This is the only non US made knife ive been contemplating. Cardboard may be soft but it does a number on knife edges

I think I’m going to sharpen it back up & give it another try. I think it can do better than it did here on this test. But still a really great knife. Strops back to sharp very easily.

I'm looking forward to more cut testing. I find that being able to stropping a knife back to a usable working edge is very important to me. I made a 4 sided oak strop that is 5/8" wide by 12" long. I glued a piece of leather 7" long on all 4 sides and applied CBN abrasive in, 1,4,8 and 16 micron marking each side accordingly. I find this narrow strop is easier to use than some of the wider strops available in the market place. This strop is very handy and works on all steels because of the CBN solutions used.

Hey man. That’s a great idea! I was thinking that 5/8” sounds pretty thin, but I guess that’s like a 4 sided Worksharp Field sharpener strop. Those work pretty well for me. You should think about doing some videos man. You always have good ideas. Seriously. 👍

@@BladesOnABudget No, I'm not into that, but I do enjoy watching video's. I am more than happy to share information when I find something that is simple and beneficial to anyone that is interested.

I just bought a vision fg after black Friday. The white Damascus version and got it for $70! I haven't put it down since lol. I got a kizer amicus with nitro v and its a pretty great steel tho! Sharpens up really really nicely!

That’s a great deal on that Vision! Good find. And yes, the Nitro-V is definitely one of the better steels to sharpen back pretty quickly. You can basically strop it back pretty fast. 👍

Hiya Fred, thanks for another one! Would it be possible to do a cut comparison video of a knock off vs the real deal? I'd be quite interested in seeing how a s30v/s45vn/m390 or whatever steel the clone claims vs a verified steel turns out..

I’m not aware of any replicas of the Vision. But the whole reason I’m starting with these real knives is to give us a baseline of how well they do so I can then start testing all of the Temu & OKK knives to see how those compare against these real versions where we know the steel is “good”. I’m betting that some of the replicas are going to compete really well! 👍

As I’m sure a lot of people will comment, it’s Nitro-V not VG10. Both respectable knife steels!
Also I never expect a factory edge to last long or really perform that well. I’d definitely recommend sharpening it yourself when comparing steels.

😂 Just a bunch of rookies over here! I always get those 2 confused in my brain. Nitro-V is a good budget steel. Strops back very easily. But yeah, I was a little disappointed this one didn’t do better. I’m going to sharpen it up & give it another shot. I think with a good edge it should do better. 👍

I always enjoyed your tutorials and look forward to the always on a different subject I've always learned to improvise adapt as we say in the real roll with it , the tiny leverage I need to put on my wish list. I immediately took it ?? I remember we all have something similar to that nail clippers some have small files and some leverage for cutting with no sharp edges. Perfect for prying gently without scratching surfaces.😊 Anyway I just thought I'd share that.

    So... VG 10... 😅
    It's ok, Fred!
I accidentally say F sharp instead of F major sometimes😅

I discovered that Windex works just as well to get that tape residue 😊 I already have a designated Amazon knife. Vision a knife that has gone under radar. It has a great belly so you can use the whole edge.I you it for small food tasks in a restaurant when she want share something 😊.

Yeah, this is a good one for food prep. Maybe a good camping knife that can do most anything, including food prep. Kind of like the Spyderco Spydiechef with the handle & blade design. 👍

If you want to operate with numbers not just feelings in your steels comparison you should measure total length of cuts on cardboard.

Not sure I’m ready to elevate the channel to that level of professionalism yet. 😂 But yeah, I need to work on a little better way of at least measuring something in order to make these comparisons meaningful. I am at least keeping track of the total square inches of the cardboard pieces that I start with. I’ll work on some charts that we can look at once I get a couple of knives going & then just keep updating that so everyone can see all of the knives tested as we do each new one. 👍

Just FYI, I really like your channel, so I plugged it in my latest video on my favorite knives of 2024. It's a crappy video, but hopefully it will send some folks to your channel.
