He actually dropped 6, the Mexican marines found 4 expired and two uresponsive but alive. It is unknown if any ambulatory wounded fled, but considering Alejo's accuracy and the casualties confirmed taken, I wager it is likely he left that element with 50% casualties, 20% fatal and 30% non fatal. That's a tactical (fled the field) and strategic (didn't procure the ranch, lost prestige) defeat inflicted at odds of at least 10 to numerically, by a 77 year old man with hunting weapons against a paramilitary force with military small arms. Reality continues to be stranger than fiction. The Rambo movie depicted a special forces veteran, reality was a rancher.

He bought his dream ranch and no one was going to take it away from him without a fight. He didn’t tell anyone what he was planning on doing and didn’t ask for any help. He showed us what a real man doesn’t when it’s time to put up or shut up. Stand on your feet and fight! The rest of the state of Tamaulipas could learn much from him.

Our friend’s dad was kidnapped by a cartel in 2005 or 2006 while down in Mexico on a hunting trip… he made it back home, but it rattled him for a long long time.
They beat the hell out of all the guys on the trip, kept the ranch owner hostage, then took a few of the other guys way out in the desert all separately, took their boots and clothes, and told them if they made it out, they could live.
Not quite the heroic stand of Don Alejo… they were caught completely by surprise in the middle of the night… but we were grateful he made it back home.

Don Winslow, author of numerous books, has a trilogy about the cartel madness that is nothing short of amazing.
You often mention "what should I do next", well these 3 books "Power of the Dog", "The Cartel" and "The Border" are fiction, but you can read between the lines and know his stories come with deep knowledge of the people and agencies involved (much like Tom Clancy). The "Don Alejo story" is covered in detail in "The Cartel" !
Anyone reading this trilogy for knowledge about this insanity in Mexico will not be disappointed !

Mexican here, the bigger issue is that authorities won't combat them. Back then the military did, which was scandalous, and many of us criticized their very limited efficiency even as they toppled some of the established cartels into fragmentation. But the current government, that is striving to cater to narcos and end democracy, has strict orders not to engage due to their "hugs, not bullets" policy on the surface and more importantly, to their evident and blatant pro-narco stances consistent throughout AMLO's mandate.
Now that Sheinbaum won the election and they're rushing to end the Judiciary power so they can alter the Constitution, you'll see the cartels become significantly more powerful, and begin to swallow much of the Mexican territory that even today is safe from the effects of the cartels' presence.

Woah. I was hoping to hear that he survived, but going out without being captured is commendable. I'm surprised that he even went toe-to-toe with them; cause I would have guessed that he'd position himself across the huge property and pick them apart.

He knew he would die by making a stand against the Cartel, the reason for sending his men to safety...
However, he also knew that he had to make a stand against the Cartel even though it would cost him his life...

It's worse than ever with the current narco-government that calls itself the 4T (4th Transformation). But Ruzzian propaganda is strong where ignorance thrives, and my Mexico is as ignorant as they come. Watch the news for crazy shit from Mexico the next year.
