I feel that evolving wilds is much better than cinder barrens for two major reasons 1. With a basic land from evolving wilds, it allows for dragonskull untapped next turn 2. It also thins out the deck, this deck hates drawing lands later in the game so taking them out of the deck is very good
Electrostatic Field is such an MVP. I play UR counter-burn and there's nothing I want more in my opening hand. Comes down before counters are online, blocks almost everything up to 4 drops in the meta (other than green stompy), has 4 toughness so will often eat 2 removal spells, basically turns everything you have into a burn spell. Especially once you get 2-4 of them out it's like "shock you for 6". *skeet skeet skeet*
Seth was just saying it’s an MVP when I read this haha. I built a deck back in closed beta with Guttersnipe and the card from Amonket I think it was that has the same ability as Electrostatic Field. Field is better though cause the toughness. But with those two Cards you can burn your opponent out without ever having to attack. And Firebrand Archer was what I was talking about that I was using before.
Seth, at 45:50 where you're like "oh we got punished by our sword point diplomacy" - The other way to look at it is that if you didn't have that card, you were drawing land for your next 3 turns, so technically it was a good card as it got you through the flood to your action.
@@MTGGoldfish Risk Factor is still not very good. It's legitimately good in one specific deck and okay in another deck. No one is looking at Curious Obsession and Tempest Djinn and calling them underrated. They're good in one deck and in that deck they're very good.
@@zylaji I'm not convinced Risk Factor is better than another threat in those hyper aggressive matches. Hyperaggresive decks lose an entire turn casting a 3 mana Risk Factor and then possibly spending another card and another turn to cast it again. We have Flame of Keld and Experimental Frenzy as solid aggressive red card advantage engines. It seems unlikely the winter set will come without a single playable red threat that won't be better in red decks than the 2 copies of Risk Factor they're running now.
Pablo Lins my thought exactly. That's three lands your not drawing. I know that there isn't any burn for three mana. But that seems better than three turns drawing lands in a burn deck. I want to make a modern version.
Have you considered doing a pole on Arena vs MtGO? I know the comments on Arena videos are a bunch of people complaining but people are more vocal when they don't like something.

I have 0 idea why people prefer MTGO for standard. I won't watch matches when he is playing on MTGO because for someone who is unfamiliar with the UI it is so hard to follow what is going on.
I like arena as well but I do agree budget doesn't make sense b/c budget is built around dollar cost which has no bearing on arena since you can't buy cards directly (individually)
Hey Seth, Ive been playing that standard dredge deck like non stop since you posted it and Ive been getting some GNARLY results. Do you think it could be a tiered deck?
There are so many scary Tier 2 decks, that I don't know you need to worry about a tier deck. If you know your deck and it's playing powerful cards, it's viable. You're going to do better with a deck you love and understand than someone that just picked up Boros midrange or Golgari midrange last week. If you're having fun, keep playing the deck!
I play the standard dredge a little different. But his dredge would probably be a bit more consistent. I run doom whisperers enhanced surveillance and stitchers supplier to turbo thru everything
Game 1: Spends two minutes in total shock that his mono red opponent top decked 2 damage for exactly lethal Game 2: Top decks 2 damage for exactly lethal, basically says "neat" ???
Seems a bit painful to sac multiple permas for a single card. 'pay X life to counter this card' would be sweet af for burn though - and will give us Grixis players a hefty stiffy ;)
I got crushed by this deck last night while playing grixis dragons. Was 4-0, saw punisher burn match 5, and was just thinking "Is this a real deck?" Proceeded to get destroyed 2-0. Seems legitimately really good. Would not be at all surprised if we see a lot of it in the coming pro tour.
I was wondering why you'd run cinder barrens instead of evolving wilds. Aside from scary one land hands they also synergize better with Dragonskull summit.
This deck is really awesome in best of one! It has taken me from Bronze T4 all the way up to Gold T3 in one evening. The only changes I made to it was I replaced the tap lands for shock lands and took out one of the sword-point diplomacy for a basic swamp.
I've been trying to think of the best way to do this too -- I knew 4x Sovereign's Bite and 4x Risk Factor were good, but there were a few card choices I didn't like. I'm gonna start playing Electrostatic Field over Runaway Steam-Kin tbh
He never played against what should be his weakest matchup: Green Stompy! What does this do about Nullhide Ferox or Ghalta? Should we get Cast Down or Vraska's Contempt?
You are 💯 correct. That match up is atrocious. I play with a similar 75 but have 3 contempts in my sb just for that matchup. It's still rough.. Without them I was 1/11 and with I'm 6/10 atm. Having said all that, I did not see a single stompy list in about 4 hours of play tdy so the meta may be shifting.
hey Seth (or anyone) i dont have a vault meter but i noticed on your last Arena you did, is there a vault meter? i have checked and i dont have that meter
The vault only shows up if it's over 100%. You can manually check the log file in the program folder or install mtgarena.pro (a neat companion app that is very lightweight and only reads and uploads info from the Arena log so that you can track it). Prior to the July update (and back in closed beta) we had the vault displayed at all times and people started complaining how slow the progress was, so they decided to hide it until they changed the progress rate (which hasn't been touched as of yet)
Yoooooo I was playing this deck in DOM standard with Guttersnipe! This version works better tho. Is 8 wizards enough tho? I had two copies of Dismissive Pyromancer as a way to draw and turn on bolt
I am taking it to FNM tonight ;)...I am wondering if I should just play this version or should I play my version with more hand disruption and Guttersnipes.
Would've swapped the cinder barrens for evolving wilds, if you're having to play a tapped land. then having evolving wilds means you have less chance of hitting lands with diplomacy or factor later in the game.
Too much downside and not enough upside. 2 toughness on a 3 drop is just weak. If it were a Goblin Wizard instead of a Goblin Shaman I could see it being more useful for immediate value. If it were a Wizard, you could turn 4 drop Guttersnipe + Wizard's Lightning for 5 damage, which wouldn't be bad. But, as of now, best you can do is turn 4 Guttersnipe + Shock, which is no better than just shocking twice for the same mana. I've tried Guttersnipe in a few decks and have honestly found its greatest weakness is that it isn't a Wizard and dies to anything. If either of those were changed, it would be a much better card.
45:45 I find it interesting that Seth blames the sword-point for the three lands, when if he hadn't cast that card, he would probably have lost anyway with 3 land draws in a row.
Hmm I like the idea, but Sword-Point Diplomacy has a math problem... Opponents should always give us most of the cards, burn spells do 2-3dmg, why should he take fixed 3 dmg by exile them when he can let us pay mana for them? (exception, create cards, risk factor and burn spells > 3 dmg).
At 24:35 you had lethal already. When he goes to cast teferi you attempt to burn with your spells, he counters one, takes the other, then doesn't have enough Mana for any other counters on your main when you sovereigns bite. (They don't play main deck negate)
Sword point getting 3 mana out of the way is super powerful. Most burn decks spend the next 3 turns with the opponent at 7 life just waiting. That keeps tempo. And its a fine discard for risk factor.
Duress isn't burn. Your deck is a very linear strategy. Every single card is damage. The plan is to overload the counterspells. This is why I think angrath is very loose. SOmething like inescapable blaze would be way better here.

But I was sitting here thinking what would you do with the same exact that but take it to Modern switch up some of the creatures and the instances in the deck what would that look like sorry I can't support you on Twitch but I do watch in I do like watching your videos on UA-cam
I did this with Jaya Ballard because I wanted to find a home for her, I named the deck Jayas Diplomacy. Only ran 6 creatures, 4 electrostatic, 2 guttersnipe. More burn spells. Especially Banefire. That can’t be countered deal especially when coming off Jayas three mana makes the opponent not commit to countering the first spell say a bite or lightning strike, trying to deal with the more deadly second they know is coming only to find out they can’t counter it. It’s delicious.
There's a small white line under Seth's username (probably another program that got caught in the screen capture) and it bothered me a bit too much hahaha :x. The deck seems.... fine? I think I've faced better Risk Factor decks than this, but I'm very curious to see where the standard metagame will end up since so many different builds seem viable(ish).

That second rounds first game took longer than it needed to he had sov's bite, shock, and lightning. Any two would be more than 4 and when tefari was resolving there was only 3 mana up, enough for 1 counter
Why not run evolving wilds over cinder Barren? The land is coming in tapped anyway so why not have a choice in what you get and include a little bit of deck thinning while you’re at it
If the land is going to come into play tapped anyway we might as well have access to both colors instead of just one (unless we're a three color deck, then Evolving Wilds becomes more appealing).
This seems like the deck where jaya Ballard might actually fit in the sideboard, possibly over angrath. She lets you replace any lands from sword point and risk factor, or just instantly cast a risk factor the same turn you play her. If she gets to ult you have all of your burn spells all over again, game over for any control deck.

You will have to against control be a bit more contrilie. Like he did with white blue. Opponent did not want to play anything for fear of not being able to counter. Allowing Seth to build up to work through counters.
"Just not having fun vs control." Standard in a nutshell IMO. Control right now is just super unfun to play against. It doesn't even feel like Magic. The non-control player basically gets to sit there and do nothing waiting for the control player to combo off or whatever their wincon happens to be.
I feel that evolving wilds is much better than cinder barrens for two major reasons

I've found that Guttersnipe just dies to easily to really be effective (especially for three mana).
Fair
Edge of the seat at the end there gd, good show super nice 5-0
Sword-point is so so so good in this deck
Now this is what Risk Factor is for!
How is 100 bucks budget
Dude I've been wanting to make this deck. I had the idea for it like a few days ago
Wow, this deck is bananas good!
I literally just made this deck on Arena, crazy stuff.
whee.. I am almost playing the exact same deck when watching
I've been playing this deck and have had issues vs control. Maybe I'm playing wrong but it's a sweeeet deck. Just not having fun vs control.
Esper won be over 2-1 and I beat jeskai 2-1 last saturday standard showdown at my LGS.
You will have to against control be a bit more contrilie. Like he did with white blue. Opponent did not want to play anything for fear of not being able to counter. Allowing Seth to build up to work through counters.
"Just not having fun vs control."
Standard in a nutshell IMO. Control right now is just super unfun to play against. It doesn't even feel like Magic. The non-control player basically gets to sit there and do nothing waiting for the control player to combo off or whatever their wincon happens to be.
@@ladycthuwu oh you are right control is a bitch. I play it. I know the other side of the table is frustrated.
99.8% of all enemies i hit are izzet or golgari i would like to know how good this deck is vs tier1 golgari midrange
I changed the sideboard in preparation for golgari and I put in two silent gravestone in there. Hopefully its good.
