  • NEW MILWAUKEE M12 ROVER LIGHT/CHARGER (What Were They Thinking!?) In this video we show the #verycoolgang a brand new Milwaukee M12 ROVER 700 Lumen Service & Repair Flood Light w/ USB Charging. We want to know what were they thinking when they decided to release this new service and repair flood light with only 700 lumens max on an M12 battery when we can easily get 1100 lumens on our usb redlithium rechargeable flashlights. Let us know your thoughts on this new Milwaukee M12 ROVER Service & Repair Flood Light w/ USB Charging (2367-20) and if you think they could have made it better or you know what they were thinking by releasing this light down in the comments section.

If you're a service tech (plumber, hvac, electrician, etc) working in a small place or working on a piece of equipment, 700 lumens is MORE than adequate. When you're a service tech all you want is good light in a small package that won't die on you when you're in a crawl space or force you to go back to the van to get something else. This light is perfect for that and I think that was their intent.

I use my M12 rover light everyday and love it. I’m an electrician. Working above drop ceilings. Lighting up small rooms. Lighting up the general area where I’m working. Or when I’m on a scissor lift. It works all day and then some. The run time and lumens is great. Magnetically sticks to any steel around. And fits in my tool bag perfectly. Well worth every penny.

For auto mecanic its perfect most light are in the 400 lumen so 700 lumen is great even the 250 lumen mode is enough and you can leave it on all work day

Alright Vince, I can personally say I am pumped about this light. Most of your expertise is in the construction field, NOT so much the car accessory field. I install remote starts all day through winter. I currently use the 550 lumen 4V Rover, but battery changing is a pain. The higher lumen lights are too big for under a dash and you need a light this size to coordinate placement while working. Flashlights are too narrow a field for use and can't be set down. I think your opinion is narrowed to your field. Keep it up though, love how critical you are!

@@legros731 Of course it isn't useful for job site lighting. Why are people trying to compare this to an M18 Rocket light? It is designed for small spaces, not to light up your entire job site. That is like asking why Milwaukee makes an M12 compact cut off tool when tools like a 10" table saw or a 12" dual bevel sliding compound miter saw will have a much better cutting capacity. You're spot on here. There is such thing as too much light and Milwaukee has a winner here. I will use the hell out of this under the dash of a car or under a sink where too much light will just make glare unbearable, and a smaller/brighter flashlight that gets hot and chews through batteries is impractical for extended periods of work. Vince even said in this very video that trying to be good at too many things means you wont be very good at one. This light is very good at it's intended design purpose, and other lights are very good for their intended design purpose.

I got this light a month ago and I agree with Ken. This light works great for working on panels and close work in dark areas. It’s not bright on high and can run all day with 4.0. Haven’t used the charger and didn’t buy it for that so it’s just a bonus. I see what your saying about utilizing the faster charger but since it has Milwaukee’s name on it, it would cost more for that feature. When working under the hood, working under the vehicle while it’s jacked up, even just changing the tire this light has been AMAZING. Don’t get me wrong bigger is always better, but 700 lumens lights up my entire front yard. I find I’m using it on low for most tasks when the light is 2-6 feet from my work. Personally, I love huge lumen ratings, but I refuse to use them if they kill my battery. For instance my Olight can do 1,600 lumens for two minutes. Then the battery steps down the run time significantly. I rarely ever use the highest mode because I’m not interested in draining the battery in a matter of minutes. 8 hours of runtime on 70” lumens is mind blowing to me. Lights up a medium sized room, and 8 hours is a long time. I couldn’t be happier with this light.

I work as an industrial electrician and I'd rather have a light that ran all day than one that burned ultra bright. If I need mega, mega bright light on one spot I'll just get my headtorch. I can't use a flashlight while I work because I need both hands and I need the light where my hands are, not shining on the back of my head. I dont want to have to run through batteries all day. I really want them to update the M18 rover with newer LED's so I can buy it. I'm hoping that's what is next on their list. Being able to tell the difference between brown, black and blue is important to me, mainly so I dont blow up panels. The older guys on site genuinely struggle if they have a bad colour light as their eyes are past their prime.

Not sure I agree with you the rover is designed more for mechanics to light up a 5ft x 5ft area at at close range with out cords, hands free, and without taking up space like some of the bigger lights. Where as a flash light its designed not only to light up areas close to you but far away. Honestly you don't need 1100 lumens to light up an area close to you that is over kill. You need those lumens to light up far away. If you need that much light for close up get a big flood light. The flash light is not hands free so if you want to use both hands to work you have to lay it down or hold it in your mouth. I think it is more than adequate to do the job it was designed to do.

But I gotta say I was thinking right away what many of the commentors were saying which was the light is designed as a task light with long run time in mind. And a quality long running task light is pretty valuable for those that gotta work in the dark often especially in tight spaces. A lot of times a headlamp or flashlight just doesnt cut it. I love my Dewalt DCL044 task light for its capability and compact portability and this Milwaukee light looks like its a step up for the Milwaukee guys. Oh and to you Milwaukee guys, notice I said sometimes up top 😉 because I do think that Milwaukee makes some quality stuff. I feel like they were going for a WORK LIGHT. Like one that can run at max output for a full work shift. If they went to 1000 or 1100 lumens but sacrificed runtime. Then to get through the day you'd need a 6.0 or a few 4.0 ah. I have a pocket light that's 2800lumens but it only runs about 20 minutes at that output. Not very practical but it is nice having the output at times I suppose.

The advantage of the Milwaukee is when it dies, you can just swap a fully charged battery into it. You've got to wait for your little flashlight to charge before you can use it again. I don't think you're too critical though. They should've at least added a tiny Bluetooth speaker or something into this one; if they're gonna skimp on the lumens and no rapid charging, they need something else in it.

Bad rant. I think they got it right. You don't need over 1K lumens for task lighting. Not giving more light than needed and more battery life is what they were likely thinking. As soon as I see one on sale, I'll have it.

I think raw output in lumens isn't as useful in a light that is supposed to illuminate a work area (like under a car for example) that is in close proximity, too much light just washes things out. I agree that they could have upgraded the usb port to provide more amperage.

Agreed.. I collect O- light flashlights/ headlights..to me they're the most well-made out there with the magnetic charging Etc and have earned their cult-like following...
I have some flashlights that are big and thick 2500 lumens and have Olight Warriors & Warrior X that are 1500 lumens and will absolutely put the higher 250p lumen to shame in every aspect flood throw brightness Etc...
Perhaps Candela is a better measurement but for right now everyone uses lumens..
tell me if you agree, but you really don't know how bright or how much you will like a light into you get it in your hands despite what the Lumen output says..
for example if I want a really bright light, I can end up with a 1500 or 1800 Lumen instead of 2500 lumen because it was brighter & provided the right amount of throw, flood, etcetera..

Brightness is one thing, light coverage is another. I have this rover light and a Milwaukee flashlight, 2 totally different ball games. I live in Oklahoma, we experience power outages whether it's from tornados, ice storms or wind, this rover light along with a few other Milwaukee M12 and M18 lights came in handy when we had a tornado do a lot of damage to homes and power lines surrounding me, this USB on the Rover light came in handy keeping our phones charged keeping in contact with family, that flashlight would've shown me where the toilet is but that's about it.

Did you actually use it in a dark room to do work to see if it was bright enough yet before making your comments? You did not do so in your video. You may have discovered the 700 is more than enough for the application and the complaint was not warranted. This is a smaller light and might be more practical in tighter or smaller places. You can always go to a bigger light or a m18 light in bigger spaces anyway. This is more compact to carry and store than the m12 or m18 rover. For a brighter light then you can use the bigger m12 rover, and the m18 rover which will have the advantage of more battery capacity. Plus there are the m12 and m18 lanterns as well.

Hi Guys!!! Vince, your points on this lights are right on the mark! It's another example of Milwaukee having a good idea, but just missing the mark. The same can be said for the plastic railing on the new Milwaukee two-wheel dolley. Milwaukee should definitely increase the lumens on this light. Any M12 battery could support more lumens in addition to supporting the USB features at the same time. And, why isn't the USB-C port fast charging? It should be. I wish that light had a hook, and the light swiveled in an additional circular motion to give more flexibility. And lastly, why does Milwaukee still sale an M18 flashlight for $49 at Home Depot that has only 160 lumens and an M18 LED light stick ($55) that is 300 lumens? I love the design of those M18 lights, but the prices they demand for those lumens is ridiculous! Increase the lumens Milwaukee and give us more bang-for-the-buck!!!

  • @mak450
    @mak450 3 роки тому +1

I think the point of this compared to a regular, brighter lumen flashlight is endurance. Not just the battery, but all those little LEDs are probably doing less work than that one big LED in that other light. So it oughta run cooler and longer whiteout having to lower it's output because the LED is getting too hot, and have a longer service life. That's what I'm assuming anyway.
As far as the USB out? no arguments here.

  • @BLASTIC0

Regardless of the connector on the end of the cable, the USB type A port USB 2.0, has a max amp output of 2.4, rarely is there a usb type A 3.0 port, which can do up to 3amp, usually has a green or blue or purple colored port where the usb 2 is white on the inside. A usb type C port on both ends, can go up to 20v 5amp 100w, if both devices support it, that is why many laptops can now use USB to charge.
The adapter cable Vince used will work, but only at the 2.4 amps, meaning it will charge very slowly, if the device supports fast/quick charging, it will not provide enough power for that and it will charge ‘slow mode’. Something like an iPad Pro, it will not charge at all, as the iPad needs more than 2.4 amp just to run, so it still uses some of the battery when it is plugged in.

Love the look of this light can’t wait for them to be available in the uk. I think 700 lumens is plenty for its size especially for working in tight spaces or working on boilers, under the hood of cars. I like a previous comment about if it was brighter it would shine back at you and make it harder to see also it’s go the runtime for if your doing a boiler install 8hrs on a bad day. honestly if you need more then get a rocket or m18 rover.

The only reason why I can think of why they did that is for a full shift light, and no overheating. I am a car electrician and that might be handy, not too strong, not too light, won't heat up when I can sometimes have it right beside my face and can some times need to be on for a long time in small dark places.
But I totally agree with Vince, why they didn't do it future proof, like are they scared or they wanna us to buy that one and than another one?

True the light is built in such a way that the expectation that it should be brighter is reasonable. The size of the light dictates where and how the light will be used. Do you really want 1000 or more lumens inside a cabinet or under a dash? The unit is plenty strong for how I intend to use it. Do I think that milwaukee released it, the way it is leaving room for improvements and a gen 2 ? Absolutely.

You're not being too critical. I have a LOT of lights, several Milwaukee. My daily "go-to" is a pair of Milwaukee USB Rechargeable Pivoting Flashlights. I have many others and I grab those more often than any other. I agree, I was hoping that a smallish M12 from Milwaukee would finally have plenty of lumens and this one misses the mark. I know the Pivot is only 500 (spot), but I frequently use it on low flood which is only 100! When I need more light I use 2500 and 3000 lumen lights for "real" work. But day-to-day for tasks I've been surprised that 2 Pivots cover a lot of situations.

I think this light is very well rounded, size, weight, run time, output, features and functions...perfect if youre moving from one spot to the next and can just put in your bag or back pocket in your highvis vest...run time is good for me as I only really need it the first 2 to 3 hours of the day maybe last hour or if im in a dark area...phone get used up a lot too so having this as a charger on the go is also great. I think this is a winner. If its not enough light i have my 600 lumen hardhat milwaukee head lamp for extra lighting. I do agree however it seems like they chinsed out by setting the bar low for this one and i believe its to extract more money later down the road by making that gen 2 1000 plus lumens, more light settings etc. Scumbag move on their part but what can we do?

The light not being USB-C 'Quick Charge' compatible is definitely a function of COST and keeping the light at a price point.
They probably did research and had focus groups and found that 2.1A charging is good enough for what most people are going to be using this light/charger for - keeping their phone from going dead while working.
Quick charging generates heat and requires more sophisticated electronics that cost more - probably would have put the cost of the light over $100 or more - they already have lights at that price point that put out more LUUUMENS.
Speaking of LUUUMENS - 700 is plenty - 250 is probably adequate for an electrician or plumber or HVAC guy working in a dark area on a service call or doing an install...especially with the 'True View" temperature of light.
Probably fine for a guy that's gonna be wiring up a panel indoors and needs light, but also wants to play music off of their phone while they work.
All that being said, I agree that it's lame that Milwaukee isn't cutting edge or even CURRENT with their product line when it comes to what's out there for mobile devices.
