As a kid I never realized how lowkey dark the Underground is. Ratchet and his mother basically kill homeless people, recycle their body parts and sell them to their customers. If this wasn't done with robots it would be a horror movie.
Also in this world, they don't need a black market for organs. You can walk down the street and get whatever organs or body parts you need. Literally the slums 😯💀

This is truly one of the Blue Sky's most underrated classics. I love how much time was put into developing this robot run world, I love the message about the working class coming together and standing up against their unfair capitallist overlords, and I especially love Bigweld. Mel Brooks as the voice is perfect and I love how he represents the imaginative, innovating ideas of Walt Disney. And boy, this movie sure was ahead of it's time when it came to planned obsolescence of technology.

I'll always remember when Fender is genuinely afraid of being sent to the chop shop. Despite this being a world where you can literally fall apart and treat it like an annoyance, the idea that real death is still something they fear really stood out.
The commentary on tech company practices really was ahead of it's time. And I love how this movie expertly balances deep political commentary with comedy and visual gags. I'm always in awe by how thought-out and fully realized this robot world is. I also love the villains, Ratchet and Madame Gasket and especially her introduction scene in the chop shop with Tom Waits' "Underground" playing. This is truly one of Blue Sky's best, and their most underrated.
Robots was definitely part of my childhood! It was quite a fun movie! When I was little, me and my sister would call this movie “the crazy robots”. The good ol days
Man, as someone who is disabled, this movie speaks to me on a level even beyond the tech world... Having to jump through hoops and/or pay thousands of dollars just to function on a "normal" level... or close to normal. And the imperfections of the treatments mean we are so often treated like we're broken or breaking down - obsolescent in the eyes of a corporate world. You're lesser than in society's eyes: a burden, a blood sucking, money sucking parasite which needs to be exterminated. This was one of the films I grew up on. I still adore it and I never understood how so few people recognized it as the brilliant film I believe it to be. There are flaws, yes, but not any more or less than many other timeless classics. Or maybe it's just that I am biased. Either way, I'm glad to see this film getting attention.
This movie was kinda prophetic on depicting how the corporate world slowly destroyed the american dream and every other dream with us not even noticing
It's uncanny of just how much of the commentary in Robots was spot on, Pixar's Cars had a similar plot, of the underprivileged cars being taken advantage of by big business, and had to fight against each other for spare parts, plus exposed the consequences of planned obsolescence on a community. Robots was not necessarily ahead of its time, it was more like a last warning of things to come, as the world envisioned in Robots became reality for all of us.
I think it's hilarious that I'm not the only person who sees Robots and Cars 2 (Cars 2 is where it gets REALLY obvious) as two sides of the same coin. They're simply flipped perspectives of the same general plot, with the core issue being identical. It's just a shame that the latter of those two films failed to actually develop upon that concept. It could have been an interesting commentary. I have a soft spot for both films... even if Robots is far superior. This really is Blue Sky's hidden gem.
It's crazy that someone actually looked at Cars 2 and got anything from it actually. I wish that movie didn't exist or was good, but it is cool to see the message they were trying to make.
I always like to imagine that this is what the robots from Futurama would look like in a more 3d environment. I wish more movies looked like this honestly, Blue Sky really knew how to make a visually appealing film (and screw you Disney for tossing them out like scrap metal)

I’m very surprised and at the same time grateful that Robots is now getting the attention and appreciation while also becoming a Cult Blue Sky Studios film in the process outside of the Ice Age and Rio franchises. Even the adult humor and comedy that is in this film could give the Shrek film series a run for their money.
Robots is one of the few movies I have heavy nostalgia for. I recently rewatched it with some of my friends to see if it still held up (did it with friends to help make sure I wasn’t looking with Nostalgia Goggles on) and, other than some weaker segments here and there, the movie was overall pretty good. Rest In Peace Blue Sky, you will be missed.

@1:00 i had a gym teacher in highschool ( this was like 15 years ago) who used to give us pirated dvds he recorded himself if we did well in class. If we answered questions right, we could chose from his bucket of movies. I treasured my copy of Resident Evil 2, where he had it sitting ina bag of chips that he crunched on the whole movie.
I've never seen this movie's message as pro-socialist. If anything, the exact opposite, I see what capitalism is. Yes the villains are some of what the worst of capitalism can be, smug elitists who care only about making money and staying above everyone else; for some, no matter the cost. But this movie's main protagonist, Rodney, is more or less what real capitalism is all about. An individual with a skill set that has hopes of using his talents to improve both his life and the lives of others. To coin the main catchphrase of the movie, "See a need, fill a need", That is the very definition of a good capitalist system. An example of this in real life I would like to use would be of Frederick Jones and his employer Joseph Numero. A Half black and Half Irish man born in 1893, Frederick was a man who learned the mechanics of cars as a young man both to earn money for himself and because he genuinely enjoyed working on cars. His skill was recognized during WW1 when he served in the engineering core up to being promoted sergeant to teach other upcoming mechanics on the most effective ways to repair vehicles and other electronics such as radios. Anyway, upon returning after the war, He was eventually approached by a local entrepreneur, Joseph Numero, who hired him to work on his business of audio electronics. One day Numero 'saw a need' for a more effective way for people to transport goods that would be at risk of rotting in warm temperatures, mainly food, so he asked Jones to invent him a mechanism that would keep goods cool while on transport. And so, after a number of failed attempts Jones invented the refrigeration unit that we see on many tucks today! Allowing for long transportation of foods and other perishables such as blood and medicine. He 'Filled the need'. And yes, both he and Nurmero got rich from that invention, because other businesses had a need for that invention and therefore both Frederick and Nurmero and their community became wealthier. Feel free to disagree with me, but I'll always believe this 'til the day I die. It isn't about having the best house; it's about building a large house yourself and letting other people live in it with you.
Thank you for covering one of my favorite movies since childhood. It holds up well to this day, and it really does make you think as an adult. Wonderful job as always! :)
This is one of my favorite films of my childhood and still my favorite to this day. Yeah, this film has some problems, but I appreciate it's message and commentary. But from a different interpretation.
I remember watching this like almost every day I loved it, and still do! my favorite joke has always been: "I know this place like the back of my hand oh that's new" **gets hit 100ft away**
I what I like about Robots is that style is very detail and I do like that many robot struggle to get they old part because they don’t sell them and have them pay more expensive stuff, sad part is that they can’t afford it so they broken.

I realize that this film was an omen of Disney’s mass purchase of companies. Obi Wan Kenobi, the Genie, and Storm in 1 movie. The actors of Star Wars, X-Men, and Aladdin under 1 company.
The FABLED ROBOTS VIDEO HAS ARRIVED. I was so excited to click on this, and then the Pikmin opening happened and I got even more happy. You just hit me with a nostalgia 1-2 punch (A note from my childhood: I always really liked Ewan McGregor’s performance in this movie, but it doesn’t stand up to BIGWELD)

Wow, this movie is such an interesting metaphor for Capitalism, an unsustainable system that keeps people poor by selling them essentials and then trying to sell luxuries by convincing these same poor that this is what they need, thus going into debt. If you keep the workers poor, ignorant and desperate you can squeeze them dry. However, once they have no more money and are in unbelievable debt, what is the next phase?
This movie was way ahead of its time. The comedy, storytelling, character development this was and is a great movie. I still find myself laughing at some jokes that went over my head when I was younger. The "who wants to get fixed?" With the chihuahua after still makes me laugh. Solid "like iron"
Great video! Could you do a Toy Story changed scene? Like Woody confesses his jealousy to Buzz? I loved that scene, I felt it really made a great change.
Is it strange to say that I find it completely plausible back in their world eventually somebody would potentially invent something that would allow them to transform their bodies similar to the T-cogs in transformers
11:50 Rodney didn't need spare parts for most of his repairs, because in all of the clips you can see that the solution didn't have spare parts as the only solution it was more creative than that, they also show this earlier when he fixed Fenders neck, also I would assume that they would still have a few spare parts left in the shop that Rodney could figure out how to use for the models they weren't intended for, but yeah that's one of the reasons his skillset is so rare and valued in this world.
I love "Robots"! It was one of my brother and my favorite family movies as kids! We had a family movie night every week and you can bet that plenty included "Robots"! Well, and "Chicken Run" that was another family favorite!
The big grey company with the identical grey bodies in the ad and not making cheap parts makes me think of Apple. Even as a younger teenager, I didn't like its style. They just needed to add the company giving lip service about being environmentally friendly while being the opposite and Thurs would be 1 to 1.
This movie aged like the finest wine Big Companies feeding off the poor healthcare and body positivity Kicking the once in power of the curp Truely a movie for the ages
My niece and nephew got a library book about this movie somewhat recently and wanted to watch it. Their mother, my sister, asked me if it was okay for them to watch since I'd seen it before. I went along explaining the plot and promptly had a moment when I stopped and verbally realized that the movie's plot is "Rodney Copperbottom leads a communist revolution."
In reply to apple executive, and diminishing quality and most importantly planned obsolescence… If you look after your iPhone like a baby you could use it for 5 years with full feature updates and another 2-3 years with security updates, I love my iPhone X and it’s still fine after half a decade. Unlike an android that i could have bought the same year there would be no updates and the resell value would be in the low triple digits if not high to mid double digits. What I’m saying is at least it’s not planned to be obsolete within 3 years, good going android and your phones that run off you… 😂 Love the channel btw
Oh man. I used to love this movie when I was a kid. Where do I begin like as a kid growing up? I love this movie so much. This will special place of my heart as a kid because while I watch it, my father would bring me Burger King all the time. And he would make me watch this movie and I loved it. And that's an adult. I haven't seen it. And I'm been trying to find it ever since I remember watching it as a teenager and I thought it was good. I still need to find it and live the ma. Take off my childhood
I love this movie growing up. I love it even more now that I realize how political it is. Yet people still trash talk it because of it's flaws. Well, if the devs didn't remove so many scenes the movie would be fine. (Look up ROBOTS deleted scenes.)
I feel as i have become a rodney in myself. Lots of characteristcs are similar and thankfully, as bad as a human i feel i am, my points of contention are thankfully goodhearted. Sometimes thowe lines are blurred. Thank you. Vindication is as solid as regret, howver i have one now, if not both.
The main plot hits me hard as a dreamer myself, especially with my dreams of working with Disney someday… which of course is super ironic. But this one line from that scumbag gatekeeper is what hits me even harder than ever… “Who makes dreamers like you? GET LOST, FREAK!!!”
In the first 23 second you break my brain with an early childhood show I have been trying to remember the name of for YEARS. I'll give you a like just for the happenstance and now cant wait to watch the rest of the video. Lol Small detour, had to get it out. While I'm here though, I hope you come out with a dummy long video one day and change the end statement to "My name has been Daz, and can't have not cared if you made it here. Goodbye." or something like that. XD

One of the best films ever.
You can shine no matter what you're made of. Someone put that on a shirt!
This movie aged like the finest wine
Big Companies feeding off the poor
healthcare and body positivity
Kicking the once in power of the curp
Truely a movie for the ages
This is one of the most underrated movies of all time and no one can convince me otherwise
I remember seeing this movie during my elementary school days, it was crazy yet cool:)
I love this movie and it is so underrated in all aspects the writing, designs, animation this movie is old at this point and it STILL looks good!
This is one of those movies that isn't quite a masterpiece but it is entertaining. An semi-masterpirce
Now do the scene that changed the curse of the wererabbit
Please let it be when gromit finds out Wallace is the wererabbit
In reply to apple executive, and diminishing quality and most importantly planned obsolescence…
If you look after your iPhone like a baby you could use it for 5 years with full feature updates and another 2-3 years with security updates, I love my iPhone X and it’s still fine after half a decade. Unlike an android that i could have bought the same year there would be no updates and the resell value would be in the low triple digits if not high to mid double digits.
What I’m saying is at least it’s not planned to be obsolete within 3 years, good going android and your phones that run off you… 😂
Love the channel btw
I actually liked this movie when i was younger. I completely forgot about it.
I loved this movie as a kid and still do
I love how you went back to your roots on this intro.
This films hold up too well for the age... wow
I was so terrified if the sweeper things as a child
I love this movie growing up. I love it even more now that I realize how political it is. Yet people still trash talk it because of it's flaws. Well, if the devs didn't remove so many scenes the movie would be fine. (Look up ROBOTS deleted scenes.)
I feel as i have become a rodney in myself. Lots of characteristcs are similar and thankfully, as bad as a human i feel i am, my points of contention are thankfully goodhearted. Sometimes thowe lines are blurred.
Thank you. Vindication is as solid as regret, howver i have one now, if not both.
Honestly impressive that this was Blue Sky's second movie
I. Fucking. Love. This. Movie. So Much.
At first I didn’t realize the Pikmin background but now it feels satisfying
I would really love a robots rpg game all the areas had such a charm to them i just want to explore
İt brings me great joy to see dazz looking at pikmin 4
Same
Why couldn't this movie one or 2 sequels? Ice age had 6 or 8 sequels.
I honestly think it was better left alone. Just like all the ice ages started to suck as they kept going
And Animat gave the seal of garbage
Wow, I didn't get the get fixed until just now even though I've seen this movie 5 times
The main plot hits me hard as a dreamer myself, especially with my dreams of working with Disney someday… which of course is super ironic.
But this one line from that scumbag gatekeeper is what hits me even harder than ever… “Who makes dreamers like you? GET LOST, FREAK!!!”
9:02 why do you have two noses? 😂 idk why that line makes laugh so much, maybe its the fact that they are robots and why would they have a nose at all
Ones for showin' and ones for blowin'!
I love Robots very nostalgic and very underrated.
XD
I wish this movie had a sequel or a series or something.
Bruh... Im 23 and this is one of my favorite movies. I literally just got the 'fixed' joke. Lmao.
How did your uncle even get a pirated version
