Well 3 points. #1 the extreme may cost as much as 2 charge 5, but it weighs less, and has carry strap making it ultimately more portable.
#2 the bass extention and fullness/ sound is a little better with the extreme 3, if low frequency is important this matters
#3 the charge 5s can be set 2 different places, this making them phenomenal for home listening. However, they have to be 2 places, making them slightly more complicated to use in outdoor environments. Part of the negative here is connecting. Technically, you could struggle to connect then with AUX, and the party boost sometimes has issues, the Extreme 3 won't have that complication.

I've just bought the Xtreme 3. I was a bit disappointed at first BUT I updated the software with the JBL app and used the EQ to put bass at max, mid unchanged and treble 1 notch down. I also disabled the 'absolute volume' in Android so you can change the volume independently on the speaker and on the phone. I put the volume on max on the speaker itself. These two things made the speaker 10x better. Now I'm extremely happy with it.

This video was great! I do think that the two JBL Charge 5s did make a better sound than the Extreme 3. I'm coming from a JBL Charge 3 and was very impressed with it, so I think the single Charge 5 would be best for me. Thanks for the wonderful video!

But can you throw those in a backpack? Big no, charge 5 is great throw 2 of them in a backpack and u are good, if you need bigger compact boxes anyways get a Partybox 310 that thing really rocks, or a partybox encore that still has much better deep bass compared to the tribit

I have 2 Charge 5s. They occupy space in separate rooms, but I do occasionally pair'em up and rock out. They really sound great. I feel you can equalize the bass difference with the EQ settings. Best of both worlds. For portability I can take one with me, or for bigger sound I can pair'em up.

I have got both, one charge 5 and one extreme 3. Even for portability, two charge5 would be better. I guess.
It just seems a little unfair the fact that xtreme 3 works with lower power when unplugged... I know you're talking about portable speakers, but it would be nice to listen it also plugged, so we could be really sure about the possibility of making this trade... Very nice comparison, man!
Still no competition, I just got my second charge 5 and placed it on the other side of the room and the surround sound feeling is indescribable. Utterly amazed.
The sound stage is also much better than the extreme

Every charge has dust resistance, they just added that onto the spec sheet to get you to buy it for some useless name they had the whole time.
The xtreme3 and charge5 linked and spread apart sound really good. that's my go to outdoor setup right now. charge5 is as big as i would go for a backpack speaker though.
I find it funny that I’m watching this now because I was littering thinking that someone should make this exact comparison. But what’s funnier is that I got an Extreme 3 and 2 Charge 5’s, but all three of mine are Black. For anyone looking at either of these speakers. I’d recommend either one and JBL is well known for their quality. To the creator of this video, thanks for sharing this review.

Two JBL Charge 5 is definitely is the way to go over one JBL Xtreme 3 the wider and more dynamic tuning is a lot more pleasing but if you're on the go a lot then I'll just go for the Xtreme 3 on sale. I'm thinking about getting the party box 110 pretty soon since it's on sale

I have 2 charge 5's and my daughter has 1. The 2 paired together provide clear powerful sound. The third and a fourth added (from a friend) lit up my backyard and house when properly placed. I was a Sony person before the change 5. The only drawback is that i wish it had an audio jack for non wireless use.

@morganvici6543 Who said they were wired? The app on the phone used to do work great, but since they've done an upgrade, it doesn't work so well for me.
For me the 2 charge 5s sound wider and louder. But the xtreme 3 sounds fuller, richer and cleaner. (I'm listening to this on 2 xtreme 3s stereo partyboost)

Charge 5 is the clear winner
I got two Charge 5's for $129 a peice. When I looked at the extreme on Amazon it was $229. Two charge 5's will outperform one Extreme 3. In my opinion one Charge 5's sound is close to one Extreme 3's sound. Two speakers are always better than one.

Extreme 3 is stereo. It was always 2 vs 2. Extreme 3 also has bigger sub drivers than 2x Charge 5 and you can't really compensate for size with numbers when it comes to bass which is why the Charge 5 sounds a bit tinny over about 60% vol while the Xtreme 3 doesn't get much tinny sound until >90%.
The real answer is get one Xtreme 3 or a Boombox for bass, then supplement with 1 or 2 Charge 5s for surround. Especially since Charge 5s are 140 and Xtreme 3 is 230 now.

.... I had 2x Xtreme 2 which were great for parties and Stereo chillout sessions.... BUT then they dropped the App for it so I could only pair those 2 speakers and not in Stereo... Was really bummed and nearly ditched JBL... I wasn't prepared to fork out for 2 new Xtreme 3s so I got the 2 x Charge 5s and I reckon they are close to the Xtreme 2s.... I love the PartyBoost The long battery life and the fantastic Bluetooth connection which is really strong and won't cut out when source is looong way away..... Got a Party on this weekend and friends are bringing their Charge 5s... should have 5 playing... should do the trick. Great comparison mate👍🎶
I like the JBL Charge 5. Having one that size you can throw it in your bag and travel with it. Having it at home will give you good sound and not take up to much room on your desk or nightstand.
All 3 for stereo setup! Probably better and cheaper then a lot of soundboard systems lol

We did the 2 charge 5's and they are great😊 In stereo in the yard the stereo separation makes my ears insanely happy. About 6 feet apart they sing! Very happy with these little footballs.
I did the same test when charge 5 came out and I got the same result. Since the speakers can be placed at a separate point the sound spread and fills better than Xtreme 3.

I have one charge 5 already. You have me wanting another one to pair up for that stereo sound.
I have 2 jbl flip 6 and listen to my music in stereo mode, but now I need more bass and have decided to buy a new speaker and use it in partyboost beside my 2 flip 6 for outdoor use. What do you suggest ? Buying charge 5 or xtreme 3 ? Since I heard that xtreme 3 is only 50W rms instead of 100W when it has not plugged, I was a little disappointed about it!

I'd also go with the 2..in fact I'd put 2 in my living room 1 in dining 1 in kitchen.. Two upstairs and a wheeled big boy for use outside for cookouts and the such... I'm a jbl fan.
Damn you got me looking at another charge 5 for my travel config. My company gifted me one and it's always somewhat annoyed me in mono mode but TWO CHANNELS??? Yes sir... looking for a 2nd now to throw in the travel kit.
Question here, I have a BB2 for in my car but I kinda miss some sound in the front. Want to get two charges for the front in the doors. Would you be able to have the charges work in stereo with the BB2 in normal mode?

Expecting the extreme 3 to have twice the Bass, twice the Sound, I was totally disappointed and wished I bought 2 charge5 instead.
It's not as loud when unplugged but you can go into the settings and change it to make it sound louder.

Actually the sound is not the real problem. I like the sound..but the original Charger only charges it fifty percent. They sent me a new one which charges only twenty five percent. I can charge it with some other Chargers, but if I plug it into the original Charger, the charget leeches it down to 50 or 25%.
I have the JBL Go 3,Flip 5,Charge 5, and Partybox encore essential, and i use them all in different situations.

@@MirroroftheRepublic Возможно и чардж 5 будет нормальным, но лично мне кажется то что он для дома слишком громкий, орет уже на средней громкости, баса не всегда хватает, поэтому и выходит какая то ерунда. Инструментал мне тоже не во всех случаях понравился, когда слушал экстрим 2 не помню чтобы были подобные проблемы. Кстати я знаю что на 50% экстрим играет тише чем чардж, а на громкости ближе к 100% наоборот экстрим

my man, it sucks how you were able to convince me to now wanting to buy two charge 5s. I originally planned to buy one.
Even though the charge 5 goes from 65 Hz to 20kHz and the extreme 3 goes from 53,5 Hz to 20 kHz which means more sub bass
The xtreme 3 goes deeper, but if sub bass is what your looking for, you might want to look into getting a boombox 3.
@@joesjourney145 Yes, the boombox 3 is the thing, but it's heavier to carry around. That's why I personally like the extreme 3 better. To listen to music at home I have the Partybox 110 and it's awesome as well.

I love my charge 5s it's a great speaker my wife works for DigiTech which is a sister company of JBL and Harmon Kardon so I get a little bit of a deal from her but my home system I'm actually running to JBL towers with 2 Bose direct reflecting speakers they are 701s but my JBL speakers are by far better I also have a pair of over the ear JBL extra bass headphones and they rock
I have all of them 2 extreme 3s 2 charge 5s 1pulse 4 2 flip 5s and 1 flip 6 in my personal opinion the size means nothing connect them all together there's no words amazing connected the xtrem3 the biggest ones I have but and I think they're not as loud as he should be for the 💰💰 charge 5 ain't too far off in sound and cheaper just saying again size means nothing but again one man's opinion

I think the only place where the charge 5 falls short when compared to the xtreme 3 and flip 6 is the lack of a hook(s) and carrying strap/lanyard. The only way to carry the charge 5 is by literally handling the speaker.

No, it also falls way short in sound. If you update your Xtreme 3 and put bass on max in the EQ there is no competition between these two speakers.
@NoWonderDragon well obviously, it's a bigger speaker with more power. I use my Xtr3m3 with +2 bass and +1 mid and treble.

To anyone that are trying to decide. Go with the charge 5 yeah the xtreme 3 is a little more loud and a little more bass but two charge 5 would be better. If you want bass and loudness just go with the jbl boombox
The Boombox 3 is $500. You can get 2x Tribit Stormbox Blast for $330 and they'll wipe the floor with the Boombox 3

the jbl extreme 3 delivers a maximum power of 100 watts when connected to an ac network. It is not connected to the mains, so it only emits 50 watts
I've just bought an Xtreme 3 and I'm worried I might just not take my Boombox 2 out that much anymore (despite having a good case for it) purely because it's like...a 3rd of the weight.

I have the xtreme 3 and flip 6 !! I was debating on getting the charge 5 instead of the xtreme 3 but ultimately could not pass up the Bestbuy price currently at $249.99 for the xtreme 3

The reason both charge sound way louder at 50 is they raise volume too high before half, note that in 85 xtreme gets nearer in volume because it raises volume in a linear way instead charge which raises volume fast in first half but after it raises slowly after 60 and beginning to lose bass. Yes 2 charger must be louder because 80w both against 60w of xtreme, but xtreme wins for me in term of sound quality, more balanced and deeper bass (50-60hz which charge lacks of)
I listened both models personally too, Charge gets too much mids, unlike xtreme which mids are present but controlled
A proper A/B audio comparison would have them level matched to the same whitenoise db irreguardless of the volume number. This allows you to exclusively compare the sound Quality without being persuaded by the one that is louder as the majority of people will simply say that the one that is louder sounds better. Sure, In addition you can separately compare/analyze the loudness at 50%, 100%, or whatever if loudness is another objective.
Place two charge 5s at the opposite side of the room by walls and it annihilates the xtreme 3 in terms of sound stage, filling the room, bass and overall loudness.
I mentioned putting jt by a wall because it dramatically increases the bass and balances out the sound.
At that point there is nothing the extreme has over two charge 5s😊
Charge 5 sounds better. I have two of them and tested the whole line. first I bought 2 Flip 6 which surprise with their sound but charge 5 is the best. Period. I have them for more than a year and never thought returning them, I might buy a third one for making surround on party

Depends what you want it for! More bass/sound = xtreme 3 but its heavy and big at 2kg. More clarity and portability = Charge 5 only 900g. I must say though €177 for the xtreme 3 is a pretty good deal where did you find that lol?
@@Usenowgamer I want the speaker especially for the house for the shower, kitchen and when summer comes for the beach, etc. I have already had a jbl charge 5 and for its size its sound and bass are very good. I'm very concerned about its portability but I love the xtreme3's bass.

Then there's my dumbass that impulse bought a charge 5 after finding them on sale and seeing good reviews. Got home and found out the charge 5 doesn't have stereo sound(still sounds amazing, but stereo is a must for full, rich sound), so I went back out and bought a Xtreme 3 to party link with it lmao.
