    My husband had quadruple bypass 5 years ago but of course was on a statin and blood pressure meds. After 5 years of symptoms that mimiced all that he had before surgery. He had many tests and was told "it wont kill you" but was so worrysome and affected his ability to work full time and eventually just endured thru each day. After much research, he stopped the statin and Losartan around the beginning of Dec. 2023. I am NOT saying to quit meds, but if you have unusual symptoms, at least check with your Dr. He will be 12 weeks this coming wed. Of none of hideous symptoms. We are low carb/keto and will do bloodwork soon to check levels. We check his blood pressure and home and its very good. Do your own homework. Thank you for the info Dr. Berry

      I have 2 stents put a year ago and have 2 arteries still at 30% that they didn't fix. I stopped taking my statin cold turkey and now my LDL and trigs are high. My doctor is freaking out and wants me back on the Lipitor.

      @@lisabenedict2615 Sounds like me. Being a Boomer, I trusted my doc implicitly. Apparently on a statin for a long time before my heart attack, in fact went off of them 6 months before my heart attack. I am now back on them but am suspicious & my cardiologist doesn't ascribe to the inflammation damage explanation (apparently). I keep posting on what is the effectiveness of statins post-heart attack & responses seem murky. I have 4 stents and enjoy the technology (Dad had triple bypass at 51) but really wish there was something more solid. I have a clotting disorder which complicates matters.

    A little more than four years ago I began my keto/carnivore journey. Since then I haven't had any bad blood test results, but the doc wants to put me on a statin, I think because of my age, 65. There are no Keto docs in my area. This is the second doc I've had in this practice, it was a struggle to get the first one on board, but when she saw the test results after the first 3-4 months of this woe, she congraulated me on advocating for my own health, told me most people want a pill or surgery, now I have to start over with a doc who seems to be stuck on the generally excepted standard of care which could seriously affect my health in a negative way. I'm very greatful for the community that supports good health to help me stay on track

    • @eringo-bragh4243

      Congrats on finding a sympathetic doctor, I looked up Keto docs in my area & the one that came up died a few months ago but was at a specialty clinic. Have generally not been impressed with docs in general especially after discovering Keto, looking for a new cardiologist after my heart attack with no expectation of positive results since I have yet to run into a doc that doesn't have a med only perspective.

    grew up eating liver, now eat beef liver coated with pork panko and paprika, fry in tallow or lard. hot cast iron skillet 1-2 min per side, throw in 1/4 cup chopped onion with the second side let them char and caramelize a little. leave the liver slightly pink in the middle, very soft that way...yum I always try and have some after donating blood, replace some iron.

    • @martinlang9615
      @martinlang9615 5 місяців тому +1

      Try to go easy on the high heat when cooking in lard. I’m not sure about lard, but I do know seed oils (“vegetable oils”) oxidise once they go past it’s “smoke point” as heaps of toxins are released at that point.
      I know lard has about half the smoke point of tallow.
      Around 190 degrees C versus Tallow on around 420 degrees C, which is a huge difference.
      Oxidation is a bit like how steel turns to rust.
      I’d like to know this for sure myself-if
      Heating Lard (and Tallow) past it’s smoke point makes it toxic.
      My gut feeling says no, but I have not heard any mention of it so far.
      I’m sticking with Tallow though.

      Hi silentrunner - could you tell me what pork panko is please - crumbled pork rind ?

    • @silentrunner3067
      @silentrunner3067 5 місяців тому

      I usually use tallow, but I'm not very concerned about that. I dump the grease after one use. I think your smoke point numbers are in error, Google finds 185C vs 205C, not that big a difference. In any case, a little blackening and char is the hole point. I don't consider it "toxic", but to each his own. Any browning at all is caused by oxidation, so yes it is oxidized. @@martinlang9615

    Been watching y'all for a few weeks now since I started my journey. Long story but October 2023 was told by a NP from my insurance company that I was prediabetic(diabetes runs in my family mother had shots in her eyes once a month and her mother was a double amputee) so I was very concerned. I discussed it with my doctor. I was already on six medications for various issues. His response was it was nothing to worry about... Three months later I am full blown diabetic, thyroid out of wack, cholesterol high and D3 too low so they add 4 new meds including Metformin. I immediately started researching and over night cut out the carbs. After two weeks I felt like I was dying. My daughter in law suggested Dr Berry's channel. Y'all are true life saviors. I have learned so much from y'all and have a long way to go. Still working it out started out keto to ketovore and past three days BBBE think it's been the best on straight conivore. Know your question was do you like liver and my answer is Yes Yes Yes! Grew up eating beef liver and onions fried then steamed til tender. Also fried chicken liver was a treat in my family, it was better than eating chips. I could eat some sort of liver every day!!!!

    I've got white marks on 5 of my finger nails. The only thing that I can put it down to is that it happened due to a car accident that I had (nobody hurt) and went into shock and then experienced about 6 weeks of high stress. It may be a correlational and not causation but I thought you might be interested to hear of my experience with this. I've been low carb since Oct 2021 and the only food that I had different at that time was some kiwi fruit (one a day for 5 days), the rest of my diet was very much the same as normal.

    Another easy way to increase the liver in your diet if you or your family do not like the taste is to partially cook a small amount of liver (cooking first makes chopping the liver easier and quicker), chop it up, and mix it in ground beef or gournd turkey/chicken, before cooking. No one has to know but you that they are eating liver. A small amount of liver will not change the taste of ground beef or ground poultry especially if you add spices to your ground meat.

    I periodically get scintillating scotomas. Nothing to do with eyes. It’s a benign neurological issue in brain often connected to migraines. I don’t get migraines. SS are similar to a migraines but with a manifestation in visual perception rather than causing pain. They should go away within 15 -20 minutes. Perceived visual pattern should progressively move to fringes of visual field. Closing eyes doesn’t help and moving eyeballs around doesn’t change anything because original of condition is not in eye or optic nerve.

    Dr Berry, I enjoy and appreciate your content. I’m getting ready to purchase the “Lies your doctor told you” book. You have another book “Kicking ass over 50”, but it’s for men. Would you please do the same book for women?

    Anyone have ideas for reversing or at least stopping the progression of calcified plaque in coronary arteries? Long-term ketovore eater, off statin 2 years ago, but Doc wants me back on them.
    I'll do anything from a lifestyle perspective to avoid the Rx. TIA

    Seeing positve results on Carnivore - migrated from Keto, labs were not quite getting there. TG's kept going up on Carnivore, adopted a modified marcro recommended. It brought my TG's down, finally! and my HDL's up. Once they are in line can go back to recommended macros for most doing carnivore. Fasting insulin 4.4! also finally went down. Something that has happened is TSH went high, T3 went down. Been on meds for a while, good numbers for years, now they want to raise them up. Keeping fingers crossed carnivore heals this at some point. On carnivore - (cheat sometimes once a month or so on Ketovore), for 5 months now. Completely reveresed my Prediabetes. Have been hypoglycepic and IR for decades, neither my MDs or NDs ever recommended anything but a lot of fruits and veggies. So done and over that.

    26:00 I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was in my 20s, just because the oral surgeon said they needed to come out. I wasn't having any pain or other symptoms. I wish now that I'd left them alone. I can't remember where I heard this from, and maybe it's wrong, but I heard that wisdom teeth tend to be crooked and then straighten up if they're going to erupt.
    If it was my almost 17 year old son, I'd tell him not to bother unless he's having pain. Not worth the week on antibiotics, time off work/school, and not being able to eat properly.

    I was raised eating liver and onions. I’m from the south and I loved it but I have not eaten it since I’ve been out on my own which has been 45 years but I would love to start eating it again but I’m in California not real sure where to find what I’m looking for, or even how to cook it. I’m sure with enough research I can find both but I do miss liver and onions.

      Check out UA-cam videos to see how to prepare liver. You can find everything about anything on UA-cam. Microwaving does not work unless you grind the liver into small particles. Otherwise your microwave will be a mess with liver all over the sides and base of the microwave.

Im wondering Dr. Berry if Ketovore diet can make these polyps smaller or at least prevent them from getting bigger. Ive been on the diet for 11 days now and feeling great.
