Aww man, it looks like someone forgot he could path Orayo as his 4th spell during that tron matchup. You could have taken the opt instead of bottoming it, cast opt, cast Mishra's Bauble, then cast Path to Exile targeting Erayo. It flips on the cast trigger and path fizzles. Whether or not T3 Erayo would have been enough against tron is debatable, but I fee it would be better than sitting and waiting to get karned.
I paused the video when I saw that and came straight to the comments to see how many people was talking about that. It's like he already gave up and wasn't thinking.
I paused the video when I saw that and came straight to the comments to see how many people was talking about that. It's like he already gave up and wasn't thinking.
i think u could flip the erayo at the tron's game, opt+opt+mishra+path the erayo, trigger on the stack, resolves erayo flip, become an enchantment path loses it's target
I paused the video when I saw that and came straight to the comments to see how many people was talking about that. It's like he already gave up and wasn't thinking.
Sometimes the plays are really bad, Seth. Like not killing the Crabs on sight in the mill game or that Helix on Mantis rider, when the opponent doesn't tick up the veil and let's it on 2.
I feel like swapping out the baubles and erayos for vendilion cliques and a few counterspells would make this deck very good. I also think that 8 cantrips is too many for this deck but I could be wrong. Thanks for the video Seth!
Why I always run counterspells, some temples and the "draw 2+ cards" cantrips instead. Granted it's not as consistent but daggumit if I don't like playing cards that generate some sort of statistical advantage on their own! And then if I find lots of lands I can always put them to good use.
My buddy is the guy who created/5-0ed with the list and is already working on perfecting an esper version of the deck. Hopefully you'll be doing another deck tech on it soon, but as a taste of the fun the deck has still has Erayo, but it's added Lingering Souls and Tasigur lol.
Sort of, but "can't be countered" effects get around it. Cavern of souls, abrupt decay, and the like just ignore it. Not to mention you can stick a vial before the lock. It's something that has been done in the past, but it's not very good.
For testing the shuffle bug, if you scry and the card is still on top, quit the game and start looking at the top of the deck until the last card to check
Feel Wear // Tear would have been better as Abrade (not sure what enchantment you really want to kill. Blood Moon maybe). Also this deck needs something in the SB for the more grindy match-ups (That Human's matches you would stabilise but had not enough ways to close out the game). Maybe some Man-lands would also do the trick (Colonnade probably your best option).
I've never been able to fizzle the combo with creature removal (although it is something reliant if the opponent misplays and runs out a creature early).
game 2 of mil, you should've bolt snap bolt during blocks to take out the crabs instead of opting. Would've increased the chances of winning next turn.
In the last tron match he should’ve opted, kept opt on top, played that, played bauble, then pathed his erayo, that’s the fourth spell, trigger goes on the stack, flips erayo, path fizzles, gets the enchantment.
Why no Alpine Moons sideboarded in during the mill matchup? That way you can name field of ruin and/or Shelldock Isle? It felt like there was quite a bit of punts with Seth playing this deck. It certainly feels like there should be more practicing with this deck to be even better.
My personal feeling is Alpine Moon only comes in against Tron and Valakut. I don't think it's worth a card to shut down a random utility or creature land (although I'm sure there are some exceptions, that's my general rule). Maybe I'm wrong and I should be using it more aggressively, but I'm not sure turning of Shelldock Isle or Field of Ruin (which or our opponent may or may not even draw) is worth the price of a card.
That is straight-up unsportsmanlike. If they’re already combining off, and you know with 100% certainty that they will kill you, scoop it up. When you make someone time out, you are using rules outside the rules of MTG in order to win.
Using Jace to flashback repeal on Thalia's liutenant was kind of a punt, as plussing Jace on the phantasmal militia bugler would have killed it; still, you didn't have many outs
Last game: Storm player could have cast Noxious Revival, then cast Past In Flames. He could then cast Grapeshot and Lightning Bolt. Instead he screwed up his sequencing
Not bolting crabs in mill is like not bolting goblin guides against burn. Just always bolt it or they'll mill for 6 at least (1/10 of your deck, a la 2 damage from guide a turn).
Mox Amber got so much hate during the Humans matchup... That was really unfair: it's the exact same scenario when you wipe out Affinity's board and they top deck a Mox Opal, but in that case no one would blame Opal for its "downside"...
That said, I understand your mindset during that match and why you commented that, especially after that super-smooth first game. It's just that I'm Amber's #1 fan and I must show some appreciation every now and then. XP Thanks for the response, Seth, and for your content!
You missed a flip on erayo against torn game 2. You cast the first opt but bottomed the opt that was on top. If you kept it you would have gone second opt, bottom wear/tear, draw mox, cast mox and bauble and flip
In the first mill game, why did you wait to path the crab? Don't understand the reason why and it milled lots of your deck. You exiled it at the end of turn and looked like it all could have been avoided? Same in game two. Had to crabs you could have killed and didn't? Interested to understand the reasoning
Basically I think that our best plan against Mill is to kill them quickly, because they will mill us out eventually and we don't really have a way to stop it. So in game one we could have cast Lightning Bolt on the Crab, but I think it's better to save it for face. Then in game two (and also the next turn in game one) we would have had to skip playing Monastery Mentor to kill the Crab, so getting down our finisher seems worth having a few more cards milled. That was my thinking anyway.
You need to learn not to fetch when you scry 2 to the bottom unless you desperately need the mana. You effectively adding a card to the deck ( +2 from the shuffled scrys -1 for removing a land = 1 card added)
I would like to point out that Alpine Moon doesn’t work the way you want it to against Tron. While you can turn off one of the Urza lands with it, the NAME of the card hasn’t changed, and that’s all the other two Urza lands care about in order to turn them on. You’d need to have out all 3 Alpine Moons, each naming a different Urza land, for it to work the way you want it to. Otherwise, you’re just slowing them down slightly, and against Tron, that’s just not gonna cut it.
It's actually not the name that the Urza lands look for, but the subtype. Alpine moon prevents any of the tron lands from seeing the named land as having that type, so all other than the named one will always tap for one colorless, while the named one will tap for one of any color.
So I've been watching these for months and I still don't understand how KCI wins, it doesn't have any way of doing damage or any "you win the game" cards so how does it win? From what I can tell it only wins because people scoop because they don't want to see it.
"we have no threats but we have cantrips. And cantrips can be anything...maybe even threats" lmfaoooo I love your thought process
It could even be a boat!
Drawing cards is the best part of magic
...they could even be a boat!
there is a boat that is a threat
I just have to point this out, Erayo is not worth keeping in against humans. They have both caverns and vials to circumvent it.
Description says "Mox Opal". It's Mox Amber.
oops.
Against Tron: "We need to flip this Erayo."Proceeds to scry away the card that allowed him to flip Erayo.
that almost killed me, i was dieing inside
Aww man, it looks like someone forgot he could path Orayo as his 4th spell during that tron matchup.
You could have taken the opt instead of bottoming it, cast opt, cast Mishra's Bauble, then cast Path to Exile targeting Erayo. It flips on the cast trigger and path fizzles. Whether or not T3 Erayo would have been enough against tron is debatable, but I fee it would be better than sitting and waiting to get karned.
I was wondering if that would work. I'm glad someone else noticed.
My lord, why aren't you in Smash Bros or Fire Emblem Warriors yet?
I paused the video when I saw that and came straight to the comments to see how many people was talking about that. It's like he already gave up and wasn't thinking.
Phillip Meade seth always does this versus tron. Just playing the matchup puts him on tilt.
yup, I also notice it
"...beating eggs..."
You clever fellow, you, Seth.
Probably wasn’t even intentional.
Hi Seth, thanks so much for playing my deck. Watching you beat eggs was incredibly satisfying.
"Cracks Horizon Canopy... maybe they've just given up on life" lmao xD i love Seth
Games @ 4:17
Cantrips could be anything... They could even be a boat!
Doctor Seth! After the tests you ran, what's the conclusion?! Why am I so itchy all the time?!
Seth: "Sooooo many crabs...."
Noooo!
52:24 You could Opt, Opt, Mishra's Bauble, then Path targeting Erayu and it would flip.
I saw this too, I think it would have been the correct line against tron, preventing the turn 3 Karn etc.
I paused the video when I saw that and came straight to the comments to see how many people was talking about that. It's like he already gave up and wasn't thinking.
Man, the second opponent just bugled all over you. Never seen such raw buglage before. I hope you will be ok after that.
i think u could flip the erayo at the tron's game, opt+opt+mishra+path the erayo, trigger on the stack, resolves erayo flip, become an enchantment path loses it's target
You are correct.
I paused the video when I saw that and came straight to the comments to see how many people was talking about that. It's like he already gave up and wasn't thinking.
Hmm, alright, maybe we should have kept the second Opt. Pretty sure Erayo isn't that great against Tron, but it was our best hope to win.
you played the kci matchup quite well
I Agree with Carrot. Well played... And good Day to You Carrot.
Yeah. Honestly, probabaly some of the best play I've seen from seth in a while
Thanks!
i think kci had a bad go
Oh man, this feels so Vintagey with the Mentor, the Mox and the cantrips.
You should make the KCI player play the combo out.
It's so boring though :(
MTGGoldfish So true, but it's a good chance to grab a hot cocoa and a sandwich.
Speaking of, I'm planning on making KCI without wincons, what would you suggest to up the consistency of the deck?
Ah, fun deck! Love seeing the appreciation for Jori En after she left Standard.
Oh the old cantrip woes..... if you don't find gas, you can be tripped up.
Why I always run counterspells, some temples and the "draw 2+ cards" cantrips instead. Granted it's not as consistent but daggumit if I don't like playing cards that generate some sort of statistical advantage on their own! And then if I find lots of lands I can always put them to good use.

Isn't eidolon of rhetoric/rule of law and erayo a hard lock?
I like the way you think, Imma have to try this :D
Sort of, but "can't be countered" effects get around it. Cavern of souls, abrupt decay, and the like just ignore it. Not to mention you can stick a vial before the lock. It's something that has been done in the past, but it's not very good.
glass spinner for protection
Polski Suzeren ya but I play lots of white prison decks, so artifact hate are part of the package. I'mma need more land hate!
Yep! Discounting things that get through counters, but against most decks it is a hard lock.
For testing the shuffle bug, if you scry and the card is still on top, quit the game and start looking at the top of the deck until the last card to check
Thanks for being awesome, dude!
Thanks!
Good old “I John-O Castle”
Okay Seth is just obsessed with making Mox Amber good
We're going to do it sooner or later!
Maybe it could work in a Panharmonicon deck?
tries so hard to make a shitty card good. :( can't figure out why it's still 11 bucks a piece. should be about a quarter.
I'm bummed you never cast Jori En. That was the only part of this deck I was interested in seeing.
Always happy when you see a match vs Tron :)
It's always fun...
Damping Sphere seems exceptionally bad for this deck Seth. Mentor, Erayo, Jori En and Snapcaster all want you to play multiple spells a turn
The KCI win made me smile.
Beating KCI is already a solid victory. Beat the eggs! Beat them!!
Lol. My opponent has real.cards and were drawing mox ambers. So good it hurts. Love ya Saffron!
Seth, look up Sullivan solution in vintage from back in 05-06 very much like this deck
I'll check it out!
Seth, the game against Tron you should have kept the Opt... It would be your third spell, and then u could path Erayo for the flip
Yeah, in hindsight that might have been a good plan.
This deck was so sweet!
41:38 What was the intention with your line? I would have just gotten a red source and bolt-snap-bolted the crabs.
I like snap+path to try and get him to shuffle
I was mostly hoping we could win in turn turns and that our opponent didn't have it.
pretty cool deck, but I was kinda sad you took Jori En away every single sideboard ^^ haha. We couldn't see him do anything any game, sadly.
surprised against KCI you didn't keep path for either a scrap trawler or myr retriever
They're useless when KCI is up. Removal for creatures in general just suck.
I've never been able to fizzle the combo with creature removal (although it is something reliant if the opponent misplays and runs out a creature early).
Punt at 53 min. After you opt, play boble, path arao, while it's on the stack you opt again. Areo flips and path fizels.
Sorry about the spelling.
In game 2 against mill, you had snapcaster for spellpierce right :?,
Cavern of Souls laughs at Erayo, that's likely what your humans opponent was searching for.
This makes a lot of sense.
think this deck needs an anger or two in the side
game 2 of mil, you should've bolt snap bolt during blocks to take out the crabs instead of opting. Would've increased the chances of winning next turn.
Porphyr nodes or culling scales would be good for killing humens etc.
I like the sound of that.
Isn't nodes pretty awful with monastery mentor?
You can just let the nodes die if you are ready to play mentor, but yes no good in the other order.
Im thinking with the ops and serums, you can cut the fetch lands.
In the last tron match he should’ve opted, kept opt on top, played that, played bauble, then pathed his erayo, that’s the fourth spell, trigger goes on the stack, flips erayo, path fizzles, gets the enchantment.
@MTGGoldfish 52:27 Keep OPT, drop Elganjo, OPT + Bauble + Path into Erayo = Flip
Isn't that just three cards? Opt + Bauble + Path?
You already played one Opt
Machine Killer Seth!
Why no Alpine Moons sideboarded in during the mill matchup? That way you can name field of ruin and/or Shelldock Isle? It felt like there was quite a bit of punts with Seth playing this deck. It certainly feels like there should be more practicing with this deck to be even better.

Maybe I'm wrong and I should be using it more aggressively, but I'm not sure turning of Shelldock Isle or Field of Ruin (which or our opponent may or may not even draw) is worth the price of a card.
this whole deck is a punt
❤️ your vids Seth:)
@27:20 "Oh no, we're getting bugled" XD
I like your content! When are you gonna upload some non-budget Mardu Vampires? :>
Shu Yunn? Manamorphose? Settle in the sideboard?
Never seen Jori En being played and neither today :(
I know I'm two weeks too late, but the description says "Mox Opal" and not "Mox Amber"
100% make KCI players play it out and timeout on Modo. It doesn't make for good videos though :D
That is straight-up unsportsmanlike. If they’re already combining off, and you know with 100% certainty that they will kill you, scoop it up. When you make someone time out, you are using rules outside the rules of MTG in order to win.
I feel like there was an emblem or enchantment that does what erayo does in standard not to long ago. What was it?
Jace, Unraveler of Secrets ultimate, I think.
don't understand why we didn't keep opt on top and try to flip erayo game 2 against Tron
Would you not want artifact removal against aether vial? when sideboarding?
Always kill crab if you can.
Generally I don't bring in artifact removal against Aether Vial unless they deck has more targets than just Aether Vial.
This is basically bridgevine except easier to interact with. I think you need to mulligan into a payoff.
Not sure if you know, but it truly is a lock if you cast curse of exhaustion with that erayo out. Lol
Hmm, that sweet.
Using Jace to flashback repeal on Thalia's liutenant was kind of a punt, as plussing Jace on the phantasmal militia bugler would have killed it; still, you didn't have many outs
Hmm, yeah, that's make sense.
I think that against humans, especially playing a deck that really doesn't wanna see an aether vial, bringing in wear tears could have done a lot.
Lots of main phase paths during storm giving them the extra mana, is this playing around counters?
Yeah, they tend to have main deck counters.
Bolt Thalias Liutenant in response to the Hierarch to avoid getting blown out by vial
Last game: Storm player could have cast Noxious Revival, then cast Past In Flames. He could then cast Grapeshot and Lightning Bolt.
Instead he screwed up his sequencing
Or he could have cast it the turn he gifted for it
I don't mind getting a punt-aided win against Strom :)
I mean there's a reason Erayo, Soratami Ascendant is banned in commander :joy:
I heard "Jayce and Snapcasters" as "Jason Snapcaster"
Wow this deck seems fucking lit! I think I want to try it out
Flipping Erayo on turn two is pretty sweet.
Did joran ever get casted
Not bolting crabs in mill is like not bolting goblin guides against burn. Just always bolt it or they'll mill for 6 at least (1/10 of your deck, a la 2 damage from guide a turn).
Hmm, when you put it that way, maybe we should have just bolted.
The deck needs an Anger of the Gods or 2 in the sideboard.
Supreme verdict in side?
Have we done Jace Erayo lock against the odds yet?
We haven't, but this seems like a pretty good way of doing it (if you want to maximize the flipping potential more Repeal seems good).
Someday, Itll happen. Great vid as always, Seth
Sick deck, love Seth, but the play was so sloppy.
Thanks and sorry.
It's very very minor, but at 10:25 wouldn't it have been correct to attack with Erayo before flipping her?
Since Eggs doesn't have a way to deal with Erayo at instant speed, yes.
"Doot doot MF!"
-Militia Bugler (2018)
How did you possibly bottom Mentor against humans how else did you expect to win
Your suffering will be legendary, even in Modern.
Mox Amber got so much hate during the Humans matchup... That was really unfair: it's the exact same scenario when you wipe out Affinity's board and they top deck a Mox Opal, but in that case no one would blame Opal for its "downside"...
That's a fair point.
That said, I understand your mindset during that match and why you commented that, especially after that super-smooth first game. It's just that I'm Amber's #1 fan and I must show some appreciation every now and then. XP
Thanks for the response, Seth, and for your content!
You missed a flip on erayo against torn game 2. You cast the first opt but bottomed the opt that was on top. If you kept it you would have gone second opt, bottom wear/tear, draw mox, cast mox and bauble and flip
That's true, although we didn't know Mox was the next card in our deck :(
MTGGoldfish True, thank you for replying btw! It's no biggie, we all do it! Super fun deck though!
That was my thinking anyway.
why is erayo green in the deck list?
If you have mox and repeal, cant you play and flip erayo on turn 2?
Yeah, Erayo + Mox + Repeal flips immediately.
You need to learn not to fetch when you scry 2 to the bottom unless you desperately need the mana. You effectively adding a card to the deck ( +2 from the shuffled scrys -1 for removing a land = 1 card added)
I love watching these on 1.25x speed.
I would like to point out that Alpine Moon doesn’t work the way you want it to against Tron. While you can turn off one of the Urza lands with it, the NAME of the card hasn’t changed, and that’s all the other two Urza lands care about in order to turn them on. It's actually not the name that the Urza lands look for, but the subtype. Alpine moon prevents any of the tron lands from seeing the named land as having that type, so all other than the named one will always tap for one colorless, while the named one will tap for one of any color.
So, if you are never gonna play the Jori En and you board it out pretty much every game, maybe you need a different face for the deck.
jeskai is my favourite combination of colours and i like the idea, tell me then why am i so bored watching this!?
the jori ens seemed quite bad, maybe its just the matchups tho
Awesome.
I think you forgot that they have cavern against humans
Lol pretty sure its closer to "eyegawnjoe" than it is "ajohno"
Why does this deck play 17 lands...
where's the link to vote on decks posted? (for next time)
For Much Abrew whichever Instant Deck Tech from the previous week is most popular wins. Against the Odds has a real poll though.
Yes, where can I find the against the odds poll
16:32 should have styled in them and played Erayo. Would have flipped it.
So I've been watching these for months and I still don't understand how KCI wins, it doesn't have any way of doing damage or any "you win the game" cards so how does it win? From what I can tell it only wins because people scoop because they don't want to see it.
zuzufan09 Pyrite Spellbomb looped infinitely.
They draw their deck until they find Pyrite Spellbomb, then cast-sac-recur it ten times.
Some older versions played Emrakul but now they mostly play Pyrite Spellbomb
Sometimes they also play Reservoir
Seems spicy
