Wow Steve, did you get a new microphone? Way Clearer and crisper sound. Thanks for the great report as always. You've helped me big time on the delta this season. Appreciate all you do, thank you!
Largie bite was tough last Saturday. Got 1 keeper striper near Sherman island. Found some crappie near Brannan State Park so I started throwing this itty bitty strike king crank bait. Had a 4+ pound largie crush it but popped off close to the boat. Blaming the tiny hooks on that one, but it seems like that one only bit because they were feeding on small bait. Hopefully they start crushing the bigger baits soon for me!
Fished the bass hole tournament. As always had a good time caught a lot of fish using jerk bait and Robo worms. Just can’t get the size to weigh in ,all shorts, but lots of action., thanks for the report. Camoguy
Hey Steve thanks for the report! What reel gear ratio do you recommend for a chatterbait set up? Been using a 7:1, but wondering if it is a bit too fast of a retrieve. Thanks!
Hi JJ, I actually like a high speed reel when fishing bladed jigs like the donkey slayer because on about a third of your bites the vibration just seems to “disappear” for a moment. When that happens you need to catch up fast and set hard because more times than not it’s the bigger fish that have inhaled the lure. You can slow down your retrieve with a fast reel but you can’t speed up a slow one. I personally fish a Tatula Zillion reel in a 8.5 gear ratio paired with 50lb braid on my bigger chatterbait rod just for this reason. -Coach Ted

Ik im not steve lol but i like a 6:1, easier to work it slower and keep it down and in the right water column. Hope this helps
