This is in store only, I think. I paid 279 for the brad nailer. The 8ah was free. So 279 total. The max refund is listed on the receipt for each item. So I just returned the 8ah for 116 and I kept the brad nailer for 163.
They're both strong. get the tool from the brand you already have at home. If you don't then gauge it based on what tool you like to have and see which brand fits your needs. most of these tools are strong. Minor details between them. For example, i went with milwaukee bc they were the had a lot of good tools for mechanics. I got their m12 and m18 bc of it. But i've expanded to their wood working tools as well. However, Milwaukee don't have a track saw, so i added the Makita track saw.
@Jonh Smith . The hack will only work if both items you want are available in the Home Depot store you're shopping. So the popular items (router and brad nailer) may be sold out. You have to check each store close to you to see if they have both the "buy me get the other item free" for it to work for you. Like TB says, we only have three days left (January 31) before the new Q2 Milwaukee promotion begins. Hope that helps.
How do you know when certain combo kits come with a free tool? I legit went down the whole list, and didn't see it say anything bout free gift/tool. Even 1 said "custom options available" but that was adding the tool, in a non hack able way. So my question is, how do u know which has free gift that can be hacked? Do you legit have to click on each combo and see if it overs a gift w/purchase?

They discount each item a certain percentage to still get you $399 for the kit and extra tool. It's a marketing promo. But the hack is bc you can return the kit and still keep the other item due to it being charged separately.

If an m12 comes to work with me then it's going to get punished the whole day trying to drive a 7/8ths shipwrights auger through two-by lumber. But at the same time- Milwaukee doesn't make an m12 router or an m18 soldering iron (or laser level...)

@@liisrandom okay... well... as far as automotive- i rarely use power tools unless it's for lug nuts (m18 3/8 or 1/2 impact) or maybe raising my truck bed to replace a fuel pump (m18 impact with 1/4 quick-change to socket adapter)... otherwise m12 would be fine probably. Home- if you're building a deck or hanging a TV... probably go m18 for bigger-than-3/8ths lag-bolts. m12 would build a fence, but m18 would mind all those screws far less. m12 will work to drive lags for a TV hang... probably... but it still won't like doing it.

Just one of the xc5 batteries would get through most anything you'd need or a couple cp3 batteries for 2 tools or one using, one charging... Point is- you don't need to make a huge jump... mainly, you're buying into a battery platform and adding tools in top. I started with a porter-cable 20v drill/impact kit... ended up with 8 batteries, vacuum, radio, 2 lights, recip saw, oscillating tool, 3 chargers, a charger/battery bag, 2 dead drills, 2 dead impacts... But because I still have the vac, recip, oscillating... I can keep using those while building out my milwaukee tool collection... instead of replacing the porter-cable multi-tool, I got the m18 rotozip. Instead of replacing the recip with a sawzall, I got the m18 router... rotozip and router being tools I didn't have at all...

I have a Hitachi brushed 12v drill and it can't keep up so I'm looking to upgrade. And I already have a 6ah xc battery I can use with the m12 if I need more power. Thank you for your input!

The mod I do is have the item you want as in store pick-up, and the item you don’t want as ship to home, you then can go in and cancel the ship to home item only.

It only looks like they charge you for it, the final price stays at 399 whether you pick the free tool or not. the hack is so that you get two sku's on the receipt and can take back the "Free tool" and that reduces the 399 to 275 for the combo if that's what you want, or 119, etc for the "Free tool" vs the original price you'll pay all day in store/online.
