    Brother you can do it. I am 61 and recently retired from selling our business. At 180 I said no more ! Stopped the snacking and did a ton of outdoor work around the house. One year later happy to see 155 on the scale. Have a protein drink for breakfast/lunch and my dinner. I cheat sometimes,once in a while, but it was the moving that helped. Digging, raking, trimming, ladders etc. winter will be harder because I hate to work out, but will. Good luck.

    I am with you...I packed on the pounds as I was losing my wife. I got up to 380 and realized it would kill me. I don't want to be on meds, like you, and at 260 my A1c is at 4.2. I need to lose another 40 or 50 pounds. You can do this, we need your videos of a normal golfer like us mere mortals.

    I tend to do my exercising religiously in the off season, and figure I get more than enough during our golf season. I'm from the midwest like you, but about 20 years older. My weight isn't a problem normally , but I can put on a quick 10 if I forget to watch my diet. It takes discipline to exercise and eat the way we should. I'm looking forward to your 3 month results. And a pound a week is a great way to go! Good luck MSH!

    I hope you get your fitness goals. I’m sure all the extra walking on the course will help :) my fitness goal is to recover from ME/CFS and long COVID so I can get out of the apartment and back on the course. (I haven’t been able to play for a year) It’ll take months and maybe years, but Once I get back, my goal is to play low stress golf: accept the results good or bad, enjoy being outside, only play clubs that I’m confident with (sorry, driver) , and always lay up to stay away from trouble.

      My way to being healthier and keeping fit is: Cutting down sugar to a minimum and being disciplined on eating 2 meals a day was one pile for me, the other was doing cardio for 30 min 2 to 3 times a week.

    You'll be fine. My wife had the same diagnosis 5 months ago. They also gave her 3 months to make a change, if her cholesterol was still high they were going to have to put her on statin drugs. She didn't exercise any more than normal, she just changed her diet. In those 3 months she lost 35 lbs, her cholesterol became normal, and she's not as bitchy. #3 was my favorite side effect!!!
    You won't even miss any of the unhealthy foods.
    The funny thing about a guy like you that makes videos is that you seem like a friend that I'd like to play golf with, yet you have never met me and I feel like I know you. Good luck, glad you found out early while you can still do something about it.

    Im in the same boat, too heavy. But I've managed to loose 27 pounds since April by golfing twice a week and practicing on 2 more days. My goal is to get to 250. Which wont be bad for me Im 6' 2". I was 303 at the beginning of April. Less food, Less alcohol and more activity. I met one of my golf goals and broke 80 for the first time ever this year. Ive gotten my playing handicap down to 11.3. My next goal is to eliminate double bogey from the scorecard. Im sure you will meet your goals. Its hard when you are older. Im also 64. Anyway love your content will look forward to more.

    I had planned on walking more this year for those rounds I play after work. 6'3 and 290, I could stand to lose some weight lol but walking didn't happen. I just don't like pushing the cart because I normally trip over the wheel while pushing it. I would rather spend the money on a powered one with remote but I still have yet to gather the funds together do to that.

    Ahh, I can remember when I did the 3 months of exercise and diet to reduce my cholesterol. I lowered it by 20 or so points in those 3 months. Doc put me on a statin and it dropped 100 points. LOL I've been on it for 20 years. At 57, I try to walk an extra 3-5 miles every day. Living on a golf course helps. The cart path is 4.5 miles so I get out early in the morning before it gets light out. I stretch 3-4 days a week. But I should really work on strength in the off season. I really have noticed a loss of distance this season. Ugh!

  • @bradleyrounds9148
    @bradleyrounds9148 11 місяців тому

    Swinging well today. Bummer on the diagnosis, but I'm afraid its pretty common. Genetics plays a large part. The walking is a good start. Lots of water. Get a 32 ounce jug and monitor how many fills a day, try for 2x at least. Sometimes you have to just chug. Yep, take a hard look at your diet. Im on a low dose statin with no issues. There are a couple different types so if ya have problems with one try the other. Good luck.
    Ya was wondering if you noticed any on course distance increase.

    @mistahshorthitter Thanks so much for letting us know how you're doing. I've always struggled with my weight despite being fairly active and a week short of my 55th birthday, I don't feel as good as I know I can. My recent labwork wasn't great, either, so I have to get it in gear. Like you, I feel like watching my diet and moving more will equate to dropping a pound per week, feeling better and having better numbers in a few months. ... The good news is your goals are very attainable and based on the focus and work ethic you put into everything else, I have no doubt you can do whatever you set out to do. You're a treasure, and we want you happy and healthy for as long as possible. 🙂👊👊👊

    Something that changed my life was a book by Dr. Greger called How not to diet. It's a play on words but has a lot of useful information backed up with studies if you want to look them up. But I'm from a family of diabetes BAD and hypertension. 90 days and I went from 3 BP meds at full doses to just a half of 1. It works if you why is big enough! God bless and I know you can do it 🙏🏿

    Total Cholesterol elevation is only part of the picture. Your approach may differ depending on the LDL (lethal cholesterol) and your HDL (happy cholesterol) numbers. If you have no other risk factors the LDL should be below 130 (ideally below 100) and your HDL above 40. Good luck but don't be too afraid of the meds, they work amazingly well for lowering LDL cholesterol.

    • @thekid2003
      @thekid2003 11 місяців тому

      The "lethal" name is just to help remember the good Cholesterol (HDL) from the bad (LDL). It is the LDL we target to lower and the HDL we target to raise.

    I had high cholesterol for years . Gained weight as I aged , eat drink everything in sight that’s bad for you . Resisted doctor for over 5 years trying to get me on statin. Got new doctor and FIRST sentence was “ you should consider a statin “. Took it and with NO exercise or change in diet I went from ten years at 265 and higher cholesterol level to 181. In 3 months . It’s something to seriously consider if diet doesn’t help.
    On side note , new insurance new doctor and my A1C is higher than ever but insurance requires 2 tests to qualify for meds so I’m in same boat . I’ve got 3 months to lose weight and cut back soda to see if my A1C drops to ‘ non diabetic’
