      Thank you! Much appreciated, I never know if or how this can positively impact others, it’s always nice to know. The jams keep me going as well. Used to touring and never had this much time off the road, but been very busy with all kinds of stuff. More new jam tracks coming soon too!

    Every Artist needs a canvas. Every Musician needs an audience. The strain of not being able to perform live wears on all of us bluesmen. I admire how well you translate that strain through the harp; and make the instrument speak your truth.
    Your fellow Harp Players encourage you to keep the faith.

    As always , good fun and instructive. I enjoyed jamming with you - playing the reg D in 3rd when you were playing A and playing the A when you were playing high D. This helps make up for not being able to play with others during this damndemic.

    You are badass, loving this! At 3:00 I heard you begin a tongue slap. The draw chord sounded like maybe the draw three reed has been flatted a half step to C. Is that what I am hearing or are you doing something else? I alter some of my harps' draw three as described using BluTac. I love the layout and the new chord[s]. Whatever it is you did here, it's just great. Thanks so much for sharing, hang tough. Peace.

      @@DennisGruenling So, you say the low D has not had its draw three lowered by a half step? Then what is that I hear beginning at 3:00 minutes? That chord is normally not available on a harp unless the three draw has been flatted. Please, fill us in, thanks.

      @@roberttemple2521 At that spot I am playing a 2-5 draw tongue trill. The flat 3rd you hear at that point is the 5 draw. I do not use altered tuning harps. Thanks for asking!!

    I didnt understand... youre using a D harmonica playing com an E minor blues, is that it? Isnt it dorian E? Jonian D... equals dorian E? Or not? I can play like this... I mean... an A harmonica to play blues minor B, and G harmonica to play A minor blues, and so on...???
    I am just begining to learn harmonica dont judge me please...

    • @DennisGruenling
      @DennisGruenling  3 роки тому +1

      No judging at all here, ever. I have been teaching for a long time, and I taught myself.
      Yes, a D harmonica to play in E minor. Regardless of minor or not, a D harmonica played in E is 3rd position. The harmonica has many notes you need to bend in order to actually play (as opposed to a guitar where bending is an option but not needed to hit a note). The modes such a Dorian don’t really apply (although some people use the terms) because even though SOME of the tuning of the harp fits that mode, the mode isn’t strictly used by itself and while playing harp you also will bend to get some notes. In addition, the tuning of the harp is different in different parts of the harmonica, so there’s not really modes built in the harp anyway.
      I also don’t know any harp players (and very few musicians aside from real serious jazz players) who use modes to play. It’s nice to understand them if you want to play different types of music, but in blues it’s not really used. Harp players will use the modal terms when speaking sometimes but it’s almost always a surface level use according to the tuning on part of the harp, not a mode that they strictly use to play in.
      Just think of it as 3rd position. It’s a fourth up from the 2nd position harmonica key.
