some technical touch ups to make.
He noted the fur was too static
the attack patterns are mostly scripted, it's not that good as far as gameplay goes. but it's damn impressive for a pre alpha
My brain is leaking out of my ears it feels like I'm staring at my entire childhood but in an art style I'd never imagined.
They started out small with that narration (gah the narration and the cadence was so nostalgic) and just hints of iconic Monkey traits (shrinking weapons to hide as needles behind/in his ear, creating clones of himself by blowing on hairs plucked from his head, the calligraphy on his Golden Compliant Staff looks almost exactly like the calligraphy from the 1997 cartoon version of the show), then the second monkey coming in wearing the military armor he's depicted in in the old cartoon series and peking opera performances complete with the pheasant(?) feather crown, transforming into a bug to infiltrate enemy territory, Golden Cicada (Tripitaka the monk is the 10th incarnation of the soul of Golden Cicada), then the trailer jumping back to show the beginning of the journey, where he's chasing the White Dragon, on the golden nimbus cloud, and then even farther back showing his battle against the four heavenly kings, and his larger battle in general against the armies of Heaven. idk I've seen other videogames try to pull off Journey to the West before but this is the first trailer that's ever really made me get excited because there's so many small things I can point at and say "I know where that's from!"
That said, if this is truly a game trailer, this looks incredibly ambitious.
The dev team left Tencent because they didn't like the capitalistic greed, so don't get scared, get excited.
@bookworm Zhu Bajie knows 36 transformation, Sun WuKong knows 72 transformation. These numbers after you divide back to number 9. And number 9 is perfect number as consummation.

to some who don't know, Sun WuKong is a character from a Chinese myth novel 400 years ago called Journey to the West.
@@uriel6326 so like Jet Li in Forbidden Kingdom.
I like your analysis fellow internet stranger!

As far as I know from the Journey to the West:
Wukong has 72 miracles that help him transform into various forms, including flying into the sky realms, diving into the water or going to hell.

"so not from tencent"
- oh its good then
the developer is a former Tencent person bruh
@@Ammarnafiz12345 A former tencent because they didn't like how Tencent ruined the MMO they had made at the time.
6:31 - "Sif? Not quite."
6:35 - "Buff Sif?"
Me: "Benny-Luna on Steroids?"
😆 🤣 😂
There is an interview with the developer where you can see the guy actually picking up a controller and fought the first encounter in the trailer.
The dog boss fight reminds me of something out of sekiro. Sekiro looked good too. This will be as well. Sun Wukong has up to 72 transformations. We see 2 lol
It's very similar to the white demon gorilla boss fight, maybe with less poop being thrown your way...
Hailstormful lol yeah. Got high hopes for this
Hot Sauce excuse me yeah 72 transformations is the ability name in which he can shift into almost any form. Still dope. Wonder how far they are going to take that in this game
We saw 3
Haz3 Spears maybe it can be as hard as sekiro, because devs are the fans of dark soul
Can confirm me & my mother are talking about it and excited
It looks like the main character isn't actually Sun Wukong.
The second monkey who blocks the killing blow on the were-wolf has the iconic marked as-you-will cudgel. Though it looks like we might be playing as Sun Wukong during some of the havoc in heaven stuff perhaps.
7:53 actually it's chinese lores of Taoism, from which Wukong learnt his skills, that invented that clone magic things, which influenced japanese lores at a later point in history. Naruto is phenomenal recreating Ninja's deception skills with lores of clone magic.
"Black Myth" on the title prolly means they will create other games based on other Asian myths or anything mythical. Damn. Dis game.
I really need Xanzang story become a game..
It could be ome of the best series of all time
"This Game Looks Unreal"
The game made with Unreal
“This game looks unreal.” I mean it kind of is. (Unreal Engine 5)
The game is UE4.
UE4 and heard epic's support team has already in
Unreal Engine 4
its made on Unreal 4 without ray tracing, which is even more impressive for me. Imagine if they port it into UE5 and turn on ray tracing? Holy shit! Next gen of a next gen.
@@skychaos87 there is only 2 games for now that will have unreal engine 5.
Fortnite in an update next year
Hellblade 2
It's crazy how much of this game is still the exact same as this pre-alpha build.
They have just started this project for 2 years, and this actual play trailer is release for recruiting more talented people to join the development team.
This game won't show up in short time, we have at least 2-3 years to wait for it.
I feel like Max not knowing the story of the Monkey King is hilarious.
Well he is not Chinese
So that is reasonable
Not every person know Journey to the west story.
*This is the first time a Next Gen Game LOOKS & FEELS like actual next gen, so surreal.*
You have no idea how it feels tho. You haven't played it.
Elidan1012 By feel i mean overall VIBE you get from watching the gameplay, at least in my case, no need to be such a dickhead lol.
@@mikethespacecowboy1172 How was I a dickhead lol?
"Holy crap, the--holy crap, the..."
My sentiments exactly.
I'm actually shocked how little Max seems to know about The Monkey King Wukong.
He seems like just a rip-off of son Goku 🤔🤫🤥🧠
@@henveeee I hope you're being sarcastic.
@@henveeee emm well, son goku based on sun wukong from chinese mythology. just search " the journey to the west"
@@henveeee I think you should really read the novel first. Son Goku is basically inspired by sun wukong himself as Goku is the Japanese name for the monkey king
Very cool and rare to have a game based on Chinese mythology. Can't wait to see what they do with it!
Wu Kong shrinking down that staff to a needle and sticking it behind his ear is some great attention to detail.
I have seen a developing version of it in their office. It looks exactly the same as the video we saw.
This is exactly what I expect for Next Gen *glances at Halo Infintie*.
The backlash was so strong, Halo returned to the oven. That was actually hilarious, lol for a outsider of course, I assume Halo fans are mad (with reason)
R The biggest prob I had was showing a 4 month old build, why even start on that footing.
@@RRRRRRRRR33 Im not even a halo fan and what they showed was bland and uninteresting as fuck
@@radicalxg8282 It's the sandbox formula all over again, but in first person... basically far cry without the "rpg" bullshit. But honestly, between halo and far cry, halo looks much more interesting imo But again, eternal repetition, that's why it looks bland and uninteresting. There are so many sandboxes, they look like reskins of each other
OMG its what dragon ball was based off of, you got the power poll, "monkey king" ie goku, flying nimbus, lol
Dragon Balls was actually based off the Monkey King, not the other way around. This is Chinese mythology of the Monkey King, the clones, the cloud, the staff, etc.
@@marcusthewordpolice7396 yes that what I was saying.
From what they say in their site, "Wukong" is just the first game of a series of chinese mythology based games. I hope to see more Black Myth games in the future, but I'm already hyped af for this one
Next would probably be Ne Zha then. That's like the only myth I can think of that is second to Wu Kong.
@@waterblue2261 I would be pleased with that.
He did indeed jam it into his ear. Wukong tends to keep his staff shrunken down to the size of a needle and pierced through his ear.
After Cyberpunk, I'm getting worried
"ok, it starts dropping frame now, dropping frame is a good sign, it gives me hope! " 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What makes this game look so good is the real time lighting and shadows, with out those effects it would dull it's appearance.
with out those,Fur is great,Motion Model is great, skills is great, and story is great
The monkey king can take a handful of his hair and turn them into clones of himself. I read this in the book.
WithAStick AngryWhiteMan Maybe if he was able to do the same thing. I have never played those games before.
WithAStick AngryWhiteMan like? the truth is monkey’s myth had been published in china like 400 years ago
This game trailer is also a studio recruited ad, they are hiring people to help them finish the game.
10:45 The frames dont drop cuz the many characters on screen, but the particle smoke generated by Physics. We had this tecnology since 2005 or like, but we didnt have enought powerfull machines to run that in a videogame till now.
Dude even if the game 60% like this I'll still play it. It's my childhood.
me too,the 孫悟空 is a super hero for evey Chinese&Japanese children.
but who is real 孫悟空 in the game?
Angry Joe thought it was too beautiful to be true too... he said,
"THIS IS AMAZING!! THIS IS A LIE!! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT!!".... lol...
Max: "Buff Sif?"
Sif: I go by *Wide Sif* these days."
*"Song for Denise" starts playing during boss fight*
13:15 I think It's just that the fur is masking what could actually be a clunky looking and twisting monster model.
This truly is the time of return to monke.
