Blue hydraulics on wide open Gretsch Jasper shells late 70s and 80s . Pure magic.
I felt that the red and black heads sounded the best in my opinion. I love the Hydraulic heads and have enjoyed the Hydraulic Red heads on my toms on both batter and reso heads.
Now I really like this comparison! True! This is a difference between of the red and blue. Steve Gadd used hydraulics on his Pearl Tom’s in the 70s when he had the Frankenstein set.
Thank you for demoing all of the heads! The full drum playthrough at the end was great too!
I still can't believe how GOOD this sound, so...deep it's amazing. Just ordered mine yesterday! (i wanted all in black, but it seemed only the snare was available in that color for the time being in amazon Mexico :,c). Also, great great drumming!
Great video man! I just ordered a set of the Hydraulic Blues.
Wow!! Love the sound of these. I still use the ones I won from you a couple years ago 🔥🔥
Love it man! Going to try those heads. Already ordered them...
Great video and great presentation. Love these heads
great review
Nice video! Thanks a lot!
Blue sounds so sick.
Great video and awesome playing! Would you happen to remember the tuning? Any pitch reference notes? The toms, along with everything, sound amazing!
These are awesome, and great review! What are you using for resonant heads?
When started playing… I could honestly see Jafar coming to get me
Great video! I like the black heads the best. What were you using for reso heads?
Good!!!👍
Question: What do you have resting on the hats over the floor toms? Is there a splash underneath a tambo? I love the way that sounds and would love to emulate for a recording project.
Thank you so much!!
TJ, thanks for the great video! Nice to see the comparison and someone actually playing the heads at a normal type volume. The sound is incredible and exactly what I'm looking for; probably a combination of heads, drums, mics, mixing - eh? I couldn't really discern a difference between them (listened with my eyes closed too). I just picked up a used Gretsch Renown kit (5 lug 10" and 12" toms); great sustain, but almost too much. I'm currently using Evans G2 on the batter, and Reso7s below deck (with moongel for dampening on the batter). The whole kit is 10, 12, 14, 20 kick. I thought if I tried the hydraulics I might get enough of a sustain cut, without sacrificing the tone/resonance of the shell. Thoughts? Thanks! I sub'd...... you got great chops, BTW (look forward to watching more content). Cheers -
Thanks so much! That is precisely what these heads are designed for. Tone focused with controlled sustain. Glad you found something useful here!
What snare reso head are you using on the 6.5”?
Elaborate on tuning? Notes?
I wish they made a coated head !
They do for the snare.. I use 14 Red coated hydraulic.
I know it's been a while since you posted this video, but what do you normally use for reso heads?
Yes it has been! I still prefer the Evans genera resonants for most applications - sometimes I"ll go a G1 coated on the reso side for a drier tone.
Maybe I missed it when he was giving the gear breakdown, but what model of Pearl Toms?
Pearl Reference Series - 10, 12, 14, 16
@@TJHartmanndrums Awesome! Thank you. I'm currently researching for a new kit and was debating Pearl. But I'm in Alaska, so very hard to demo anything
Also, do you know if the do the coated in 13 inch?? I can’t find one
I don't think so - just 14"
They do now!
I accidentally bought the 14” tom hydraulic red for my snare. Will it split or sound horrible? It’s for rock gigs …
I think you should be good, there isn't much difference really, if at all. Hope that helps!
@@TJHartmanndrums Thanks so much for your reply! I watched every head review video praying someone would say that! I can relax now…
@@JoeIzzo I use the clear tom Hydraulic head on my snare. The only difference with the tom head is that there's no coating; BUT that may actually help your snare to cut through the mix better, and the oil helps to dampen the overtones that coating normally would.
Got another ?. What ride is that ?
Meinl Cymbals 20" Vintage Sand Ride
Are you related to sawyer Hartmann ?? You sound similar and you have the same surname
As far as I know, we aren't related.
Just get to the point. !!!
I had blue Evans hydrologic heads on my Pearl drumkit
