Sedge and Big D - thank you for making this video. Beginner DIY woodworker here and I was struggling with 1/2 inch plywood this weekend and was so frustrated. This was so timely and made my first drawer box today that perfectly lines up and was so easy to put together!
ПОсмотрел несколько выпусков про Festool Domino, браво!!! Отличная подача, отличный юмор и ценные советы! Спасибо огромное за Ваш опыт! Привет от коллеги из России!
I’ve always found that ‘floating’ drawer bottoms are annoying whenever they rattle when in use in lightly-filled drawers. For that reason and in lieu of using a liquid glue which is difficult to control in terms of getting good gap fill combined with ease of cleanup, I always run a very small bead of clear silicone along the ‘bottom’ corner of the long-side (only) rabbets prior to final assembly. The small silicone bead stays in place during final assembly and prevents any rattling while adding longitudinal shear strength to the drawer when in use.
There is a waaaay simpler method. Clamp the front of the drawer to the top of your bench so the narrow edge is flush to the edge of the bench. Then clamp the side of the drawer to the side of your workbench so it forms a 90° butt joint with the front. Set your domino to the appropriate thickness and depth, and bore your mortises through the sides into the fronts/backs in one go. If your vise is wide enough, you can put all four pieces on at once. No marking required, no vertical plunging, and only 8 operations instead of 16.
That's how I did my entertainment center drawers. Built the boxes, then added domino connections to keep them from "pulling apart" when you open the drawers. Worked well for me.
@@daveklein2826 I don't make videos. If you want to test the concept, go out to your shop and try it with a couple scraps of wood. It will take you longer to get your Domino out and set it up than to make your mortises. There is zero chance of a misalignment this way because you're boring both corresponding mortises simultaneously. If you don't like it, fine, do it Sedge's way. Woodworking should be about experimenting and finding what works best for you.
videos on ways to do bulk things in a fast and efficient way are always very helpful! If only we could still get the vac sys to really speed things up. I learned about it a few months ago and was very sad when I saw it's no longer available.
Grest build. For paint grade, always keep some of the pre-finished drawer sides and 1/4" (5mm) pre-finised plywood around. Boxes ready to be installed in 10 minutes, no waiting. Pretty joinery to the front, Pocket holes to the rear. Even replaced my mom's kitchen and her bathrooms drawer, with pull outs, years ago using this method. So you know it has to be good.
Thank you for the video, learned a lot. Are these the correct measurements for the Drawer Bottom? Groove for Drawer Bottom * 6mm deep * 12mm from bottom Drawer bottom dimensions * 10mm + Length of side piece * 10mm + Length of front/back piece
An alternative is just to butt-joint glue the box first, and then comeback with domino 700 which can mortise deeper holes. The dominos are now effectively fat wood nails.
Having recently takent the plunge (see what i did there) into the world of the domino. i am really enjoying your tips videos they are well made and full of useful information. I have learnt so much from them. more of the same please. Thank you very much.
Would love for you to do a video about using the Festool DF 500 Q-Plus Domino machine for a table top and the tops table legs being recessed into the bottom of the table top but held by glue and dominos. I can't seem to line up both precisely due to the recess I cut out using a Festool router. So the tops of the two table legs will have 5 recess dominos each fitting into 5 recessed domino holes in the bottom of a table top. Because of the small size of the legs, I can't fit the DF 500 into the recessed cutouts. I'm new at woodworking so it's not easy.
Well this is perfect timing 😂. I was literally just doing something similar today where I tried to do a through tenon. Except I did it wrong. But, I have more to do tomorrow, so I look forward to trying your method
Great video and technique. Now I want to get some Sipo dominos and try through versions. I recently made my first set of drawers using a dovetail jig with the OF1400, but this looks like a much faster version that offers a nice alternative.
Hey guys, I notice you use a lot of 3/4" material. I have a Domino 700 and I was wondering if there is anything wrong with using an 8mm bit (and an 8mm domino) for 3/4" material. I know that a lot of guys use the 5mm or 6mm because it's close to 1/3 the thickness of the material, but that's not an option for the DF700 ,and I see a lot of guys using 3/8" dowels for 3/4" material and that's half the width of the material. Any advice you could give would be great. Thank!
I know this is an old comment, but in the interest of helping others who might be in this situation…I have a Domino DF XL 700 and use the Seneca Woodworking RTS-500 adaptor which allows me to use the DF 500 cutters on the big machine. The adaptor can be purchased separately or as part of a kit that has a shim plate (for thinner mortise offsets) and an imperial depth gauge (for centring mortises in imperial material). I highly recommend this kit. If I was using dominos everyday I would own both machines, but the Seneca kit gives me the versatility I need.
I think through tenons are nice in theory, but the Domino doesn't make the cleanest hole profile. As shown at 18:59 you've also got some jagged edges on both the drawer face and the tenon. I guess you could sand it and add some glue/sawdust to fill, but then you're losing out on the pre-finished aspect. I almost think you're better off not doing through tenons with the Domino.
*sigh Another "easy" domino drawer build. Do you actually think that guys who would invest in a domino would need instruction on building a drawer? Behave yourself.
thanks for the awesome demo guys!
You bet!

Wicked cool !!!
I do like the contrasting color of the domino's. One of many ways to construct a drawer. Great video guys
Thanks Patrick !!!!!

This method you mentioned has never worked well for me ..... you should do a video on this technique....
Big red show us your video doing it your way

Thanks Sedge!! Loved that hotel key trick!
Thanks 🙏
Thank you for the video, learned a lot.
Are these the correct measurements for the Drawer Bottom?
Groove for Drawer Bottom
* 6mm deep
* 12mm from bottom
Drawer bottom dimensions
* 10mm + Length of side piece
* 10mm + Length of front/back piece
Yes, correct
Hey guys.... thanks for what you do.... very informative and very entertaining! You would be a great upgrade to This Old House!
That would be cool!
An alternative is just to butt-joint glue the box first, and then comeback with domino 700 which can mortise deeper holes. The dominos are now effectively fat wood nails.
OK
Thanks great vid …. Off to make my drawers …. Wicked! 😊
Have fun! Wicked Cool !!!
Great video. Have you had any experience using Domino's with pressure treated wood and what would be your recommendation. TIA
I have never used Dominos in PT ... but it is obviously for out doors so I would recommend the Sipo dominos for outside work !!
Having recently takent the plunge (see what i did there) into the world of the domino. i am really enjoying your tips videos they are well made and full of useful information. I have learnt so much from them. more of the same please. Thank you very much.

I have built this style drawer for my work shop. TSO has som amazing dog lock best toggle clamps that are so so fast for an operation like this,.
Thanks … going to try the TSO toggle clamps
I've been wanting to try the through domino, thanks for the great tips and motivation to go do it.
Glad we could help
I am making drawers that is 30x18x8.25. We are using poplar and 1/2 inch plywood for the bottom. When do you recommend to attach it to the bottom? Guy
if it is fitted with a groove then no need for attaching
Well this is perfect timing 😂. I was literally just doing something similar today where I tried to do a through tenon. Except I did it wrong. But, I have more to do tomorrow, so I look forward to trying your method
Rock on!
Thanks for the how to with through tenon drawers. The birch dominos would work as well, just not give the nice contrast in looks, right?
yes ...the birch dominos work GREAT... I like the Sipo Dominos for a better contrast !!!
Why not clamp the two pieces together and cut both mortices at the same time, from the outside of the drawer? I think I saw Jason Bent do it that way.
That method has never really worked well for me !!
Drew show us how you do it
Great video! Will use this in an upcoming project for sure. The contrasted dominos are really cool :-D Wicked sharp!
Wicked cool

As always, Thank You!
No worries!
Awesome 👏
Thanks
Very nice I like the look great job bruh 😎
I appreciate it Bruh !!!
HI thank you for your excellent video.
Thank you for watching
Great video but you forgot one thing. Measure the diagonals to see if its straight.
Good point 🤙
what size domino did you use?
5 x 30

using a 8mm domino is doable ...but ... it leaves a weak shoulder....I have seen woodworkers do this and it has worked well in cherry and white oak..
@@sedgetool got it! That makes sense. Thanks for responding!

What is the name of the drawer pre-finished lumber?
drawer box stock from any cabinet supply house... no particular brand
36 and 20 on any width drawer stock?
This is the settings I Use for 100mm stock
Love the videos. You guys need some mics though. That background humming and your echo'y voices are a bit distracting.
We have upgraded since ..Thank you 🙏
