Gold jerkbaits are my favorite color patterns on the Delta. If the bass are not focused on Shad or Blugill, I think Golden Shiner Minnows which our Delta has plenty of round. Some times when I'm fly fishing for panfish, I've caught Golden Shiner Minnows up to 14" long before.
@@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997 Caught 40+ fish today! Started at Rivers End Marina and worked my way towards Coney Island, going through West canal -> Old River. The day started at low tide and so I threw a wacky senko, incoming tide I used a Megabass Oneten Jr 1+ Matte Shad (The fish couldn’t keep away from it!) along the rip rap. After fishing around Coney Island I went around looking to punch and picked up a few more solid fish. Overall I was able to get a lot of 2-3 lbers with the occasional dinks and 1 small Striper.
good explanation and discussion on how to fish and modify the hard jerkbait. Fished the delta many years ago (1976 - 1979) from the shore and an old wooden boat enjoyed the video

@@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997 thanks for asking. I have been trying to be patient while my brand new boat gets trailer repaired and proper transducer installed. I have had it over a month, only 6 hours on motor so far. I hope it is water ready by next week.
Hey Steve, always good info...but I'm curious, in the mods section of the vid, you showed a +1 and he talked about matting the paint, adding a red gill mark, and hooks; the example you were showing looked like it had a broken bill or was that a purposely shortened bill (somewhere around 11:00)? There was no mention of it but I noticed the example had almost no bill. Just curious. Thanx as always!!
That was just a broken bill. Common on Megabass jerk baits. Don't break off the bill. Let me know next time you will be at PP and I will make a field meet.
@@tdhow I like modifying my lures and trying new stuff. Fish will bite most anything. One night I learned my lesson on split rings. God has a funny bone N got me good on a group of huge stripper. Floating jerk baits are great in the right place. You can use a floater as a top water, some times when the fish are busting and they just don't seem to hit a top water try a floating jerkbait. Twitching it just a few inches below the surface can make a big difference. Also try a floater on the delta at low tide on flats in one to two feet of water. Good luck-thanks for watching.
@@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997 Thanks for the info. I use floating jerkbaits for stripers in the American River...lost too many suspending baits by getting them stuck in rip-rap walls....just didn't know if they would work over grass flats, etc... in the Delta. Thanks again.
I left a few jerk baits for you at the marina P.P.M. Have you tried them. The striped ones luv them. Change the split rings N Hooks out Coop! The Big Ones Love The Sound
I always learn so much from your videos Steve. My go-to channel when I can’t catch fish. You rock! 😊 🎣
Thanks G. Let me know if you want to do a collab video.
Thanks Guys, just the right information I need

100%. Gold Rapala Husky jerks especially when the shiners are spawning
Thanks Steve and Ted! As always some great info!
Thanks for watching Bill.
Good info guys, thanks and have a good day.
Thanks for the support Gary.
Launching out of Rivers end tomorrow. 3rd time ever on the delta but after watching your videos I feel confident, thanks Steve!
Let me know how you do. I have been off the river for a week and hear that the river has been a bit tough so keep at it. Good Luck.

How does Ted remove the shine from the jerk bait. Does he scrape it with a tool.
Thanks for sharing what you know on jerk baits. 😎🤙

Do you guys change out the split rings for the striper
Yes. I always change out all my jerkbaits to owner hyper wire split rings

Do you ever switch to RED hooks as an attraction ?
Do you always use suspending baits, or is there a place where you would use a floating bait?
