I made these for the first time and doubled the recipe. They are amazingly delicious and smell so good! A double batch made about 50 waffles in my mini round waffle maker. We froze them. So happy to find this recipe. No sugar needed. They have a sweet taste without it.
Hi dear!! Can you add the ingredienti also in grams??? Tks
If you recheck her description it’s right at the bottom .
These are the crispiest waffles I have ever tried!! And trust me - I have been looking for such a recipe for over a year and tried sooo many variations. Thank you for sharing it!
Grateful to you, your husband, and son for your content contribution. Very much good natured and wholesome content.
I had some discard and decided to give this recipe a try. It is DELICIOUS. I threw in chocolate chips on a few for breakfast and hubs used 2 plain ones to make a ham and mozzarella sandwich. Definitely a keeper. I also use discard to make crumpets, which we all love.
I’ve made these for my first time yesterday! Huge hit! My kids loved them and it’s just so simple and yummy! Thank you! 😃
I separate the eggs and beat the whites until they are somewhat stiff and fold them in skipping the baking powder. Same taste with the discard but a bit fluffier.
I just made them! They’re awesome and beautiful! My next batch I will include some extras. Berries, chips and so on. Ty
OK, that's it, I'm coming over for breakfast! (and every other meal for that matter)
Thank you for this wonderful recipe! I made it this morning for the first time and was in love. I froze the rest and just took some out for dinner... even crunchier and just delicious! I hope to see more sourdough recipes in your channel 💗
I'm so glad you enjoyed them, Laura!!
Soooo good! I added some sugar to the batter and the rest was as instructed. Best sourdough waffles so far! Thank you!
Made these today. So crispy and light!
I didn’t even watch the video, and I already liked the video, because I know if Nicole posts something... it’s the highest quality video possible.
Aw, thanks, John!
I'm in love!! not just with your waffles recipe but mostly with your smile and your bubbly personality! Your family is lucky to have such a lovely lady and a baker in the house :-)! Yes tried the recipe and is very good!
Ok! I have the worlds most impossible family!! And I have to say, I finally made your recipe and the all loved the waffles and devoured them all! I can’t believe how easy they are to make! Thank you❤
Well, it has taken me about a year (since I discovered your recipe) to make these. Never too late, I always say. I used the batter for pancakes, and I can say these are possibly the best I have ever made. Like you, for this mix I had just under a 1/2 cup of starter, so I backed off a little on the other ingredients - I think I got it just about right. I had two big ones, and now there is a short stack going into the freezer! Toaster Pancakes.. Mmm. Thanks for sharing.
I miss your how does it grow series, I'm learning a lot about crops and it helps me in my studies cause I'm an agriculture student, i really love your shows. Thank you for inspiring me and the others.
You're very welcome! We miss filming them, but we're trying to stay safe - and keep others safe - during this pandemic. More HDIG episodes soon, we hope!
I love this, following your sourdough playlist. Fingers crossed.
Hello,
My dear thank you for this amazing recipe.
I made it with a rye starter and white flour.
I tried the recipe and they turn out awesome
Really like the way you cover your topis in details. Starting from cranberries till waffles each of them are neatly done. And hats off to your 'how does it grow' episodes! It's very shocking to see the number of subscriber figure of your channel in comparison to other random channels uploading irrelevant things. I am sure it gives you the same feeling! Keep up the good work, you are really good at what you do. Love watching your channel. God bless you!
Great and easy recipe!! Thank you so much for sharing! 😋🧇
My pleasure 😊

Just made some waffles: OH MY GOOOD!!! Thank you sooo much!!
I made these and they are hands down the best waffles/frozen waffles ive ever had and im making more soon!
I love that! Power to you!
Great recipe!
Thank you for fantastic videos! 😃
Lovely recipe. Thank you. I will make some pancakes this weekend.
Regards from South America. I am brazilian but I live in Argentina.
Doing sourdough helped me to keep my mind healthy during quarantine.
I'm so glad, Renan! It helped me too.
Interesting ingredient, thanks for sharing! I will be making these. I usually put cream ot tatar, orange juice and coconut oil in my waffle batter.
Oh wow, sounds delicious!
This looks so good! 👌🏼
I'm a breakfast person,
This sounds great Nicole Thanks
This sounds amazing and simple enough - definitely going to try! So no sugar need to be added?
I live in the Caribbean so it’s pretty hot… is it still safe to leave on the counter overnight?
just made this recipe but added a little bit of sugar and they’re delicious! thank you
Best recipe ever, it’s the only one I will use,
It works with gluten free flour too!!! Yummy! 🤩
The best waffles….thank you !
Yum ! I know what I'm having for breakfast
I was waiting for this i am very lucky i find you're channel
Hope you enjoy them!
@@TrueFoodTV yes of coursr😘😘
I’ve never eat such awesome waffles 🧇
Hi Nicole, amazing recipe, thanks for share, greetings from Serbia !
Hello!!!
Great recipe and video - what waffle iron are you use - I have one that does not give that beautiful golden and waffle texture?
Great! Thanks!
Looks great. Can you list the recipe below or us there a link to all your recipes as some other people have done?
Nicole, do you think I could substitute milk with a nut milk and still have good results?
Thank you for sharing your secret recipe, you are always lovely💕
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this…. 🥰
Hi Nicole,
Looks so delicious thanks for sharing.
My pleasure 😊 Hope you're well, Michael!
@@TrueFoodTV yes,
All is well with me thanks so much
I've been baking sourdough bread for a couple of years now and am now waiting for my waffle iron to arrive. In the meantime, I've asked a friend for a recipe and they mentioned some recipes use yeast. I KNEW there was gonna be a sourdough version, hence I found your vid. Looking fwd to my sourdough waffles, thanks :)
Can't wait for you to make them! Enjoy!
@@TrueFoodTV update: I made it today, the family loved it, it was a runaway success - too bad there's no way to upload a photo here - thanks again!
Thanks. First time I see a waffle recipe without sugar, I might try that or at least reduce the sugar amount. I use mostly sweet spreads on them anyway. Would there be any benefit of rest time between mixing in the remainder of the ingredients and start making waffles?
How is your sddiscard so thick? Mine is a lot runnier taken straight from fridge.
Did you feed starter and then discarded at peak, and then using discard asap?
Waffles look so amazing, will have to try :)
Heh there Nicole,
Many thanks for this and will definitely try this once i have my sourdough starter going.
Can't wait for the sourdough bread recipe from you as i do a fair amount of bread baking.
Take care & stay safe.
Coming soon! It's in edit right now. ;)
@@TrueFoodTVExcellent.👍🙂
Easy and delicious, nice! Thank you! A happy accident... I only made one waffle the first morning. I covered the rest of the batter and it sat in the fridge for 24 hours. The result were the best tangy waffles I ever ate. did I say thank you? :)
Thanks for the recipe and variations. Have you ever used Buttermilk in place of the milk?
Since I use sourdough starter which brings its own acid with it, I dont find that I need the acid tang of buttermilk. That said, give it a try and see how you like it! I'm always up for experimenting. ;)
So yummy dear 😋😋
Super recipe, thank you. Could you please give the quantities in ounces or grams? Best regards from England.
I'm a little confuse. Dont need sugar?
By the way, I'll do tomorrow ! Thanks for the recipe
oh god.. i love sourdough waffles that my mom makes.. she makes it with rice flour fermented for a night so it will be a lil bit crispy.. thanks fro this recipe.
Oh, I think I'll have to try that! Sounds great!
Hi Nicole. I’ve been making waffles & pancakes since my Granddad taught me when I was a boy (I’m 56 now). It’s never even occurred to me to use starter discards, so thanks so much for that. For waffles, I separate the eggs and fold in the fluffed up whites. Do you think it might make them a bit to airy with all the extra bubbles going on?
Sounds wonderful! I’ll try that next time I make waffles!,
I make 3x and freeze monthly. The best waffles.
What brand is your waffle maker please?
Can I use coconut or almond milk instead of regular milk and get the same results?
Is it possible without eggs and fattening as a milk creme and any vegan egg substitute
How early do you make the batter for the next day?
As for rising, discard is almost fully fermented and very sour. That means that the yeast is mostly gone and bacteria content is high. Not much lift no matter how you cut it
Is it safe to leave milk at room temp for so long?
I need this waffle maker? Whats the name of brand? Its heat is so even
I wonder how this recipe would come out with adding a nut flour (ex. Almond or coconut) instead of the all purpose flour??
Definitely need to try this out! My starter is just a few weeks old so I can’t wait!
I think they would taste delicious, just probably a bit denser than with wheat flour which make quite a fluffy/crisp waffle.
Nicole, you are an infectious personality. Great work.
Aw, thank you so much, Tony. Appreciate that!
@@TrueFoodTV ... Truth tho, I will be watching “How it grows” , Which popped up in my feed...And it occurred to me, the only reason I’m watching this... is her!
( Not that I don’t love asparagus! )
What brand is your waffle maker?
Have you tried different grains? Cinnamon? Thanks for the video, and keep up the great work!
Yes, I add cinnamon when I do my cocoa variation: 2-4 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 2 TBSP of maple syrup.
@@TrueFoodTV , so, apparently you haven't tried different grains, buckwheat, rye, teff, or nut flours.
Think it'd suit to uze coco oil, flax eggz n plant milk instead?
I've never tried! Give it a shot!
Hi Nicole, your sourdough bread recipe is the best!!! (I’ve tried ALOT!)
Can u clear something up for me? Are you using baking soda or baking powder in these waffles?
It is clearly stated as baking soda in the recipe
Do you have recipes in grams? Thankyou
Can I add sugar to it?
How old does the sourdough discard need to be to use it?
This recipe is very intriguing. Is it really okay to leave the dough with milk sit on the counter overnight? Is there a link anywhere to full with instructions I can print for later use.
I'm wondering this to
Can I just use the starter? I don't have any more discard
They look absolutely delicious! Have you tried them with ice cream yet?
YOU BET! ;)
AMAZING testing waffles
Mmmm, breakfast food, who would want to eat anything else but!?! (In honor of Leslie Knope & Ron Swanson)
🙌
While, this motivates me to buy a waffle iron this weekend!
That's a purchase worth making, Lance! ;)
I am suddenly hungry!!!! 😋
Why doesn't my dough in the morning look like yours? Mines got bubbles but yours looks fed, mine looks runnier. I took the batter outside, I live in Florida, the heat worked wonders. Just made 16, 9 left. Great success. Thank you for recipe.
Can the dough be made a day ahead of time? I made the mix but timing was off and it wasn’t ready until dinner (not an option for breakfast for dinner). I’m wondering if can refrigerate and use in the morning.
Sorry, I've never tried! May not get the same spring by then, but otherwise, I'd imagine they'd be fine.
Do u not let this sit in the refrigerator?! Concerned about the milk lol
03:08 lindo!!
Nicole, Can we use almond flour?
I've never tried, but I would think you could - may just have a denser texture.
What is the name of your rubber boots pls
I tried to make your waffle mix just the way you in the video and they came out gummy in the middle. I'll try again and let you know how how it goes
Instead of using milk I use buttermilk in my waffles. I took a sourdough pancake recipe and changed it to my own taste.
Buttermilk is great! I just dont keep it on hand as often as I do regular milk, and I haven't seen a significant difference between using one over the other.
@@TrueFoodTV buttermilk with a Ph of 4.4 to 4.6 verses milk with a Ph 6.7 to 6.9 I have found that the waffles are much lighter than with milk.
Hello! When you add Cocoa powder, how much do you use?
About a quarter cup. But you might need to counter that bitterness with a bit of sweetness -- like a hearty glug of maple syrup.
For the first 5 times, I made unbelievably crispy waffles with this recipe, then the last 2 times the waffles were dense and just like a normal waffle. My discard didn’t change. I think I over mixed the time before so last time I under mixed and it was still dense. Please help!!!
I noticed you didn’t add sugar. Would it be wrong to ad a couple of tablespoons or does it not need it?
You can absolutely add sugar! If my discard is a little on the sour side, I do this too -- maybe a TBSP or two.
@@TrueFoodTV At what point can you add sugar?
Is that discarded flour, unfed? Or do you feed it first? I am so confused and stifled by fear. 😮 And with 3 separate sourdough experiments going on simultaneously, I am totally lost and spinning out!😂😢. Help!
Nicole looking as good as those waffles
Can I use almond milk instead of cow milk? Anyone, please answer.
Wont the milk in it go bad from sitting out all night?
I'm certainly not food scientist but I'd guess, and personally wouldn't worry, that all the lactic acid in the starter would inhibit any nasty bacteria from growing 🤔
Assalamu alaina wa rahma tullah barakatuhu...... i am happy to see you.... but i havent cooked it yet....c u later
