IMHO there is no purpose to compare these two because they belong to different categories. Charge 5 is for smaller spaces and not so intrusive listening. Xtreme 3 is for open space parties parties. I own Charge 5 and I've listened Xtreme 3. In lower volume, charge 5 will sound better because of clear mids and highs and Xtreme will sound muffled. Charge 5 is reasonably loud but at higher volume, Charge 5 will start reducing bass and boost other frequencies which will produce unpleasant mids and highs. At higher volumes Xtreme will show it's real purpose: To produce strong sound for medium to bigger parties where sound quality is not primary. Conclusion: Charge 5: is better for smaller to mid spaces, good for listening music, where sheer loudness is not recommended. Xtreme 3 is best for blasting dancing music in mid to big spaces without neighbors.
Based on this demo the difference is night and day. I recently purchased the Charge 5 and I get the same feeling listening to it live compared to your demo. Of course, this is all a matter or preference and dependent on people's budgets. For me, I'm going to see if I can exchange it for the Extreme 3. Thanks!
The charge 5 is a little less loud then the extreme 3. it cost way less $150-125 less. But the difference in size is another thing to. The winner in my book is the charge 5.
xtreme 3 gets WAY louder than charge 5, which means it has WAY more power. put both of them outside and turn them to max volume and you will see the 150 dollar difference.. especially with the bass when you have them configured correctly with the right EQ's and LF modes. charge 5 is a mono speaker also. xtreme 3 is true stereo. huge difference. i have both and they are hugely different side by side. i cant even use my charge 5 outside.. won't get loud enough. boombox is still by far the best. i'd pay 1000 dollars for a boombox. they sound that good. charge 5 is good for the bathroom.. xtreme 3 is good for the golf cart, and boombox is incredible for parties and outdoors. i have partybox 300 too and it has VERY slightly more bass than boombox, but has almost exactly the same loudness. i am very disappointed with partybox 300. cant do firmware updates from usb, and it should get so much louder than boombox and it just doesn't at all and boombox is 1/3rd the size.
I have both - Extreme 3 and Charge 5. Yes, Xtreme 3 is more powerfull, but based on size differences between Charge5, I expected bigger sound difference between Xtreme 3 and Charge 5. Xtreme 3 is easy to take with you if you are walking around and listening music , but when I should take with me in some trip and store in bag, I always choose Charge 5. For Charge 5 battery is much better, no stupid silicon cover for charging port and sound is amazing compared to compact size. My suggestion - go for Charge 5 and save some money. Cheers ;-)
Bass at lower volume is better with the Charge 5, but the rich and broad sound the xtreme 3 offers at max volume is what I'm paying for. That 100 extra you pay for will pay dividens on at a bonfire, or at the beach with the wind blasting it. Thanks for the review!!
Tbh extreme 2 outdoors isn't loud outdoors that's why my favorite speaker outdoors is bb2 and I feel like the extreme 2 is a good bathroom/indoor speaker
A very clear and professional test! ..and I'm with you on the logo - way too large. There seems to be a frequency variation based on where the speakers are made. Can you see what the first two letters of the serial number are on your Charge 5, ND or TL? (-different factories).
Xtreme 3 has 2 full range drivers and 2 tweeters and able to reproduce stereo sound, compared to Charge 5 that has only 1 full range driver and 1 tweeter. It is not a fair battle, stereo speaker vs mono one, regardless the power.
common sense would tell you that it wasn't meant to be a "fair" comparison. The test is to show the gap from the step up on lineup and that is the extreme 3 from the charge 5. They sound pretty close and the charge 5 wins due to being half the price
CORRECT! I for compact portability with quality the the charge 5 is AWSOME for louder more stereo sound with base still portable but not compact the extreme 3 is great also depends what you want it for
I have access to both of these. Charge 5 is really a close range (under 15ft) or indoor speaker, bass falls flat at >50% vol. If you're going outdoors absolutely go Xtreme 3. It's way better than Charge 5 outdoors. If size & money are no object, just get the Boombox for outdoors, but the Xtreme 3 is a good middleground, especially if you can pick it up on sale for around $200 like it often is.
I have the jbl xtreme 3 and my sister has the charge 5. And the xtreme 3 does sound better but it really doesn’t get much much louder than the charge 5 and i was really surprised by that. (But if you are far from the speakers there is in fact a bigger difference and the xtreme 3 does sound much louder compared to the charge 5)
Why is nobody putting db Level in the video with manual pre amp so that the loudest speaker at 100 % is close to maximum nearly clipping audio. And then it is easy to see how much we can expect, from both.
But when paired you can't change the bass or any other settings and sometimes the charge actually sounds better bass wise when slightly below the middle setting.

Charge 5 for me winner. It has a thump in the bass while the extreme reminds me of a ported woofer box in mini trucks of the 80's. The highs on the extreme sound higher though.

My nephew bought the charge 5 for Christmas with the update and i got the extreme 3 and it sounds alot more full, more bass and doesnt die as quick compared to the charge 5 that dies quick to make it loud on full compared to half volume of the extreme 3. Jbl knows what they made and knows why they charge more for the extreme 3 over the charge 5. Hear both back to back in person is the only full way of understanding the differences.

I thought I was hearing like compressed audio, but I read up on it & it only supports sbc codec Bluetooth which means that's pretty much exactly what I was hearing. This morning I tested it with an aux & it sounded night & day perfect to my ears. Does the charge support aux?

A few songs sounded fizzy but i changed the songs i was hearing on by the same artist same song just different youtube accounts and sounded way better, so wasnt the speakers fault. Charge has no aux. Im not being biast at all just being honest from my experience. Im satisfied!
Thanks for the comparison I recently grabbed the boombox 3 & I love it. I want to get a smaller JBL to be more portable as the bBox 3 is lrg. Made for patio life. Keeping the bBox in one spot while having a portable option that connects to the same source makes sense. especially for life on the road. Think the extreme 3 is a good quick portable option.
i would say no as far as power is concerned. not even close. xtreme 2 has 2x the bass just like xtreme 3 over charge 5. charge 5 has more clarity on the high end though than xtreme 2. not xtreme 3 though.
Size is also a factor, JBL Xtreme 2 have a bigger cabinet, bigger drivers and bigger passive radiators, and therefore produce a bigger sound / bigger bass (not necessarily louder, but bigger, with more presence)

Может кому-то будет полезно, по поводу что лучше, решил я вообщем купить себе новую колонку, была у меня до этого чардж 3, посмотрел что есть в магазине, и увидел что самое новое это чардж 5, не думая купил себе чёрную сборка tl, послушал не несколько дней и мне показалось что маловато Бассов как для меня, начал смотрел видео сравнения и пошёл делать возврат, покупая экстрим 3, купил, пришёл домой, послушал ее два дня, и каждый раз у меня возникало сомнение, что то не так, ну вот не то, да бассы сильнее, но они какие-то не такие, они не дополняют музыку, они просто где-то бубнят, высокие частоты кричат отдельно, низкие отдельно. Я начал думать что бы вернуть экстрим 3 и взять снова чардж 5, т.к. в чардж 5 реально звук по качеству лучше, в ней все сбалансировано как то, получаешь кайф от музыки, да экстрим 3 мощнее, но каждый динамик играет сам по себе. В итоге сделал я возврат и покупая чардж 5 снова, увидел в наличии зелёный цвет сборка nd, взял ее, ребята я очень доволен теперь. Звук в nd сборке мне больше понравился, чем в tl, очень приятный басс, на эквалайзере, в приложении jbl, я поднял бассы на верх, все остальное посередине. Я прям очень рад что попробовал и экстрим и чардж и выбрал то, что как по мне самый лучший вариант. Бассы крутые, звук очень сбалансирован, для любого стиля. Nd сборка реально лучше tl. Надеюсь для кого то мой комментарий будет полезен сьекономит вам хорошую сумму денег и поможет определится с выбором.

I have 2 jbl flip 6 and listen to my music in stereo mode, but now I need more bass and have decided to buy a new speaker and use it in partyboost beside my 2 flip 6 for outdoor use. @@jayjaytv2563 he should go with a PartyBox for outdoors (100-1000, not the OTG because its not that great). Xtreme 3 is alright for indoor use but it doesnt get that loud outside.
You can’t feel the bass on the Xtreme 3. For that you’ll need a Boombox 2. And he used the word soundstage wrong. Soundstage is actually how well the sound travels out without losing quality. A 360° speaker like the Pulse 4 will have better soundstage for example than the Xtreme 3, but of course the X3 will outperform the Pulse when it comes to bass.
Around 35% you start to really hear bass and at 40% it's sweetspot starts. Soundstage is really solid actually, every sound is possible to pinpoint within the soundstage. Though you'll have to face the speaker to get the imaging, as sound dispersion isn't that impressive
I have two charge 4s and it’s impressive. They sell the old flip 4s at Ross so. I can buy two more speakers for like $70. Charge 5 is better because it feels more versatile. It sounds good outside and sleek enough to bring to the bathroom/shower or on a balcony listening to podcasts. Xtreme is imo is for bigger daily gatherings like fitness or dance class. It’s a hefty speaker.

Charge 5 isn’t even on the same planet as xtreme 3 in person. No comparison. I have both. Xtreme 3 is much closer to boombox 1 than charge 5 iRL with slightly less bass than boombox 1.
@@asduhaisjdjasd of course. i never listen to a speaker before i do the latest firmware updates. xtreme 2 teaches a valuable lesson with poor sound quality before a firmware update. it was hot garbage out of the box, but turned into a totally different device after updating. only speaker i haven't updated is my partybox 300 because it will not accept a firmware update even through 3rd party USB. i currently own charge 2+, charge 3, charge 4, charge 5, boombox 1, xtreme 1, xtreme 2, xtreme 3, and partybox 300. charge 5 has 1/4th the bass output of xtreme 3 and about 65% of the max volume dB output in person which is fine because it's supposed to. boombox and partybox will definitely spoil you because of the great bass output and clarity. xtreme 3 is the only speaker in its range with bass output and volume that approaches boombox (but doesn't reach it), but has some kind of portability at the same time. as long as you don't listen to a charge 3, 4 or 5 before an xtreme 2 or 3, boombox, or partybox, you will be fine. there is no comparison. there isn't supposed to be.

My opinion is that the extreme 3 sounds more open and wild; whereas the charge 5 is more closed and domestic. With that being said, I don’t think one is better than the other. Charge 5 would be great for personal joy but extreme 3 would be great if you want whole bunch of people to enjoy your music.

You could get car speakers for way cheaper and theyd sound better because there'll be four of em or six if you have tweeters. The JBL GT629 or whatever are on sale for 98 bucks on amazon
Both have their pros and cons, depends on what you're looking to do with your speaker. The Charge 5 has portability "long" battery life and can be used outdoors where as the onyx studio 6 is more of an indoor speaker and the battery life sucks you get like 3 hours on full volume, but the onyx 6 has better clarity on vocals/mids and the bass is so good when placed properly against a wall. I'd still choose the charge5 over the onyx 6 just for the fact that the battery on the onyx 6 sucks.
The JBL charge 5 is an attempt to catch customers who dont want to pay the high price for the Extreme 3. The reason why they bumped up the power output on the charge 5 but also the reason why the wattage now out plays the displacement of the smaller speakers. I call it a rock and a hard spot.
Charge 5 has clearer highs while the xtreme 3 has more punchy bass. both are good but it really goes down to one's preferences. I have the Charge 5 and I always travel a lot with this.
Of course the Xtreme 3 is going to sound better. Any day of the week. It's a bigger speaker, with bigger drivers. That being said though, if size, space and budget is a concern, go for the Charge 5. You can't go wrong. Certainly more bang for your buck so to speak than the Flip 6 if what I have been hearing is anything to go by. Flip 6 sounds flat in my opinion.
Pienso lo mismo. Y pienso que es menos costoso y más práctico, ya que puedes poner una a distancia de la otra en stereo. El único sacrificio que veo es que los sonidos bajos no serán tan intensos como la extreme, pero tal vez no sea muy relevante si se está ok con un sonido bajo que de satisfacción en correlación al volumen.

@@Juancanf la diferencia del bajo de la extreme con la charge no es mucha, ya que por las reviews que he visto casi todos dicen eso. Creo que con 2 charges se llenaría ese vacío. Una charge suena muy bien para una casa o apartamento, para exteriores no lo he probado pero creo que están bien para escuchar música de cualquier género. Ahora sí se busca algo bastante ruidoso de excelente sonido, creo que la Aiwa exos 9 sería mejor que cualquier JBL portable que esté en el rango de precios de las charges y las extremes.
El extreme 3se distorsiona al volumen máximo en los agudos como que chilla ese es su defecto,resulta que me voy a comprar dos charges 5y probaré los resultados en los exteriores y veré si se distorsiona al máximo volumen

It was very useful as I'm planning to buy one of these and thanks to your review I chose the Xtreme 5 because of the fuller sound :) As a suggestion, It would have been really helpful to me if the speakers would have been sitting right in the middle (with one above the other? when playing the tracks)... One next to each other is distorting the audio information by quite a lot. As a plus to that setup, placing them at a corner (1 meter away) also is a helping making the sound a lot fuller because the bass from the sides is bounced towards the listener instead of losing it to the sides. I'm always doing this with a charge 4 to have a more richer sound - it works great :) All in all, a good review for me! Thanks again and Cheers :)

Extreme 3 looks nice but it's quite big compared to charge 5 which is obviously more portable.
Overall both are nice, just personal preference.

Charge 5 for me winner. It has a thump in the bass while the extreme reminds me of a ported woofer box in mini trucks of the 80's. The highs on the extreme sound higher though.
Compare both neck to neck at a store youll see a huge difference. Caned noise coming from the charge 5 on some songs

My nephew bought the charge 5 for Christmas with the update and i got the extreme 3 and it sounds alot more full, more bass and doesnt die as quick compared to the charge 5 that dies quick to make it loud on full compared to half volume of the extreme 3. Jbl knows what they made and knows why they charge more for the extreme 3 over the charge 5. Hear both back to back in person is the only full way of understanding the differences.
@@MrJackassz I got my xtreme 3 last night & I was hearing some canned noise behind mostly clear & quality audio. I thought I was hearing like compressed audio, but I read up on it & it only supports sbc codec Bluetooth which means that's pretty much exactly what I was hearing. This morning I tested it with an aux & it sounded night & day perfect to my ears. Does the charge support aux?
@@boomerdunkin been hearing it everyday for the past week ive had it and even listening to it right now as we speak. A few songs sounded fizzy but i changed the songs i was hearing on by the same artist same song just different youtube accounts and sounded way better, so wasnt the speakers fault. Charge has no aux. Im not being biast at all just being honest from my experience. Im satisfied!

I recently grabbed the boombox 3 & I love it. I want to get a smaller JBL to be more portable as the bBox 3 is lrg. Made for patio life. Keeping the bBox in one spot while having a portable option that connects to the same source makes sense. especially for life on the road.
Think the extreme 3 is a good quick portable option.

Agreed. I use my charge 5 in a truck over a 12hr shift. So I need the long battery life. That's the main thing holding me back from the Xtreme 3

i would say no as far as power is concerned. not even close. xtreme 2 has 2x the bass just like xtreme 3 over charge 5. charge 5 has more clarity on the high end though than xtreme 2. not xtreme 3 though.
Size is also a factor, JBL Xtreme 2 have a bigger cabinet, bigger drivers and bigger passive radiators, and therefore produce a bigger sound / bigger bass (not necessarily louder, but bigger, with more presence)

Может кому-то будет полезно, по поводу что лучше, решил я вообщем купить себе новую колонку, была у меня до этого чардж 3, посмотрел что есть в магазине, и увидел что самое новое это чардж 5, не думая купил себе чёрную сборка tl, послушал не несколько дней и мне показалось что маловато Бассов как для меня, начал смотрел видео сравнения и пошёл делать возврат, покупая экстрим 3, купил, пришёл домой, послушал ее два дня, и каждый раз у меня возникало сомнение, что то не так, ну вот не то, да бассы сильнее, но они какие-то не такие, они не дополняют музыку, они просто где-то бубнят, высокие частоты кричат отдельно, низкие отдельно. Я начал думать что бы вернуть экстрим 3 и взять снова чардж 5, т.к. в чардж 5 реально звук по качеству лучше, в ней все сбалансировано как то, получаешь кайф от музыки, да экстрим 3 мощнее, но каждый динамик играет сам по себе. В итоге сделал я возврат и покупая чардж 5 снова, увидел в наличии зелёный цвет сборка nd, взял ее, ребята я очень доволен теперь. Звук в nd сборке мне больше понравился, чем в tl, очень приятный басс, на эквалайзере, в приложении jbl, я поднял бассы на верх, все остальное посередине. Я прям очень рад что попробовал и экстрим и чардж и выбрал то, что как по мне самый лучший вариант. Бассы крутые, звук очень сбалансирован, для любого стиля. Nd сборка реально лучше tl. Надеюсь для кого то мой комментарий будет полезен сьекономит вам хорошую сумму денег и поможет определится с выбором.

Aradaki fiyat farkına değerimi bilemiyorum harman kardon oynx 8 denedim bu 2 üründen daha temiz bas veriyor.

I have 2 jbl flip 6 and listen to my music in stereo mode, but now I need more bass and have decided to buy a new speaker and use it in partyboost beside my 2 flip 6 for outdoor use. Xtreme 3 is alright for indoor use but it doesnt get that loud outside.
You can’t feel the bass on the Xtreme 3. For that you’ll need a Boombox 2. And he used the word soundstage wrong. Soundstage is actually how well the sound travels out without losing quality. A 360° speaker like the Pulse 4 will have better soundstage for example than the Xtreme 3, but of course the X3 will outperform the Pulse when it comes to bass.
Around 35% you start to really hear bass and at 40% it's sweetspot starts.
Soundstage is really solid actually, every sound is possible to pinpoint within the soundstage. Though you'll have to face the speaker to get the imaging, as sound dispersion isn't that impressive

I have two charge 4s and it’s impressive. They sell the old flip 4s at Ross so. I can buy two more speakers for like $70. Charge 5 is better because it feels more versatile. It sounds good outside and sleek enough to bring to the bathroom/shower or on a balcony listening to podcasts. Xtreme is imo is for bigger daily gatherings like fitness or dance class. It’s a hefty speaker.

Charge 5 isn’t even on the same planet as xtreme 3 in person. No comparison. I have both. Xtreme 3 is much closer to boombox 1 than charge 5 iRL with slightly less bass than boombox 1.

@@asduhaisjdjasd of course. i never listen to a speaker before i do the latest firmware updates. xtreme 2 teaches a valuable lesson with poor sound quality before a firmware update. it was hot garbage out of the box, but turned into a totally different device after updating. only speaker i haven't updated is my partybox 300 because it will not accept a firmware update even through 3rd party USB. i currently own charge 2+, charge 3, charge 4, charge 5, boombox 1, xtreme 1, xtreme 2, xtreme 3, and partybox 300. charge 5 has 1/4th the bass output of xtreme 3 and about 65% of the max volume dB output in person which is fine because it's supposed to. boombox and partybox will definitely spoil you because of the great bass output and clarity. xtreme 3 is the only speaker in its range with bass output and volume that approaches boombox (but doesn't reach it), but has some kind of portability at the same time. as long as you don't listen to a charge 3, 4 or 5 before an xtreme 2 or 3, boombox, or partybox, you will be fine. there is no comparison. there isn't supposed to be.

Right now I own a soundcore motion+ and a JBL go 3, where the go 3 is currently repeatedly turning on and off by itself randomly (can't blame the speaker for that, it was my fault for breaking it) as I'm typing this reply about to go to bed
My opinion is that the extreme 3 sounds more open and wild; whereas the charge 5 is more closed and domestic.
With that being said, I don’t think one is better than the other. Charge 5 would be great for personal joy but extreme 3 would be great if you want whole bunch of people to enjoy your music.

ONYX STUDIO 6 and CHARGE 5 which one is better pls ??
Both have their pros and cons, depends on what you're looking to do with your speaker. The Charge 5 has portability "long" battery life and can be used outdoors where as the onyx studio 6 is more of an indoor speaker and the battery life sucks you get like 3 hours on full volume, but the onyx 6 has better clarity on vocals/mids and the bass is so good when placed properly against a wall. I'd still choose the charge5 over the onyx 6 just for the fact that the battery on the onyx 6 sucks.

The JBL charge 5 is an attempt to catch customers who dont want to pay the high price for the Extreme 3. The reason why they bumped up the power output on the charge 5 but also the reason why the wattage now out plays the displacement of the smaller speakers. I call it a rock and a hard spot.

Of course the Xtreme 3 is going to sound better. Any day of the week. It's a bigger speaker, with bigger drivers. That being said though, if size, space and budget is a concern, go for the Charge 5. You can't go wrong. Certainly more bang for your buck so to speak than the Flip 6 if what I have been hearing is anything to go by. Flip 6 sounds flat in my opinion.

Pienso lo mismo. Y pienso que es menos costoso y más práctico, ya que puedes poner una a distancia de la otra en stereo. El único sacrificio que veo es que los sonidos bajos no serán tan intensos como la extreme, pero tal vez no sea muy relevante si se está ok con un sonido bajo que de satisfacción en correlación al volumen.

@@Juancanf la diferencia del bajo de la extreme con la charge no es mucha, ya que por las reviews que he visto casi todos dicen eso. Creo que con 2 charges se llenaría ese vacío. Una charge suena muy bien para una casa o apartamento, para exteriores no lo he probado pero creo que están bien para escuchar música de cualquier género. Ahora sí se busca algo bastante ruidoso de excelente sonido, creo que la Aiwa exos 9 sería mejor que cualquier JBL portable que esté en el rango de precios de las charges y las extremes.
El extreme 3se distorsiona al volumen máximo en los agudos como que chilla ese es su defecto,resulta que me voy a comprar dos charges 5y probaré los resultados en los exteriores y veré si se distorsiona al máximo volumen

As a suggestion, It would have been really helpful to me if the speakers would have been sitting right in the middle (with one above the other? when playing the tracks)... One next to each other is distorting the audio information by quite a lot. As a plus to that setup, placing them at a corner (1 meter away) also is a helping making the sound a lot fuller because the bass from the sides is bounced towards the listener instead of losing it to the sides. I'm always doing this with a charge 4 to have a more richer sound - it works great :)
All in all, a good review for me!
